Delicious with a view! I was in Seattle visiting family and we all headed to Ray's after enjoying a day walking along the beach. We sat in the upstairs cafe with a gorgeous view. The service was good especially with us being a large party. I ordered a watermelon salad that was sooo good. I also got the thai curry muscles. Also a delicious dish. Everyone ejoyed their meal. I will come here for the view anytime. It's a sweet place with a gorgeous view. It has an enjoyable Puget Sound viewpoint and it's 100% iconic in this area. It's nostalgic for me and the outdoor seating is wonderful. I went for lunch, sat outside and had a salmon sandwich with a salad. It was good. The service was cheerful, friendly and attentive. The vibe of the place was fun and busy just like it's been every time I've been to Ray's. I hope the decor, sign, and vibes never change at Ray's. This was the first year I thought it would be fun spend my birthday somewhere else. What made the most sense to me was to head to Seattle, spend time with Dillon's Aunt, and see more of Seattle than I have in the years past. Dillon found this restaurant and we headed here a couple of days after my birthday. It turned out to be the best decision, it was less crowded, away from graduation dinners and celebrations, and though the day was a bit overcast, being near the water, we got to see a club? of stand up paddle boarders and kayakers do their routes in the bay! It's easy to say since we don't live there, but there is beauty in the cloudiness of the sky juxtaposed against the water. We went back and forth with the entrees but ultimately decided on an order of their shigoku oysters they had on special and we each got the Copper river salmon here. We loved it so much the first time we tried it that we had to try Ray's version of it and we were thankful we did!! The oysters were tasty and had a lovely unique flavor and the copper river salmon was cooked perfectly on a bed oof potatoes. The bread plate, though crispy, which we loved, was perfect for dipping and scooping up the remaining sauce and oils. Since it was my birthday there was a nice card left on the table which was a nice sweet touch that started the evening off on a personal touch. The dinner ended with our kind and chipper waiter bringing out a chocolate cheesecake and singing "Happy Birthday," it was fun and so nice! It was truly a wonderful birthday experience and I'm ever thankful Dillon made it so special. The chocolate cheesecake was divine, it had fresh raspberries and a house made raspberry sauce I believe and the cheesecake itself was fluffy and light and probably one of the best chocolate cheesecakes I've ever had. Another cool thing about this restaurant, we got to see an eagle's nest from where we were sitting looking up on a cliff in the trees!! We ordered bread to start ($8). The butter was hard, and since the bread itself wasn't warm, it made spreading nearly impossible - a small detail that set a slightly off tone at the beginning. For mains, we ordered the ribeye and the grilled sablefish. The sablefish was delicious and a nice change from more standard fish dishes I've had before. The puree it came with was good, but the dish, I thought could've been served warmer. The ribeye had a weak sear and chewy, unrendered fat making it tough and difficult to slice, and the cut itself was uneven with one end thicker than the other. The sauce ended up being overpowering rather than enhancing the dish. On a positive note, the service was thoughtful, and the view is absolutely stunning. In the end, I'd come back for the ambiance and maybe another seafood dish, but skip the steak next time. read more

We were sat right at the window, and even post sunset it is a nice ambiance. The restaurant was not overly crowded and we didn't have to wait long with our reservation. I do recommend getting a reservation though. The staff was friendly, helpful and on top of things. The food was good, but was pricey. We got the mushroom risotto and added scallops to it. To add 2 scallops was +$26 which is steep even for Seattle. The scallops were cooked really well, but I would still say the price tag wasn't justified. We also also had the Wild Alaskan King Salmon and the Sablefish in Sake Kasu . The salmon was okay, but nothing noteworthy. The sablefish was delicious, and I would definitely recommend. If you are looking for a special meal - anniversary, birthday, etc. - and want great views of the water then I think Ray's is a good choice. While the food is pricey, there are some solid options on the menu. But if you are just looking for some great seafood, there are better tasting and better priced places around Seattle that would be better suited. read more

Mmm... I had a funny feeling but granted it was a relatively quiet Monday night... The six of us came on the recommendation of a Seattle-ite. obviously, this place is an institution, but our first impression was overhearing someone asking to see the manager.... Uh oh we thought. In the end, the starters were pretty good. We had crab cakes, mussels and calamari. What unfortunately killed it for us was the sablefish was inconsistently cooked. One of us had to send it back because it was completely uncooked in the center even the waiter clearly noticed and apologized. That individual? He unfortunately had a very rough night. Let's just say severe stomach pains. Secondly while very subjective and a preference... one of us felt their scallops were undercooked... I'm not a chef, but if I see translucent areas... I might be concerned... and we are slight translucent areas... to the waiter's credit he offered to cook them further. And btw, the waiter however I must say was super professional, super knowledgeable, and clearly a very senior individual here. We thank him for waiting on our table. My knock is on the kitchen... I understand it's a quiet Monday night, but clearly they whiffed on some of the dishes. Me personally I never go to a place where yelp has less than 4.4 if I can avoid it. Always a favorite! Ray's Boathouse never misses. The seafood is always incredibly fresh and cooked perfectly -- you can really taste the quality in every bite. Literally came here right after a funeral at the Elks club just next door. My mom suggested it and she had never been and I was in from out of town and was just fine checking it out. This place looks like it's been here for a while but it was very clean and didn't give me any weird vibes at all. Very friendly hostess staff and we were there around 4:00 so they were still just serving lunch. We had a great view of the bay on a very nice October day. I ordered just the standard fish and chips which to be honest we're actually pretty good. Portion maybe was a bit smaller but this is definitely more of a nicer place so that's expected of course. The coleslaw was also more high quality for sure. My mom just had some happy hour specials since she doesn't eat very much and that was all good. A scenic dinner spot with lots of good food options. Parking seems to usually not be an issue, but the night we went they were also hosting a wedding so we ended up parking about a 10 minute walk away. The location has a decent sized parking lot out front for both the downstairs boathouse and the cafe on the 2nd floor. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating available. We were able to make a reservation through the restaurant's website (reservations are powered by RESY) which made seating very smooth. The service was excellent and we got a lot of good recommendations from our waiter. We were there during happy hour so we opted for the happy hour portions so that we could try more food. We were informed the happy hour prices are about equivalent to that of the regular menu but they appear lower in price since the portion size is smaller. Everything we tried was delicious and fresh. My favorite dish was the shrimp scampi bucatini. It was packed with shrimp and was very flavorful. The brown rice that came with the sablefish was very dry but the fish itself was cooked perfectly. There were a couple of flys that kept lingering around our table, but other than that it was an overall great experience. read more

We passed Ray's boathouse during a boat tour/cruise during our time in Seattle. Ray's is an iconic institution there! We knew we had to have dinner at Ray's on our last evening in town. After parking and walking inside, we were immediately greeted by a kind hostess. She opted to seat us indoors or outdoors and we chose the first level outside patio. And, what a view it was (we even saw a seal swimming around nearby)! The waiter arrived and brought us water and we ordered our drinks, then perused the menu. The waiter was so kind and helpful and explained some of the favored menu items. We ordered the ahi tuna aqua chile appetizer that was a chef's special. It was delicious!!! We also each had entrees with local seafood. My husband had the sablefish and I had the halibut. That was some of the freshest seafood we've had! If you're in Seattle, don't miss out on Ray's. My friends and I had dinner at Ray's boathouse Café on the upper deck a few days ago. Sitting on the deck on a summer night with gorgeous view of the water was fantastic. We initially ordered drinks, which were well made and tasty. However, when it came to food it wasn't so great. The fish and chips were overdone. The fish was fried to death, to the point of hard to chew through. I was a little disappointed that for the price of the food, it wasn't as good as I thought it would be. Afterwards, we ordered some dessert which was really nice. However, the waiter came and took it away without asking us whether we were done, which we were not. That was annoying. Overall, the experience was a mixed bag, so I am not sure if I'll be back. read more

The view! Ambiance was fabulous - I reserved a table on the main floor instead of the deck and was able to enjoy the spectacular view. Food - excellent choices for the Happy Hour - clam chowder, Brussels sprouts, tuna, mussels. The waiter even brought us more of that yummy bread for the mussels. We've been here multiple times over the years, this night we celebrated our anniversary! What a fantastic meal with beautiful atmosphere and stellar service! We started with the mussels in a garlic wine sauce with crunchy, perfectly oily bread! My husband enjoyed the filet mignon with a herb butter, potatoes and veggies. My halibut was moist and flaky with pickled onions for a bit of sweetness. I do wish the gnocchi wasn't so rubbery but I just pushed it aside and enjoyed everything else. Drinks were pretty and delicious. I really appreciated how the server paced the food so we didn't feel rushed. We had plenty of time to enjoy our drinks and the view before the food came out. Went there with family that lives here in Seattle (we came in for a cruise leaving from Seattle to Alaska). Service was slow as F!! We were seated and waited nearly 20+ minutes without any aknowledgement and our local family member went to the host stand to ask WTF.. Finally someone came.. got our drink and food order (after 30 min we knew what we wanted). We ordered 3 apps and entrees for all 4 of us.. one of the appetizers was "Tanner Crab" cluster (another name for Bairadi) and we got one cluster for like $42.. and there is no way on earth what we were brought was Tanner/Bairadi.. I've had lots of that and while not as many spikes/spines as King Crab it has some and is nearly as large as King.. what we were served was a medium/large snow crab cluster at insane pricing!! (I didn't say anything because we were with local family that eat there semi-regularly and didn't want to cause a scene). The food was OK.. not bad.. but the pricing was crazy expensive to me!! 4 people the bill was $440 so with tip it ran me $530 . If we ever come back to Seattle, I don't think we will ever go to Ray's again... save your money and find another place to go... read more

Watching the sunset over the water really is special, and the staff were genuinely kind and attentive, which made the experience pleasant overall. That said, the food didn't live up to the hype or the price tag. I paid $48 for a pasta dish that was completely underwhelming -- bland sauce, average shrimp, and zero "wow" factor for the cost. The salmon sandwich was also disappointing: mostly bread, not much salmon, and lacking the rich flavor you'd expect from a Pacific Northwest seafood spot. If you're visiting for a drink and the view, it's worth it. But if you're after a memorable seafood dinner, there are much better options in Seattle for the price. read more

Arrived before 5pm so we headed upstairs to enjoy happy hour couple of beers, chowder, and manilla clams...very tasty Then went downstairs and table next to window where we watched seals/sea lions, sailboats. The menu is different than upstairs, for example no fish and chips at restaurant only upstairs in Cafe. I will start out by saying that the outdoor area at Ray's is absolutely gorgeous and I love going there in the Summer. Overall, I've had some pretty good food there, but I've had a few issues that are really not acceptable. I'll start with my most recent experience I had last week, when I ordered the ahi poke bowl - everything was good except for the rice, which was actually terrible. It tasted old and I let the server know and she insisted that it was made fresh. Well, I make jasmine rice regularly, and I definitely know what fresh batch tastes like and if it somehow was made that day, then that's even more shocking, because I don't know how you can mess up rice so badly. The other negative experience actually happened last summer - I ordered the bacon wrapped scallops and the parts of the bacon that overlapped were completely raw. I brought it to the attention of the server and he gave me new bacon. I figured this issue would be resolved after something like that happened so I ordered it again the following week and the same thing occurred. I encourage the kitchen to consider using a thinner bacon which can be wrapped just once so as to not overlap and potentially serve a customer raw bacon. read more

We were seated promptly at 5 up against the windows. The waiter was prompt, helpful and informative. We had Brussels sprouts, crab cluster, shrimp scampi, ribeye and the crème brûlée and I don't have anything negative to say about any of it. We came to Ray's without a reservation on Friday night to celebrate a dinner and waited about 10 minutes before finding a seat. They have lots of bar, patio, and indoor seating but there was a wedding rehearsal dinner happening that night as well. They have an extensive drink menu and we were able to enjoy their happy hour menu. We ordered these to share: clam chowder, crispy fried calarmi, PNW mussels, and PNW Manila clams. The clam chowder and mussels were the star of the show. The clam chowder is just right with lots of clams, flavor, and creaminess. We all loved soaking up the mussels red curry coconut broth sauce with bread. Their house-smoked sablefish is legendary and my friends always ordered that in the past so I got to try that as well. It was drizzled with chimichurri and cabbage cream and so delicately flaky and melted in my mouth. We really enjoyed our dinner with a beautiful view of the water outside. read more

In a world where restaurant spaces flip like hotcakes, Rays is a stalwart icon of Seattle. The view here is perfection. If you sit on the window you are directly over water and look due west for a beautiful sunset. The formal downstairs dining room harkens back to a time when people got dressed up and expected white table cloths and formal service to mark a special occasion. To be honest, I typically avoid the white table cloth experience but, since we got married in Ray's sweet little wedding venue a few years ago, we decided we'd stop back in for an anniversary dinner. Service was attentive, food was tasty, we happened to be seated close to the end of the dining room where the wedding venue is, so the vie was extra nostalgic. Rays is a great place to bring out of town guests who want a nice seafood meal with a stellar view. Or if you need a nice spot to celebrate. Since there is an ample parking lot right out front and a fairly accessible entry way-- this is a good spot to bring folks who are nervous about driving/parking in the city or need guaranteed close parking. They also had *several* tasty sounding vegetarian options, which is unusual for this type of restaurant. read more

With appetizer two drinks, two glasses of wine and two entrees it was well over $300. Also, their dining room always has a sort of a cafeteria feel to me...maybe it's the lack of table clothes? We got a table by the window and loved the view, since this was back in summer we got to watch the sun set during our dinner. We got Crispy Calamari and Rays Northwest Chowder. I loved the Chowder, Crispy Calamari was okay, a bit greasy for our liking, was our least favorite item. We then got Applewood Grilled Wild Alaskan King Salmon, and Dungeness Crab Cakes. I loved the Dungeness Crab Cakes. The Applewood Grilled Wild Alaskan King Salmon was great, we asked for potatoes to be replaced with mixed veggies. The cafe is a Great seafood spot overlooking the water. We tried the oysters with a side crab cake, the salmon sandwich, and the 1/2 dozen oysters. The crab cake didn't disappoint, it was not full of filler! But with crabmeat! The oysters were delicious but I prefer horseradish along with them, I honestly didn't ask if they had some on the side. The salmon burger was delicious as well! A solid 8.5/10 rating for me. Service was great too. When I sent it back, I was told, "You're just not used to octopus served in the Northwest." That dismissive remark, followed by noticeably cooler service, was a letdown after such a promising start.
