I'm diggin' the place! It's a huge abandoned auto shop with a garage that's been transformed into an upscale hair salon. The place has funk and flavor. The employees are diverse and the music is mainstream and hip. I can tell this place is popular because right when they opened his morning, a group of women stormed in with their appointments and already getting started on the hair. I love the fact that they offer fresh coffee or tea in the shop and they hold conversations with their clients. Recently visited my favorite hair stylist, Yanin, for an overall highlight/color. Girlfriend took me a place I've never been before-- Ash Blonde! And I absolutely love it. The whole process took about 6.5 hours (as expected when you go from dark to light and when you have someone as meticulous as Yanin hand painting strand by strand! YAAAASS QUEEN!) so I had time to really observe the place. I love this space and the ambience! It's bright, airy, and well decorated with tasteful indoor plants! It doesn't give off the snooty vibe of usual high end salons. It's clean, well ventilated, and each stylist has his/her own personal work space. I didn't notice any unprofessional behavior such as gossiping about clients, eating in front of clients, etc., which is usually the case at some other salons. read more

Love love this trendy and hip place. Service is nice, online reservation is available. Atmosphere is chill and relaxing. Their shampoo and products also have the best smell!! Jasmine is the BEST when it comes to color and cut. She pays attention to details and is a perfectionist. I went for a color + ombre balayage with her and it came out perfect. I'm very picky when it comes to hair and I can't stop staring at my hair after the visit. I also get the best blowout from one of the staff (a nice guy with yellow hair), sorry i forgot to get his name. I've been seeing Yanin now for 5 years. For the first several hair cuts I loved my hair. She really understood what worked well for my hair and how I liked to style it very simple. I needed something easy and low maintenance. I usually just get a small trim and long layers. She's colored my hair a couple of times but it didn't go as expected so I've been seeing a different stylist for that. The last 3 hair cuts (technically 5 including this mortifying cut I have now *tears) I've had to come back to fix. I'll spare the details but I'm so disappointed about my last few experiences over the last 2 weeks. I went in for my usual cut - a small trim and to redo my layers. She curled my hair so I couldn't really tell the style but I woke up the next morning and noticed my hair was all one length. No layers. I sent her a message asking her to fix it. This was very odd because I literally ask for the same thing every time. I went back and waited 25 minutes to be seen. She washed my hair and then started cutting and cutting and cutting. I thought this is odd did she really need to cut this much? It was almost like she thought you want layers? I'll give you layers! The cut was super choppy, uneven, and not flowy at all. Totally opposite of how it usually is. I was so disappointed because I'm going on a big trip in a month and I've never hated my hair more. I came in with long hair and long layers and left with 5 inches off (when I wanted a trim....) and half of my hair thickness since she went a little crazy with the scissors. And to top it all off - the bottom (the part without the layers) is UNEVEN. So again - I reach out and show her the photos. She blames it on how I style my hair, my hair straightener, and that I need to use a leave in conditioner. Seriously...Is it really that hard for her to apologize and admit fault? I went back again... for the 3rd time in 1.5 weeks. She fixed the bottom but now I have a ton of random layers and literally 1/4 of my hair is the size of my bangs. I never received any apologies BTW. It was always more of an acknowledgement like oh I see what you're saying or a ton of excuses. I will be taking my business else where as the cuts are very expensive at $110 and it is no longer worth the price. I'm bummed because I've received some great cuts but now it's too stressful because I'll never know what I come out with. read more

I was an associate at Bigsby House for six months. Although it didn't turn into my forever salon home I'd like to share my experience during my time there. Bigsby is an exceptionally run salon. I went to Bigsby House for the first time last week to see Yanin, who recently joined the team. Yanin has been my only stylist for the last 5 years, even though I moved to Seattle two years ago. Thanks to her haircuts, I can literally just wake up in the morning and go -- no styling necessary! She knows that I usually air dry, so she works with the texture of my hair to keep it super low maintenance. I get my hair cut about 2-3x a year, and I love how my hair can grow out for a few months and still be easy to maintain. On top of her expertise, Yanin is so smart, kind, and fun to talk to. For all my life I've been getting $15 hair cuts from those small Asian boutiques. Never have I ever gone to a real salon where I felt pretty and pampered (I even wore a silky black robe). It was the first time I ever got my hair shampooed and it was amazing. Jackie Lebrun was my hair stylist and words cannot explain how thankful I am for her to be able to LISTEN to what I wanted and actually cut my hair how I imagined. I'm a curl-a-holic... I love long loose curls in my layered hair. You can only imagine how awful my split ends were. The goal was to remove my split ends, trim, relayer and keep the length. On top of that, she gave me a hair treatment to help make my hair smooth. She also showed me some products to use when I curl or blow dry my hair to avoid heat damage. I had an awesome experience at my first hair appointment at Bigsby with Yanin! She texted me a few days before my appointment about what I wanted and what to expect. I sent her a few of my inspiration photos for a brown balayage, and she pretty much nailed it. It took 6 long hours but it was totally worth it! Yanin made me feel very welcomed and she was the sweetest girl ever. She is obviously experienced and knowledgeable about her work, and she tells you exactly the steps she's doing with your hair in order to get the results you want. I'll be posting the progress of my hair as I go lighter at the tips. The other stylists in there also were very friendly and had great rapport with their clients. I was impressed with how busy they got on a weekday because initially I thought they were just a small salon (from the looks of the building from outside), but their studio is spacious and beautifully decorated. read more

Bigsby House is where you need to be getting your hair done. All stylists are amazing but Yanin is a magician when it comes to blonde hair. I had been hopping around from salon to salon finding someone who could handle my curly, dark hair and get it blonde without frying it. She walked me through the process ( it's quite a process) and voila, a few short hours later my hair was summer blonde ready. She's a perfectionist so be prepared for a relaxing salon experience. You can't rush perfection so don't expect a rushed appointment. The salon is open and airy, relaxing and inviting so just sit back and enjoy it. It's like a mini vacay. But back to Yanin... Again, she's a magician and perfectionist who takes her craft seriously so you'll never have to worry. She wont let you leave until you're happy with the result. She can tend to run a few minutes late but I'd rather have someone take their time to do my hair than rush me out of her chair. I can't even begin to describe how amazing she is! Phat asked me to come in and be a model for him and he did an excellent job with a difficult cut-trying to grow a pixie into a short bob. He took a lot of time to make sure every detail was perfect and one of the co-owners of the salon (wish I could remember her name!) also frequently checked in to give input. One topic that I particularly appreciated is that for the shape of the cut, they took into consideration how I normally style my hair (in my case, not at all-I go to bed with wet hair and work with however it looks when I get up in the morning!) They were both a pleasure to hang out with as well, and I love the minimalistic/modern atmosphere of the salon. :) Parking wasn't a problem for me, but I came at around 5 on a Tuesday night. Maybe weekday evenings are easier than weekends. A little over a month later, my hair is still in great shape, even though it's grown out. Pualani gets 5 stars. She is amazing and a true artist. I came to her with this disaster of a hair color from another stylist. She turned me from some transvestite raggedy ann to a golden goddess. I would recommend her any day, particularly if you want to get highlights or go lighter. She listens to what you want and really goes the extra mile. The one star drop is for the location. On some days there is no parking. There is a very fine line between ticket zones and acceptable parking zones, and it's hard to tell which is which.
