Great service, but difficult to get an appointment and the scheduling is wonky. We were out of town for a few days and when we came back and turned on the furnace noticed a very strong, very bad, electrical smell. Nervous because we have a 5 month old infant, we turned it off immediately and called Atlas. They said they couldn't come out for 2 weeks, which seemed like a long time without heat (in the cold snap), but I called around and couldn't get another appointment. So we waited, hanging out in the one room with a space heater (the baby's room) for ten days. I then called Atlas to see if any more appointments had opened up, and they said they would get back to me. I didn't hear from them so I assumed nothing was available until our scheduled appointment. On the day of the appointment, I waited until 30 minutes before the close of our window, and when no one came I called Atlas to make sure they hadn't forgotten about us. Apparently, someone had cancelled our appointment when I had called to see if we could get an earlier one! But they were able to send someone right away (which makes me wonder why they couldn't have sent someone 2 weeks earlier), and the very friendly tech was able to replace the capicitor in no time. He was great, and it didn't cost us a fortune as I had feared. We will use them again. read more

After reading all the positive reviews - how can I go wrong I thought. Our Carrier air conditioner had stopped blowing cold air. First visit was from Harry Clark - they wanted to change out everything with all new AC/Heater etc.. The AC is 8 years old and we were getting ready to move so I thought that was excessive. I called Atlas - they all seemed real smart and great. I liked them. They diagnose the problem -The man said let me change a part and see if that works and if that doesn't work, there are two more parts we'll order and that may fix it. Part 1 doesn't work. parts were ordered, next week two more parts arrive and the second visit happens. The ac starts to function but he tells me it may not hold if it gets hot (Im out $300-400 so far). If it doesn't hold they will change the TCX I think it is called which is like $1600 as I recall. Sure enough, it breaks down again. Someone else comes out on appt 3 and remeasures or rediagnoses or something and they go off and order the TCX. Another long 4th appointment to install and it all works. Yeah. Atlas is my hero... Painful but it worked and its fixed for $2000. Two weeks later it breaks - same problem...5th appointment new guy, measuring electrical stuff like crazy - and he tells me I should just replace the AC as it is acting crazy. They will make it right and cut me a good deal on a new unit since Im in for $2000 already... 6th appointment they rushed out to measure for the size of unit to sell me a new AC (Sure they are all good at that). Im told I need a 4T unit and they will get a quote on Monday... Its a heat wave in Orinda ! My kids are mad that this has been going on for so long... Monday to Wed no word...Finally get a call Wednesday after a prod via email with a price and that I am not covered under any warranty... I ask if this is the make good price since I am in for so much... I am told that he will go away and go back to Atlas management and get a make good price and send me a quote right away (these technicians have gmail email addresses so I am wondering if they are all contractors and that is part of the problem)... Im just ready to buy and get it fixed... Its Friday now - another week has passed and I have no quote, and no one seems to respond to me or care... I wrote the technician another email wed night after he was supposed to send me a quote right away... I wrote the president Thursday night an email. I have sent him a text message now too. They have just gone MIA!! No response.. And I have two kids showing up who live with me half time for labor day who don't want to come to my house now because they get bug bites from open windows. Thanks a lot Atlas..... a couple of months of work, 7 visits and no working air conditioning.... Cannot recommend at this point.. The make good revision. As of 9/10 I now have working AC. After calling the president, I got a response form a very apologetics head of service Lisa. She took care of the situation and had their guy come out to remeasure and size on labor day and got me onto the install schedule Thursday 9/10 a week after I wrote this. It works just great. They did offer me a very, very good price too as promised as a make good. It all ends happily. From the way I was treated, I am sure that if things go bad like they did for me, that Atlas will in the end get it all taken care of. So Im raising my review. read more

Keith James, the estimator gave us (a non-profit) a very good price and got the work scheduled in a short time in both cases. This was much appreciated in the apartment where the family had two young children and no heat! I want to comment in particular on Gabe Thomas, the technician who installed a furnace for us today. He arrived on time, did the job in half the estimated time and was very skilled and knowledgeable. He was also a very pleasant person. I give 5 stars to Atlas ! read more

Have an old floor furnace and Atlas (Ian) came out to evaluate and repair the fact that it was always shutting off. He adjusted the sensor flame, cleaned the sensor unit, and found the heater was in good working order. Which gave me peace of mind. He even had a replacement cap for the heater in his truck (junked from a non-working heater) that fit just right! Thanks for the excellent customer service. read more

I sent Atlas a message through Yelp and got a quick response. I got a phone call on a Saturday morning of a 3 day holiday weekend. They had someone who could come out and give me a quote, but instead of wasting my time, they bowed out because I needed someone quick and because they are so good (and it's summer heat), they are not able to take me for a month. Even though they were not getting my service or my money, they spent over 20 minutes talking to me about the quotes I got, what a reasonable quote would/should be, things to watch out for, things to look for, questions to ask when getting a quote, etc. I wish I had a month to wait because if I did I would definitely use Atlas! I couldn't be happier with the service I obtained from Atlas heating and Air Conditioning company!! They replaced an inefficient air conditioning unit and during the testing of the unit, it was discovered that duct work in the crawl space under the house had been damaged and needed to be repaired and in some instances replaced. This additional work was scheduled and the workman showed up on time and did an outstanding job, working in an uncomfortable environment. He even stayed until 6 PM in order to complete the job that day!! Atlas also installed a heating unit for us several years ago and we were also highly pleased with their work on that occasion. Below is a snippet of a letter I wrote to Atlas. One thing I didn't mention in the letter is that when the installer couldn't make it on the original date, they called and rescheduled and no problem. Another is that even thought the original estimate had expired by the time I called, they still honored it. Finally, I had gotten 3 estimates, and theirs beat the stuffing out of the others -- yet the work was first rate. Now the snippet: "A little over a month ago you replaced my aging gas heater in a York high-efficiency unit at the address above. This is the third home I've owned, and so I have dealt with many contractors of all types over the years. None have ever exceeded the level of service and value that you provided, and precious few have come close. All of the Atlas personnel I cam in contact with, including Fletcher Tyler, Vivian Guiton, and Aaron Bright, were professional, courteous, and helpful. Mr. Bright, the installer, did clean, solid work that easily passed city inspection." read more

Atlas installed the furnace in my home 25 years ago. So when it started making a weird noise, i didnt think twice about calling them. Chris Martini came out the next business day, inspected it, explained clearly exactly what was wrong and how it likely had happened., and what options I had. I decided on a new system. A week later, Will and Jose arrived and did a great job wit the installation. They courteous, efficient, and gave good followup explanations and instructions. Thank you guys! This was one of the most pleasant repair experiences i have ever had. the service tech, Eric, was right on time, friendly, polite, and very competent. He got to work after asking me a few questions, and quickly found the problem -- a $50 part. He could have sold me a much more expensive repair, but was honest and straightforward. His work, including an optional tune-up/safety check that i opted for, took about an hour, including the post-repair test. Eric left no mess, answered all my questions, and tightened up a few loose screws that weren't part of the repair, all while patiently answering my questions about our furnace. Every part of this transaction was pleasant and professional -- from my first phone call (actually answered by a pleasant human being), through Eric's final goodbye. HIGHLY Recommended! Atlas did a great job and I will certainly use them again. BTW: THREE other shops didn't even bother to call me back -- all highly rated on YELP. Our furnace began only providing heat intermittently and then not at all just as the Bay Area temperatures turned much cooler. We had a different company come out to do a service but even after two visits it was not working correctly. Scheduled an appointment with Atlas and they sent over Aaron Bright. He was personable, knowledgeable and had our heat up and running within a couple of hours after replacing a part. I had 5 different contractors look at our heating needs in our drafty old victorian with a furnace from the early 80's. Atlas was the ONLY one who actually did a thorough investigation of my entire house, the heating losses due to drafts, windows and uninsulated walls and then made a sketch of exactly what they would do and calculated the exact size furnace I needed. OMG, this is one of the best and most professional places I have dealt with in years. I was scheduled for an 8-8:30 arrival time and ERICK arrived at 7:55. He was professional and articulate about what needs to be done to get my furnaces working. It was right in the middle of below freezing temperatures in the Bay Area, so needless to say, it was very cold in the house. Of course my furnaces are original to the house, so they are about 63 years old and in need of updating and repair. He recommended I get them replaced, but I opted for a repair job (much cheaper than replacing them). ERICK got the one working furnace up and running and I was able to enjoy heat immediately. Yaay!!! Atlas just came by to diagnose the ridiculously loud sound my heater has been making. The technician that came was on time, friendly, and clearly very knowledgeable. He diagnosed the problem and got me a quote before leaving (someone will come back to fix it after the part arrives). I was very impressed. After he left, I did an internet search to see if I was being quoted a fair price, and it seems within the range for the repair I need. I would highly recommend. Update: the technician came back today to do the repair. He got the new part installed, everything is working great now, and the job cost what was quoted. While he was at it, he fixed the master switch to my furnace (which apparently had been wired wrong) and also fixed the door to my fuse panel. Above and beyond! read more

The 60 year old heater in my Dad's house didn't work anymore, so once again I called on Atlas for help. Keith came out and after a thorough inspection of the existing furnace, helped me select a new unit to replace the old one. Joe arrived early, and was eager to scope out the job and figure what needed to be done. Joe worked the entire day, I am not sure if he ever stopped to rest, and every now and then would explain to me what he was doing. For example, he had to have a stand built for the new unit, and he took a minute to explained the differences between the old furnace and the new unit. I felt like I was learning something, and really appreciated his patience with me. The second day, Joe again arrived early and worked by himself all day. When he was finished with the installation, he checked to make sure I understood how things worked. We had a problem with the thermostat, and Joe patiently tried time and time again to make it work. He said someone would get back to me to resolve the problem. True to his word, Atlas called and made an appointment and send someone out to fix the problem! I am so happy I found Atlas to relieve me of my heating worries! We just had central heating installed by Atlas in our small (1000 sq.ft.) Richmond home, after what was for us a very cold winter. My husband and I are retired and have lived here for over 10 years with just a wall heater....but as we age we realize that we really don't want to spend all winter dressed like sherpas in our own home. To start, Allison, who took my call and set up the appointment, was charming, efficient and a complete pleasure to deal with. On the day of the appointment, the technician, Ian, showed up within the four-hour window I was given, and it took him 15 minutes to troubleshoot and identify the cause of the failure. It took a week for the culpable part to arrive, and Ian was back, again within the time window, and had the part installed and the furnace running in another 20 minutes. I recently had a furnace and duct work installed by the Atlas team. They are top notch! I received great advice about what my needs were. My job was big. I needed ducts reconfigured and reinstalled as the previous installation was inefficient. In addition I was advised that my existing furnace needed to be upgraded in order to have a safe installation in my very limited crawl space. While the price tag was high, (not because Atlas price was over priced. I got several other bids for the same work and Atlas' bid was the most competitive. Furnace installation is just costly, no matter which way you slice it) I felt that I was given honest, professional advice. As a homeowner working with people you can trust is so important, as most of these home improvement projects are a huge financial investment! Yikes! I was tempted to try another Heating and Air Conditioning Company that is local, but after my last Service with Atlas, I was very impressed with the Service Technician, Ian (he's serviced my home before). He is so customer-focused, friendly, and represents the Company well. He is also very knowledgeable, found the issue, and explained what needs to be done. He showed me the defective part and got my very old Air Conditioning Unit working within minutes. Overall, I have been more than satisfied with Atlas Heating and Air Conditioning. With our AC out on a very hot Sunday I called Atlas. They had an experienced tech, Chris, on site in about one hour. He diagnosed and fixed the problem (a bad capacitor) and was gone within an hour. We are cool again. Atlas installed our heating/AC over 10 years ago and I was impressed with them at the time. They had experienced workers with everything they needed in the truck (including sheet metal fabrication), were not fazed by glitches, worked efficiently and made things look easy. It seems Atlas has not changed. I do not know how their rates compare with others but if they happen to be higher that is fine - they are worth it. It seems the more modern HVAC equipment needs more maintenance than the old stuff. (We found the same thing with smarter kitchen appliances.) So I am going to call them for a regular tune-up maintenance on our units. Definitely recommended. read more
