Dr Elena is super professional and kind. She's very organized in delivering her treatment. She is very generous in giving samples and advising one on the best pharmacy to received best rates. But similar to the lackluster reviews, this place is very shall I say, run of the mill. The place is packed like a meat farm. I arrived before my 2 pm appointment and five ppl were waiting on Dr Elena and that doesn't include those in the patient rooms. My appt was for 2 only to be serviced well after 3:30. We don't like this at the hair salon so why would this fly at a dermatologist where I must pay a copay? The offices are a bit sterile for my taste. Wonderful location in east side but the office could be updated... modernized I also was given a outdated new patient form to complete. The form looked like it was made in the 1980s. I didn't complete it because I could not read it. And I would advise that ppl stop straining your eyes to complete this intake form until it's updated. Overall I received very basic treatment for my condition which was to remove my blemishes using retina. I don't know a lot about retina but I was hoping for something a little more aggressive and might not require 6 mths to see results. when she prescribed you a solution it come with a full Treatment of product and suggestions to get the most out of prescribed medication. Dr. Jones unflappably navigated between numerous patients with ease. My time with her was brief, but helpful. She addressed all of my concerns with attentiveness and care. In just a short time before arriving to her office, I learned she is a celebrity dermatologist and wondered if I would be short - changed since I am not a celebrity. ... not at all. When I initially called I was told there was a consultation fee I asked if that fee would be deducted from the procedure. Answer was " Yes". When I got there I paid out of pocket a consultation fee of $300 and was told it would not go towards the procedure. They said if I had insurance the insurance would pay for the consultation fee. Whether I had insurance or not any consultation fee always gets deducted from a procedure. I didn't need to pay $300 for them to agree with me that I have acne scars, this should of been deducted from any procedure I end up getting. If you plan on going there make sure they email you what they tell you over the phone so you have proof. This left a bad taste so I'm going elsewhere. read more

African American dermatologist FTW! It really does make a huge difference. I happen to have hidradenitis, random I know. Basically one of the symptoms is that hair grows under the skin and my glands are prone to infection. Fortunately I'm not that severe. However I did go to a Caucasian derm who told me that I was overweight and should work to lose weight so I can have a gap between my thighs (the gap that only anorexics and models have) to cut back on possible infections, because my hidradentis was inflated from the friction of my skin rubbing together :( For real dude?? I'm like a size 10 after the chinatown buffet. Now while my diet does impact a potential infection, it's internal (like eating greasy foods) not external. And I learned this after finding Dr. Jones office and having an appointment with her rather, I'm trying to find the right word...hmm....smooth (even though I don't do lightskin :/) colleague, Dr. Charles. Very informative and worth the wait that it took to get an appointment there. I recommend them to all my friends. read more

Basic service, administrative pain in the ass, I was a patient for almost two years. BE PREPARED TO WAIT. Bring a thick book or a knitting project because there's always a 45 minute to an hour wait until the doctor(s) can see you. Clearly there's a double-book-patients policy in place. The waiting room's always packed; once I arrived to standing room only. APPOINTMENTS: If you call to cancel, be sure to make a note of who you spoke with. When I've had to reschedule in the past (well within the required time), I've always been hit with a no-show fee. Having a name cleared up everything. BILLING: Check your billing statement, keep your receipts, y'all. I had a break out, the Dr. looked but didn't touch then prescribed some ointment and I was on my way. 30 days later I received a bill from Quest Diagnostic talking about lab from this visit. SERVICE: Dr. Jones and Dr. Carlos spend about 4-5 minutes with you tops. But to be fair, my condition doesn't need a lot of analysis/discussion, so maybe that explains the pop in/out. But something about a jammed up waiting room makes me think otherwise. STAFF: Simply wonderful. Always kind, always courteous. I've moved on from Dr. Jones. I was referred to Dr. Jones by a physician that I work with. For several years prior I went to a white male dermatologist that didn't understand black women's especially when it came to matter of the hair. Every appointment I had with Dr. Jones I was seen within 5minutes of getting to my scheduled appointment, The front desk staff are very friendly and personable but also professional. I love that with each medical treatment she gives a daily regimen of what you should do. I really appreciate that samples and coupons are given because times are hard :) . The best part is that Dr. Jones is relatable, she was able to talk about similar issue that I was having and was able to recommend tips and tricks that I should try. I feel comfortable talking to her about my concerns and I never feel rushed. I have since stopped going to my old dermatologist and will forever go see Dr. Jones. Dr. Jones was courteous, punctual and professional! The office was clean, the staff was warm and welcoming. I'm in my 30's and I had my first acne break out EVER! So, it turns out my daughter DID NOT have Seborrhea. She had a fungal infection and was misdiagnosed, and therefore, given the wrong medication. Also, the doctor's office started having challenges getting their billing together. Disaster. I switched dermatologists. I was quite disheartened as I knew Dr. Jones through a mutual contact. As a new patient, I had to undergo a 3 month wait to finally see Dr. Jones. She is fully booked around the clock. My appointment was at 10:45 am and I was seen at 10:45 am. The front desk receptionist was very polite and friendly. The PA, I believe her name was Linda, is BAAAAD as hell. Damn. 5 stars alone for her. I gave them an authorization number after about an hour wait was told that the authorization number was for the Bronx location. Quick BackStory: 27 never had acne until 23 when I got Nexplanon (birth control goes in your arm & stays for 3 years). My face exploded, primary care doc. said wait for my body to regulate, never happened. Took it out 9 months later face has never been the same. Elena Jones Review: Since then I've seen 2 dermatologists and 3 physicians. I've been given everything topical, a couple of antibiotics, and even changed my diet (I am now a Vegan) but nothing worked. Today is 4/13/14 my appointment with Dr. Jones was 4/11/14 and my face is already clearing up! She was patient wanted to know the history of my skin. I brought her the products I was using and she intently read the ingredients, took notes, and pointed out exactly what I need to stay away from. She was clear when explaining what was causing my problem and the step-by-step solution to correcting it. My insurance wouldn't cover the visit but she is definitely worth the personal expense. I've spent far more wasting money on every over the counter product possible. There is nothing like looking in the mirror and recognizing your face again after so long. Love Dr. Jones! I've been a patient for well over 15 years. Besides being an awesome person and having the most beautiful skin ever, she's great at what she does. She listens to what you have to say, then advises on the best course of action. She doesn't sell you on things you want or think you need just to bill your insurance or charge you for it. If she's recommending a treatment, trust you'll benefit from it. Sure getting an appointment is not the easiest, and you may have to wait a bit when you arrive, BUT it's well worth it. I don't know if it really makes a difference whether you're white or black coming to Elena Jones. All I know is that you ALWAYS have to wait. Even if you show up on time for your appt time, you have to wait on those nasty couches (nasty because they are squishy and covered in plastic and that creeps me out) and once you DO get into a room, you end up waiting some more. I think I waited 15 minutes in the room for her to show up. Good thing I had an iphone and could facebook. Once she gets in there, it's fine. I wanted to give this office a better rating; I was referred here by by coworker, who highly recommended Dr. Jones. The doctor herself is sweet and understanding, however, the office definitely overbooks. Every time that I've visited, I've spent over 20-30 minutes waiting to be seen. It gets very crowded and sometimes you have to stand up while you wait. Another reason why I took off a star is because I had a biopsy done on the 4th of November, went to have my stitches removed the following week (on a Monday), and when I asked for my results, I had to wait for another 10 minutes and they came back to inform me that my biopsy was never sent in to the lab?...What? It didn't make sense to me, but anyway, they said they would call by that Wednesday with the results. I never got a phone call...I've called multiple times without any luck (it doesn't help that they're closed like almost every other day of the week). Today is the 26th of November. There is no reason why my results shouldn't have been in by now. I've shared my experience with my coworker and he's very surprised. It's a shame because the doctor and staff seem friendly, but friendliness only goes so far when my well-being is concerned. After I get my results (if I ever do), I will search for a different doctor. read more

I called to make an appointment and gave the receptionist my info about 2 weeks ago. I called back today and spoke with Julia (who was extremely rude and unknowledgeable) who said that I was never in their system at all. When I asked to speak to someone who could provide further insight to a different question, she said she'll go ask someone, and then she came back to the phone and told on herself after telling me a lie of an answer. She eventually said that there was no one else there besides her. The staff of a business are a huge reflection, I will not be coming here. I've been going to Dr. Jones for about 6 or 7 years now. I was recommended to see her by a friend of mine. She's a great doctor. Yes, you have to wait in her office sometimes but I think it really depends on the day or time of year. Sometimes I've had to wait over 30 minutes to see her but other times, I'm able to be ushered into a room within 10 minutes. Her staff is very nice, and they make sure to ask about why I'm coming in and if I need any refills of prescriptions, which is good because I tend to forget! Dr. Jones is very efficient. She doesn't rush when she meets with me. She's keen to make sure she's answered all of my questions before she moves on to her next appointment. read more

I had my first appointment with Dr. Jones on September 18. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted. The two ladies at the front desk are very friendly and welcoming. There is a basket full of samples for you to take which is great! Once I was called into the room, I had to wait about ten minutes for Dr. Jones. I have a scalp condition. I love the fact that she put on gloves and put the lamp over my head. She then parted my hair section by section. Other doctors that I've seen didn't even bother looking at my scalp. I used to see Dr. Charles at this practice, who was really nice and exceptionally good looking. Dr. Jones briefly spoke to me once about the Obagi skin care line that they sell there for $400. (which, I bought online btw for $201-and yes it was authentic, companies like to scare consumers about buying fake derm lines on the internet bc they want you to pay the marked up price. However sites like ebay and amazon guarantee authenticity, so have a field day, and your welcome.) While I enjoyed my visits with the doctor, I was always frustrated with the (typical NYC) attitude-ridden overwhelmed front-desk staff that can't handle working at a busy dermatology office. I've been a patient here for 2 yrs and continue to get inconsistent answers from the receptionists when calling in claims or prescriptions. One time, it took 4 weeks for one of them to fax my case to my insurance company. The only reason it got done was because I started calling everyday asking if they had done it yet. There's one girl, who is really sweet, overwhelmed, but nice. She is patient, but also could do a better job at *following through" with calling in prescriptions and getting back to patients when she says she will. The rest are argumentative and DO NOT listen! Do you think I like repeating myself 3 times in one conversation? These receptionists are the type to ask you a question and then when you reply, they'll cut you off mid-sentence with a "please hold." no warning, no "I'm sorry, but I have to pick up the other line." nope just a cold cut-off. One time on the phone, I gave my name, I spelled my name, and had an entire conversation about my prescription. Then, she says "let me look into it" puts me on hold, and then comes back with "what's your name?" Aaaaagh! I can lose my mind with people like this. This type of customer service is uncalled for! If you asked for my name and had me spell it out then HOW could you ask me again 1 min later? Poor customer service is my pet-peeve! Do you know how many asshole customers I had to suck up to when I worked in a dept. store when I was 20? Or how about being a server? I was always trained to anticipate needs, LISTEN to what the customer is wanting, and to FOLLOW THROUGH with results above and beyond what was expected. I was taught how to turn an angry customer into a satisfied customer. NOT hang up on them (which was done to me here), NOT ARGUE with them, and definitely not chastise them or blame them for the problem they're having (also happened). I'm really surprised by the lack of customer service SO many doctors offices have in this city! I REALLY want to tell New Yorkers, (and these receptionists) that the REST OF THE COUNTRY IS NOT LIKE THIS! People are usually really nice in places of business-and YES, they perform by the standards I listed above. Do they think that they are above being nice because Dr. Jones is in SUCH demand that they can be mediocre at their jobs and get away with it? I don't even know why I bother writing this b/c sadly, it is the administration that reads these yelp reviews and the doctor will (probably) never be informed of my complaint. read more

Dr. Jones and her staff are top notch!! Dr. Jones takes the time to meet with me and she actually takes her time and listens to your questions and concerns. She also is flexible - if a treatment is going as planned she will recommend an alternate course of treatment (other doctors are reluctant to do something different once they've prescribed a course of treatment). I've been a patient for years and have recommended Dr Jones to others. If I have one compliant it is the amount of time waiting to be seen -- sometimes 40 minutes or more. My children and I have been going to Dr. Jones for over a decade (since they were knee high to a grasshopper). Now they are teenagers and she still has the same wonderful bedside manner. She takes her time with each one - both professionally and personally. And she is the only dermatologist who can help address their severe eczema condition. Her practice is out of the way for us and our busy schedule and her hours do not make visits easy. We have to book well in advance and travel to get to her but it is well worth it. read more

To her credit, Dr. Jones is a remarkable physician, who's practice is hampered severely by an unprofessional staff, devastating appointment waits (and scheduling) and terrible prescription policy. Her staff continuously give patients the run around, and could care less about the experience of patients. Generally - appointments must be scheduled nearly a month in advance . . . The communication between staff members seems to be poor. Upon calling and discussing appointments/prescriptions, people tend to drop responsibilities, not recall conversations that have occurred, etc. Dr. Jones needs to trip the fat! One horror story jumps out - my good friend arrived for an appointment about 2 weeks ago, was forced to wait approximately 1.5 hours - and THEN was told, the Doctor could not see her that day. Needless to say, that was the last time she visited Dr. Jones. Additionally - for whatever reason, this office refuses to call in routine prescriptions (for skin care), unless one comes into the office for an appointment approximately every 6 months. read more

Dr. Jones came highly recommended, but I was unable to book an appointment. I called twice and was asked to hold. Both times I waited for 5-7 minutes in silence (no music or anything) before giving up and hanging up. The second time was me trying hours later thinking they were busy the first time. BAD first impression. I got the impression the receptionist wasn't in the mood at the moment and just didn't care or that this was some strange protocol considering it happened twice. Bad business. At least add music or have the reception check in on you or explain why you're on hold or give you an estimate. Leaving an interested possible patient in silence and confusion is just sloppy. Plus derms are usually hard to schedule so I wouldn't have been surprised if Dr. Jones wouldn't be available for a month or two out so I was not going to become a patient of a popular/hard-to-schedule dermatologist if this is the quality of reception staff I'm working with. Actually, I have an appointment today after having to change it 4 times due MY insurance issues, her staff was amazing and understood at every cost! I have reccommended countless people to her and they LOVE her! She is awesome! On a personal note, I was diagnosed with skin cancer after being treated by OTHER dermatologists for years for something else! As soon as she saw me and saw my skin, she KNEW! Dr. Jones is the second dermatologist I have seen in the city. Dr. Jones is very caring and understanding, it helped that she actually remembered me and my issues from my previous visits. She gives TONS of free samples and coupons. The front desk staff is very nice and accommodating, unfortunately I once had to cancel an appointment literally 15 minutes before the appointment and they were very helpful and understanding. I give it only four stars because of the two times Ive been there, one of the times I had to wait over 15 minutes to be seen(and I was on time), this was a bit tough as I was coming from work. The second time I believe I was seen within 2-3 minutes and Dr. Jones herself came to get me from the waiting area :). I have not stopped seeing Dr. Jones but I am also seeing another dermatologist that was highly recommended, and not because Dr. Jones is not good at what she does, but when you are dealing with skin issues it is normal to try to get more than one opinion. After my next appointment with my other dermatologist, I will follow up with her to let her know what my updated skin routine is. read more
