We came here because it's down the street from the Dime Store and we had a 45 min wait. Apparently they just opened back up and business has been slow. The bartender was very helpful and friendly. We weren't eating and just came in for a drink. The food smelled delicious though. I would come back to try some authentic greek food for sure!

I walked in for lunch today. The food was fast, hot and fresh. The waitress was very friendly and attentive. I had a gyro without sauce and the Greek fries. They were fairly busy but still fast. Great food and great customer service. I recommend the Greek fries if you get fries. So much better than basic. Not to expensive.

    Greek gyro salad with pita

I was in town for a conference at Cobo Center and took a nice, short walk over to Athens Souvlaki. I ordered the lentil soup and gyro Greek salad. I've never had lentil soup with full lentils, usually it's crushed, but it was really good. Some kind of chicken or vegetable broth. They only have bowls of soup, not cups, but it's worth it! The gyro meat on the Greek salad was room temperature, but still really great. I LOVED the Greek dressing, it was a perfect amount of seasoning and tang. The true MVP of the meal was the pita that came with the salad. Typically I don't eat the pita at restaurants, but this was so unique. It was slightly crisp around the edges and was so fluffy. This was place was packed during the week for lunch. It is definitely a fast pace environment so if you're looking for a relaxing lunch I would not eat here. It was great for a quick in and out lunch though.

Best greek salad in Detroit period. Lots of meat, fresh salad fresh olives and all the Greek salad works. Amazing healthy home made dressing too.

Great lunch!! Fresh baked pita and tasty homemade sauce!!

Athens is an easy go-to for lunch. They have my favorite greek salad and pita in detroit.

Service was spot on too, super friendly and attentive without being too much. We went on a Monday evening during the Detroit fireworks, which made it even more fun. Food-wise, the traditional Greek dishes were the highlight. The saganaki was done perfectly, the lamb shank in tomato sauce with rice was rich and comforting, and the gyro was easily one of the best we've had. Prices were very reasonable for the quality and portions. Definitely a spot we'll be coming back to try more dishes.

I lived in Astoria for a couple of years, and could walk to some great Greek restaurants. But I've never had anything like this. First, the dolmas were hard and dry. I've always had them quite wet, basically marinated, and these were bone dry. No ground meat was detectable. The taramousalata was just...flavorless pink fluff. It wasn't even salty! And we were served a basket of bread that was probably the highlight of the meal, in that it was actually pretty good bread -- but it wasn't pita! I've never not been served pita bread with mezze dips. They were out of the grilled octopus, but suggested the cold octopus instead?? I'm not sure why, but at least that was also edible. The retsina I was brought not only had an off chemical taste (and I love a good, piney, resin-y retsina), but it tasted very watered down. My friend said his spanakotiropeta was OK, at least, although he agreed with me on the rest, which is a shame, because I LOVE taramousalata, and I was excited for him to try it.

I want to love this place, but I can only like it. The food is too hit and miss for me to "not be…read moreable to wait" until my next visit. I'll eat here, but not as often as i would if they polished up their menu/execution. The chicken dishes, all of them, are terrible. They advertise "tender chicken cut into slices," but if you look at any of the pics on here, it's all the same - tiny, little chicken bits, dry and overcooked. The more obscure dishes are the way to go. They fail hard on the basics, but hit home runs on their more unheard of menu items. If you've never heard of something, but it sounds good - that's what you should order here. Chicken lemon rice: 3/10 Not enough chicken, lemon tastes artificial and weird, soup is bland. I've had better CLR at most any coney island. Chicken Gyro: 3/10 Chicken was dry, the orzo was dry and overcooked, tziki sauce was thick and lacked flavor. Plenty of chicken... I would have rather had less chicken, cooked better. I haven't seen their chicken kabob, but it seems like this place uses the thick part of their breast for the kabobs, and uses the scraps bits for all of their other dishes. Grape Leaves: 7/10 Good flavor, good sauce... wish the CLR soup tasted as good as the sauce from the grape leaves. Stifado: 9/10 Excellent dish. Good amount of beef, great flavor, nice stew. This is the dish that I would come back for. Bread basket: Bread: 4/10 - they serve the bread ice cold. Olive oil: 9/10 - excellent flavor, super light, nice lemon zest Service: 8.5/10 - good job. They had one guy for all 8 or so tables, but did he did a good job covering them. The busser/assistant did a good job at keeping our waters and bread full, but he tries to carry too much, and it causes a big distraction (glasses clunking, nearly falling over, re-stacking)... sometimes two trips is better than one... He also says "of course" (pet peeve) when someone says "thank you." Perhaps I'm weird, but I find that terribly dismissive, and off-putting.

I've been back a couple times in the past few weeks and they haven't faltered in their quality of food and service. I was greeted with welcoming faces in both of my most recent visits. The chicken lemon rice soup is soothing to the soul, even on an 80 degree day. When I received my online carry out order, it was securely stapled in a bag. The soup was in a vented cup, assuring there would be no spills and the cup was placed in a cute festive bag, good enough to reuse as gift bag. The plasticware and bread was also stored in cute bags.
