It took a lot of discipline for both of us, there were many days when he felt like he just wanted to nap or a break. Some days his asthma triggered bad but there's no excuse unless if he ran a fever. (although she has arrangements for drop ins if that's your style) 5) It's a manageable commitment for a busy person as it's only 1 hour a day and it only takes me 5 minutes to get there! 6)Enjoy her playlist which she changes quit often which makes me more happy to dance for a new number. 7) It's great company. The classes are max 7 or 8, sometimes smaller, and generally all women. Lots of moms. Great conversation every time. 8) There's an on-line scheduler so it's easy to to check on your class for the day. 9) Sonia is a great person! 10) Sonia is an awesome trainer! Several years ago my family went through something very traumatic that left me holding on mentally for dear life. So physically I went downhill and gained a lot of weight. I tried other gyms and other trainers to help me out of my rut over the years. I tried many diets too. Nothing clicked. None of it helped physically AND mentally. It only seemed to help physically which would lead me in a downward spiral mentally after a few short weeks. BBD works with all ages and all athletic abilities. They really know their stuff especially when it comes to preventing injury and they work closely with you to modify the work out if you have preexisting injuries. This year I joined Fred's crew and he checked in frequently on my preexisting back and knee issues. We made sure to modify movements like lunges and dead lifts to movements that worked out the same muscle group but didn't aggravate my back and knees. Now that those muscle groups are much stronger I can do much more than I have ever been able to in the gym. The small group training format gives you the feel and attention of a personal trainer but is much more affordable. I moved away 3 years ago and when I came back I was at my heaviest I have ever been. BBD welcomed me back with open arms. I dropped a lot of weight, I feel better than ever, and I can't stop checking myself out in the mirror. I would give BBD 6 stars if I could.

Most of all I was impressed by their professionalism and skill with guiding their clients through the weight training circuit. There is a very precise methodology and protocol that they are following. I liked it and found benefit to each of the components of it. It's clear that the program was very carefully and painstakingly thought out. Training for this job must be intense. The workout was extremely strenuous, especially when you have been there a while and built up some strength. Having sessions a half hour long is totally appropriate when you are working as hard as you do there and making your way thought the machines at a very efficient pace. Another thing I really appreciated about the trainers here is that they both clearly seemed to have a degree in exercise physiology. I have worked with several trainers before and the ones that actually studied this in college are far more effective. Being so attuned to athletic performance the trainers can tell when you are getting to your limit and can help to push you on. They're great at motivating so you can squeeze every last drop of strength out of your muscles. That said, they also are totally respectful if you need to take a breather, get water and let your heat rate come down a bit. As an out of shape person looking to build muscle for the sake of my health- I felt comfortable here and did not feel judged or that the trainers had any opinion of me being unfit. They were only kind, accepting and motivating. This has not been the case with other trainers I've worked with before and it is noteworthy. They get a gold star for professionalism. I would have liked to continue on but my financial situation changed and I needed to focus resources elsewhere. The cost for sessions is high but it is also worth it for the the amount of focus the trainers put into your work and the fact that it is 100% private.

ATX Gym has you covered. It's small, intimate and efficient. From what I've seen, the full spectrum of fitness levels finds a home here from those who could do Olympic lifts in their sleep to those who are just getting their feet wet (me). The classes always have a purpose and a plan but offer a lot of variety. Weightlifting, strength straining, booty building workshops, yoga, stretch, calisthenics, cardio conditioning, HIIT, dance--There's something for everyone. That's key for me personally, as I tend to get bored really fast and lose interest if it's the same thing every day. And the classes are small! No more than 6 people, which is the sweet spot between getting personal training and enjoying the comradery of others. It definitely helped me feel less intimidated, because let's be honest... walking into a group of strangers in unflattering workout clothes not knowing what to expect can be anxiety inducing. Lacey (owner and trainer) was so sweet, warm and welcoming! I felt welcomed immediately by her and the other few people in our group that were super supportive. Lacey and Max are knowledgeable hands-on owners that run their own classes and really invest a lot of time and energy into you. We signed up for the pool and walking track. We have tried different times to get access to the…read morelanes of the pool, however, between classes, and others spilling over into the lanes, it has been difficult to access and we've let the membership ride. We decided to cancel our membership and then they about faced and said they had to cancel the following month and we had to pay for it. The track can get ridiculous with PT using track area for one on one stuff with no regard for those on the track. They would rather have us pay this last month after our cancelation then hope we would come back. I felt like this was Vic Tanny way of doing business. Sad, absurd, and disgusting. They threatened to continue to charge our card and report to creditors if we didn't make the payment.... it's a month to month plus 1 so be aware of their business practices.

I started…read moreworking out with one of the trainers, Lauren (also a good friend of mine, full disclosure here) last July. So basically, you do extremely heavy weights extremely slowly. You totally max out your muscles until you quite literally can't do anymore. And then sometimes, you want to hurl. And often, extremely foul words fly out of my mouth while working out with her. Actually, this morning, as I was doing leg press I think I said "Dang. I sound like a dude" because I did. You know, the big burly dudes at the gym who grunt and sound weird. Me, this morning. I have seen pretty cool results from this. I do weights once a week with her. You heard me - once a week! And my muscles stay really nicely toned. Now, you have to eat right, and do some cardio too, this isn't a magic workout that suddenly gives you a perfect body, but especially if you're a female, building muscle mass is very important. This is a way to do that without spending hours at the gym, or even having a gym membership for that matter. But you also can't be a big wimp and quit. Gotta trust the trainers and push yourself. I lovehate it. But I keep going back so I guess the love wins. Oh and they will work you out for free the first time. So if you're just curious, you can try it out and see what you think. I know, I sound like an ad for this place, but I really think it's good stuff and I feel great about myself when I see that I'm doing more weight, or going longer on a certain machine. And I love that little muscle that runs from my shoulder down my arm that is all nicely defined now!
