This will be my favorite Greek restaurant of all time. I love greek food and it's the most authentic greek food I've had since I was in Greece. They have been open since last Thursday and I've eaten here 3 times. Everything I've tried was great. The salad tastes like is was just cut fresh. The variety is wonderful as are the options on sides. They have a nice children's menu and several vegetarian options. This is a charming place. The service is friendly, curtious and fast. I've never had to wait long for food to come out after the order was placed. You can eat in, take out and I was told they deliver, unfortunately I'm to far away for this service. I can wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes Mediterranean cuisine or olive oil, oregano, good feta cheese and olives. read more

This restaurant is light and airy inside, it is bright and casual .... very nice atmosphere. There was a large group there enjoying themselves ... heard Opa! Opa! from their table. Sat outside, very nice. We had the oregano chicken with lemon potatoes and the vegetarian peppers filled with rice, which also came with the lemon potatoes. Started off with a Greek salad that was the highlight of the meal, very fresh, with a fantastic greek dressing....love the dressing...they should bottle and sell it. The main dishes were, in my opinion a bit bland. The potatoes are simply boiled with a bit of lemon flavor. Order extra taziki sauce and dip the potatoes in it, nice flavor. You do get a lot of food. We took home a doggie bag and the potatoes were fried up with a bit of butter, olive oil and turmeric the next day along with some of the chicken. Along with the left over taziki, it was a nice meal. We did have the baklava cheescake for dessert, shared....it was good, very light, not like regular cheesecake. But that salad, that dressing, I will go back for that.....had stuffed grape leaves in the salad too....minty and fresh.... really good. read more

Real Good, went twice, all kinds of Greek food, not just gyros, the soups are great and I'm not a soup person, Greek Salad was great

Appears good for gyros, ionic platters, greek salads, spinach pie, moussaka, and falafel. However, beware the kabobs as they appear pre-made and may be overcooked for sure. Next time, I will ask if they were just made ahead of time to be sure. The way I know is that I requested the lamb to be slightly uncooked. However what I received was not fresh and juicy but tough to remove from the skewer and cool to the touch. All else good but understaffed on busy nights. Absolutely loved our souvlaki dinner, as authentic as any I've had outside of Greece, including REAL, home made french fries!

I ordered again for a change in cuisine! And again I am impressed with the service great food and overall ambiance of the place! Being a chef myself I am kinda hard to please but this place hasn't failed so far the owners base and pride there business on freshness and quality and it surely shows!!!! This was convenient to the Taconic Parkway. They serve tasty warm pita with tzatziki, and main dishes come with a good-sized salad that has the right amount of feta, olives, and dressing (but not too much. While dining with a friend at another restaurant in Wappinger Falls today for lunch, the chef from that restaurant recommended this restaurant. Haven't eaten Greek food for many years. The last time I ate Greek food was it a restaurant in Astoria Queens probably 35 years ago. This is not only my new favorite cuisine , but also my new favorite restaurant. My husband and I shared an eggplant dip with awesome pita bread. This was followed by a Greek salad that came with my meal that was enough for two of us to share plus take home leftovers. I'm a vegetarian and for those vegetarians out there know that this restaurant has several options for us. My husband opted for beef Souvlaki which he thoroughly enjoyed and a side of fries which we had to take home. Too much! I had the vegetarian pastitsio that was excellent and enough for two, so needless to say I took home some for myself as well. As stuffed as we both were I had to try the Greek coffee and a dessert called bougatsa. A phyllo dough with a warm Custard in the middle topped off with powdered sugar. My taste buds went to heaven tonight. Owner was very inviting and gracious. Wait staff very friendly and attentive . Restaurant bright , cheerful and extremely clean. Can't wait to return and try something else. This time I will go prepared with an empty stomach. LOL. Do yourself a favor & come out and try this gem. Real greek food in the Hudson Valley. One of my favorites. I just wish it wasn't a 20 min drive away.

My first visit was the day they opened, and it seems like I am drawn back again and again. The food is very authentic and very fresh. Every time I go there I check behind the building if they have a garden where they just picked the salad greens for my meal. Greek food if you don't know it, has a lot of the flavors in common with Italian food. The difference is more meat and fish and less tomato, and at Athena Gyro the flavors are rich of Oregano, Lamb, Beef, Olive oil and Garlic. The atmosphere is Bright and Clean, the wait staff is quick and friendly and there is plenty of parking and lots of room in the dining area. They have a table that seats 8 so even big parties are welcome. The owners Giorgios (George) and Alex will make you feel like you are family. Saturday night at 7 we got a table waiting only 5 minutes. But that was the 3rd night they were openand we were only 2, so maybe you should call ahead. The first night I had the Athenian Platter, with fries and spinach. You can choose your vegetable and if you don't want fries you can have the really fabulous rice. The salad that came with the meal was a bowl about 8" diameter and about 4" deep with the freshest lettuce I have ever been served. There were tomatoes onions a wine leaf, mild pickled pepper and Greek feta, served with THE BEST greek dressing I have ever had, and some oregano. I would drive miles for this salad alone. The Athenian Platter is a 14" plate covered with large portion of spinach, generous amount of french fries, that are more like steak fries, but mostly the meats. The bevteki is a ground beef with unique spices that are soooo good! Just as good is the Gyro, lamb and beef with completely different spices, and a skewer of pork called souvlaki. By the time I was half way through my main course I did not have room for the rest. There is no shame in asking for a dogie bag here! I did not order desert, but even here they are unique, you get Baklava, Galactobureco and others that I can't name, I was able to sample a spoon full off of the others I was sitting with. Athena Gyro opened on Aug. 18 at 1167 Route 55 in LaGrangeville. It is open seven days a week. The other visits were equally good and the portions were all more than enough. They are open 10 days and I have been back 5 times...that must say something too. read more

So, I'm Greek and like to think I know Greek food but Athena Gyro was the best Greek food I've had in my 61 years. The Htapothi sti Skhara(Grilled Octopus) was out of this world. Spices and seasoning were beyond compare and it just melted in your mouth. Such a treat ! Followed by a Greek Salad with very generous helping of Feta and dolmades(stuffed grape leaves). I judge a Greek Salad by how much I have to search for the Feta---no problem here: top, middle and bottom of my salad. Finally the baklava-paper thin filo, nuts and honey done just right. Athena Gyro has the right recipe for your discriminating palate. If I could dine there every night I would but then I would have to answer to my wife !! read more

Stopped here on a road trip and were amazed by the food. Tried the classic Gyro and a side of hummus. The hummus was good, but the Gryo was fantastic. Stuffed with crispy fresh lettuce and onion and a generous helping of meat. Not greasy and with just the right amount tzatziki sauce instead of being smothered. read more

Driving south on the Taconic Parkway, I needed to stop for a quick lunch. This place turned out to be a great find. They have a full menu, and looking at the other customers table the portions are good sized. I wanted something smaller and had the Bifteki on a Pita, which was a loose packed burger covered in chopped tomato and onions and tzatziki sauce. Delicious and perfect lunch size, eight dollars plus tax. They said they just opened summer 2016 and I hope they're around a long time. read more

First time there Friday night and the food was pretty good. Large selections and familiar foods such as hamburgers and cheese steaks along with authentic Greek foods. I had the beef souvlaki and it had a nice flavor but it was way over cooked. It should be made to order and cooked to medium. It was very hard to get off the skewer and chew. read more

I visited Athena's in lagrangeville on Thursday Oct 6, 2016. I was meeting two very good friends to catch up on news and generally have a good chat and of course, to include dinner. While I can't fault the food, because it was very tasty, we really felt as if we were rushed from start to finish. From the time we sat down, our waitress stopped by our table at least 4 times while we were getting settled. It was very obvious that we wanted to just chat for 5 or 10 minutes and we also asked her to give us some time. Whether she didn't hear us or she was being told to keep coming back by her boss, we don't know, but we decided to order just to get it over with. When I tell you our appetizers were on the table within 3 mins of ordering, I'm not kidding. Again everything was rushed. Our entrees were also on the table within 10 mins. We hadn't even finished our apps. Our table was crowded with food. It felt like we were in a fast food restaurant. It's a pity because the food is very good. On the layout and design of the restaurant, I feel, as with all the previous owners of this particular restaurant, they have failed to create an inviting atmosphere. We felt we were sitting in the middle of a big room. It was very loud, as there were no soft furnishings to absorb the noise. Some sectioning of the dining area would help to create a feeling of warmth, maybe some booths could break up the hollow feeling. As I said above, the food was good, but very rushed. Not sure I would be making another visit, unless it was for takeout. It certainly isn't a place to catch up with friends. You don't get a chance to finish a sentence because so many of the staff are asking you if you are enjoying your food. Its such a pity. I really hoped this was going to be a new favorite for me.
