I am so glad we established our relationship with your office and especially Dr. Lawson. She is the best! She always had an affection for my dog Baxter and knew how close Baxter and I were. He was 14 years old with a massive cancer on his elbow and was having a lot of trouble walking and it was time to put him down. I would not want it to be with any other doctor and her and I really cried for him. She has been really wonderful with him and helped get him through an additional year with less pain. The staff was very thorough and checked with us about our dog's past records. They also communicated with us leading up to our appointment, which was great. However, we were disappointed with the veterinarian. She initially came across as friendly, but as the visit went on, we felt she became somewhat condescending, as if we didn't understand our own dog's issue. We do know what has been happening with her. We also never received an estimate for the teeth cleaning or possible extraction. It felt like the appointment ended quickly, and we were rushed out without that information. I will say the building itself is very clean and professional. This clinic is very shady, especially if you have a pet from a shelter. They up-sale you for unnecessary things that just drives up your cost of visit, and make it seem like you don't have a choice. I do want to premise that there are two vets at the clinic. The vet I'd definitely beware of is Keely Bertram, D.V.M. Every time we've gotten her there's been an issue. The first time, she gave our first cat an absurdly high dose of deworming medication and made her very sick. We went back in and she was insisting it was our fault until she read the bottle and realized it was an error on her part. In another instance we took our new cat from the shelter and they insisted we redid all of her vaccines because "they didn't trust where the vaccine was administered" (costed us nearly $500!). Not to mention, they always get a bad reaction after their shots, which they will tell you is normal (numerous family/friends with cats don't report such symptoms from their vets). To be honest, we only go back because this vet has our cat's records. We literally PRAY we get the other vet because she's actually trust worthy. Looking for another place because I'm feeling like a terrible owner taking my cats there. I even get a disgusted look from other people when I tell them this is where I take my cats (I'm guessing there's already a reputation here). read more

Our pet's original vet closed, and our older Husky Malamute suddenly got sick. Atwater Veterinary Center was the only clinic in the area that was able to schedule us immediately. Unfortunately, our fur baby had developed a tumor in her bladder that was not operable. They were compassionate and understanding. Gave us several scenarios and options to help us make a decision during a difficult time. Sadly, we had to euthanize our baby. They were amazing through the whole ordeal. The staff here is fabulous. I am a new cat owner and rescued a 5-week-old kitten. I was not informed that I would need to get a booster every three weeks until my cat turned 16 weeks old. I have since learned that if I had waited until my cat turned 16 weeks, she would only need one shot. I am currently unemployed and would have appreciated the option to wait and not pay $102 every three weeks for an office visit and booster. I called the office and spoke with the office manager, asking if they could work with me and only charge me for the vaccines, excluding the $74 vet visit fee. She stated it was protocol and that they could not accommodate my request. It's unfortunate that Atwater Vet could not help me resolve this matter due to protocol. I don't want the same thing to happen to new cat owners and wish I had been informed about this at my first vet appointment with my kitten. If you're are experiencing a financial hardship or simply want to save wait until your kitten is 16 weeks old to get their vaccine, it could save you $300 +. read more

I was very happy with our visit here this week. I brought my dog in after he was recently adopted from merced county Animal control. With his adoption I got his first visit waived with showing all of his adoption papers. The vet did a thorough check of my dog and found that he had a large fox tail in his ear. We got it removed immediately with sedation. I was given medication to treat his ear. I don't feel that they try to over charge you as others have reviewed. I have been to other vets with my previous dog and those are outrageously overpriced. This will be my dogs vet as they gave me a follow up call the following day and I was very pleased with the staff and follow through. read more

I chose Atwater Vet Center for my Boston Terrier puppy after seeing that a share of the doctors had spent time at UC Davis. Our rescue has been going to Davis with many problems, and has been helped tremendously, so having doctors that have spent part of their education time there was key for me. Sam , our puppy, had his puppy shots and exam here. He was pretty comfortable. The doctors explain, answer all questions, and my questions get answered on the phone if I have a concern. Moved to the area about a year ago and had been going to Merced for vet care. After a couple unsatisfactory vists, we decided to give AMVC a shot. So glad we did! We got an appointment within a few days of calling, all interactions were polite, patient and well explained. We felt they took the appropriate measures for COVID-19 and although it is difficult for everyone, I still feel we got more personal attention and care then at other local vets. So I can either pay $55 upfront, and risk losing the "refundable" deposit if something happened out of my control, or I can make two trips on the same day! Funny enough, I passed by this small, wonderful office while I was in Atwater picking up a few items for my newly adopted male rabbit. (I live in Manteca) He was at a flea market for 5 bucks and was in a tiny cage with about 10 other rabbits. Couldn't help it! Anyway, looked up the clinic and after speaking with Jackie for a few minutes, I scheduled my appointment for my little guy. Jackie was informative and gave me a 24 hour window to call back and pay my deposit as I couldn't find my card while we were on the phone. Though I don't recall their names, all three of the techs I saw before and after Sandy's appointment were kind, attentive, and very loving to my bunny, myself, and my two busy bodied children who couldn't bare to be away from their pet. I was given great info, after care instructions, and it was a wonderful experience for us overall. Melissa(maybe Marissa? I'm sorry!) who called from front desk was also so wonderful with calling ahead for pickup and letting me know how my bunny was doing. I don't understand these people. They are rarely friendly. They see a dog many times in a month for expensive testing (one time 8 am to 5:15 pm) but then still call it a she when it clearly is a he. They order flea treatments when my dog has never had fleas. All they want to do is blood tests but never give meds to help the issues. Very angry and frustrated. My dog has cushings disease, arthritis and is at least 15 years old. I have given a lot of money to this vet and they don't seem to care. read more

I had the worst experience in this place. I've bringing my dogs for care at the Atwater location for a while now my puppies got their puppy shots and now they're adult care, including treatment for fleas and stuff like that. My Frenchie dog got pregnant and I schedule an appointment for a puppy count, I provided dates of her being in heat. I provided all the information needed to know more or less when will she have them I even told them the date that I would think they would be born counting down from the date that she started her head in her contact with a male dog. the day before my appointment they call me to cancel it because according to the technician my puppy still had time and it was not needed for her to have her x-ray yet. I insisted that she had her appointment because I thought that she had no time that she would go in labor. But they said no she still has time she could wait for next week. That was on a Thursday by Monday afternoon she went into labor Overnight, I have to tell you it was a nightmare I was so unprepared, because I got told she still have time I didn't know how many puppies she was caring for what to expect. Keep in mind. This is my first Frenchie. Me and my husband help her out she had 4 puppies but in the fifth one she got tired and he got stuck in the birth canal I was on the phone with one another emergency hospitals in the area. They told me to wait for a while. If she could do it on her own, but a 7:30 in the morning. To bring her to her primary care veterinary or to bring her to the emergency hospital, since I live five minutes away from my primary care, the previous mention Atwater Veterinary, I decided to bring her to the facility since they open at 7:30. When I spoke to the receptionist, she told me she ate until eight at the time it was 745. I told him I would wait. She told me she didn't recommend me to wait because my Dog didn't have time to wait she said this a few times until I got upset and told her do you know how long it will take me to get to the emergency keep in mind we are 30 to 40 minutes away from Merced or Turlock, which is in your hospitals. Once the technician arrives. back and told me that they could check her, but they they wouldn't do nothing the technician is surgery schedule all day, and then they had to turn me away. I was very upset. I went off on the receptionist, even mention I was gonna contact a lawyer . I ended up taking them to Taylor emergency hospital where she had 5 more puppies; unfortunately, we lost one because .I was so upset! if you love your puppy, I recommend you not to bring to this place, they truly don't care about animal care, or if you have an emergency. They call and cancel and reschedule appointments like it's nothing. Without caring if your dog really needs to be seen. Having my first Frenchie have puppies was a nightmare Thanks to them. Please don't be like me that because it was the closest place to home. I decided to bring my puppies here. I will not do the same mistake again from now on I would rather drive to Merced or to Turlock even if that means driving 30 to 40 minutes. These are more than pets. In Feb of 2020, we moved into a new house and didn't realize the poor condition of the back yard. When we let our little Yorkie go out there she went right through the fence and the neighbors big dogs just tore her up. I thought she was ok just soaked with saliva, but there was a picture in her chest cavity. We took her to our vet, AVC, and the Vet would not even give us the time of day. The puncture was indeed a lung puncture which is grave for our little baby. Before I continue, I Dont blame the neighbors or their dogs, I blame myself for this happening to her. And it's hard to swallow. But the problem here was that she was dying in my wife's arms and because we didn't get paid for TWO DAYS, literally, the Vet would not see us. The poor girl at the desk kept going to the back to speak with the vet and the answer was NO everytime. The poor girl was in tears herself. The Vet however was a coward and wouldn't even come out to even comfort us. Coward Coward Coward. If she could have waited just two days, not a month or a week, but two days, I would have been willing to pay triple the amount. There is no misunderstanding here. Even the place we ended up taking her where she was ultimately euthanized, they could not believe that they would not help us even under our financial circumstance. I just van't believe she would not even come out and speak with us. We thought we had a good vet to go to, they have done previous work on the same dog as well as our other dog. She was speided and vaccinated and chipped. They were top notch. But that doesn't matter much when they treat people like they, I mean she has treated us. I know homeless people can take their dog and get treatment free. I was not asking for a hand out. So when any of you go in there with your pets, just say the words, "I FORGIVE YOU!" My daughter has been going there with her animals forever and yesterday her dog was having a seizure that wouldn't quit so she called them to see if she could get him right in right away, they said they didn't have an appointment till 445 it was only at 11 at the time. So instead of Letting her bring her dog who is constantly seizing a two minute drive to their place, they said no we have to go all the way to the other side of Merced or drive to Turlock. Which either way is a 30 minute drive, so we chose Merced but I think by the time we got there and they did what they could but we brought him home and unfortunately he passed this morning . I don't know if it would help going to there but making that dog go a half hour before being seen I think it caused more harm than good. I think I am no longer taking my animals there because they obviously don't care for their welfare. read more

I took my "Baby Topeko" last thursday to be neutered...if I could turn back time my baby would never have had this "routine " surgery, nor would he have had to endure three days of extreme pain and a very major second surgery. That is not true I called to schedule appt person that took call said they would call me back. After 1 day I had a message saying my appt was and a date. Thank God I went to Santa Fe pet hospital they took chula in that same day did surgery kept her over night to make sure was ok Turns out her growth was cancerous Dr. Bell did a good job removing it all . They were more attentive and caring and surgery 400 less. My dogs mean the world to me how I was treated and my dog was at risk of cancer spreading I will never go back to Atwater Veterinary . read more

After moving back to CA from MO, I had to find a vet- I went to several in Turlock and found them to be cold and uncaring toward my dogs and they were all very expensive. This vet was recommended to me. All of my dogs were old- I got all 3 of them with in a year of each other without realizing that they would all get old at around the same time- with in a 2 year period, I had to make THAT decision for my dogs. I brought them to Atwater Vet Center when the time came and these people were so compassionate and caring- in addition their care costs were much lower than the vets in Turlock. Not only did they treat my dogs with compassion and love, they were very understanding of my feelings. A few weeks after my dogs were put down, I received a card in the mail from them a long with a certificate of my dogs paw print. As far as costs are concerned, they charged between 40. to 60. less than the vets in Turlock and they offer a 5% discount to senior citizens. I would recommend this vet to anyone who is searching for a vet with compassion both for our pet and also to us as pet parents. read more

I am convinced these people over vaccinated my cat and caused a lethal blood clot. I took my 1year old rescue kitty in for their kitten kaboodle deal. Included vaccines and s micro chip. Exactly 1 month later my cat develops a deadly blood clot in the same place they administered the shots. This place seems like a nice place but its a racket. They got us for over 800 dollars in 2 months. They killed my cat and then charged me a ridiculous amount to put her down. Never taking another pet here to be murdered! read more

I had scheduled a dental cleaning and assessment that included my dog to be sedated the same day I took her in for a regular exam. Fast forward to the date of the dental appointment and I call in to let them know I am waiting outside and the receptionist tells me that she scheduled the appointment wrong. She scheduled it as a regular exam rather than a sedation and dental cleaning and assessment meaning that they won't be able to schedule her in for what she actually needs until 8 days from now. Mind you that on the day of her initial exam they said the assessment was needed soon but due to the receptionists mistake and lack of attention my puppy will now spend 2 weeks with a fractured tooth(s).
