I do not normally write reviews but I have been going here for 6 years brought tons of people and constantly rave about this being the best hibachi in Katy tx. Today I had some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I set up a pickup order to be ready for 11:45am, placed the order online around 10:30am. I got to the restaurant at 12:10 and was told they did not have my order. I came back again to show them my phone and they mysteriously found my order which had not been made yet. I explained to the woman up front that claimed she was the manager at the moment that my order was supposed to be ready 45 min ago and she immediately got defensive with me and said she just received it 30 minutes after the order was supposed to be ready to go for pickup and as I was talking trying to explain the situation she ignored me and answered the phone in the middle of our conversation without asking me to hold on or any type apology for how long I had been waiting for my food. I stood and waited for her to finish and tried to speak with her again and she proceeded to ignore me and started talking to another customer behind me blatantly ignoring me to my face. I have never in my life been treated with such disrespect. As stated before I have been coming here for over 6 years and cannot believe how rudely I was treated today. The food here is always amazing and it's very unfortunate that I will no longer be bringing my business here or telling anyone about this restaurant due to my experience. A simple apology would have sufficed but to be blatantly ignored and disrespected in front of other customers is absolutely ridiculous and I will not be returning. read more

This is a steak and sushi place, featuring the interactive Benihana type grill tables. There's a large professional sushi bar as well. We walked in at 5PM to a mostly empty restaurant. There was one small party seated. We waited for an uncomfortable couple of minutes before one of the staff acknowledged us. Sat at a regular table, and ordered 6 pieces of salmon sushi, an order of shrimp tempura, and the Chicken Teriyaki entree. The waitress was nice, although she confusingly told us to "Enjoy!" after she took our order. The food came out and the salmon sushi, which was $2.50 for one piece, looked like it had been frozen and thawed more than once. I've eaten salmon sushi for years, and there's no way any respectable sushi chef would serve salmon in this condition. Of the 6 pieces, 2 looked edible and I sent the rest back. I should have sent them all back, because even these pieces were mushy, mealy and stringy. Unacceptable, especially at that price. The conveyor belt places are usually better. The tempura was decent although it was breaded in a panko crust. The teriyaki was just OK. Overall the quality was not even close to what I would expect from a "steak and sushi" restaurant at this price point. read more

So, my dear friend Brandon and I decided to take our mom (yeah, she adopted him) out to dinner. We met at her house and decided to go for either Sushi or Hibachi.. and guess what!? This place has both! We called in advanced to ask if there was a wait, and (of course) there was a 30 minute wait. They were very helpful and put our names on the list while we made it there. once we got there we got some wine from the bar and waited to be seated. About 15 mins later we were seated at our table. One thing I always forget about Hibachi restaurants is that you shouldn't go to hungry, because they take a little while preparing the food! It took about 10-15mins after we were seated for the chef to grace us with his presence, but once he got there, he got straight down to business. I ordered fillet Mignon and shrimp, my mom shrimp and chicken and Brandon Fillet Mignon. The combo meals (which were the ones we ordered) come with soup, salad and steamed rice. They charge $1.95 if you want to substitute for fried rice. My mom decided to have vegetables instead of rice. You can also just order sushi from the sushi side and they will bring it to your table. The food was great! I was hungry, so my judgment may have been a little biased. My meat was cooked to perfection and the fried rice, although not the best I've ever had, was great! The wine was also good and at $6 a glass, I thought was very affordable. Prices for the food however range from $13 to $32 per person. I believe mine was something like $23.95. Ended up coming back to Atari. Staff still thinks they decide what you will be tipping. I did not agree with the tip and tipped the chef $20 and tipped the drink server $20. I marked zero on tip and the waiter came back out and basically tried making me give him $30 because that what was they suggest you pay. I tipped total of $40 at lunch for party of 6 on a $170 bill. The people working here need a lesson on appropriate customer service concerning tips. If the food wasn't so good I wouldn't even come here but.... We come here a few times a year to have the steak and lobster hibachi.Normally the service is attentive and the food well cooked and seasoned.So tonight for my birthday we decided to come back.Bad decision..I don't know if they were having a bad night or if they were overwhelmed-2 of the 4 hibachi tables were full when we arrived around 5pm which usually isn't the case. Our chef (older guy) seemed like he was burnt out on the whole spectacle thing. He did a couple basic "tricks" but didn't confirm our steak doneness like they usually do, and everything was on the grill for way less time than we'd experienced before. He also didn't cut the steak and lobster into pieces we could actually fit in our mouths so had to ask for knives. The table next to us was seated before us and their chef was still cracking jokes and cooking food long after ours was served. (We really liked that guy when we were here last time) The fried rice was not cooked all the way and had bits of hardness still in it, the vegetables were mostly raw. The steak had almost no flavor, and as for the lobster..VERY disappointing. It had a stringy texture as well as little gritty bits which felt like sand when chewing. Really a negative experience for what was supposed to be my special occasion, and not sure if we will chalk it up to a bad night and try some other night or not.. read more

There Ten Don don't have a sauce over ice. The menu should call it tempura rice. A tempura sauce was provided on the side. In Japan, tendon will have a thick sauce on the rice but not tempura sauce. The sweet potato tempura was half cooked, hence hard. read more

So if I could give this place a "no star" rate, I would. Horrible reception. Horrible attitude towards customers. I made a reservation for a party of 9 people and I made it online. I got the confirmation via email and went to the restaurant with the group. Only to our dismay. The Asian lady that's supposed to welcome us seemed to not want to welcome us by giving us such an unwelcoming attitude. She was holding a notebook that has the reservation list and apparently we were not on her list even as I showed her the email confirmation. She insisted we do not have and just dismissed us like that. Clearly, they did not want to have business with us. Their reviews were bad but we gave it a try. Never coming here. read more

I have been coming to this restaurant for close to two years now and each time has been consistent. The food is always served quickly and the orders have been accurate. I have not found any place that serves such high quality sushi at that price point anywhere locally. The space is always clean and the staff are incredibly friendly! We have been coming over the years for mainly birthday events, graduation celebrations, etc. Always had a pretty good experience. Well last night was so unpleasant that we left before even getting a chance to order our food. So they lost out on money big time, because we also planned on buying drinks as well. The lady who sat us down, older Asian lady with her left eye partly shut, came up to my mother as she was putting her purse on her chair to sit down and proceeded to yell at her. Telling her she could not sit in the seat and grabbed her purse off the chair pushing it back to her. What happened is she miscalculated the seats (there was 7 of us) and instead of apologizing for her mistake she storms off. As we were leaving we were confronted as to why, then she got nasty when we told her she shouldn't have acted that way. I asked for a manager and no one responded. Then she shrugged her shoulders and said I'm the manager. She clearly was not, because all managers have a level of customer service which she did not have. I asked her what her name was, she laughed and said Maria. She obviously said that because she assumed we were Hispanic and was clearly adding to situation instead of making it better. I will be following up with the actual manager. This was by far the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant. Save your money, or go to Benihana's. Warning to anyone who visits. It was the first time I had eaten here in several months, and I was surprised when I received my bill that an 18% tip had been added. I always tip 18-20% however I do tip based on service, not because I feel like I have to. My service that night was terrible, and I can't help but wonder if it's because the waitress knows their tip is guaranteed. If people are not tipping your waitstaff, then increase your cost of goods and pay your staff more but do not add a tip to my bill for poor service. To preface, our experience was not bad, it was genuinely just ok. The food was very good. The chef cooked the food well, but did not quite play up to the very captive audience he had. The drinks were really great. We went in with a party of 10 for a hibachi table to celebrate my son's birthday. I understand a table with multiple children is never a waiter's dream, but the indifference in the attitude of our waitress took away from a special night out for our son. We all felt as though she simply did not want to deal with us while she did not refill our drinks regularly. After our meal she dropped our check, but this was before the cake I brought came out. I thought the hostess forgot to tell her about it and she got a little snarky with me when I asked her about it. It made a very uncomfortable cake cutting for our son. We also were only allowed to use one credit card for some reason, but that was just a mild inconvience. The food was good and I would probably try it again to give it another chance, but not on an important date because it was a bit of a bummer for my son. read more

Terrible service and customer service is non existent. Even though it was during a weather day and there wasn't any customers, we were asked to sit on the side of the hibachi grill. The servers had an attitude with us the entire time, not that we did anything but come dine in. They're short with us and rushed us to place our order. Their tone changed with a different group that they sat across from us and they were treated better. I'm appalled and won't ever be back after this experience. I chose the hibachi experience. The server was very friendly which was a plus. I ordered the steak and shrimp. I felt the portion sizes were small. Walking in we were greeted with a very strong musty mildew smell. That should have been our first clue to turn around and walk out. We were promptly seated at the hibachi grill. No wait on a Friday evening and not a lot of customers should have been our second clue to choose a different place for dinner. I had the Atami special. It comes with steak, chicken and shrimp. I also ordered the fried rice. The fried rice was just ok, nothing special. The grilled vegetables were disappointing as well. The quality of the ingredients were mediocre at best. I had ordered my steak rare but it was served med to med well. They also bring out soup and salad. I didn't care for the flavor of the soup. The salad was just sad looking, a small bowl of wilted lettuce with a ginger dressing. The only reason they are receiving 2 stars instead of one is because of the great service and a very entering cook. He really put on a good show and was very friendly. No, will not be going back to Atami. Guess I will be diving into Houston or down to Sugarland to get my hibachi fix. read more

Food was delicious and we plan on returning. The only reason I give it 4 and not 5 stars is because I found a piece of foil in our sushi. The server explained that the sushi was placed in the oven with foil and she would let the cooks know to be more careful. It wasn't a huge deal but I am glad I didn't eat the foil. read more

It's not Benihana but it's close and it's in Katy! My wife wanted Japanese hibachi food for her birthday but we didn't want to drive 30 minutes to get Benihana. Of all the places around like this this is the best one. Over the years the service has been hit or miss. I think the last time we were here we were not happy with the service so we hadn't returned for one or two years. I set my expectations low so I would not be disappointed. Tonight cook we had was very entertaining and accommodating. He fulfilled all of our requests without hesitation. The server was kind of cold at first but eventually warmed up and showed some personality. The food portions have gotten smaller over the years but the quality has remained consistent. We love the garlic butter that they use to cook with and asked for more when the food was being prepared. The fillet mignon was very soft and delicious as were the scallops. We always order this when we go to places like this and were not disappointed. I think had I not set a low expectation I would've given this place a three but because I did not expect a lot they exceeded my expectations and I felt they were worthy of a 4. Oh... And I would NOT recommend the Ahi appetizer. It had a fishy taste to it! read more

No issues there The chef was possibly the laziest, most dirtiest chef ever. Reasons: No show with the rice. You know, make a beating heart, Mickey Mouse, etc. And the chef decided at one point to slam the utensil he was using extremely loud, I have a son who is prone to panic attacks and it triggered him. Not to mention the fact that if food fell outside of the cooking area and into the dining area, instead of throwing it away, he either scooped it up and put it in the food again or gave it to the person who's plate was closest. As our chef & the staff was very kind, the hibachi presentation and food was mediocre. The food seasoning was imbalanced - I had the scallops & steak. Scallops were very salty, my steak had very little seasoning. We also ordered lobster & shrimp. Neither the scallops or lobster tasted fresh, had fishy aftertaste. The decor and ambiance is in a severe need of updating. It looks like the ceiling will cave in at any moment. read more

I've been to many hibachi restaurants over the years but this has been the best experience I have ever had! It started out a little rocky with the waitress embarrassing my grandma. She set a menu on the hot grill and the waitress was not very nice about it. This was my grandmas first time at a place like this and didn't even realize it was a grill. She's almost 90 years old I mean give her a break right?! Lol The waitress could tell we were upset and for the remainder of our visit, made it a point to be extra nice and attentive. I appreciated that she realized she was wrong and fixed it! Now on to the good stuff, our chef Joel was amazing! He was funny and very entertaining. He put on a great show and even allowed us to join in on the fun. He pulled out every trick in the book and even some new ones we had never seen before! He had us all stand and take turns catching rice in our mouths and even handed us the spatula so we could toss rice at each other. Haha! A couple of us even caught it! He made sure we had a blast and kept asking if there anything else we wanted to see or do. The food was amazing, perfectly cooked steak and juicy chicken, delicious rice and veggies! We will be going back for Mother's Day and my Grandmas birthday and asking for Joel! We promise Grandma won't melt a menu next time :'-D read more
