My husband had a recent fitting at AlthletiCamps and said it was totally worth it. Totally worth it! Being new to cycling and wanting to get the most out of his new road bike my husband decided to get professionally fitted by Bruce at Athleticamps on the recommendation of his local bike shop. During the initial phone conversation, Bruce was warm and friendly. He took some time to get to know my husband, his bike, and his overall goals, then scheduled his appointment. Bruce did a great job of explaining how the fit process works and what to expect during the appointment. He also directed him to his website, which clearly states his description of services. The appointment itself went great! Bruce made him feel comfortable right away. After some friendly small talk, Bruce got to work setting up my husband's bike on the indoor trainer while he changed in the private bathroom. Then Bruce did an evaluation of his overall body structure, looking at things like how he stands, how he walks, how he balances, etc. My husband mentioned that he is fairly new to biking seriously and that he sometimes experiences numb feet while riding. Bruce explained how this is common due to the build of cycling shoes and offered a solution of custom-made insole inserts. he loved this idea and chose to opt in to include this in the fitting. This was an add-on service and cost an additional $95 (well worth it if you ask him.) My husband got on the bike and was fitted with electrodes on both sides of his body. He reported that seeing the data on the screen was so cool! Bruce did a great job of walking him through what he was looking at and what everything meant. Bruce watched my husband pedal from all angles including showing a video of him pedaling. Bruce checked in continually asking questions about comfort and feel. In no time, Bruce made several adjustments to my husband's bike and cleats that made an enormous impact! How my husband felt on the bike leaving the fitting was completely different than he felt at the beginning. The adjustments made him feel like he had much better control over the bike and better command of the bike. He was far more comfortable with better posture and reported that he even looked different on the bike. The service costs $295 (plus tax) plus the additional $95 for the custom-made inserts (again, worth it.) All in all, this was a 5-star experience! I don't often write reviews, however, I felt a need to write this one. I had replaced my pedals (bad move) a couple of weeks prior to having a 4 day/300 mile fundraising ride. The change of the pedals/cleats resulted in substantial knee pain. I tried to make adjustments but time was running out so I scheduled a bike fitting with Bruce. I have been biking for 30 years and have never had a bike fitting... I never really knew I needed one. Needless to say, Bruce went through his process and adjusted my cleats, adjusted my stem height and validated that my bike fit me correctly. That was in May of last year... I didn't have any pain during those 4 days and over 1000 miles later my knees are still good. So... THANKS Bruce!! read more

Bruce at Athleticamps took me to my best triathlon race season ever! I entrusted Bruce to train me leading up to IMCA 2022, but along the way I had 5 Olympics, 2 70.3's, and ending the season with CIM. I set PR's in all those distances, with a sub 11hr in IMCA in brutal gusting wind conditions. Bruce's guidance gave me the confidence and the solid game plan to succeed and become a competitive age group (45-49) athlete. Bruce was direct in his training method, no sugar coating, which was evident in the first 5mins of the face-to-face coaching interview when he asked me how much I weigh and then telling me I needed to drop 10-15lbs. He was right! The other aspect I was looking for was scheduling flexibility as I travel for a profession and have to utilize hotel facilities like treadmills and stationary bikes. Bruce adjusted accordingly, and despite several days on the road I never had a drop in training or its fitness. Lastly, with Bruce's bike fitting and coaching the cycling game increased dramatically. My swimming game was always good, running was average, but my bike was the weakest and my previous times showed it. Bruce changed all that, as the masses were no longer passing me once I got to the bike loosing that lead from the water. I not only recommend Bruce Hendler as a Bike Fitter but also as comprehensive Cycling Coach with all the tools. Ive been wanting to do Bike Fit for years and my wife was kind enough to gift me this Bike Fit for my Birthday this year. I always felt like I was missing the right setup to maximize my power. Bruce nailed it with cleat position, seat hight and a much better seat to replace my 18 year old seat that came with the bike. Yes I was riding an 18 years old seat! Definitely time for a new one and he had all different sizes and shapes to properly fit what was best for me. Bruce and talked a lot during the fit and he's done 1000's which was impressive since he's got a quick eye to support the 3D capture data he uses for all the body angles during the fit. Bruce also offers comprehensive fitness testing for VO2, lactate, torque analysis in additional to coaching which only makes his services more valuable. After the fit I did a several test rides on a few familiar Strava segments to see how id feel. I had been off the bike for more then 4 weeks and my training was completely off but I still hit PR's with ease feeling like I had an extra gear with my new fit. If your a cyclist then this is the place you need to visit! Bruce is very passionate and knowledgeable and what he does. He'll answer all of your questions and his goal is to make your riding experience even better. I am still on the beginner spectrum of cycling but I can tell you my fitting will improve that experience. I've been on the fence about doing a fitting for the last couple years but I am glad I did. Don't be intimidated on your level of experience Bruce will be there to help you along the way. He also does coaching depending on how far you want to take your skills. Excellent experience! I traveled from 3 hours away to be fitted here and would now gladly have gone twice as far. The process is very thorough and data driven, but at the end of the day still tailored to how you (the athlete) feel and Bruce's experience. I feel like I now have the best bike for ME, and not just what the numbers say. I immediately went on a ride the next day and couldn't believe the change. Not only was I more comfortable on the bike, but felt like I had more control and confidence on tricky terrain (gravel bike fit). Can't recommend enough. read more

Bruce is so awesome! After sinking $2500 into a carbon fiber bike I began to have a lot of neck pain, wrist and foot pain. I went to Folsom Bikes and they referred me to Bruce for "Proper fitting". Who knew? I have been cycling for years and had no idea sizing and fitting were two different things. 2.5 hours later, my bike was completely revamped and with some coaching on my biking stance, I was good to go. Amazing difference! Neck pain gone, feet no longer on fire, wrists no longer numb. And, the power I have now!!! Since my fitting, my climbing is so much better too. Bruce is great! I've been to athleticamps many times over the past few years for fittings, coaching, and lactate testing. The staff here really know their stuff and I won't go anywhere else. I'm from the greater Bay Area so it's a bit of a drive but I definitely don't mind as I know all the services provided are worth a few hours on the road. Bruce runs a top notch facility and works with professional athletes, amateur, juniors, and every day people that love riding bikes. Plus friendly to boot!!! I will continue to see Bruce for years to come. I did see there was a previous review about pricing for equipment. It's my thinking you'd have to pay extra for tax, shipping and having someone install your equipment at a bike shop right? Same goes for here. Also keep in mind that Williams equipment comes straight from the factory at wholesale pricing online. Not much to take off of those prices for a place like athleticamps. OK, I've said it before and I'll say it again: buying a high end bike without getting it fitted to you is like buying an expensive suit and not having it tailored (only more painful). I ignored my own advice after picking up a new bike last year. After developing some aching joints, I attempted to go to my old bike fitter who never returned my calls. Some friends recommended Bruce at Athleticamps. I have to say I was lead out of the dark ages of bike fitting into the 21st century with Bruce. He starts off checking your feet and will fit you with custom insoles for your bike shoes which I heartily recommend. No more plumb bobs and protractors here folks; Bruce uses a state of the art computerized fitting using electronic sensors placed on your body and he measures your bike at every critical point. In my case, he spent probably close to a half hour just adjusting the cleats on my shoes in order to compensate for my flat feet. The remainder of the fitting took another 2 hours in order to tweak each component of my bike. We spent another good half hour trying new Selle SMP saddles which I cannot say enough good things about. I settled on one that is probably the most comfortable bike saddle I have ever used and makes me feel as though I am able to put more power into the pedals. Well, as they say, the proof is in the pudding. After the fit, my first ride was around the hills of Ione, a distance of about 21 miles. I picked up a half mile per hour in average speed over the day before the fitting. On today's ride, I picked up nearly 1 mph in average speed. Overall, my pedaling feels a lot more efficient and climbs are better. My knee quit hurting right away and my ankle feels better. Is a fitting cheap? No, but how much are your body and your bike worth? I now feel as though I am truly squeezing out every watt of energy into the bike that I can in the most efficient manner possible. read more

I can't say I have tried every fitter in the area but I have had some in shop fits that come with bikes and I can definitely say after knowing Bruce for over 10yrs and multiple bikes that he has developed over this time a great deal of knowledge/experience and has some very unique connections that can be very helpful for the following etc: 1.) Bont test shoes from vendor on hand typically(can request more test size in some cases too) or even custom cast carbon shoes if you have troll feet like me :) don't expect them to cheap but doubt you'll find a better custom shoe cheaper somewhere else(you pay for what you get) 2.) If you tend to have joint pain like me and really don't want to wonder if your fit is correct and tear up your joints + maximize performance Bruce is the guy to see 3.) Bruce has like 40 selle smp saddles you can try before you buy and even though you might pay a $30 premium to buy from him its totally worth it because getting the wrong saddle can cost you way more then that considering pricing usually starts at $270+ its an expensive mistake that can be repeated multiple times and I have in the past with other brands like Specialized and Trek :) highly recommend trying a selle smp lite 209 if you haven't there are efficiency and comfort gains to be had over most other still great saddles I have tried from other vendors 4.) Bruce can make you custom insoles as well which have great arch support etc which can benefit most people 5.) tons of good advice on bikes etc etc So in summation Bruce can help you in more ways then I can list and just tends to be a good trust worthy guy that just wants to help people in general and if he doesn't get it perfect the 1st time is still willing to help further(if you give him the chance) as most fitting is an iterative process weather you have a 2k bike or a 15k bike hes a great resource to have and highly recommend. Its also important to be realistic if you push your body hard with any sport no matter if you have a fit or not your probably going to have some discomfort to see gains so nutrition and recovery is a very important thing to look at as well and to find what routine helps you the most. Stretching, pre-fuling/fueling during/refueling with high quality nutrition is a required for most people(good rest too). Hydration before, during, and after is also a big deal. Took me years to realize how dehydrated I was getting and it was killing performance significantly(serve cramps etc). I'm a fan of nuun hydration and skratch products but tons of other good brands out there just try em' and see what works for you. Good luck and have fun! read more

After hearing about the benefits of a professional bike fitting for several years, I finally decided to bite the bullet. I made an appointment with Bruce Hendler at Athleticamps in Folsom. During the fitting Mr. Hendler noticed a crack in my handlebar. He showed me a Williams Elan CCS handlebar, close in size and shape to my current bar and offered to install it after the fitting; price $235.00. Not knowing whether the crack provided an immediate hazard or not, I decided to have my handlebar replaced. I A few days later I checked out the bar's specs at Williams Elan's website. I was surprised to see the Elan's advertised price was $179.00, $56.00 less than at Athleticamps. Manufacturers generally recommend prices that provide a fair profit to their retailers. Mr. Hendler was more than fair to himself, but at the expense of a client who trusted him. I won't be returning to Athleticamps. read more

Went here for a bike fit. They really analyzed me from all over and made some adjustments which I found were helpful.

My husband and I recently and (initially) reluctantly took on the sport of road cycling and quickly found that this was a new hobby that we had both loved and been missing out on for many years. However, about 5 months into it, my husband started to experience excruciating pain in the outside of his left knee, such that he could only make it 9 miles before having to come to a complete stop. He then met with his primary care physician, physical therapist, and a sports medicine doctor who had diagnosed him with an IT band injury. He was instructed to take a high dosage of ibuprofen, stretch, and use hot/cold therapy. Unfortunately though, he was disappointed to learn that all this was not the cure to his pain. So we then thought, maybe we need to make some adjustments to the bike itself, perhaps his positioning was causing the pain. We made several adjustments to the seat, added pedal extenders, changed cleat positioning, but again, to no avail this did not do the trick either. At this point, we began to think perhaps this was a permanent injury and needed to accept the fact that maybe his bike "career" was over. This became such a depressing thought that neither of us could come to terms with, so back to the drawing board we went...maybe a bike fitting would be worth a try. I will say though, both of us were very doubtful that this would somehow miraculously cure his knee. We did some google searching and after reading many reviews, we immediately called Bruce at AthletiCamps. At our appointment, you could instantly tell that Bruce cared and wanted to do everything in his will to get my husband back on his bike. Bruce took his time, took many measurements, made adjustments, and performed these steps several times to get to the ideal riding stance while also improving comfortability. Bruce profoundly stated he thought that the knee pain would not just improve, but that it would actually go away. We left slightly skeptical, but that weekend my husband jumped back on his bike and amazingly finished a 36 mile ride with just slight knee discomfort. And, not only that, but all the aches and pains in his back and arms that we just thought were normal bike riding pains, had completely disappeared. The following weekend we then road 41 miles and the knee pain had nearly disappeared, which makes us believe that soon enough the pain will actually be completely gone for good just as Bruce had proclaimed. The pain that we had once thought would be impossible to cure, has truly been been cured by Bruce. These guys are great! I can't believe the difference Bruce and his team made in my riding ability just by adjusting the bike fit. After getting out of cycling for a few years, my body wasn't as forgiving about the way my bike fit when I started riding again.
