This was the worst Greek food we've ever eaten. Start with the Lobster Bisque that has no lobster in it but some kind of faux seafood pretending to be lobster. Really folks? One should have guessed from the low price that there was not one bit of lobster in this soup. In addition it was goopy from some kind of thickener. Next came the Ionian platter - a ton of food that was enough to share with a family of four. Quantity, however, does not make up for low quality and food that is overcooked and not flavorful. You can skip this place folks. Unless you just need to get some grub in your tummy and don't care about quality or taste. read more

O! What flavor! Athena Gyro is the pinnacle of Greek cuisine outside of Greece, and even then I am sure there are some Greek villages whose food pales in comparison. George and the staff are wonderful, beautiful people who welcome you with open arms. It's a pleasure dining here time after time, and I haven't felt this full and content since the previous time I ate here. My only regret is my inability to take the entire restaurant with me when I leave, but that is my fault, not theirs. I plan on coming back every chance I get, because nothing in life compares to their chicken souvlaki, not even spending time with my loved ones. read more

What a great addition to this small town! We came in a few weeks ago and ordered the chicken gyros and they were excellent! I'll be placing another order today! The staff is super friendly and helpful. They deliver which is a plus since not many places offer that option around here. I'm hoping to dine in one day since we've only done takeout thus far. They do have a cute outdoor seating place which we can hopefully try out. Highly recommended! read more

Stopped here on a trip north and so happy we did. Service was outstanding. The small greek salad was big enough for two and full of fresh, delicious ingredients. The roasted lemon potatoes were perfect. We tried a greek coffee for the first time which is kind of like an espresso - very strong. I enjoyed it and also appreciated the owner(?) coming over, asking if we'd had one before, and giving us a little tutorial. This place clearly takes pride in their craft and takes great care of its customers. Will certainly return next time we're in the area. read more

Great Greek food. I'm a vegetarian and they had tons of options, including vegetarian moussaka and pastitsio (sp?) Had a pleasantly lemony hummus and a massive falafel with pita. I'm not usually a fan of tzatziki but theirs was thick and flavorful, I think it may have had some feta mixed in. Non veg hubs loved his gyro. 9/9/2016 Went to Athena Gyro the first Saturday since they opened. The restaurant was in complete chaos! The crowd was huge inside and out! I placed my order to go and was told twenty minutes for two full Gyro platters, a Greek Salad and an order of Dolmades. I can back thirty minutes later and the order wasn't started. So, I waited at the counter for an hour and ten minutes. Long story short, the crew was slammed that night and I can't bash a new establishment that was operating on their very first Saturday during the Summer. The owners were very kind and comped me one of my meals and threw in two, huge and delicious pieces of Galaktoboureko! I brought the food home and it was still hot. My Daughter and I tore into our plates and ate as much as we could, the portions were HUGE and DELICIOUS!!! The family that runs Athena Gyro know how to make good food and take care of their customers. Once things calm down with the crowds, this will be a "go to" for me. It's that good....... I wish them well in their new restaurant and hope they keep up the quality and hospitality. read more

I am so glad a restaurant like this opened up locally. Menu is well rounded and the food is delicious. Friendly staff, and an owner is usually present as well. My one complaint is that they do not offer a small "side greek salad" which you could get along with your meal. read more

One never knows what to expect when pulling over at a roadside restaurant. I got lucky when I chose Athena Gyro! It's pleasant, clean, and has big windows for natural light. More than that, friendly Brianna was an efficient server of their delicious food. I enjoyed their Avgolemono Soup. The portion of a "side" of gyro meat was very generous, and the tzatziki was the perfect complement. All of this was quick and affordable as I'm heading to my destination. We were going to eat outside for the first time since the pandemic and we were told that we weren't allowed to because the owner didn't like the aesthetic of paper plates and tinfoil. Forget the fact that the staff is wearing gator masks which are not effective and some people were not wearing masks at all, this establishment was more interested in what aesthetics then keeping people safe. Found this place on Yelp on our way home from Massachusetts. Being a Greek myself, I found it so cool to find a Greek restaurant off the highway I happened to be on in the middle of nowhere. The restaurant decor has a very Greek feel to it. Even Greek music was playing in the background. The owner and waitress were so friendly and polite. The menu was very versatile with so many Greek dishes available to order. The Avgolemono soup was really good, as was the Greek salad. We had the chicken souvlaki platter with rice, tsasiki and pita bread. ALL was very good and tasted great and very fresh! Pricing was very fair, can't complain. You won't find any better than this outside of Astoria, Queens. Trust me, this place is very good! read more

Have been a few times now, and have come away satisfied each time. The gyros are huge and tasty; the falafel are crispy and satisfying. Athena is the kind of gyro you know and love on steroids! The other Greek treats have been a little hit or miss - the spanakopita was just OK, while the pasticcio was very delicious. The greek salad is terrific too. I still shed a tear when I think about the loss of Kavos a few years ago. But Athena does a nice job filling in the gap and satisfying the Jones for a good dose of Greek, and with a much bigger menu and set of options. I had the most delicious lunch here. My girlfriend and I ordered Greek salads with grilled chicken. The salad had fresh dill, feta, moist grilled chicken, olives, sweet red onions, and bell pepper. I also ordered a side of sautéed spinach which was so soft and delicious, it melted in my mouth! The service was friendly and quick. Can't wait to try this place again. read more

On the way to the diner down the road I noticed Athena Taverna. What a good detour! (I have lamented the dearth of Greek restaurants since moving to the mid Hudson valley from Queens) The place was packed and super busy but we sat outside comfortably and the many talented owner tended to our needs quite efficiently. Prasini salads, moussaka, lamb gyro and tadtziki were all fresh and delicious. Our accompanying Greek salads are coming home with us. Lemon French fries instead of lemon potatoes were still yummy! Love coming here for lunch, best gyro I've had. Goes well with a side of fries! Lovely service, nice restaurant, nothing more you could really ask for. We stopped there after visiting the Salt Therapy Room. We were greeted warmly. The service was very good. The food was really good and the portions were big! I had the lentil soup. It was delicious. Coming from Bergen County, NJ I was spoiled having a gyro place in all directions, however Dutchess County leaves much to be desired when scratching the Mediterranean food itch...passed this place this past summer on the way to Zoe's Ice Cream and knew I had to try. Made the right choice. Friendly staff, charming owner who takes the time to greet each customer warmly, delicious food served hot and seasoned properly. Octopus was braised until tender and grilled, contrasting soft flesh with crispy tentacles done to perfection, accented with a squirt of lemon. Gyro platter was immense, preceded by a large Greek salad with dolmades. The gratis Christmas cookie plate was a nice touch last month as well. 4.5/5 read more
