Atoma does justice to this iconic former Maria Hines (Tilth) location! The space is just as warm and inviting as it had always been, but the real star of the show is the food! The menu consists of four quadrants with snacks, starters, mains, and sides that have interesting combinations and fresh flavors. The chef who used to work at Canlis grew up vegetarian, so there are many good choices for vegetable lovers. We had the kale salad with Mimolette "cheez-its" which was my favorite dish of the night! Those cheese bites were so amazing! Our other savory dishes were the black cod (stellar with crispy skin!), duck thigh (yum!), and roasted cabbage (with anchovy sauce?). That was the perfect amount of food for two, but we had to try the baked Alaska dessert. It did not disappoint with the parsnip ice cream, carrot cake base, and carrot chips on top. (I could eat the Mimolette cheez-its and carrot chips every day for the rest of my life.) My only complaint was with the carrot cake which was delicious but far too thin. Give us more cake! These days, many restaurants view desserts as a perfunctory obligation and don't seem to put as much time or thought into them. I appreciate Atoma for not overlooking this most important part of the meal. The other delightful things about the menu were the mini cocktails and non-alcoholic drinks. I'm not drinking so much anymore, so it was great having the option of having a smaller portion of a martini or old fashioned. I opted for the former and it was just the right amount of dirty martini and even came with a blue cheese-stuffed olive. Yes, please! I followed that up with a non-alcoholic drink so as not to disturb my sleep later that night. I am so responsible now! Ha ha. Restaurants these days should always have non-alcoholic drinks that aren't the usual soft drinks. So many people are cutting back on alcohol but still want some tasty options besides water or soda. Lastly, the service was really top notch. Our server (with the big, bold glasses) was the perfect combination of friendly, efficient, and helpful. I'm so sorry I don't remember his name (I blame the tini martini ), but we will definitely be back and hopefully I'll catch it next time. Come try this place, you all! read more

The geoduck toast needed more geoduck imo flavor was good though. Crab w/ deviled eggs was really nice. Thought it tasted like a seafood sour cream and onion chip. Sorta nostalgic. Kanpanchi - if u like citrus n carpacio your is it for you. I'm personally not a big fan of those flavors but my wife really enjoyed. Charred sturgeon. Fish was perfectly cooked. Nice char and smoke. High hopes, hit and miss meal: I was super excited to learn I'd be celebrating Valentine's at Atoma since it's gotten a lot of recognition as a top / best new Seattle restaurant. Our multi-course meal and wine pairing started off so well. The crab toast, radish cake, and scallop were the exceptional highlights. However, as the courses moved on, the meal went from "wow, this so GOOD" to just okay by the time we got to the entrée and dessert. I instantly felt cozy once I entered the restaurant. Our server was attentive as he refills our water when the glass is empty. When the food arrives, they repeat the name of the dish and the ingredients used. During my visit, I tried rosette cookie, radish cake, pork collar, sturgeon, lioris mane schnitzel, beef tartare, cabbage, crème brulee, and baked Alaska. I really enjoy the rosette cookie with the sweet walla walla onion jam and the combination with cheese. It was a wonderful starter's bite. The radish cake has a great texture exterior and soft center. I can hardly tell the radish is fermented and the geoduck and clam belly aioli add savory to the dish. The beef tartare was great with the house made potato chips. For mains, I really enjoyed the sturgeon with the gnocchi. It was my first time having lioris mane and it tasted meaty that if you didn't tell me, I wouldn't be able to tell it is mushroom. The pork collar was tender, but a relatively small portion compared to the other dishes. The cabbage is probably my least flavor as the texture of the vegetable was great, but the sauce was a bit too tart for me. The desserts were wonderful. I highly recommend getting the creme brulee as it had a sweet potato base and pomegranate which was a unique combination, but the taste balanced out well. I wish there were more. A more expensive price point for the meal. However, you can tell the work chefs put into each dish and beautifully presented. It can get noisy inside the restaurant where I can't hear the server too well. I'm here for the food and the experience was great. Free street parking is available if you have a bit of patience. It took us just a few minutes to find a spot a block away. The exterior in this renovated home is nicely lit and inviting with a small waiting area (previous mud room porch probably) that we spent just a few minutes in as we arrived on time for our reservation. The staff are exceptionally engaging and ready to serve. The hostess hung up our jackets for us while escorting us to a cozy table in the front. Note that a decor item in the waiting area was visible through a window at our table and I couldn't help but point it out because it was something I had in the 1980s. Made me smile and wonder what the story is behind it. Anyway, we pretty much ordered everything on the menu! Get ready to spend some serious $$. We ordered drinks that were delicious and strong. For starters we had everything minus the crab and for the next round we had the Jerusalem artichoke, kanpachi, and beef tartare. Honestly, I could eat a bowl of the kanpachi! I may or may not have entered into an arm-wrestling competition with the rest of the table to get my fair share of the tartare with chips. For mains we tried the lamb and pork collar. The proteins on both were outstanding. The kumquat sauce on the lamb was a little odd and paired with the salsify root vegetable it created a too sweet(ish) flavor for me. I would have preferred something a little more savory, but I'm not willing to say don't order it--personal taste and all. The sommelier was beyond helpful and had a great sense of humor while we chose a nice red within our budget. Of course, it was an excellent choice that we enjoyed to the last drop. i made my first yelp account because i was so disturbed by my experience here. I came in excited by how creative this menu looked, but the food itself was a real letdown. Almost every dish sounded inventive, but once it hit the table it felt more like an experiment that never quite came together. The small bites set the tone: the Rosette Cookie was greasy instead of crisp, the cheese bland, and the onion jam overwhelmingly sweet. The Radish Cake with geoduck was dense and heavy, with seafood that added brine but no harmony. Even the Grilled Cucumbers--which could've been refreshing--turned watery on the grill, buried under sauces that competed instead of complemented. The seafood dishes were a mixed bag. The Dungeness Crab with corn bisque started strong, but the bisque's sweetness drowned out the delicacy of the crab. Albacore Tuna with stonefruit dashi sounded elegant but tasted muted, more about concept than flavor. Halibut with romesco was technically cooked well, but the whole plate ate flat and uninspired. Mains didn't redeem the meal. The Pork Collar was dry and syrupy from the apricot, while the Maitake "shawarma situation" had chewy texture but muddy spicing that lacked the punch promised. The Chicken Schnitzel with cherry mole was just confusing--thick, heavy breading paired with a fruity mole that never made sense together. Even the sides and breads fell short. The Tomato trio felt like dressed-up farmer's market tomatoes without real depth, and the Potato Salad with ikura was more of a gimmick than a good dish. Only the Crumpets with Jersey milk butter were enjoyable, but that's not enough to carry a menu priced at this level. Desserts capped off the disappointment. The Baked Alaska with corn husk ice cream was more odd than clever, with caramel corn throwing off the texture. The Princess Peach leaned sweet on sweet, and the rotating gelato was safe but forgettable. For the prices, you expect bold flavors, refinement, and a clear vision. Had heard about Atoma as they were gearing up to open and was intrigued when I read that previous Canlis Executive Sous Chef Johnny Courtney is the owner. Was very excited when my friend suggested we go for a girls night out. We had a blast and tried some cocktails: Garlic Honey Highball, Missing Miraflores and a Mini Martini. All amazing but I really loved the Pisco sour resembled one. Dishes are very shareable and so we did just that, except for when my friend enjoyed the pork collar...no thanks..said the pescatarian, here. I was disappointed they took off the fried mushrooms they had on the menu a couple of weeks ago but the Kohlrabi with Dungeness crab, almond milk, curried crab butter and the Lion's Maine Schnitzel made up for it. My boyfriend and I just returned from a lovely dinner at Atoma. I have been looking forward to our reservation for several weeks and have been eyeing IG posts and other diner's reviews in anticipation for this evening. We were not disappointed. Food, service and vibe were all so very nice. Our server was attentive but not overbearing, professional but not stuffy, he was very easy to talk to. We ordered quite a bit of dishes and he expertly paced the courses and always made sure our drinks were full, the support staff were helpful and in the right places at the right times. Our favorite dishes were the rosette cookies, Dungeness crab, crumpets, piri piri carrots and the sturgeon. We also had the turnip cake, lions main, pork collar, and cabbage which were also quite nice. The sturgeon with the gnocchi was so delicate, I found myself eating it as slow as possible making myself the perfect little bites. I'll be thinking about that one for some time. The lions main schnitzel, I would have thought was meat if I hadn't know better. So much flavor! The chefs here know how to treat vegetables and make them stand up to the meat forward dishes on the menu. For dessert we had the d'anjou pear that had a buckwheat crispy cookie and cashew cream. It was lovely and quite the juxtaposition of textures. We decidedly ordered too much for just the two of us, we were quite full but couldn't pass up trying at least one and the pear was a subtle choice to end the evening. Next time we come I think I'd like to sit at the bar to watch all the action in the kitchen. As other diners have mentioned it does get pretty loud once dinner gets going. It didn't bother us but could see how it could if you were hard of hearing. My girlfriend and I dined at Atoma last week and everything was wonderful. We started with their mini cocktails which are a perfect size to have with appetizers and still enjoy wine with your meal. With the cocktails we had the rosette cookies and the radish cakes - we can't decide which was best because they were both so good. Of course we had the crumpets (my girlfriend is Canadian, her mother is British) and they were some of the best we have had. The sauce with the sturgeon was divine. The cabbage is a must have with a totally different and equally as enjoyable sauce. We finished with the baked Alaska. We cannot rave about Atoma enough - the food, the drink, the space and especially the staff make for a delightful evening. read more

We live down the street and have been really excited about this new spot. Went last night with our neighbors and we were all blown away! They did a great job renovating and it's very welcoming in there. Our server, John, was super knowledgeable and friendly. All the food was great, especially the onion jam cookie at the beginning. The only thing we didn't enjoy was the beef, it was way too chewy. Looking forward to going back again for dinner, or even to just sit at the bar and have a drink and snack. Atoma is absolutely fantastic. I've dined all of the world and never expected this level of cuisine out of Seattle. The flavors and presentation were surprising, original and absolutely delicious. The menu is also small enough where you're not overwhelmed, and at the same time have plenty of incredible dishes to choose from. For four of us we essentially ordered the whole menu. Our server Dylan was also exceptional providing 5 star service while also helping guide us through the menu. We bantered and joked around with him throughout the dinner. I'm also not a huge drinker and even the cocktails were different and delicious. Wouldn't be surprised if this was a Michelin caliber restaurant soon enough and will definitely be back. read more

I am struggling between 3 and 4 stars for this restaurant. Let me start with the good: service was excellent, decoration was interesting and yet comfortable, choice of dinnerware was unique and pleasant. Some of the dishes are nicely executed, like the cookie appetizer, halibut and cashew cream dessert. On the other hand, servings are too small. Both pork collar and lamb dish are half size of what I would expect. I am not complaining about the price (mid 30's), but I wish the waiter had given me advice to double down. I had 2 appetizers, 1 main and 1 dessert and left hungry. Then there is the baked Alaska dessert, it is a huge disappointment, might as well call it a thick piece of dough with a small blob of super market quality ice cream for $18. I don't quite understand why it is so hard to get a reservation, we could only get a 5p or 8:30p slot, yet the restaurant was half empty. (Chances of no show is pretty slim as it costs $100 deposit). read more

Our meal at Atoma came at an interesting time - national media has been heaping praise on the place for nearly a year, but this week the local rag took down the food in fairly brutal fashion. Thankfully, our experience lined up with that of the national press (with one exception) and we had a wonderful time - great food, service, and ambience. First, the food: The rosette cookie was excellent and lived up to the hype. Atoma clearly knows their way around an onion and the "cookie" was like nothing I'd had before. The crab toast was deliciously refreshing, down to the toast (why doesn't my toast come out like that at home?!?). Both entrees we tried were wonderful. The black cod had crispy skin and tender flesh and the charred cabbage added a smoky depth to the whole affair. The pork collar was also a winner, and the sauce was delicious enough to scoop up at the end to get every drop. The baked Alaska and hosui pear desserts were both good, but the baked Alaska was our favorite because it was heartier and we were dining in the middle of December. The only dish we didn't like was the tartare with geoduck XO sauce. It was just too salty and the salt overpowered the flavor of the beef. But Atoma swings for the fences, and who can really blame them for the occasional miss? I'd rather eat somewhere that takes risks rather than plays it safe all the time. The service was friendly and knowledgeable without being overbearing. The ambience was comfortably cozy. The room is small, but didn't feel cramped. People seemed to dress up slightly for the occasion, but it's Seattle, so you can basically come as you are (though you might feel out of place doused in mud, soaked in bleach). Finally, regarding the cost (a point raised by the Seattle Times this week): Atoma is not cheap, but the prices aren't crazy by 2024 standards. I've been to plenty of places that cost nearly as much but are not nearly as good. Considering the food, ambiance, and the service, I thought the pricing was reasonable. Would I prefer everything to be 40% less expensive? Of course, but that's not reflective of the inflationary times we live in. All in all, I thought it was a fair value and I look forward to visiting again. I'd definitely add Atoma to my list of places to take out-of-towners for whom you want to highlight Seattle's wonderful food scene. read more

We had bar seats last night at Atoma which I think might be the best seats in the house, as you can see the attention to detail that goes into every dish here. We stuck to vegetarian side dishes - potatoes with French onions, piri piri carrots, crumpets with garlic honey butter, and Waldorf kohlrabi. All of these dishes were spectacular, and when we left we instantly put Atoma in our top Seattle restaurants list. Amazing place. read more

This was one of the best meals start to finish that I have had in Seattle in a long time (or ever??). The service was impeccable, thoughtful and kind. Every item we had was delicious. We started with crumpets which were better than the ones from the Crumpet Shop in Pike Place Market (I can't even believe I am saying that!). Then we shared a squash dish that had multiple types of squashes and preparation and the flavors were out of this world. We then had the sea bass that was tender and flavorful. I went into this restaurant with high expectations, which were sadly not met. The restaurant was aggressively loud, with pounding music; we requested it be turned down as we were seated beneath the speaker, but I don't believe the volume was adjusted at all. This seemed incongruous with a fine dining establishment and made intimate conversation difficult. The NA beverage I ordered was delicious, easily my favorite item of the night. The highly touted rosettes were underwhelming. The pork I ordered was fatty and not very flavorful, with simply dressed sunchokes that I would call fine. It was hard to figure out an ordering "concept" as none of the menu items seemed to go together, despite being seemingly designed to pair together. The menu seemed to be in desperate need of an identity or singular vision. My wife's schnitzel wasn't inspired; I took a bite and knew I wouldn't have been able to consume a whole plate. For these prices, the food should be outstanding, and it truly wasn't. Everything felt overly oily and we both ended up with stomachaches at the end of the evening. read more

Caviar: A small layer of caviar on top of a tub of french onion dip. Enormous fried tater tots that were greasy. Paying this much for such a small amount of caviar and a comical amount of french onion dip was blasphemous. Radish Cake: Fried, dense, little flavor. Rosette Cookie: Again, fried. Tasted like a funnel cake with pub cheese. Beef tartare: Served with potato chips so thin and greasy that you can't actually dip them in the beef. They basically just dissolved. Pork: This was ok, but smothered in what tasted like overly sweet BBQ sauce Sturgeon: Overcooked but also cold and served over a rich cream sauce. How can a fish dish be this rich but also lacking flavor? Cabbage: This was the worst. A slimy cabbage covered in a too salty sauce. Couldn't stomach this one. Price tag: $400. Our family of three visited a couple weeks ago, which was a couple weeks after they opened. Food was interesting and delicious. I loved seeing Lion's mane mushroom on the menu. Highlights were the rosette cookie, mushrooms, black cod. The portions were quite small, though, even for fine dining. We shared three small plates, three entrees and three desserts, and I had a cocktail, and I was not full when I left. The service was great and pacing was quite good, especially considering it was full and they were still very new. But the room, despite it being a converted home, was not at all comfortable. The noise was so loud it was painful by the end of the meal. I felt exhausted after trying to speak loud enough so my family could hear me while struggling to hear them all evening. If they invest in some sound proofing, maybe we'll be back. read more

I guess we're odd-'men' out when it comes to this restaurant. We had reservations last night and left a little underwhelmed. My partner and I are big fans of fine dining- especially when we're aware of who opened the restaurant (impressive) and when they have a creative vision when it comes to food AND craft cocktails. We appreciated the help from our server in selecting our food items, but we eventually concluded the overall flavor profiles were not for us. Doesn't make for a bad restaurant - but this is the first time we both walked away from a place knowing we had no desire to return. Reason for 3 stars (and not 4), was due to how loud the music was maintained inside, even after we were told by the hostess she would turn it down. We were seated right by one of the speakers in the front, and could literally not hear ourselves speak, and we had the same difficulty (naturally) trying to hear our server and sommelier. I HATE being brushed off (or lied to), so when she said she would turn it down a little - I believed her. I also heard another table make the same request (to no avail). Then once you add tables full of other people trying to talk to each other over the music, kitchen noise, waitstaff, bartender....ugh - it really WAS unreasonable. The place is too small to blast your music like that - it's not necessary. Let folks enjoy the experience of a relaxing dinner w/o having to raise their voice constantly. Even w/this experience I would like to say that our server was awesome, as was our sommelier; the rosette cookie was delicious, and the inventive 'crème brûlée' was interesting......but still worth ordering if you're not passionate about how crème brûlée SHOULD taste - and are open to something more 'alternative.' read more
