Aven, thank you for the amazing work you did and how pretty you make me feel. I love the hair color Aven picked for me. To achieve the result, my hair was double processed and my scalp didn't suffer any burning pain. All products from shampoo to hair conditioner are all Olaplex, which left my hair feeling strong, healthy, and soft. The salon is small and tidy and Aven and Cici (her assistant) both wore face masks. I feel safe coming here during the pandemic and would recommend anyone who wants a hair transformation reach out to Aven. She speaks both English and Mandarin.

It's really a great experience to first time bleach and dye my hair here. I love the creative design only partially bleached and dye the bottom of my hair with the bright purple color but maintained a healthy dark shine of the rest. It's a cool design and I love it very much!

Haven't written a review in years but I needed to for this place! I came here in March, and now that my roots have grown back, there is no doubt in my mind that ATO is the place to go to!(once it's safe again) To preface, I have very thick Asian hair and a loooot of it. So my hair can be time consuming and hard to bleach (and I avoid going to hair places because I don't want to put people through that). But I felt comfortable and trusted my hair dresser since she was an Asian woman with bleached hair as well (so she would especially understand the struggle) When I came into the salon, I had unevenly bleached, super damaged blonde hair with a pink stain on one side and a blue stain on the other (I included a pic) When I left the salon, my hair was the most even shit I'd ever seen!! I was there for around 6 hours and it was well worth it (especially if you bring the book you've been wanting to read). I highly recommend checking this place out!

The other salon I was speaking to told me he would do a triple process to get the color I want. From my research, triple process will absolutely fry my hair because it is permed so I went with this salon because her response seemed to take consideration of my hair condition. I ended up getting streaks of silver highlights instead because of how damaged my ends are. The owner bleached my hair with my concerns in mind. For example, the ends were bleached once because the bleach was working already and the roots were bleached twice. I think I spent 2 hrs bleaching my hair. Also got a trim because the ends were dried. I showed the owner i want my haircut to look like the side bangs because i thought the bleach would damage my hair to the point it would straighten the permed part but my bangs are still curly.

I had the BEST experience ATO. A friend of mine recommended a place to me since I was complaining that I had never had a great experience getting my hair cut. First you start with an AMAZING wash accompanied with a long and delicate head massage. Everything and everyone in this salon is thoughtful. Aven, my stylist, listened to exactly what described as my perfect haircut and she delivered and exceeded expectations. This place gets 5stars+!!!!!

It's a honor to try ATO's hair spa treatment , Especially they recently introduce a ultrasound machine from japan. The machine look like a flat iron but it can make your hair so soft and moisturize. Absolutely will come back for spa treatment.

I came to get my hair color and cut done by Aven. The appointment process was super easy to book. I have a very busy work schedule and Aven made herself available on a very short notice and a busy day for her too. I have very dry, thin, and damaged hair. Not the type that's easy to color at all. Aven did an amazing job giving me gorgeous highlights and color that's both chic and elegant. Somehow she made my hair look healthy and shiny as well even after all the color treatments. She did a wonderful job and I'll definitely come back again and again in the future. Thank you, Aven! read more

Salon of great service in Soho with a very cozy and fashionable aura. Aven is my stylist. She has good eyes in capturing the color and texture of your hair, all together with your unique charisma. She is very talented in beauty design. She can quickly understand what you want and give advice of her perspective at the same time. I'v been to her many years. She did root perm and keratin treatment for this summer. It gives the hair a lift in the root and a smooth texture. read more

It's really a great experience to first time bleach and dye my hair here. I love the creative design only partially bleached and dye the bottom of my hair with the bright purple color but maintained a healthy dark shine of the rest. It's a cool design and I love it very much! read more

Aven is a very talented colorist, as I stated in my last review. However, I'm dropping many stars for their very shady business practices. I've been here 5-6 times since my first time for the occasional toner treatment and haircuts. Each time, they charge me something very different from the quoted price over the phone. Understandably, there may be some variations in pricing since they can't always predict the amount they would have to charge me until they see me. However, they've definitely gone much higher outside of the quoted range over the phone. Last time was the final straw - she tried to convince me to get a haircut, but all I wanted was a bang trim. I was still charged the full $50 (which is the price of a haircut). Might as well have gotten the haircut. Refer to my original review: the girl at the desk overcharged me and it took quite some time and arguing to clarify the whole mess. There are plenty of talented stylists in NYC that won't rip you off. Hair can be expensive and I'm definitely willing to pay, but not to those that mischarge me and refuse to rectify it. read more

I have this place recommended by my friend. And the experience turns out really great! My hairstylist Aven and I started off a detailed consultation. She is patient and understandable, listened to what I want (which some other hairdressers may ignore). Based on that, she provided her suggestions on how to style my hair. Aven cut my hair subtle, but the layers all flowed together. I also like the dark caramel color that she picked for me. Besides, the head massage was so relaxing. I like each of them did the work so seriously and never let you feel rush. Will definitely recommend this place to my friends! Btw, thanks for the coconut crackers. That's so yum :) read more

I've been coming to ATO since 2018/2019 and now I can't live without Aven. She is not just a hair stylist, but your girlfriend who is honest with you if this hairstyle works for you, and looks out for you when your hair is not at its best condition. It all starts with a close friend's recommendation after an overpriced haircut + hair bleached +dyed blond, I was desperately need a new hairstylist to save my hair, and Aven came to the rescue. My hair never looks this good ever since. I now come to her salon at least twice a year to do my hair and honestly every time I feel like Aven does a magical makeover for me. I feel like a new person every time! This is the newest look she did for me! (on the day and two weeks after) No matter what hairstyle and the hair color she does for me, it always comes out the way I want it, and it STAYS that way for a long period of time. Came here because I done fucked up my hair! It really didn't look all that bad but it was pretty terrible, like for example how a pancake can look appealing but it's actually still too doughy in the middle and that's how my hair was. It was a textural mess!!! I gave up dating guys recently and I took on home self improvement "projects" like dying my hair clown nose red and home perming with whatever (wrong type) hair rollers I had on hand. Then there were the bangs which I just decided on a whim to cut. This I found pretty ez when using a pizza box to catch all of the fallen hairs(thx Margherita's). Yet Mcguyvering my looks in every area probly wasnt a good idea but I didn't care until.... NOW. I totally care and I want to look good again so I looked up some salons on everyone's favorite search aide and found Aven: cutter and colorist at Ato! She made my hair look beautiful when I was in total denial b4. I thought I didn't need help but I definitely needed help. Im really into this salon because it's accessible, affordable and it was very ez to book my appt for the following day. I may come back for their digi perm services but since I home permed not too long ago they advised me to wait half a year. But back to the haircut... So today when I woke up, I didn't completely hate my hair and it didn't look like a messy cousin it, a lil mulletish but I hand smoothed it and it was fine so I was relieved!! It's lookin pretty effin good actually and haircuts sometimes don't look all that good till a week or so later. Both the owners worked on my hair and were extremely warm and accommodating! They kept making sure i was comfortable the entire process. I'm not one to write reviews, good nor bad. However, after searching for so many years for a good colorist, and finally finding someone who gets what I've asked for, and exceeded my expectations, I just had to write one just for this salon. Aven is amazing, and listens. Im not one to easily please, I have extremely high expectations,but she is beyond talented. Finding someone that understands, and knows how to color Asian hair, and make it just the right blonde tone, is extremely rare. The first time I went, I had ruined my own color, and she fixed it as best as she could. I wasn't in love, but know she fixed it as best as she could for what damage I had done. This second time, after she had fixed it the first time, was astounding. I absolutely love it, and recommend her to everyone. Love her confidence and knowledge, and her work matches her words. Scheduled an appointment with Aven on a Sat at 1 pm. for simple hair coloring Overall, I am very happy with the service and they know exactly what I am looking for and more... My hair came out healthier after the coloring and the process is efficient, in and out of the salon under 2 hours. My review is long overdue... Especially since this salon is so precious to me! I've had my hair done by Aven and Sam... Both are excellent!!! Even though Aven is my go to stylist, Sam did an amazing job with my ashy brown gray hair color. The first time I came here I loved my hair cut from Aven! And this is rare because my hair is... Well really kinky and wacky. I have a lot of hair but thin strands and it's kinda straight with a weird single wave. Usually it takes a while for the stylist to get to know my hair to cut it exactly to my liking but she did it in the first go. Another highlight of this salon is your hair wash. It's not a quick shampoo and conditioning but they really put some elbow grease into it and massage your scalp for a good 10 mins. It feels so amazing! Now onto hair color, I'm so picky with my hair color and especially was so, right before my wedding. There was a specific color I had in mind and Aven worked with me to get me there. As an asian girl with dark hair wanting to achieve that light ashy brown color, it's never an easy task to accomplish. I got my roots colored and when I got home, I decided it was a bit too orange still for my wedding photos. When I went back, Aven was very accommodating and colored my hair again. The color was nice (the first color was nice too) and were it any other day, I would have kept the color. But being my wedding day was right around the corner I just wanted it perfect. I went back in for the third time and Aven once again accommodated me and she nailed it. It was perfect. I got so many compliments on my hair at my wedding rehearsal. Everyone loved the color so much! And on my wedding day, all of the make up artists and hair stylists were commenting on my hair color. Needless to say, I was thrilled by the compliments! Great salon with experienced hairstylists who are meticulous and pays attention to detail. My hairstylist is Aven and she is great because she is super quick to understand exactly what you want and also knows how to do different cutting techniques to get you the result you want. I have gotten my hair done at ATO three times now and I am always satisfied with the result. I always ask for Aven because I think that she is very knowledgable about hair (especially asian). This time, I got my hair cut into a very short bob and am amazed at how flawless my hair is all the time! I never get bedhead and my hair always looks perfect air dried, which I am so thankful for because previous short hair experiences always left me with unmanageable hair. On top of it all, Aven always gives you tips for how to maintain your hair at home, which is always a plus! read more

I told them multiple times I had a head injury from a concussion and the lack of care was very concerning how abrasively they washed and handled my head. My most recent appointment was a complete failure. I asked for a warm, golden brown and came prepared with multiple reference photos. While the color was processing, I clearly flagged that it was pulling purple. That concern was dismissed, and the product was left on longer. The result was the darkest my hair has ever been, almost black with a cool, purple hue. The exact opposite of what I requested. The color job is all mismatched, the lower part of my hair significantly darker, the roots are sloppy and uneven. When I pointed this out, the response was defensive and dismissive. At one point, I was sarcastically asked if I wanted to "bleach it," which is an inappropriate and careless suggestion for already fine hair. It was mind blowing to have this handled so poorly and then be rushed through a cut that does not look anywhere close to the quality of the past cuts. I followed up requesting a refund, given that this will take months to correct and fade, and received no response for over 48 hours. It's not even about the money - it's about the severe lack of respect. What's most surprising is that this level of defensiveness and lack of accountability was unacceptable, especially after such a grave mistake. Instead of thoughtful adjustment and ownership, the response was dismissive in the moment and silent afterward. Mistakes happen. How they're handled is what defines a business. This was not handled well. NYC has no shortage of salons that can deliver both technical skill and professionalism. This is not one of them. It was 6 months since my last. That must have just not been the right thing to say bc I was judged, insulted during the entire session and I got the worst haircut of my life. I can't even get it fixed because it is so much shorter than I wanted. There are huge "texture" discrepancies all over my hair, the most obvious being in the back near my neck. There's also a strand of hair far longer than the entire length of my bob cut. I don't even understand how this happened. I'm so traumatized. I would never recommend this place and will never ever come back. I really had 1 chance to get a cut as a treat to myself, since I really don't have extra time to spare. And now I have to live with this until it grows out, definitely more than 6 more months. If I could give -1000 stars, I would. Please do yourself a favor and find a salon that can do a nice cut for long AND SHORT hair. WITHOUT A PERM TO MAKE IT ALL STRAIGHT FIRST. The skill level here is just so sub par. This is probably one of the worst haircut I have gotten in years compared to other places that are in different price ranges. Leaving the salon it looked good styled but when I went home to wash it and had more time to look without it curled I saw really choppy layers and the length is much shorter than i wanted. For a cut I paid $107-110 not including tips and expected a decent cut for that amount. Truly disappointing as holidays are coming up and I have been wearing a hat to cover up, cannot wait for this to grow out but will take months. Ara was really sweet and nice but I don't think the skills were there.

The private soak was nice but I really enjoyed the sauna. It was definitely a great experience. Came out feeling revitalized. My boyfriend really enjoyed the massage and the amenities.

This review is for Sam and I got a men's haircut. This was my second time going to ATO. The first time was okay, good not great (good enough for a repeat visit). A month later I called asking if Sam was free and made a same day appointment. I showed up right on time a few hours later and everything was okay for the first 10 minutes. I got my hair washed and Sam was starting my haircut. 5 minutes into the actual cutting, another customer walks in asking for Ken. The receptionist informs her that Ken was not going to be in the salon today and apparently he decided not to inform his clients for some reason. Sam asks her what she was looking to do with her hair and then just stops cutting my hair right in the middle of it and goes off to assist this new person for 5-10 minutes while I'm sitting there. Then the haircut resumes. I am a bit annoyed but I don't really blame Sam since it's not his fault his coworkers are inconsiderate. A few more minutes into my haircut the guy who has been sitting next to me starts complaining and asks when he is getting his haircut. I assume he was there a couple minutes before me but I was given priority since I made an appointment (which is the right thing to do, since that is what appointments are for). Sam responds "okay just give me 5 minutes" to the guy and at this point I start to get upset since my 50+ dollar haircut had barely just begun. Sam rushes through my haircut and literally just starts randomly cutting inches off the middle and inside parts of my hair. I don't understand why he would accept a client minutes before an appointment is scheduled, and it's not like I would not show up because my name is already in their system due to being a previous customer. He gets ready to take my robe off and I tell him the sides of my head are uneven and hairs are sticking out. He proceeds to "fix" it and makes it seem like he did more than it seemed like by cutting off more hair at random places of my head. After he "fixes" my sides, they are more uneven than before. At this point it's unfixable. I am a guy and I have medium to short hair, once you cut off too much hair (and in the wrong places), there's nothing you can do to salvage a haircut short of completely buzzing it except wait for hair to grow back - so I just count it as a loss and go to pay. I give a more than generous 20% tip and leave. When I get home I realize that the sides are completely messed up, hairs are randomly (and noticeably) sticking out and hair is cut in places that should NOT be cut. My right side burn is almost literally an inch lower than my right side burn and the left side of my hair where it parts is completely thinned out. I can't believe I paid 50 dollars and tip (plus tip to the hair washer) for this mediocre haircut that lasted maybe 30 minutes. All he did was trim the sides and back unevenly and randomly cut strands of hair off my head. I could have gotten a much better quality cut for 10 dollars in Chinatown. Needless to say, I will not be going back. read more

I never ever ever venture into new hair salons. Im so terrified of a bad cut or color that unless i've been recommended a place, i dont get my hair done there. My friend who is adventurous talked me into picking a salon while strolling through Soho one Saturday afternoon. I've whipped out Yelp which suggested A-to among other places. Seeing as A-to was the only one reasonably priced we decided to check it out. Aven was my stylist and Ken was my friend's. Im IN LOVE with this place. Aven did a really great job both on the cut and color. She was patient and gave me a thorough consultation before starting. I came to ATO first for a blow-out, which was relatively inexpensive for the neighborhood. The salon is small but clean and nice. The shampoo was great, with a head massage. Lisa did a great job blowing my hair. Fast and perfect. She was very experienced, has done hair for about 20 years. She convinced me to consider a keratin smoothing treatment for my frizz. I was a little nervous, as everyone in the salon had beautiful straight Asian hair, and I have long curly frizzy hair, but Lisa put me at ease. My second visit was for my keratin treatment. It was an overall very good experience. The staff was all very nice. Lisa did an incredible job-- and gave me a perfect hair cut and blow out as well. I highly recommend ATO, especially Lisa. VANNESS is amazing! He clearly understand what I want since my hair is dry and bleached many times before, he know how to fix it! I made an appointment with him base on my friend's recommendation so I gave him a try. Usually, as my experience from other hair salon before, they never do exactly what I want but Vanness did! I told him I want to get pinkish ombre then he suggested me to do brown on top and pink at the bottom. I trust him because he's professional, after the color I also did a oil treatment to repair the damage of my hair! I will definitely come back for him! Made a last minute booking at ATO earlier this week and had the pleasure of having Ken as my hairdresser. Ken is amazing and so much fun to chat to, but the conversation never distracts from his attention to cutting hair. I haven't been to a hair salon in over a year and my hair was in quite a state of split ends and frizz. Ken really came to my rescue and sorted me out with a style that is low maintenance but still looks and feels great. A-to Salon has by far the most talented and exceptional stylists. The ambiance in the salon is hard to beat and the kindness from the stylists is unmatchable. I went in with all sorts of blonde and brown colorings in my hair wanting an ombré balayage. A little weary of the results, seeing as my request was difficult, I came out of the salon feeling and looking like a celebrity! The stylists are very detailed oriented and care about each customer. I got a haircut yesterday at the salon and it was wonderful!!! My stylist Sam was absolutely amazing and wonderful. As a design student, I often don't have time to sleep, so an easy to take care hairstyle is a must for me. Sam gave me the perfect short hair! He is so patient and he offers suggestion and advice for the style of the cut. Above all, he tells you what he is going to do with your hair instead of just cutting it, which is something I really appreciate! Definitely coming back! read more

I've been going to Vanness for 1 and half years now and I'm super pleased with my cuts every time. He really takes the time to talk to you so he understands what you're looking for. I got my hair dye and cut from Vanness and it come out amazing as always!!! I've also been getting lots of compliments on my hair color and style , guess what? I always recommend him to my friends. Aven is the best hairstylist I've ever had in NYC! The price is cheaper then most of the place but their skill is beyond professional. Everyone here is super friendly, we chat like old friends and never have any issues with them. Aven is an experienced professional, she can tell what my problem is by looking at my scalp and then give me suggestions base on my problem. I absolutely love my hair color. Aven was extremely helpful, professional and communicative. She was able to fully deliver the color I chose and match perfectly. After coloring she hand me to Sam, which is another smooth and professional experience. Sam is best at haircut, his technique is impeccable. Very swift! My haircut never looked better. The other day i was having a bad hair day and I spotted this salon and decided to give it a try. And to my surprise I got a pretty good blowout by the stylist Sherly. Despite the price being a bit pricey I still think the experience was well worth it. I went back to work and got many compliments from my co workers. I have very damaged hair and hard to maintain .But when I came into ATO Hair Salon .I was impressed by their service .They were not like most Salons where they keep pushing you do the oil and color treatment.
