A small brunch spot in OC with very few seating. Although there was a little wait, I was able to order almost immediately after I got sat. Decided to try the breakfast burrito which was pretty basic and lacking of flavor, but the hot sauce made it a lot better. Not sure what type of hot sauce it was but it had a really good kick to it! I was able to choose 3 toppings on the french toast so i chose banana, berries, and nutella, however, for the nutella they kinda just gave slabs here and there instead of a drizzle but they were generous with it! This restaurant is a very small mom and Pop location. There is a decent wait time if you go here, so just be prepared. The food here was decent. I ordered the basic breakfast plate so it was not anything extraordinary. I wasn't really super hungry to be eating something filling so I just opted to try something simple. My baby liked it. I will probably go back here but order for takeout, because the space is very small. I have a baby as well, so that takes up a lot of space. My friends and I had high hopes for this restaurant given the reviews. Party size: To begin, we weren't aware that the max number of guests in a group is 6. We also didn't know that there is a 20% gratuity charge for groups larger than 5. This being said, I recommend to come here if your party is 2 or less since you'll get seated way quicker as well. Once we were seated, I had requested an extra chair as the booth wasn't big enough for some of my friends. ‼ Before anything else, this place was delicious and my reservations are regarding a specific instance where I had a group of SIX (max amt.), TWO vegans, and peak brunch time, therefore conveying a more nuanced and specific situation ‼ FOOD: The steak sandwich was so juicy and I loved it. A little on the chewier side but not an issue for me. The french toast was the perfect mixture of crunchy and moist. Steak chilaquiles was very good, and has a more lemon-lime taste to it, with little to no spice. Chips were a little hard, still very yummy. Vegan food will be described more below. BEVERAGE: LOVE the cafe de olla. My barista friend said it was the star of the show, and I may have to agree. Ordered both of ours iced and I added creamer for more sweetness. 10/10! SERVICE: After seating, very quick, kind, and courteous. Pretty lax and accommodating. To preface, I understand the difficulties of running and working at a smaller business serving quality food. I have worked back of the house at a similar business, along with my girlfriend. Two of the people in my party have also worked as a barista and host respectively, so our issues lay primarily in how things could be handled better. I also came with high expectations from the 5 stars, drool worthy pictures, the theme and name of the spot, and it being a POC woman-owned cafe! We arrived around 11:20 am on Sunday. As it is peak brunch time and Sunday, two of us had attempted calling approximately 4-5 times 30 minutes prior, to alert the restaurant beforehand of our larger party and possibly being put on the list. Unfortunately, the calls were left unanswered. Our next course of action was to simply write our name and wait. We waited approximately an hour before approaching the host and inquiring how much longer to wait. We had to leave around 1:30, and had already accomodated for a long wait by arriving 2 hours beforehand. We understand that our schedule is not their problem, though it is still imperative to seat guests efficiently. They have only 2 tables that can hold groups of a larger size (5-6) and one had just been seated, while the other had just gotten their food. That put us at another 30-40 minute wait. During our wait, we quietly observed as the two tables outside were left empty, one yet to be bussed, for over fifteen minutes and around 10 people were still on the waitlist. As time went on, we saw other tables that had been partially, or not cleaned as parties ranging from 2/3/6 (us), stood around. We asked about possibly combining tables, to be met with the fact that they do not typically do so. Understandable, so after, out of hunger and time constraints, we suggested to just be split up and were seated at 3 tables, two at each table (one pair placed inside), and sat quickly. Though the issue was resolved with promptness, it was unfortunate that we felt like we had to problem solve seating issues. The menu states that anything can be turned vegan, and while true, it was our presumption that certain items would be substituted that resulted in disappointment. My friend had initially planned on ordering a vegan wet burrito, only to find that the substitutions to be made were either soyrizo or potato, leaving not much in the burrito. Instead, he opted for the green vegan chilaquiles and was disappointed by the smaller portion sizing. Combined with the frustration from the wait, needless to say, he was unhappy. I would recommend utilizing either a FOH kiosk (which I understand can be pricey) or a waitlist service to allow for SMS/calls when tables are ready. When given an approximate wait time and easier mode of communication, it reduces the likelihood of customer frustration from standing around for hours at a time. The system used now creates wait times that are constantly subject to change and require customers to be directly near the vicinity and within hearing distance at all times. Sometimes people wait in their cars, so when circumstances change and they miss the calling of the name twice, it can be frustrating for both parties involved when the table is unclaimed or given away. I would come again with a smaller party and more time to spare, and will hopefully be able to update with a more concise and happier review :') read more

My wife and I came here for some breakfast before attending the NAMM show two weeks ago. I generally don't like to eat out for breakfast but decided to give this a try since it's not the typical, boring American breakfast. I would categorize this place as a modern Mexican breakfast joint, somewhat similar to No Toro Cafe in Artesia. We went with Durango Chilaquiles and Ortega Chorizo Wet Burrito. I initially thought I'd like the chilaquiles more than the burrito, but ended up being the opposite. I'm not sure if it was the green salsa on the burrito or just the overall combination, but I thought the burrito had a more zesty flavor. Kind of weird since both dishes had similar ingredients. For chilaquiles, I still prefer the one at Anepalco, but the one here is still pretty good. Chilaquiles can be ordered with red or green salsa, and you can add chorizo, chicken, or steak for additional cost. Menu isn't overwhelming but there's quite a variety, so I will need to come back and try more items. Menu indicates any item can be done vegan. It's in a rather sketchy strip mall, but the restaurant is clean and cozy. It's not a big place so it can get quite crowded during peak breakfast time. read more

I've only ever had one good experience here. Drove in with 4 adults and 3 children, which was 7 people, the max is 6. We understood the max that could be seated in one party is 6, but we were two separate parties. We asked if we could do one group of 4 and one group of 3 and that we were not looking to be sat together. We were SEPARATE parties that met the limit.They said no. There were multiple tables open, one party could have came in at least. Ridiculous logic. Just because we drove in together means we can't be seated at all... okay... Months ago, my mother and brother were getting up from their seats after have finishing their meal (they understand it's a microscopic restaurant and only came to eat and leave, not to chitchat max 30 minutes) and the waiter asked if they could leave to seat the next people even though they were already pushing in their seats. Before that, I asked if I could order to go a bit before they closed but understood if they couldn't. I was told "NO. WERE ABOUT TO CLOSE, CANT THEY READ THE SIGN." Small cafe with amazing service! When my group and I walked in, they greeted us immediately and offered drinks right away. Everyone had a very warm, homey kind of personality, which is always great. It was like walking into your friend's place and they're about to whip you up something good. We all got the scramble plate, which each of us getting something different. One of our plates ended up getting mixed up and we didn't figure it out until halfway into eating our meal. Luckily, there's no allergies or anything serious, but it occurred because they placed the toast on the wrong plate and both of us got similar things inside our scramble. We were seated rather quickly, friendly staff but the turnaround time on the food once we orderded was a little slow so that made me worry. The clear winner...my husband had the chilaquiles with chorizo and a mix of the red and green salsa. Delicious is too modest for this Mexican breakfast staple.
