My family member entered Atria Riverdale memory care September 2025. Our family has had a very positive experience and our cousin is doing so well. The transition from his home to Atria was handled beautifully by staff and now 10 months later he is thriving. I visit about once a week and find him well cared for and cared about. The staff has been so friendly and professional and through their guidance and patience he has become more independent. Special thanks to Eric the director who never fails to respond when there is a question or concern and helps to create a positive environment for the residents. In general I have found the overall atmosphere at Atria to be professional, welcoming and caring. Atria Riverdale lures prospective residents by giving them a promise of a low (3%-5%) annual rent increase, then once you are settled you get a letter from the Director asking for 10% (or more.) Classic bait & switch. If you are living on a fixed income, get their promises on record. Record what they say on your mobile phone. Let The Buyer Beware! read more

When my mother arrived there, she needed an assisted living facility. Things quickly unravel. FYI, they're serving kosher meals. The residents are hiding salt and spices because the food is so bland and horrible. But I digress from the nature of this story. When she needed memory care, we moved to the memory care. But it was clear that they could not give her what she needed. So I had to hire outside AIDS. But I learned from them was quite extraordinary. My mother was never allowed to finish a meal. A notoriously slow eater when she was well they wouldn't allow her to finish, they wouldn't allow the aid that I hired to help her, and when they were ready to clean up. They simply pulled her plate away from her. By the time we found a new facility and I'm saying that memory care lasted all of three months for her, she was under 100 pounds. I'm also going to take a moment to tell you that the physician who works with atria is a piece of crap. He put my mother on stool softeners and anti constipation medication. She wasn't constipated. Instead, she was literally flushing out of her system all day long. I had to find a new place for her. She died too much later. There's nothing you can tell me that doesn't lay the blame for her condition and her passing squarely at the doorstep of this facility. I have never experienced anything like this, and if I can act as a lighthouse to people to please find someplace else that's what this review is meant to do. read more

Considering them for myself. Tried to look up some things on their website. Site and links frozen. Called. Receptionist not helpful - blamed my WiFi connection. Tried again. Site frozen, message saying Riverdale Atria site not available. Called back, spoke with Sales Rep who sounded exactly like receptionist who'd answered the phone earlier. Arranged for her to call me back yesterday. So far no call. Dealt with Riverdale Atria about 2 or 3 yrs ago ... was treated very well and had very favorable impression. My father has been living at Atria Riverdale for over six months. We visited many places before settling on this one but were sold on Riverdale because of the interaction between residents and staff. This was the only facility where we saw residents interacting, laughing and actually interested in the activities that were scheduled. We toured a few times and had lunch with other residents - the food and service is great. We cannot be happier with the decision and although we were hesitant at first, our dad now thanks us for introducing him to the idea. read more

Whats not after a year of being there they evicted our mom due the progression of Alzheimer's They didn't let my mom return from the hospital .. as of this writing she in a holding pattern at a hospital. They wanted us to get her a 24 hour aid and 20/hr 13.500 a month + 7K rent ... MONEY !! My mom was a resident at the Atria of Riverdale between 2014 and 2015 after giving up her apartment of 25 plus years in Riverdale, NY. At the time, she was hospitalized for an illness and I started to look for a new home that would meet mom's needs, including diet, medical, social activity and rehab/exercise. The Atria of Riverdale was that and more. The staff is professional, gentle, knowledgeable in senior needs, etc. The activities included going to the movies in Bronxville, visiting nice restaurants in Westchester, trips to the casino in Yonkers, and many daily activities at the Atria, movie night, lectures on opera, Jewish life, books, work groups and so on. Mom's favorite was her daily card game with her friend Marcia. Costs I'm the one who pays mom's bills and the only minor complaint was billing was late when they switched over to a new person who did the billing. I NEVER had a problem on billing and I'm a frugal person. Most Important The social life is what Mom was missing stuck in her apartment. And the Atria provides a safe environment for living. read more

NEW director, NEW vision! My mother has been living at ATRIA for more than 5 years. Toni, hands on director, has been the best ever (and there have been quite a few before her). She is ontop of EVERYTHING, takes responsibility for daily issues and has high expectations of all of her staff. The difference since she has come onboard is remarkable. Unlike most administrators, Toni's words have value; she does what she says and models practices that are intrinsic to working with the ELDERLY. Food and service is great, housekeeping is ontop of my mom's apartment and maintenance works effectively and efficiently. Nurses and Doctors are quick to respond to my mother's medical needs. I am involved daughter, visiting my mother every other day, usually for a meal. Of course there are things that go wrong in such a setting, but I see so many great things going on every single day... I love visiting my mother... Atria is my mother's home and it feels like her home in every way. read more

Don't be fooled by appearances. When you go and visit everything is nice and pretty and everything seems so well run. BUT - - - after your loved one is actually living at Atria Riverdale for a while, you realize there is massive confusion in management. Our latest complaint is that Atria, since January 2014, has been charging an ADDITIONAL $475 to medicate the residents. What was formerly done as part of the monthly fee is now being done for an additional $5000 plus annually and the system is not working. Residents are forced to leave their apartments to be medicated, often waiting in crowded conditions amidst confusion for the person administering the prescriptions to actually show up. Sometimes you have hunt the med-tech down to actually GET your medication. Mom sometimes has had to wait HOURS for her medications and, worst of all, SHE HAS BEEN MIS-MEDICATED at least four times to our knowledge. She's even missed medications because no one followed up to make certain she received it. One time she was handed her night time medications in the morning (luckily she realized that before she agreed to take the pills) and the "staff" has trouble following her doctor's changes in her medications, continuing to give her older medicines after the doctor has changed her prescriptions. Basically she is paying someone else to medicate her while she has to manage her own supervision to make certain it's being done properly. I'm sure this is not a unique situation and luckily Mom is on top of things enough to make sure something serious doesn't happen to her. The attitude in "Wellness" (the euphemism used to call the nursing office) is not acceptable. Staff seems more concerned with their performance reviews than with the actual wellness of the people whose lives are entrusted to them. Their attitudes are at times argumentative, surly, and in general completely unprofessional and often, they don't return urgent attempts by the residents to reach them when there's a problem for several hours or even not at all. In all honesty, we are deeply disappointed and feel that we've been misled as to Atria Riverdale's ability to address, maintain and protect the quality of life of their residents. We've been asked several times by people if we would recommend Atria Riverdale and we've responded "emphatically not." The only reason Mom remains there is because of the many deeply satisfying friendships she has formed with members of the resident community and the truthfully high level of caring and commitment she receives from the aids. Her leaving now would be emotionally very stressful to her, but she finds the mismanagement and bungling by the administration at Atria Riverdale extremely stressful as well. Cheech and Chong could do a better job of running this place. read more

My Uncle died a year ago on the Fourth of July. He was in Atria Riverdale and used the aides 24 hrs a day. Let me simply say the service was terrible and he suffered greatly in his last days. I would NEVER recommend an Atria facility for a loved one. They were cold and uncaring before and after his death. I used to love the Fourth of July but not so much anymore. read more

I would have to say there are pluses & minuses about Atria. My mom moved there in July 2017. Her apartment is nice and the staff is friendly. We have had some issues with getting staff to her room when she needs them and also getting nighttime checks on time. Some issues with med follow-up as well. And really-- $500. a month to administer 2 meds daily is absolutely ridiculous. Sorry- but perhaps they ought to "pro-rate" for the amount of meds and times per day for administering them. On the other hand- I have found that the administration does manage to have a pretty quick response time when I call with concerns. Some staff have told her things like "don't eat ice cream at night because you'll have to go to the bathroom" and this has upset her. I wonder if that might be because they don't want her using her wrist pager. Sometimes she tells me she waits 15 minutes for someone to get to her. I think the night staff is sparse. Well, she's 93 and we pay a lot of money for 24/7 services. Yes, the monthly is expensive, but it is New York. I would imagine many of the Assisted living facilities in The Bronx have many of the same issues and that residents & their families complain. I do wish the situation was excellent- but I doubt that will ever be the case. All in all- My mom is safe, gets good meals, and when staff does answer her wrist pager- they are nice and attentive. read more

It's been several months since I last visited my Uncle at Atria. It was a pleasant surprise to see how the renovations have progressed. Most importantly the staff has remained friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating.
