They have a blend of experienced to apprenticeship range for staff. I haven't chosen my go-to hairdresser because I don't go there that often, every ~6months. The Aveda line of products is amazing but very expensive. The salon's location and interior is great. Great follow-up and booking accommodations online and via text. The ambiance is also very friendly, a host to check you in at the front and the facilities are modern and very clean. When you get a really great haircut, you feel like you can take on the world. Ladies, you know what I mean. After years of bad haircuts elsewhere, I reconnected with my tried-and-true rock star of a hair stylist, Liz at Atelier Studio. I used to see Liz religiously when she worked in Alameda back in the day. One year however, after an extended trip overseas, I returned home to find that Liz had moved away. I was so bummed. I knew it would be difficult to find a good replacement stylist, but boy, little did I know. I tried stylist after stylist at different salons in Alameda, and never got a cut I was really satisfied with. I have a finicky, hard-to-manage hair type, and the new stylists I tried out just didn't know how to work with it effectively. I ended up with haircuts that didn't look great, and grew out even worse. My partner was growing tired of listening to my tales of hair woe, and being tasked with performing corrections on my hair after bad cuts. So RB, being the voice of wisdom, encouraged me to find out where Liz works now and make a trip to see her. I believed Liz was somewhere in the South Bay, but wasn't sure. I reached out to Liz and she responded letting me know she is now at Atelier in San Jose. San Jose is not exactly close to Alameda, but I don't know why I imagined it was much more of a haul than it actually is. RB reminded me that it's not in a different universe, and worth a trip a few times a year if it means a haircut I'm happy with. So I set up an appointment with Liz. I was welcomed in by a very nice receptionist and took a seat to wait. They have an incredibly comfy couch in the waiting area that you sink into, I almost fell asleep in it. The radiant Liz, who looked as if she hasn't aged a minute since the last time I saw her years ago, showed up, welcomed me, and took me back to her station. We started with an amazing scalp massage. I never wanted to get out of that chair. After that, a very thorough shampoo and conditioning, and then began my haircut and a much-needed catch-up session with Liz. We picked up right where we left off. I don't know how Liz has such a good memory, but she remembered all kinds of details about my life, and took an interest in talking about them. She truly makes you feel comfortable. There used to be a TV commercial that went "Have a problem? See your hairstylist!". Well in this case, it's true. It's like getting an awesome haircut and a therapy session in one. I left the salon feeling like a new person. I won't lie, haircuts here are pricey, but you are on $antana Row, and you know the saying, you get what you pay for. I met RB who was waiting for me at a cafe down the street, and he told me how good it is to finally see me happy with my hair. Thank you, Liz! The salon experience was awesome! Well, it has been a while. The last time I was at Atelier Studio was June 12th, 2025. It was for a haircut for a wedding one of my cousins was getting prepped for. After the wedding, few days later was my birthday. Like a week after my birthday on July 1st, I took an international trip to the Czech Republic to visit some of my relatives there, go on like "a week tech break" and enjoy life in a way to take a break from technology (though I use a flip phone). I shared with Leyla and I think the one receptionist who was wearing a red costume or something that time (sorry I forgot and terrible with names). But it's like a way to unwind and be free. Speaking of unwind and being free, I am glad that it did because it relieves stress and it happened at Atelier Studio on the 30th of October when I saw Leyla again! Seeing Leyla was an absolute pleasure and it's awesome! I loved the service Leyla provided and she has been taking care of my hair from haircuts to wash and scalp treatments for 4 years which, man! Man, 4 years already! Also, this year marks 4 years with her and throughout the 4 years, it is always awesome! Leyla was so kind, sweet and just so great! I loved it when it comes to the wash and scalp massage and applying nice products with a good and nice scent! Very nice and smells awesome! I have to thank Leyla and Atelier Studio for taking care of me for 4 years and man, it's a journey. Also, I have to give credit to Leyla and Atelier Studio because for my hair, being such beautiful and amazing people and also, what they do for me and the people is awesome. Also, I have to credit Leyla and Atelier Studio, beautiful people as a part of my life. Growing up, I didn't have that in my childhood but as I grew up, I am grateful to embrace that. You know a salon means customer experience when they provide their clients with tea in an actual ceramic mug vs a paper cup. Bonus points that the tea actually tastes good. I have been donating my hair for the last decade, and the hair stylists at Atelier Studio do a great job of handling it. I've had a few issues with other studios when I require my hair be cut for donation (even if I make note of it when booking the appointments), but Atelier Studio made it so painless. I typically provide the zip loc bag to store my hair and will bring rubber bands just in case. Cady did a great job braiding my long hair into 4 different braids before cutting it, and she even provided the hair elastic bands to make the process easier. Hair washing was a relaxing experience with some head massaging. I opted for the deep conditioning - you can't do it all one but can easily add it to any service. Afterwards I pulled up a photo of how my short hair was in the past and Cady was able to recreate my previous short hair style while also making sure to check in on how I felt about the bang lengths, weight, layers, etc. She really took my hair thickness into consideration and the shape of my face. I was really satisfied with the whole process. I have been coming to Atelier Studio for years, even back when they had a salon on the main drag of Santana Row. Even though the location has transformed over the years the service and experience still remains wonderful. Every stylist I've worked with has done a great job with my hair, from the consultation to the washing, haircut, and the blow outs. I really like the Aveda products used here since they don't feel heavy but do the job thoroughly. Again, if you are looking to treat yourself (and your hair)... I've seen Aunna (Frances) before, bounced around to a couple of other stylists, and now am back with Aunna. I really appreciate her because she's the stylist thats: 1. Consistently on time 2. Not changing my appointments 3. Careful with my ears MOST IMPORTANTLY! She listened to me and has made a recommendation that's right for me--I told her that I love my short hair, but the maintenance is greater. I don't want to put a ton of effort into it, and it's expensive to have short hair. Rather than recommending a full haircut every four weeks (which would honestly be unaffordable and drive me to another salon), she recommended a dry cut in the middle of my full haircuts and that's just the perfect cadence and time commitment for me. First time at Atelier and it was a great experience! Service starts once you walk in! As I entered to check in, the front desk offered water or tea. Sat down at the waiting area and hairstylist was ready immediately. One of my favorite parts was the oil and massage. Never had that treatment at a salon before but it was so relaxing as I have a lot of tension in the shoulders and head. Also got my hair washed as she was explaining how to properly wash your hair which was helpful because I was definitely over washing it, whoops. I have gotten short hair before, but it's been awhile so glad to get back into my short hair era! Love the cut! My hairstylist was Espe and she was great! Talked me through the whole process to reassure me especially with such a big chop/transformation. Also, huge shoutout to Alice, general manager, for introducing me to this salon! She's communicative and so sweet! Shop is quite small, but not too cramped which is good. Everyone seems nice as workers pass by with a smile or compliment the hair. I had a reservation for several services: roots, highlights, toner and blowdry, total about 3-3.5 hours. I was 30 minutes late, but they said they didn't have time to do anything but roots. moreover, I had to go home and rinse color at home and had to pay for everything I booked. I understand that I was late, but I was shocked. I ve been their client for a long time, I literally had a reservation for 3 hours, and they said they could perform like a 20 minute service. In the end, they agreed to rinse my hair. I was always flexible and understanding when they called me and asked to come later or they didn't have time for blowdry, or when they didn't rinse the color properly, or when they didn't color my greys completely, or when they sold me defective products.
