Dr. Heather took the best care of my daughter's dog than anywhere else . She was kind, understanding, explained things thoroughly to us, treated our Yorkie as if he was her own. I wanted her to be the Vet that would gently and lovingly lead our dog to the rainbow bridge. He had to be euthanized but, unfortunately, he didn't make it to her. I regret that to this day. When you have pets, sometimes accidents happen. Our dogs normally get along with one another but recently they got into a scuffle. Unfortunately the result was one of our dogs got a puncture wound on her front leg. We took her to Canal Vet for treatment. After an X-ray and wound care, our dog was given antibiotics and pain medicine to take at home. Within a few days our dog was feeling much better and walking without any evidence of pain or discomfort. We greatly appreciate the kindness and professional care our dog received. We have been coming to Canal Vet for a while with all of our dogs. Today was the hardest day for our family. We had to put or 14 year old German Shepherd down. When I inquired about the process, Kristine was very helpful and called me a few times with details and what to expect. She also had to listen to me cry and was very empathetic. We had no idea what to expect and watched and heard a few stories of how animals were put to rest. My husband, daughter and son in law attended this sad occasion with us. Before the appointment, we stopped next door at Star Bucks where the gal who took my order gave me a LARGE pup cup for Scout for free... at that point I started crying. The local high school was out so a bunch of teenagers witnessed us bawling while our dog devoured his whip cream like the good boy he was. At the front desk, Julie graciously let us know they were ready but we weren't ready to let go yet and had 10 minutes before our appointment and she was very understanding. Once we had to go into the room, Kristine explained the process to us and took Scout back to sedate him to make him comfortable and eventually go into a light sleep. Scout in true fashion, left them a poopy in the back room. When she brought him back to us, we got to spend time with him until he started to slump over. My husband laid him on the bed to rest. Dr. Larson came in and explained he would be giving Scout his final shot and a few signs to look for. He also spoke with us about how lucky Scout was to have us and vice versa. He asked if we wanted a prayer and we did... We love all of our dogs but Scout was my dog and sometimes we saw Dr Larson when he rode his bike on our daily walks. Once the doctor injected the final shot into Scouts catheter he took his last breath and passed. We were given time to say goodbye and they will be cremating him and giving him back to us in an urn they let me pick as a courtesy gift. I have never had a dog put down, usually they passed on their own. I can't recommend Canal Vet more if you have an elderly, sick or injured animal that needs to be put down. Although i have only been going to Canal Vet for a couple months with my best friend Cash to be treated for chronic stomach and bowel issues that he had his whole life. Dr Heather was very kind and very helpful when treating Cash. I just wish we wouldve found Dr Heather sooner she would quite possibly have given me more time with my boy. I've been coming here for about a year and half to Dr. Heather. Our dogs are spoiled and we bring them to Dr. Heather because Dr. Heather treat them like her babies too. I never worry when they come for teeth cleanings, or spay/neuter. For instance, Dr. Heather spayed our puppy yesterday and she's followed up several times to see if we need anything or how our puppy was doing. Last time our retriever ate a corncob and get it stuck, he had to go to an emergency vet... Dr. Heather made the transfer of care super easy and worked with the emergency vet to make sure he got the care he needed. The vet here (female) told me I had 3-6months left with my dog because he had heart failure. I'm so happy I trusted my gut and went to OAKDALE VET CLINIC and they diagnosed him with Addison's Disease. Which is treatable with monthly medication but FATAL if left untreated/undiagnosed. I wouldn't send anyone here. And the people I do know that get shots here and whatnot, I tell to go other places for more serious canine issues. They supposedly "sent in" blood samples and ran tests, but that would've shown his ACTH levels. I spent $700+ and got incorrect information. Horrible experience. I pray for all sick dogs that unknowingly go here. read more

I had a recent issue come up with my 19 year old small dog - kidney disease. I felt I needed to get a second opinion and just some more advice on the best next steps. Dr Hansen and the rest of the staff at Canal Vet were outstanding! The front office staff was friendly and welcoming. I was quickly taken into an examine room with my dog. The vet assistant asked relevant questions and took the time to listen to my concerns. Dr. Hansen was amazing! She spoke with me for over an hour - taking the time to really listen to, and discuss, all my concerns. She explained the blood work in enough detail to give me a good understanding of what was going on with my dog. We've been taking our dachshund Watson there for the past couple of years and COULDN'T be happier. Our dog has allergy issues and Canal has helped so much to try to fix them. I adopted a rescue with a missing foot. Usually tripods have their whole limb removed. Our little girl Star unfortunately was attacked by her mom at birth , and therefore had to have her foot removed to save her life (not at this vet, the rescue and their vet in Los banos did the foot amputation to save her life before we met or adopted her). when we finally got to meet this little miracle, she instantly became part of the family and we adopted her. Her leg slowly became visibly painful due to her trying to use it, but couldn't because of the the missing foot. We came to Canal Veterinary Hospital because we were told they were the best when it comes to animal care. We needed advice on what to do with her leg. They recommended full amputation , for several reasons. BEST doesn't even come close to describing how amazing the whole team is. They were responsive. Happy. Professional. And they did an amazing job on my little girls leg amputation. They allowed me to call as many times as I needed with questions and checking up on her. Every call I made was extreme positivity with the whole staff. Ive been in there several times and never once heard any animals in distress. Animals were happy to come in because they knew they were safe. My doggy star came out happy as can be ! And when she went in she had no hesitation. Everyone there took amazing care of her and treated us with the upmost respect and kindness. I won't disclose a price but they did an amazing job and the price was very very reasonable. In fact I had to double check that I wasn't under paying. Thanks to this amazing hospital , my girl star is only two days post surgery, and has been happier than ever ! The surgery has benefited her quality of life. I can't thank them enough for all they have done. They truly care about every animal and person that comes in. I was recommended to come here by my friend. I called for my moms 14 year old doggie and was able to drop her off via curbside within minutes. I received a call from the doctor and was able to get options for her healing process. I was not pushed to buy anything extra or add any extra exams for more $$. I was able to pick up my moms dog soon after the doctors call and left with medication and a plan to help her heal. I really felt like they cared for my moms doggie well-being and health. While I think the surgery and care was good. There was some mis -communication I guess I might be partially at fault. I called and made an appointment to get a cat spayed that I rescued. It was a feral cat. Maybe less than a year old. I intended on keeping her as a pet I even had them put a chip in her for that purpose. I could have gone to Turlock Spay and Neuter to get a reduced price but I didn't because I didn't want them to clip her ear. When I made the appointment I thought I had answered all the questions and all I needed to do was have my husband drop the cat off. They asked my husband if they could clip the ear and him not in the loop said yes. I really wished they would have contacted me. so disappointed this happened. read more

This was my first visit with canal vet and dr Lawson was so kind. He went over everything in detail and took his time with my dog who has a significant injury requiring surgery. I am so happy I took my fur babies to Canal Veterinary Hospital. They were amazing!

If I can put a ZERO, trust it would of!!!! This vet dont have any clue to what they are doing..took my dog to get inseminated on jan 26 and they have no clue or idea to when my dog will have her pups..first, dr.heather said my male was Iinfertile, and o he may have brucellosis after she injected my female with it, why would you do that!!! I took her for her ultrasound on march 18th and then dr.heather wants to tell me she had to be bred prior to jan 26 when I know in fact my dogs did not breed and even she said my male had no interest, now she is telling me that my female is further than the days she counted!!!! U have no clue in what u r doing...well I took her advice that my dog was infertile and now my yorkie is pregnant by him too...she should really keep her mouth close and stop assuming. She told us that she was able to do the surgery and to find out that they will be referring us out to have it done at a vet hospital..wtf!!! Anyways, she then said she was going to do another ultrasound on march 23rd and possibly cesarean on that day and so I question to as why because my dog would only be 55 days and if u have bred dogs before, u know they will not survive...the min I told her my yorkie was pregnant, she quickly recommended a cesarean too, its like, wtf u dont even know the size of my yorkie and quickly u want to jump on, she needs to have a cesarean instead of, why dont u bring her in so we can check her..it's all about the money, they dont give a dam!! Its all about money!!! So since I questioned too much and I didnt want her to have the surgery done at day 55 cause my pups will die for sure, they are kicking us out of there clinic, talking about we are putting there records together for u guys...bitch...please!!!!and to dr.larson who wanted to tell me that my dog was 59 days when in fact its 53 days, please!!! I trust Dr. Heather with my cats. I had a bad experience at a vet in Modesto and was pleasantly surprised at the difference in care we received here. I like that they are a smaller office and have a "family" feel. My mom and cousin take their cats here too, so they come with high recommendations. Dr. Heather's demeanor was very gentle. I also felt she was particularly thorough in her exam. I didn't feel rushed. She was knowledgeable and answered any questions I had. All in all she seems to be a good person who you can tell genuinely cares for animals. I had occasion to use the restroom here, which required me to walk through the back area of the hospital where they house all the animals, and I was pleased by the conditions in there. Not the horrible steel cages I was envisioning. I will be taking my older cat here for a teeth cleaning, so he'll get to experience the accommodations. Based on the care we've received with our kittens, I can go into it stress-free knowing he's in good hands. Prices are reasonable and wait times are short, too. I don't know where to begin. The Vet Dr. Heather has saved my dogs life multiple times! My puppy was on her last days and we couldn't figure out why... we went to 4 other vets in the area which unfortunately would have been thousands of dollars to house and diagnose. Heather was able diagnose My puppy Bella. Unfortunately Bella was born with a liver shunt and her body was rejecting protein. All other vets stated she wouldn't make it and it might had been parvo. They were all wrong!!!! It has been 4 months since Bella's last episode/seizure with the help of Dr. Heather and the staff and her instructions Bella will live a full life with proper care. The staff is excellent! I didn't feel rushed, they calmed me down and attended to her right away. I can admit I was not a dog person before Bella and now I see why people love there animals so much.
