The restaurant is nicely decorated and very clean. The service was fantastic, pretty sure the waitress was a mind-reader. We had our food within six or seven minutes of ordering with zero errors on the various special requests myself and the three others in my party had. The food was D.E.L.I.C.I.O.U.S. High quality gyro meat and perfectly crispy fries with their tasty tzatziki. I'd give this place six stars if it was possible. read more

There are quite a few Coney Islands in the city of Novi and this one is the best. Updated decor, quick/friendly service, and good food. I recommend the Steak Skillet or the Gyro Omelet if you're dining in for breakfast. I've been coming here since I was a kid and I'll keep coming back. read more

I am sad to report that yesterday that experience was RUINED by the owner or manager of this restaurant. I assume he's the owner...I don't think a manager would have his job long given this man's unthinkable behavior towards us. We told the server from the moment she approached us that this was a special occasion and we would be there for quite a while and of course would be ordering brunch and her compensation would reflect our appreciation for her patience. After 2 hours she approached us apologetically and said her manager told her that we were to be charged for every coffee refill she provided...we thought it was odd but we didn't have much time left to visit so we agreed and said sure, that's fine. I watched at the server returned to the service area and the manager approached her with a scowl and slammed his hand on the counter while talking to her (obviously about us). A moment later a different server approached us and said "don't be offended, but would you leave so we can turn this table and the waitress can make more in tips". We were flabbergasted but said that we totally intended to compensate our server in an amount that would reflect the time we had been in her section...that we had told her so from the onset and we were now aware that it was the manager that was trying to get us out. Mind you, both girls made their statements to us in front of many of other customers...we were embarrassed, hurt and furious. We took our leave but not before approaching the manager to let him know what he had done was unacceptable. He loudly exclaimed that we had been there 4 hours...we were stunned...he said his waitress told him that and he would find out who was LYING...he called both his staff and his customers LIARS in full view and hearing of other customers. This put a real damper on a cherished tradition....we will go elsewhere in the future. read more

I usually don't write reviews unless I have very strong feelings about a place but this time I really just want to help you guys get better. I got the cheesey fries and rice pilaf today (weird order I know but I'm a picky vegetarian), and almost everything was great, but the fries were suuuuch a let down. The fries alone were probably great, they look like the really good crispy kind, but the cheese was just terrible. Undoubtedly the worst coney I've ever had. For the first time ever, I wasn't able to finish my coney. Ive had average coneys and I will at least finish them. The coney chili was bitter. The loose meat was dry and inedible. It's as if they left a burger on the grill for hours then chopped it up into uneven pieces. First, the meat in a coney is not a chopped up burger. Second, it's shouldn't be burnt and dry. Third, the pieces should be roughly even. We also had French toast which was visibly undercooked and inedible. The saving grace was the bacon which was nicely cooked and a somewhat larger portion than at other places. read more

Don't go alone. This is a smallish place, with small booths, nice decor, and decent food. My complaint is the shoddy treatment I received from the owner, despite the fact that I've eaten there about 2x week, and occasionally at night/weekend with the family. When I showed up for lunch today about 1:15 (I try to avoid the rush) the restaurant was still full, so the owner asked me to wait for a few seconds. No problem. I waited 5 minutes. Then, a small booth cleared and was cleaned. Then, a new couple walked in the door. the owner sailed up and immediately sat the new couple in the booth. When I protested, he flatly said that he didn't sit singles in booths during lunch. Never mind that any table he could have sat me at would have fit two as easily as the booth, nor that the lunch hour was almost over. Greedy. I hope those two people spent a lot more than I would have over the forseeable future. read more

If you haven't been to Detroit you probably don't know what a "Coney Island" is. It is not a franchise or a chain, rather, it is a TYPE of restaurant fairly unique to the Detroit metro area. It's basically what's known as a "Greek Restaurant" other places, except the fare is mixed with always mixed with American staples, especially chili dogs which are, for whatever reason, referred to as "Coney Dogs" even though they're not anything like hot dogs from Coney Island in New York. Anyway, as far as Coneys go, this is probably the best in Novi, although it's a little overpriced which is the only reason it gets only 4 stars. read more

I used to have such a high opinion of Athenian Coney Island. However, from the last few times i've been there, they seem to have gone downhill. It saddens me to note see that their food is not nearly as good as it used to be. I'm not sure what exactly changed, but the chicken has tasted like it's been sitting for a long time, the salad seemed old. I used to love coming here for omelet's because they made them really nicely, but lately they've been deflated, overcooked, with hashbrowns that are both raw and burnt at the same time. I really hope they do something to go back to the way things were before, but until then I don't know i'll be dining here anymore :( read more

This place is excellent. We've come here for years and it never disappoints. The corned beef hash is truly homemade, huge portion with 3 eggs. My husband swears by it and measures all corned beef hash against it - and it always wins. The service is lightning fast, I've never had a poorly cooked egg or less than perfect well-stuffed omelet. John, the owner, has meticulously high standards and it shows. The coneys, fries, salads and daily specials are great and we always leave satisfied that once again we made a good choice. All restaurants should be run like this one. read more

Sorry to say, but I did not enjoy my experience there, and I got a carry out. There was a hunk of phlegm in the bottom of my take out ice tea. I heard the server coughing and coughing but was unable to see him fill my ice and then put the tea in it.. I got back to eat and take a drink and the straw was not letting me sip up the ice tea. I took the straw out and sure enough it was a huge hunk of phlegm caught on the end of the straw. They are not nice people. Have heard the help is extremely mistreated but this was the grossest thing I ever experienced. I would not eat there again and neither will my family. There is nothing that can erase the hideousness of this incident. I was sick for a week from the thought of it. Glad I did not catch hepatitis from it. read more

Nice staff, food came out quickly and the restaurant was very clean and up to date. Price was a little high on some items.

Keep in mind this is a diner/family type restaurant, but the stars are worth it. I had the gyro platter with fries. The lamb was wonderful and the fresh tomatoes/red onions made the package. My only complaint was it only came with 1 pita bread when, with the portions of lamb, 2 were required. The pita bread was soft and fluffy making it a great carrier for the lamb etc. read more

As usual our food was beyond excellent but we were extremely disappointed with our last visit due to our service with our server. We had an older lady with short hair who was VERY rude. I know it's a coney so you can't expect much but she could have given us more than a miserable look, thrown plates on our table, and an even more miserable look when we asked for napkins and different jelly. I grew up serving so I know and understand the job but her horrible attitude was just unacceptable. We definitely won't be coming back for awhile which is a huge bummer since my family loves coming here. read more

One of my favorite coney islands in the area. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is they don't have hummus and garlic spread. Super fast service, lots of servers, and generally clean. They do a ton of business and are really busy on Sunday but the wait is never long. I love the breakfast burrito with gravy, sounds strange but is tasty. Vintage salad is big and has plenty of cherries and walnuts, unlike some others who just sprinkle them on. read more

Enjoyed a nice breakfast here with my 14 year old daughter while waiting for the nearby 12 Oaks Mall to open on a Sunday. She has the French toast, which was really good. I had an omelette, which was also very good. It came with the usual has Browns and selection of toast. The food was served hot and fresh to order. Staff was very friendly and attentive. The decor of this Coney Island is a bit more upscale than your typical diner. Would definitely return when in the area. Breakfast entrees were about $6-$9. Good place to stop and refuel from all the area shopping. read more

I am writing this after my first visit. I came in on a Saturday afternoon, and the place was very busy. I shortly knew why. The service was fast and efficient. Every employee that made eye contact greeted me with a nice smile and a "Hello". I ordered coneys and fries, and I can tell you that the coneys were above average, but, the fries were fantastic! My drink was re-filled before it reached the bottom, and the atmosphere was very pleasant. Seemed more upscale than just a coney joint. I will definitely return. read more

I'm sitting here right now just hesitant on writing this review. I order here all the time for work and usually everything's fine. They never mess up nothing every happens. Well today is my first time sitting here and eating and I can honestly say it was not the best. I ordered the Justin Luca salad with no tomatoes, chopped and tossed with ranch. .. I received the opposite. I got justin Luca salad with tomatoes, Greek dressing and not chopped. I sent it back. She returned it two seconds after tomatoes picked off and all over the lettuce. Still no ranch and not chopped. I didn't complain because I was in a rush. But to me that is just absolutely disgusting. We barely had service. She was never coming to our table. I mean what If I was allergic to to tomatoes. You don't just take them off. No you remake the salad over to how the customer ordered it. Being a waitress for over 4 years I try to not make a big deal out of small things but honestly it's just disgusting. It's a big Nono. I paid $9 for a salad that I basically didn't order. read more
