This will be my go to place for bagels. It's been hard to find any place that does it the way I like it.

I am a bagel lover through and through and though these bagels weren't horrible there was just nothing that was spectacular or special about it. Overall, it was pretty solid establishment. The bagels were good. I think I just expected more from there. I do think this is a quick breakfast area that you can quickly go and pick up or a place where we can sit at if you're staying in Athens for the weekend, especially potentially a long weekend if you were there attending sports events. Again not a horrible place but definitely not the first place. I would go back to for bagel in Athens. Overall, pretty solid just nothing that wow's to me. read more

*Delayed post from April '25 Stopped in on a Sunday morning around 10am and found the place packed! Barely got a seat and the bagels were running out as we ordered. It's obvious this is a hot spot for students to meet and work, and for good reason because the bagel sandwiches we ordered were delicious! We sat ourselves at one of the table tops and ordered from a phone instead of going to the counter. The space was cramped, which is probably why most people ordered to go instead of trying to eat there. It took a while to get our order delivered to our table, but it's understandable given the high demand at the time. Would come back! read more

Went there for breakfast today and it was just off. People working there were very friendly, but I had issues with my order. The everything bagel i ordered came to me as a "plain bagel". When I questioned it, the server told me that it had seeds on it at one point. Clearly not when it got to me. He wasn't rude at all, and I think he actually felt bad serving an everything bagel that did not look like an everything bagel. The bacon I ordered was also cold when it came out. As I was leaving I overheard someone else complaining about their order being wrong. Perhaps just an off day. i'm always willing to give it another try so hopefully the next time will be better. read more

Absolutely delicious! We stopped in here after a run and had a yummy breakfast. Bagels were a good size and flavorful, with that perfect balance of crispy and chewy. The bagels are great but the service is so incredibly slow. Two separate groups walked out without getting their order it was taking so long. Bagels weren't brought out in over 30 minutes while they continued to take orders. There's no reason why putting a bagel together should take more than 5 minutes. Ordered bagels to be delivered to Athens airport for a charter flight down to S. Georgia. Not only did the bagels show up warm and on time, the owner hand delivered them. Turns out he's a commercial aviatior himself and decided to ride with us to S. Georgia and back. Chatting about airplane flying and the food service industry. Waited for a few more minutes. No one took my order or even acknowledged me. Left without being able to place an order. Anyone thinking of going for lunch, don't. Great COVID-19 set up... the door is open- blocked with a table and you order with the staff right there. Staff were wearing masks and there a clearly marked off area for ordering and waiting. I thoroughly enjoyed my toasted plain bagel, cheddar, bacon with egg. My reluctance to go all in with 5 stars is because I ordered the egg scrambled and while it may have started out that way, it was cooked until it was brown and very very very crispy. I will ask for medium cook on the egg and be clear that I don't want it to be crunchy. read more

You can never go wrong with Athens Bagel Company, or as locals call it, "ABC." I got the lox bagel last time and it was phenomenal, loaded with everything good. Most days I just get an everything bagel with cream cheese, which is equally great!! The staff here is also very kind and helpful. I'm all about a good bagel so we stopped by for breakfast. My boyfriend got the bacon egg and cheese on everything and was super pleased. I got the Daddy's Girl which was a toasted bagel with eggs and choice of meat. It was good but the bagel was warm rather than toasted? No browning to indicate it had actually been in the toaster. I chose the honey wheat bagel with snickerdoodle smear. My complaint would be the smear was heavy and thick compared to a light whip. I also got the nitro cold brew coffee that was great. We enjoyed two different style build your own breakfast bagels. Super friendly staff and timely. I'd recommend the jalapeño bagel and cream cheese if you like a little kick. Their sausage was also amazingly fresh. The possibilities are endless from a plain bagel to lox/ bagels. I was pleasantly surprised that their coffee was great tasting. If this was in NY I'd likely give it a 3.5 or 4 but in Athens with only one other competitor it is a strong 5. I cannot recommend this place enough! We came here for brunch and the food was better than I hoped for. Tons of bagels to choose from as well as cream cheese varieties, including some really creative flavors. I opted for a turkey sandwich on a bagel and it was fabulous! Everything was fresh and delicious. Reasonably priced. We got here right before lunch so we missed the line but we did notice that after we were served, the line got really long, so I'd avoid coming at peak hours if possible. read more

Holy cow. Found this little gem of a place looking for a quick bite. Ordered food online, super easy to do via website. It was going to take about 15 minutes till it was ready for pickup. I got there expecting a long line but I must've missed the early crowd. Super great meal. The bagel was on point and full of flavor. In Athens, GA, a magical place where competition between bagel shops is fierce, there aren't many ways to tell the difference between them. All bagels in Athens are delicious, for the most part. So how can a place like Athens Bagel Company stand out? Customer service. This story begins in my sophomore year of college, my first year off the meal plan. You've heard it all before: "I didn't know how to feed myself," "I survived on Saltine crackers and ramen," etc., etc. The thing is, I did know how to feed myself. And I chose well: many mornings, my friend Danielle and I grabbed a bagel (or two or three) from ABC and sat in any one of their many wooden booths discussing class assignments, weekend plans, and our lives. It was over these bagels we bonded, and so three years later, when we both found ourselves at opposite ends of the country (she in Austin, TX and me in Chicago, IL), I decided the best care package I could send her would be a little piece of home: bagels. Here's where ABC comes in. With urgency and aplomb, David Asman (owner of ABC) helped me to coordinate the perfect care package of 21 bagels (he only charged for 15, but shoved an extra 6 in the box, just because) to be shipped to my friend and perfectly timed to arrive on the Saturday of the Alabama game (which we won't talk about). Over a series of emails, David expressed the kind of care and consideration of a friend, a feeling familiar only to those of us who've lived in Athens, GA long enough to experience this sort of treatment from restaurant owners and service workers alike. Athens, GA is special for this very reason: it seems like almost everyone is a friend. I was so struck by David's customer service, and by ABC's willingness to participate in a fun surprise for my friend, but less surprised when the bagels finally arrived in Austin, TX, where Danielle and her coworkers (with whom she kindly shared her bagels) ranted and raved about how incredible they were. All the way in Austin, TX, ABC made its mark. In short, this is the kind of establishment you should take your family, your friends, everyone you love. The cozy wooden booths, the sleepy atmosphere, the delicious bagels and lovely bagel-sandwich concoctions... they make for the perfect Saturday morning brunch or weekday afternoon treat. Pick ABC. Just a cute bagel shop in the heart of downtown Athens. I used to come here in the mornings to grab a breakfast sandwich when I was in a rush to go for class. It's also a nice breakfast place if you're not interested in having brunch. I really love that they have bagel brei (compared to matzo brei) , because who doesn't like to have a bagel coated in cinnamon and sugar ? I was not impressed at all. When I arrived I thought the place was closed due to the dim lighting inside and almost went elsewhere, which I wish I did. This is one of those places that I don't understand the positive reviews. It also is one of those places that you just wonder when and if you will get your food. The woman at the register was taking orders, running food and preparing bagels. She obviously needed additional help, but I don't know if the place was shorthanded that day or if this was normal. I was never greeted regardless and she went about her business with prior orders and never acknowledged me. I placed an order for an egg, Swiss and sausage on a sesame bagel. I was given a cup for coffee. The coffee was ok, a bit weak and could have been warmer. Then I waited a while for my sandwich. After 10 minutes or more I got my sandwich delivered. The bagel was nothing special. I buy better bagels in bulk at BJs wholesale. The egg and cheese sandwich was fair at best. It had to be the smallest egg ever, and was overcooked. The sausage was good and by far the best part of the sandwich. I make these sandwiches at home and mine are far better. Between the wait, lack of greeting and below par sandwich I would not return. read more

I appreciate that they have a pickup station set up at the front of the store due to COVID-19, and that they aren't allowing customers in. It makes me feel a lot safer ordering food and drinks from an establishment that protects its employees at all costs. Honestly, I just moved to Athens in fall '20 and this is the only place in Athens where I've been able to find fresh Cold Brew! And they have both nitro and regular. I appreciate that they don't serve it with ice (but I ask them to add ice anyways ;) ) because you get more bang for your buck. When I'm hungry for a bagel this is my go-to. She was perfect in giving an extra hand in explaining the complexity of what a bagel actually tastes like.
