Scout also known as Scoutski and Diddles...

We have been coming to Canal Vet for a while with all of our dogs. Today was the hardest day for our family. We had to put or 14 year old German Shepherd down. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I inquired about the process, Kristine was very helpful and called me a few times with details and what to expect. She also had to listen to me cry and was very empathetic.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We had no idea what to expect and watched and heard a few stories of how animals were put to rest. My husband, daughter and son in law attended this sad occasion with us. Before the appointment, we stopped next door at Star Bucks where the gal who took my order gave me a LARGE pup cup for Scout for free... at that point I started crying. The local high school was out so a bunch of teenagers witnessed us bawling while our dog devoured his whip cream like the good boy he was. [[HIGHLIGHT]]At the front desk, Julie graciously let us know they were ready but we weren't ready to let go yet and had 10 minutes before our appointment and she was very understanding.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Once we had to go into the room, Kristine explained the process to us and took Scout back to sedate him to make him comfortable and eventually go into a light sleep. Scout in true fashion, left them a poopy in the back room. When she brought him back to us, we got to spend time with him until he started to slump over. My husband laid him on the bed to rest. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Dr. Larson came in and explained he would be giving Scout his final shot and a few signs to look for. He also spoke with us about how lucky Scout was to have us and vice versa. He asked if we wanted a prayer and we did[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]... We love all of our dogs but Scout was my dog and sometimes we saw Dr Larson when he rode his bike on our daily walks. Once the doctor injected the final shot into Scouts catheter he took his last breath and passed. We were given time to say goodbye and they will be cremating him and giving him back to us in an urn they let me pick as a courtesy gift. I have never had a dog put down, usually they passed on their own. I can't recommend Canal Vet more if you have an elderly, sick or injured animal that needs to be put down. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Thank you to all the staff for their kindness today...[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Although i have only been going to Canal Vet for a couple months with my best friend Cash to be treated for chronic stomach and bowel issues that he had his whole life. Dr Heather was very kind and very helpful when treating Cash. I just wish we wouldve found Dr Heather sooner she would quite possibly have given me more time with my boy. Unfortunately Cash didnt respond to treatment due to how advanced and aggravated his condition had progressed. When a day comes where i get another best friend i guarantee that if Dr Heather and the wonderful caring staff at Canal Vet will have us as a patient i couldnt ask for anything more comforting to know how good we will be treated

Around 8pm on march 21st my cat started having trouble breathing and she started convulsing. She wasn't breathing until my brother would shake her to start breathing again. We rushed her to this emergency clinic but she sadly passed away in my brothers arms in the car just two minutes from the clinic. The team was fantastic. One of the members there who took my cat to the back let us stay there for as long as I needed and didn't judge me for crying loudly. My mother paid $600 in total for my beloved cat to be cremated and to have a clay print of her paws which in my opinion is a great price. About a week(ish) later we got to pick up her ashes and the clay print we were promised and I believe the team went above and beyond. I received a card with the team's signatures and a certificate of cremation.

Following a minor miscommunication regarding pricing from other staff members, an older employee became confrontational and began calling my husband names being racist to him!!. She even went as far as making inappropriate comments about our family and children. Regardless of any misunderstanding, there is never an excuse for staff to speak to clients in such a disrespectful and unprofessional manner. Instead of addressing the situation professionally and taking accountability for the confusion, the behavior we experienced was unacceptable. We entrusted this facility with the care of our pet and expected to be treated with courtesy and respect. Unfortunately, that was not the case. Based on our experience, I would not recommend this clinic to others who expect professionalism, respectful communication, and accountability from veterinary staff.

He once put back together our cat, Sissy, she got run over. The x-rays were just heartbreaking. She had 13 fractures most of which needed hardware fixation. I could not believe it could be done, but very amazingly, he put her all back together. Sissy was up and and returned to her normal sassy self . She was running around again in 2-3 weeks. Last week he got a foxtail out of my Bella ( 14 years old Terrier), just with local anesthesia. He even did a fluorescence exam of her eye to make sure there was no corneal ulcer. Dr Singh and staff explained all costs before taking Bella back. I know he could've opted to say she needed a general anesthesia and labs, but he wanted to put her through as little as possible given her age, not to mention the added cost that would be involved. The staff all loved on my Bella. Miss Bella, instead of wanting to go back to the car outside, was pulling me back to the surgical area, almost like she wanted to say bye and thank you to the entire team. Dr. Singh and everyone was so gentle. Knowing Bella's sweet nature, and everybody's compassion, i'm not surprised , because at this age, she usually never wants to leave my side. I work in healthcare and after 30 years, believe me I can instantly "smell" the difference between humane and ethical care versus profit as the more important interest. Through the life cycles of five different pets, I am eternally greatful to Dr. Singh and his staff for being that " Diamond in the rough," especially at a time when a profit mentality is taking over both the human and animal healthcare industry. In summary, he is a fantastic doctor with a fantastic team.

She stopped eating and was giving us those eyes that we have seen to often non the last year. I am sure Wesley was calling her to walk with him along the mystical canal. Bella. Also just short of 17 years. Not the most touchy feely girl. She came and laid down on the bed where Dr. Gary and I were sitting. All three are together now.

I said no, she already passed and I still had her body in my arms and was calling about cremation services and how much it would cost. The person on the other line went silent. I kept saying hello, hello for awhile, but realized they disconnected the call. We went to Cedar Veterinary instead and took her and paid for her cremation. Not a good way to handle a call after a person's pet has crossed the rainbow bridge.

We were in an incredibly painful situation, our dog had bitten our daughter in the face twice and needed to be euthanized for her safety. We had adopted him from a shelter, and finding a compassionate, affordable option was not easy. Shelters were at capacity, the SPCA quoted over $500, and other vets were similarly overpriced. We called Northpoint, received a price over the phone, and made the 45-minute drive from out of town, already emotionally drained. What we experienced once we arrived made a devastating day so much worse. First, upon arrival we were informed, for the first time, that we needed to bring paperwork from the shelter where we adopted our dog. No one mentioned this when we called. Staff attempted to contact the shelter themselves, said they couldn't reach them, and then told us they might not be able to help us at all. My husband had to get back in the car, drive to the shelter to retrieve immunization records, and return, adding significant time and stress to an already traumatic experience. Second, when we were finally seen, they quoted us a higher price than what we were given over the phone. They also attempted to add an urgent care fee, claiming we had been given an urgent appointment, which was not true. My husband had to push back just to get them to reconsider. When he mentioned the original price we were quoted by phone, staff told him there was nothing they could do. We were grieving. We were exhausted. We had already driven nearly an hour and a half round trip for paperwork. And Northpoint chose that moment to add surprise fees and dismiss our concerns entirely. It felt like they knew we had no other options and used that against us. I wouldn't wish this experience on any family already going through the pain of losing a pet. If you're in a similar situation, I'd encourage you to get everything, pricing and requirements, in writing before you make the trip.
