I got the seasonal latte, which was a s'mores latte with half syrup and it was really good! I don't like my coffee too sweet so having half syrup was perfect for me. I really liked the flavor of it but I will say it wasn't really anything special. The vibes of the place are also really nice, it had really nice cozy coffee shop vibes. I can see myself coming here and doing work if I lived closer to it. It was also very quiet so it's a great place to come and read and do work. Though the guy who made my Chai latte took forever, he was the absolute sweetest. He mentioned he was out of practice with making Chai latte and kept apologizing. I wasn't in any rush so I didn't mind :-) This place was so cozy and homey. I wish I hadn't come so late in the day as it is an ideal "all day work from home" spot! I also loved that it wasn't busy and quiet. Spiller Park around the corner is always packed with hardly any seats available and their coffee is overpriced for the quality and taste. I was walking around when I found this amazing place. Basically, they are famous because of coffee roasting. They have many different coffees, fresh and with great quality. The price is different but on average you can buy coffee beans for 14-16 bucks per pound. It's a great place if you just want to order a coffee, sit and read a book! The staff is so friendly and the service is good. I ordered a Cappuccino for $3.75. The price is comparable and the quality was great. On Sundays, they do roasting and the store is closed. I really enjoyed my time there and I'll definitely go there again. read more

This place is simultaneously deeply calming (because of the atmosphere) and invigorating (because of the coffee). I am not sure how they pull off that balance, but they do. And the coffee is delicious. It should be, because the coffee is their obsession. When you walk in, you will feel that you are in someone's living room, or perhaps an old British lady's parlor (if British ladies drank java instead of tea). You'll hear the clink of spoons against china. There may or may not be music playing, but if there is, it will be soft and unobtrusive, perhaps a little light jazz. It is a bit dark and cool, particularly appealing in the heat and brightness of Atlanta. The staff is extremely knowledgeable about coffee. Because they roast it there daily, they know their stuff. You will be treated to a lot of information (very gently and affectionately delivered) about the coffee's source, type, and roast. You may hear about the owner's experience in purchasing the coffee in that country. Pay attention, because what you are experiencing is dedication, which is interesting in and of itself. They will pour you a cup after consulting you about your coffee predilections. If you order an espresso concoction, you will be asked for your choice of dairy / non dairy product. I had a plain drip coffee and it was smooth as silk. I sat at a side table and worked a bit, while people around me wrote, read newspapers, and chatted softly. My 1-star ding is for spotty wifi. Then I bought a pound to take home (how could I not?) and toodled on my way. Any time I am on this side of town, I will definitely stop by here. Often at times, I find it difficult to decide which coffeeshop to spend a few productive hours at - Dancing Goats is often too crowded, Java Monkey too dim, Inman Perk too out of the way... so what better choice than Toco Hill's Atlanta Coffee Roasters! Like many of the previous reviews, one of the best traits about this coffeeshop is how amazingly quiet it is. I can always count on an available table and a peaceful ambience. It's almost as if the customers know how quiet the place should be - I've seen many take their drinks outside to chat in order not to disturb the constant presence of peace. The coffee is not disappointing either. There's an enormous selection of coffee beans from all over the world, which you can purchase by the pound, and their prices are quite reasonable. They even freeze their iced coffee into iced cubes ahead of time and include them in your iced coffee order (so it prevents the drink from becoming watery over time)! As for downsides - there is a hidden bathroom that's all the way in the corner of the back room, which makes it somewhat awkward to make a trip to. As other reviews have mentioned, there is occasionally a screaming baby, but hopefully you won't have to encounter the infant, especially if you plan on spending an afternoon there. read more

It's quiet in here. Too quiet. The soft blues/jazz music is darkly seductive. I cast a shifty eye 'round the room, wondering who else in here is a spy waiting for their next connection at a railway station. Maybe it's the guy in the corner with the briefcase and the trench-coat. He keeps looking at me. I hope "the crow flies at midnight" will work with this fellow. He's drinking some sort of iced coffee drink. Ha! No self-respecting agent would allow himself to be seen with such a thing. Maybe it's the lady outside, earnestly bent over her laptop with a baseball cap pulled low over her eyes. There's no briefcase, and she doesn't even have a drink, but you can tell she's ready to run at the drop of a hat. Lastly, I'm not even worried about the dude studying near the Bodum paraphernalia. He needs all the help he can get--can't even tell the book he's reading is upside down. This place is all about the beverage. You won't find a wide selection of baked goods in any glass cabinetry. (There is a very small selection of muffins & stuff available.) Counter space is almost singularly dedicated to coffee & tea and their kin. It's places like this that make me realize there's way more to coffee or tea than I will ever realize, and I wonder what my "connoisseur" friends have to say about this place. Atlanta Coffee Roasters is comfortable. Intimate. The quiet is occasionally ruffled by the sound of the roaster, or the making of some steamed drink. Atlanta Coffee Roasters has a huge number of bean varieties available for purchase, all of them roasted on site in the store. They purchase green coffee beans from all over the world, create their own blends, and roast in small batches. They usually have three or four of their coffee varieties brewed available for you to try. As far as the store, it's in Atlanta so of course it's in a strip mall. Urban sprawl at its finest...There aren't a ton of seats in the shop, but it's pretty quiet and there is one ridiculously comfy couch. I've had a few business meetings in this place, and I always feel like I should be whispering, the people on their laptops always give me the "Use your inside voice" looks when I talk. One complaint: ummm, how can I say this politely? Celine Freaking Dion on the stereo last time I was there. How can people work with that in the background? Thank God for headphones. read more

I was so excited to go in and visit this location because they have fresh tea. However my experience was less than desirable because the clerk ignored me and provided less than desirable service. There were only 3 customers in the store during the time of my visit. Two of them were seated and had been served. I waited at the cash register for 5 to 7 minutes for the clerk to acknowledge me. When she finally did I secretly wish she never had. She was rude and dismissive. She made me wait at the register until she cleaned every empty table and repositioned every empty chair. They had a nice display of gourmet chocolates and on top of the display they had cute little gold boxes with gold bows what the name of the Chocolate Company on it. I told the clerk I already picked up the piece I want and showed it to her. I was so excited it looks so nice and fresh. That's when the clerk disposition changed and she quickly became a chatterbox. Clerk: "I wouldn't buy that one if I were you. I just put those out. you may want to get one from the back." Me: "well that's good if you just put them out then they're fresh and I'll take that one in front because it has yummy pecans" Clerk: "like I said I just put those out" Me: "oh right what do you recommend" I was thinking maybe the chocolate will melt or too gooey or something to take out of the cabinet. I told the clerk I was taking the chocolate to go. She placed it on a piece of napkin and handed it to me. So then I explained again I'm taking it to go. The clerk said we don't have any bags. Then I said well do you have the gourmet boxes. Because there's boxes on the display counter. The clerk was reluctant and said, "if you want that". Smh she shoved the fragile candy in the box. I had to ask for the matching bow. The clerk treated me as if I was a stealing candy. The candy per piece was just shy of $4. So I was stealing because I paid their ticketed price. But the real crime and theft was their lack of service and bias treatment. I got home and realized there was a white stripe through the chocolate and the chocolate was old. She didn't give me the chocolate I requested and basically convince me to purchase the older chocolate. I would absolutely never patronize this location. I would encourage urban professionals to avoid this location. It's not for us. They cater to a certain type of individual and it's evident in the selective service they provide. $4 for one piece of chocolate and segregated treatment. read more

The coffee is very good and reasonably priced. They have some of the best fresh whole bean coffees in Atlanta, if not the best. If you like single origin coffees, the French Roast Sumatra and the Guatemala Antigua are heavenly. If you're more in to blends, try the Anniversary Roast. There is a large selection of other blends and single origin coffees nicely organized along a counter. The atmosphere is a more mellow, quieter version of other coffee shops, with lower prices than many other coffee shops too. It's a great place for peacefully sipping and thinking or working. read more

The best iced coffee in Atlanta, hands down. The guys running the place know their coffee, source it well, and roast it expertly. The cafe is a little cramped, but generally quiet enough for study. Their refillable on-site mug of hot coffee is still only $2. They're the absolute best place in the city to purchase freshly roasted beans for making coffee at home. They usually have an extensive selection of varieties on hand. My only real complaint is the hours. As a small, locally operated place, they aren't open very early or very late, and they take most holidays off. There are many times I'd like to drop by, but can't due to the schedule. read more

This is the ideal coffee shop to visit if you're looking for some peace and quiet. It's rarely busy - or I haven't seen it busy in my past two visits or while driving by. The seating area is decent sized, it's made up of a few love seats, one sofa, and ten or so tables. When I first walked in, there were two baristas and two customers. It took about a minute or two for the first barista to acknowledge me and take my order. I decided on their special: a Snickers Latte, it came with flavor shots of caramel and hazelnut. The barista seemed taken aback my request and looked up at the specials board confused. She explained that it was a new item and she had yet to make it; she asked barista #2 - we'll call her - to make it for me instead. At this point, "Barista #2" still hadn't acknowledged me at all, and continued not to, she addressed every question regarding my preferences to the other barista. When she finished with my drink, she didn't alert me in any way, I had to ask "Barista #1" - who was actually quite friendly and apologetic, she even asked if their were any adjustments she should make to the latte. Overall, the latte was decent but typical - there was nothing special about it and it was a little overpriced. I really wanted to like this place but it leaves a lot to be desired. read more

Food: I ordered a Mocha and it was very good, matter of fact probably the best one I've had in Atlanta, even better than Starbucks and Chocolate'. Cost: On par with other cafe's. Dining Area: The decor leaves a lot to be desired, dust everywhere, especially on the excessive, unnecessary and badly needing replaced drapery which is all over the ceiling. The place is rather dark and not very roomy. I thought I walked into a morgue or a library when I first walked in because it was so quiet you could hear a mouse fart, but if you're looking for a quiet study environment it's a good thing. Parking: It's in a shopping center, definitely no parking issues here. Service: I asked the youngish guy (late 20's , early 30's?) how long the place had been here and he seemed a little insulted that I had to ask, he was a bit snarky in his response, but he prepared the two mochas we ordered with a decent speed. Summary: Despite the snarky attitude from the barista and the dusty like morgue atmosphere, I will definitely get more coffee from this place, but only to-go because I don't want to be attacked by killer dust bunnies. I guess it's BECAUSE I am a coffee snob that I was not impressed with this shop. It's clear they do tons of flavors and the atmosphere is quaint, but they are not a proper roaster. Maybe because I live on the West Coast, where roasting is now an art in and of itself and where standards for calling oneself a roaster are different. I expected a huge roaster in back with artisans watching the cracks on the beans and taking little handfuls out for a smell check, etc... Adorable place - in fact, 'the' place if you want a comforting, quiet atmosphere - I'm not a fan of the loud-music overpriced 'corporate' coffee and clueless workers at the local Starbucks. The knowledgeable tea-tenders here custom-select 'the' tea blend for you, and are more 'chill' rather than 'frat-boy'. I was feeling under the weather, and a perfect ginger and mint tea was very soothing. A real gift after an early morning at Starbucks where I asked what the ingredients are in an herbal tea - The worker looked at me like I was speaking Greek and replied, "I dunno - it's tea. What else can be in there? Tea." There actually wasn't any 'tea' in that passion fruit-hibiscus mixture. And, the tea here costs 1/3 of what it costs at Starbucks and is triple the size. This location is right off North Druid Hills (next to Kroger). It was not hard to find; however, this is a very "quiet" place to have coffee. Once I walked inside, it was dark but comfy. The baristas were somewhat helpful, despite talking about their own problems which I didn't see how that would be brought up at work in front of a customer. I ordered my typical coffee "white chocolate mocha with soy", was superb! I even got a little art worked into mine, nice touch. There are a lot of coffee beans to choose from here which I thought was pretty neat (including teas). This coffee shop would not be ideal to study in but it can be. The seats are comfortable, I found plenty of plugs for the laptop savvy. But, I felt like I was going to fall asleep while drinking my coffee. It is too quiet to the fact that you can hear the owner sleeping on the couches. I need background noise (i.e. like starbucks or Octane's) to help me stay focused! Also, which I have already mentioned, you can hear the baristas talk about their problems of not wanting to be there. Not really helpful when studying for an exam, nor the irritating background noise that I want. Despite some problems, I love their coffee. I hope they improve their service though. read more

Good coffee, but the environment leaves much to be desired. Used to be better - better employees, good music. The regular employees now are a mixed bag - either seem like they have no idea what's going on or like the coffee shop is their own personal day care. No music playing, just the sounds of the employee's crying baby. Not so conducive to getting work done. I prefer to support local businesses (and tasty coffee), but this place is probably better for just getting coffee to go. Want to sit and talk or work and actually focus? Don't want to hear about employees personal lives or them complaining about other employees? Want some background music? I used to love this place when I was in college -- great place to sip coffee and they sold great beans. I ordered their "bean of the month" subscription by phone (I live in New York now) as a gift. Service was too slow, because they only had one lady in the front, taking orders and making coffee. What made it worse was, she kept talking to the lady in front of me without thinking about other orders that needed to be taken care of. It definitely took more than 10 mins to get some espresso drinks. I got drip coffee, considering the situation. First off, I'm not a drip coffee person. The service ranges from slow to cranky. It is not the place to have your cup or even ask questions about the beans. Know what you want before you go in there. I work in the area and, for a couple months now, have really been wanting to try this place. I had time this morning and decided to stop in. The place was quiet, very quiet, with one barista working and another customer. It took a bit before anyone realized I was there, but once she did, the service was prompt and pleasant. I ordered a latte and liked that she asked for my milk preference as most places don't do this any longer. It didn't take too long to make the coffee, and there was even a bit of latte art on the top. Up until now my experience was pretty decent at this place. Unfortunately, once the coffee actually cooled down and I tried it, that ended. The coffee itself tasted burnt and old and bitter, and I ended up throwing it out after trying to stomach a few gulps. It looks like I'll be sticking to coffee at the General Muir if I have time, or just Starbucks if I don't. read more

AND if you've known about this place and not frequented (if coffee shops are your thing), then I question the validity of your coffee knowledge (see, those snob roots run deep). The girl working with the tattoos was extremely helpful and recommended the ice coffee. They make the iced coffee with a cold brew process AND they use ice cubes made with COFFEE!! Not at all what I was expecting. On the pro side: lots of good make your own coffee supplies (and now I know where to get my Chemex filter refills). The coffee itself was just fine--nothing to write home about, nothing to complain about. On the con side: cranky coffee lady who loudly broadcast "I'm closing this place in 15 minutes because I have more important things to do." And to follow up with that--they close at 5! I wanted to love this place, pretty badly. I love coffee shops and live right nearby. I'm writing this review after 3 identically bad experiences. The coffee is just plain horrible. It tastes burnt, sour, just bad. I enjoy sitting in coffee houses and honestly, the coffee isn't always the most important part. Ambiance is super important this place is quite cute. But the coffee has to at least be drinkable. It's a low standard and this is the first coffee shop I've ever been to that doesn't meet it. Cute tables and decor, nice location. But, you do want at least OK coffee and this place fails to deliver every time. It's not just me, my wife hates the coffee also. Every time we walk by we give it frustrated glances. read more

I was in the Toco Hills area and needed to get a little work done. I rolled past the Starbucks on the corner of North Druid and LaVista because I had located a local coffee shop online, Atlanta Coffee Roasters. The shop is completely empty at 4pm on a Monday, which does not seem that unusual. I opt for a table over the threadbare couches as I need to work. I set up my computer and ask the barista if there is a wifi password. She silently writes on a napkin and hands it to me. It reads, 'buyadrinkf1rst'. I was a little startled by the rudeness of this gesture and kind of laughed. For some reason, I asked the obvious, "Would you prefer that I purchase a drink first?". She quietly states, "It's up to you." Umm.... I respect and appreciate local business owners trying to compete with national brands. It is their right to decline to provide use of their facilities to non-patrons. Had this not occurred, I'm not certain if I would have purchased something or not. Sometimes do, sometimes don't but I always set up my computer first. The coffee certainly smelled delicious. However, the service was strongly unwelcoming. So, I left and am writing this review from the Starbucks down the street. There are about 13 other people in here and my Frappuccino is delicious. read more

I'm a pastor across the street from this place and I find two things to be perfect about this coffee shop: 1. They serve great coffee for less than the local, chain competitors 2. The atmosphere is quiet and welcoming making it easy to work on sermons etc... I can't speak to how meetings do or don't work here, but one can certainly get plenty of individual work/reading done here. read more

This place has always been great for years and years. I personally know the owner and have gotten great info from him on coffee travel and touring overseas. Until loud mouth antisemite A.J. started working here. He bitches about the other employees and uses inconsiderate terminology to talk about the customers. The odd thing now is that sometimes when visiting I come in and the lights are off or very dim, sometime the music is off, other times the CD skips and no one notices or cares. It is inconsistent. I like supporting local businesses, they have excellent coffee or so I hear, I don't drink it - but sometimes it is easier to go to the chains to avoid the employee drama. The workers take a sense of ownership which is great, they just sometimes take it too far and perhaps should be background and neutral, not distracting. read more
