"If I could give zero stars, I would do that. Upon entering the facility, I noticed an unmasked employee up front at the desk. Letting that slide (against my better judgement). This is a pandemic. Wear your mask indoors or you are breaking the law. I was then called back to my room at the same time as 2 other patients, which lacks the proper social distancing. When I was placed in my room, the assistant started going through my chart- which already had all the information needed. When I lifted my shirt, the assistant said "omg you're pregnant??" So obviously I became instantly enraged, as I am SIX MONTHS POSTPARTUM. I said "NO- are you the doctor??" And when she said she was not, I asked her to immediately leave the room, to which her persistent response was: "but it is so cute you just had a baby!" Which YES that part is valid but NO!!! Don't discuss pregnancy with anyone who hasn't invited it. Especially asking if someone is pregnant when they are not. So after telling "Lizette" (maybe "Lizethe") to leave room about 10x with her NOT LISTENING TO ME- I realized I am far to uncomfortable to speak to this dermatologist regarding stretch marks or ANY other issue, as I am extremely embarrassed and pissed off now. I went up front to discuss the matter, admittedly FUMING, and I could hear the staff speaking Greek to each other and then the manager making me wait far too long for a simple APOLOGY. After storming out due to complete lack of attention to my huge problem, I went back in to catch the names of the offenders. This is when I could hear the manager talking A LOT of trash about the situation in English "oh i'm a hard working mother also if you don't wanna be polite how am i supposed to talk about it" and so forth. "Faye" or "Faith" was the manager's name and frankly, she is doing a terrible job managing her staff if I could (and therefore the entire waiting room) hear her complaints about me- an extremely offended PATIENT OF THE DOCTOR's (who I have yet to even meet!). Her staff is asking people if they are pregnant when they are not. Her staff is not wearing a mask indoors. In addition to what happened today (the manager just escalated my anger rather than diffuse it with an apology), when my fiancé went to this dermatologist (he recommended this office bc "clean")... the manager said that he had to leave a credit card on file "because people with your insurance usually don't pay." It is illegal to say that. It is illegal to practice this. I work in a dental office so am also well versed in insurance- THIS WOMAN IS AN IDIOT. This place is a SCAM. Only accept cash with no receipts. No social distancing. Doctor Alexander is in a rush to finish with you so that he can move to the next person asap without given no time to explain your skin issues. His medicines given did nothing and for that i ended-up paying hundreds of dollars. All for just 5 minutes of time with him. Been sent a collections bill that was paid months ago, bill was sent to collections with no indication to me and no communication from Astoria Derm that I owed any amount. I saw one PA here thats was great and the others were eh. The doctor did not help my situation either. But the one star is actually for the billers and whoever else is in charge. Apparently I owed money which they had apparently mailed a letter stating that a few times (I never got anything. But they did call about 3 times verifying my address.... They could have told me that they were trying to mail me something and asked if i received it?... I was totally in the dark) Anyways I received a collections letter saying that I owed advanced dermatology. Since they were my only dermatologist, I called and asked if I owed money to which they said no. I then called the number on the collections letter and confirmed that it was the dermatologist in astoria. So I called again, and they transferred me to billers to which the biller explained that she had apparently mailed me letters a few times. I personally think its a crock of bull bc I check the mail all the time. How come I received the collections letter and not theirs? They could have called as well! AND they had my card on file.... His staff is great treats you like family with physicians assistants who are very knowledgeable always answering all my questions even tho i can't be a pain. I love that they take same day appointments even for my cosmetics! Be careful when signing paperwork. They ask for a credit card to keep on file so they can charge it when insurance doesn't cover all costs. I think that is a poor customer experience. When they are ready to bill you your out of pocket costs, they charge the card automatically without ever telling you how much money you first and/or if you can make monthly payments. Since your card is on file from your first visit, they don't invoice you first. They should at least tell you what you owe first before charging your card. Very poor patient experience. read more

Avoid at all costs! I've been living in NYC for 11 years and this has been the worst experience at a doctor that I've ever had. My appointment was scheduled for 6:15 pm, and I had gotten the Zoc Doc reminders. I even got one at 4:45 via text. When I arrived at 6 pm the lady at the front desk told me I did not have an appointment. After a long back and forth I had to show her the zocdoc reminder on my phone, which she didn't believe and examined closely until she realized I had scheduled. She then said: "Oh, Zocdoc, yeah... you should not schedule with them". This leads me to believe Zocdoc is no longer a reliable platform (after using it for many years). So, she tells me the doctor will "fit me in" and I should fill the paperwork. Ok, so I do that and then she tells me there's a $5 copay. However, she told me they don't take credit cards for an amount so small and had me go to a nearby ATM to get her that money in cash. 10 mins later I get back, and she tells me the Dr is still with a patient and it "won't be too long". So there's a waiting room with ~15 chairs, out of which 13 are full. Apparently social distancing doesn't matter in this office because when I decided to stand up somewhere less crowded another lady told me I couldn't stand up, and that I either sat down or reschedule my appointment. So... I sit down, and wait... and wait... and wait some more. At 7 pm I ask them how much longer I have to wait for my 6:15 appointment. They say "the doctor is finishing up with one patient and then there's another one before you". I stood up and left, not without being vocal about my frustration with this whole process and customer service. Didn't see the Dr, but based on all the issues above, I suggest: avoid at all costs! read more

Very unhappy. I came because I have all the sudden been getting bad acne breakouts, unlike ever before. I waited for so long and then the doctor who saw me barely let me have time to ask him questions; barely answered any of my questions, gave me prescription for a pill and a gel and then hurried out the door. Like I was taking up HIS time. Luckily the nice physicians assistant answered my questions and made me feel like I was actually at my own appointment that I had made. Second time I came there, just the PA saw me. And forgot that we had not done a chemical peel the first time I visited. The third time I went, a different PA saw me, told me conflicting answers to my questions that the others told me. And seemed to only have answers in the form of "let's just keep trying this and come back in 2 weeks" Nothing has gotten better. I am out of time and patience. I have since seen a different dermatologist and have received the care and results I have been wanting. Sadly i wasted 6 weeks at this place first. read more

They don't know what they are doing and there is a blonde woman with highlights there who is very rude... she doesn't regard you unless you demand to be checked in. They all ignore you. Also so unprofessionally they were yelling and bickering out loud infront out us patients and having very repulsing conversations with each other. This isn't a review about the doctor's performance but on his staff. I had an appointment schedule for a wednesday afternoon. That same wednesday it was heavily raining and the receptionist called me to re-schedule the appointment due to a flood in their office. I called the following afternoon to reconfirm the appointment. The receptionist couldn't find my rescheduled appointment date, and also claimed that no one from their office called to cancel my appointment that day. She said that all their patients showed up and I was a no-show. Not only was the receptionist very rude, but insisted that no one called from their office. When I questioned how can something like this happen, she was very rude and gave me a huge attitude. I dont want to go to a doctor whose staff/office is very rude and disorganized. If they can mix up appointments and doesnt remember that they cancelled my appointment, who knows what else they can screw up...blood tests? prescriptions? The office should represent the doctor, and I believe his receptionists are very poorly trained in customer service and has no clue. After speaking with a few people who are clients of his, they do have the same complaints. The staff are rude and lacks customer service skills. I have your run of the mill mild acne, and it's gone uncured. They wrote me off as just another young acne case, and did a sub-par job of treating me. The lady I had was abrupt, a few notches away from rude, and unresponsive. I think Dr. Nicolaides thinks if he stacks his office with attractive women, I won't notice that I didn't actually ever see Dr. Nicolaides. I've seen pieces of Dr. Nicolaides, but never the man himself. The front office is abysmal. Rude as can be -- unimaginable, really, how people can get away with such attitude. I called in for a refill for a prescription and they didn't give it to me because they have a self-beneficial policy which states you have to go back when a few months elapses. I have a few spots of acne for goodness sake; give me the prescri------oh, that's right, I'm not going back to you anyway. No credit cards for copays, which is a pain. While you are sitting in the waiting room, you can cleary hear all the "bad talk" about the patients that call and how stupid they think we all are. After a lengthy wait in the waiting room, once in the room, the Physician's Assistant comes in to ask the preinterview questions and get a history and a reason for your visit. She was very nice and the one star on this review is for her. When the Dr. comes in, there is no greeting.."Hello, I"m Dr. so and so" Nothing! Absolutely no manners and spends 5 minutes and answers all questions with general answers non -specific to any particular issue. This is now my former dermatologist. I went here for a while because my doctor recommended him (mostly because of location). I went a few times for skin checks and always had to wait at least an hour after my appointment time to finally see him. My appointments usually lasted about 10 minutes, at the very most, so having to wait that long is a little infuriating. His assistants are all very nice, but his attitude is less then appealing. During an annual skin check I had my foot wrapped because of an injury and he gave me such a hard time about it, for really no reason at all. I've since found an amazing dermatologist in the city who treats me like a patient and not #245 on their daily roster. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Nicolaides for over 10 years and counting. As a dermatologist I highly recommend him. He is the kindest doctor who treats his patients with the highest level of care. I can not praise him enough. I had developed adult acne which was not only painful physically, but also a huge hit to my self esteem. He was able to get it under control and it is completely gone! Once he tackled that, I decided to put my trust in him to tweak me up, so to speak! So yes, he's done my Botox and fillers and I've never been happier! I'm sure this might seem shallow to the judgmental but let's face it "the most beautiful thing a woman can wear is confidence". The staff, from front desk to PAs, is extremely welcoming, competent and efficient. They make you feel comfortable and address all your concerns from appointments to billing etc. I always look forward to going on appointment days because they are a trip! And sure do brighten up my days! To be fair, a minor downside, the wait. I needed a skin biopsy so after a lot of research on the internet and word of mouth I was convinced he was a good Doctor. So I made an appointment with Dr. A. Nikolaides. The girls at the front desk were busy, but they were helpful and courteous. I was able to see the Dr. After 15 minutes of wait. The Dr's bedside manner was amazing! He explained everything to me. He has a light hand, I didn't feel the topical anesthesia shot, the punch cut on my skin, or the stitches. They gave me directions for the after care of my wound. My overall experience was excellent! He was the third dermatologist I have seen for this biopsy, I saw one in Los Angeles an other in Las Vegas, but Dr. Nikolides made me feel at ease and I knew I was in good hands. He has the lowest price of per visit. His office visit charge was the lowest Now I have a dermatologist I can trust. I like to add that the location on my skin he took the biopsy from looks better then before, you know I am really happy about that. read more

Great. I'm the Duchess of a dermatologist's office. But seriously- these folks are really nice (and really busy, as others have noted). Still, I called at 3am on a Monday trying to get an emergency visit, and they told me come down, they'd fit me in even though they were booked solid. I expected to wait forever, but it was 10 minutes tops. And then Dr. Nicolaides saved my life. It sounds hyperbolic, but apparently it was a bad infection and I was heading for hospital time. He was kind, thorough, helpful, and warned me about realistic expectations. Had me come back in several times to check progress and retreat. After a particularly painful treatment, they insisted I take a car service home, and called one for me. Then waited with me downstairs until it came. I'm an out of pocket patient too, so no extras to bill to the insurance company as an incentive. Just good treatment and diligent practices. Couldn't ask for any more professionalism or human kindness from the doctor or his staff. For those who complain that you're not seen NOW, get out your pacifier and wait. On May 1st 2018, I had an appointment with Dr. Nicolaides. He took some samples and mailed it to the wrong laboratory(despite me telling him what laboratory was covered under my insurance). When the bill came in, I called the office multiple times and they promised to fix it. however, the staff is HORRENDOUS and lied to me and to the insurance agency. The doctor is also absolutely horrible and refused to speak to me or my insurance. The entire office, especially the doctor, is incompetent and unwilling to fix their mistakes. It is now September 25th and I have to pay hundreds of dollars for some ridiculous doctor's mistake. NEVER go to this doctor, it is not worth the wasted time or aggravation. The waiting time is extremely long, and the doctor offers a very cursory examination. He is a terrible doctor and often relies on his nurses' for information. DO NOT USE THIS OFFICE. read more

I am a big fan of this office and so grateful I found it. I've had nothing but positive experiences with the doctor, all the PAs, and the front desk staff. It's a legitimate office, organized with administration / follow up, and I feel as though I'm getting excellent care. They've gone above and beyond for me. The only reason it's 4 stars instead of 5 is the wait times. I deal with the wait since everything else is so great. I plan to be there for at least 90 minutes every time I go. read more

This dermatologist is very close to my home, so it's pretty convenient for me. I have been twice now and have waited for at least 30-45 minutes prior to my appointment. I have waited anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes once I get in the exam room. The front desk staff is not warm or friendly and the nurses are even worse. It seems like you only get treated decently if you speak Greek in this office. They are especially unhelpful when trying to get information such as alternative medicines, coupons or further assistance from the dermatologist. read more

Have visited Dr Nicholaides' office a month ago with concers about my birth marks. He appeared quite knowledgeable and proffesional... However, they did not bother to send the skin specimen for analysis to my in network lab...and I have gotten this huge bill for lab services. When I called to ask why did this happen, receptionist told me that it is not their business to check what is my in netwrok lab ( they did have my insurance information ). Receptionist just did not care and gave me the attitude like there is a bill for your skin analysis and you have to pay it. The doctor himself is great, the office is clean, the wait is usually not too long, but don't ever let his PA perform any involved procedures on you. I think her name was Estrafa.. I had a small leision which she attempted to get rid of, and applied an acid peel to the area making it twice as large. I was left with a bad scar, and would have been better if she never treated it in the first place. She obviously didn't know what she was doing. I reccomend asking specifically for him for if you are going to have any procedures done in the office. As far as I am concerned he gets 5 stars. His PA (at the time) gets none ! read more
