I came here for lunch with a friend on a Thursday afternoon around 12:30 in January 2019. This was my 1st time dining at the market and at any Atwater's location, but my friend was a local and had been to the market before, and Atwater's was her favorite place to eat there. The eatery has 3 counters and seating areas where you can get table service if you dine-in. The counters included 1 that looked more like a traditional coffee/tea counter and 1 that sold baked goods such as breads and desserts. We got menus from an employee at the lunch counter, who pointed us in the direction of Atwater's seating areas. The place was pretty busy at the time so we had to look a bit for seats and got pretty lucky, as someone had just vacated 1 of the tables by the window, so we snagged that. A server came by to help us a few minutes later, and she was pretty quick throughout our meal. We both started with lavender vanilla lattes. They seemed to have a lot of syrup flavors and alternative milks on offer such as oat milk. The lattes came in 2 cute mugs with nice latte art, and were very tasty. My friend also ordered a ploughboy soup to start. It was served with bread in the soup as well as a side of bread. My friend said the bread was really good, as it was still pretty crunchy even though it was soaked in the soup. However, she didn't touch the side of bread, as it wound up being a bit too much for her. For mains, I ordered the chicken Scottish pie while my friend got the avocado toast. The pie was served with a side of greens. It was small and cute, and pretty packed with piping hot filling. I found the chicken to be a little on the dry side, but tasty overall. I probably wouldn't get it again, though, since a lot of other things on the menu looked like they might be better. Note that the greens come coated with a generous amount of dressing by default, although I'm sure you can ask to get it without. We split our bill down the middle and my half ended up being just over $20 after tax and a 20% tip. This was a bit on the expensive side for lunch, but since we'd gotten lattes it seemed reasonable. This place is such a cool spot to spend a day with friends, or have a fun date! Belvedere Square reminds me of Reading Terminal market in Philly, just on a smaller scale. Atwater's in particular has a deli-type area where you can purchase loaves and half loaves of bread, jellies and jams, as well as soups and sandwiches to go. I had a late lunch here with my parents when they were moving me into my new home in Baltimore. I'm so glad we found this place, because I will be bringing all my friends here! I started my meal with a peach ginger lemonade and my mom got the coffee, which smelled amazing. We opted for the half sandwich and cup of soup so we could try a little of everything. I went with the crab gazpacho because I was definitely in the mood for some seafood. For my sandwich, I chose the Montreal Brisket with horseradish cream, caramelized onions, and arugula on a raisin pumpernickel. I expected this sandwich to be hot because of the ingredients, but it was cold and I enjoyed it much more this way. It was so unique and unlike anything I've had in the past. The flavor combinations were perfect and really satiated my hunger. The greatest part of this food is that the bread is all made fresh in-house! Everything on the menu was so interesting and sounded so tasty. Before we left, we got a loaf of the kalamata olive bread to go. I have yet to be disappointed in an Atwater's location, and this is no exception. They have, generally, the same menu as other locations. I sat at the counter and had lunch one day while running some errands. I enjoyed a sandwich (wish I could remember what it was now, but I remember being in love with it!) and some cold black tea. The people working here are very friendly and talk to people sitting at the counter, which is nice. Pricewise everything fit perfectly for what I was looking for. I'd come back. Also, they sell their brownies to the nearby Prigel Ice Cream stand, and I recommend going over there for dessert and getting ice cream on top of one of those delicious Atwater's brownies - they are a hit. read more

One of my favorite Baltimore restaurants, fantastic soups and sandwiches. The muffaletta should ALWAYS be on the menu, but rarely is. It was perfect weather for a soy chai latte so I decided to try Atwater's. They serve Counter Culture coffee which I really like. I ordered my drink and paid for it, then saw the sign that they make their own pumpkin spice syrup! Well I had to add that to my drink so I asked the barista and he said that it's usually extra but not to worry about it. Thanks Mr. Barista! You are awesome and I was happy to leave more than usual tip :) My chai latte was so full of flavor. I just loved it. Oh Atwater's how I love your food. I was a regular when I lived in town and you are a must stop on my trips back to Baltimore... but today, a server of yours ruined my experience to the point that I was moved to review you... You see it's important that you keep your hustle tight as a server... that means that when you work a table full of elderly people for good tips that you not treat the other one that you're serving right next to it like you don't give a crap about them. "Hi, my name is Jen..." "Have any of you been here before?" "My favorites on the menu are..." "Might I suggest..." "Would you like cream and sugar with your coffee?" "You guys are like the cool glasses table... *fake giggle*"..." ...were all statements made to a table that was comprised of rich looking old people that sat behind us. My girlfriend and I were given a much different treatment. In fact, none of those phrases were uttered to us. Our experience opened after sitting at a table for 5 minutes unnoticed with, "you need a menu?" Then after another 4-5 minutes, we were handed menus and asked what drinks we wanted. At that point I thought our server was just having a bad day... When she dropped off my drink, I said that I was ready to order... but instead of being able to order my two soups and appetizer, she informed me, "Hold on, I have other tables right now." You see, my 10 second order would've taken too long to get... she came back 5 minutes later after the second drink was given to me by someone else, took the order and went away. A table of elderly people showed up next to us and were immediately treated to full conversation and warm fuzzies. They received all those quotes above and were given so much attention by her that I had time to pull out my smart phone, debate with my gf if I should take a picture of the server love they were getting, think about it some more and then take a picture of it. There was no waiting by them, and their orders weren't brushed off by needing to work "other tables." Our food was delivered by someone else; their food was delivered by Jennifer personally with extra comments and everything but a hug. Sure, she came over and coldly asked if "things were good," but then would immediately go back to hovering over them, offering salt and pepper and cream and sugar when the gf and I had to get our own. My gf, who is more level headed than I, and who wanted to go to Atwater's specifically after I told her how wonderful it was for her birthday lunch while we were in town (oh yeah there's that fact too) was pretty disgusted. Get your serving act together. Suck up to everyone on an equal level, or at least be smart enough to not suck up to only the tables of elderly people who look like they have money. I feel like we didn't have the look of tippers. Mainly because I dress as casually as possible all the time and my girlfriend was also dressed down to celebrate her birthday in a relaxing manner. Sadly, what could have been a really good tip, ended up being probably what your server assumed to be a self-fulfilling prophecy... On more than one occasion, my mild-mannered gf exclaimed "seriously?!?!" when listening to the over-the-top treatment the hopeful "big tippers," that Jenn was working. I was right there with her... Played hooky from work one Friday and planned to spend some quality time with my bed and four pillows but a friend bullied me out the house to come outside for lunch so I begrudgingly obliged only because it was free & I was hungry. I'm so glad I did! Atwater's has a small, intimate deli style feel and I liked how it was set off in the corner of the Belvedere Market so you can feel tucked away from the world. The customer service is EXCEPTIONAL! The three staff members were welcoming and knowledgeable about each and every selection on the menu and didn't have a problem making suggestions. They promptly and accurately fulfilled each request and when my friend wanted sourdough bread with his soup they even put a fresh loaf into the warmer just for us! The menu is just right for lunch, not too heavy but quite satisfying. They had an array of soups and they even catered to my indecisive tail by offering me sample cups of the different soups until I found something that delighted my palette. My friend enjoyed a large bowl of the blackeye pea & sausage soup and from the SEVERAL spoonfuls I got of it, it was very well flavored although for all the sausage flavor that it had, there wasn't much meat in it. I had the miso vegetable soup, which tasted great as a broth but the portabello mushrooms in it were a bit much and what you see in my picture is what I ended up not eating. I wasn't too sad about the soup because I devoured my Turkey Biscuit with pickled onions sandwich. The tastes came together BEAUTIFULLY! The pour-over looked great, smelled wonderful and was served promptly. The espresso was pulling a bit tangy with caramel, almond and chocolate notes. You know a place deserves 5 stars when you think about it, dream about it, and praise it effusively to friends who've never even been to Maryland. That's Atwater's for me. It was a frequent spot when I was at JHU, but it had been a few years since I'd been back. I was really afraid that with my lofty expectations, I'd experience a letdown, but it withstood my expectations (and maybe even surpassed them). The curried corn and shrimp soup was delicious. The best part of soups at Atwater's? Yes, they are tasty, but they are PACKED with ingredients. Almost stew like. I also got a half chicken salad sandwich, which has always been my favorite. Elevated chicken salad is how I'll describe it. And, just as an anecdote of the authenticity of Atwater's. The bread is delicious and it's fresh... no really... it's fresh. I remember one time when I was in college, I called Atwater's at 1 am, hoping to get an answering machine that would tell me what their hours were. Someone shockingly picked up the phone, and when I asked why they were open at 1 am, he said they weren't, but he was there making the bread. How amazing is that. Atwater's -- please move to SF! Outside of Red Emma's, I havent found a local, independent business that can quite match the taste of what I'm looking for, and Atwaters was able to execute flawlessly. Also came in on a day where they had their amazing apple pie on sale and was able to snatch that up to make my trip complete. I've been here a ton of times but I just ate the most delicious sandwich and have been inspired to finally review! It was the Vegetarian Reuben, and it was great. It had butternut squash, sauerkraut, pickled jalapeños, and thousand island cream cheese- really an excellent sandwich, I thought the squash instead of the corned beef was a good choice and it still tasted just like a Reuben. In the past I've had their excellent chicken salad (some of Baltimore's best chicken salad, in my opinion) and a few of the baked goods, always delicious. A favorite is the almond shortbread cookie with jam in the middle. The Belvedere location is easy to order at, with multiple counters going at the same time. It can take a few minutes to get your food, but that food is always worth it! read more

I'm been to the other Atwater's locaton in Catonsville, but I've only tried their baked goods, so I was excited to try the food during this visit. We tried the B.A.L.T (BLT with avocado on white bread) and two soups. The B.A.L.T. fell a bit short for us. It was mostly due to the fact that the bacon was more chewy than crisp, which ruined the integrity of the sandwich making it hard to eat this sandwich without everything spilling out. There was a nice amount of avocado in the sandwich though. The country white bread was nothing special; I wished that they had sliced the sandwich bread a itty bitty tad thicker. The soups outshone the sandwich by far. I tried the Eggplant Lemongrass soup (cup). SX is a chowder, creamy soups kinda guy so he made a beeline for the roasted pepper, leeks soup with crab and shrimp (bowl). The bowl portion is pretty hefty size. We both really loved the bread the soup came with. Beautifully hard and crisp crust with a tender, soft inside. Both soups were homey comfort soups. The only thign that was a bit "weird" was that SX's soup came with a topping of noodles. It was really hard to eat this noodles as they were quite long (not broken up so it would fit on a soup spoon), so it was a bit messy to eat. read more

Yo. We go here a lot. it's pretty much a tried and true place when you don't want Panera but you don't want to go to a sit-down restaurant, and you want to feel kind of healthy. Even when the market is crowded, we are always helped by an attentive worker, so I'm not sure where ya'll two star people are sitting. It isn't a restaurant, they have to see you in order to know you need menus, etc. You're not seated. If someone hasn't seen you, make yourself seen. I doubt anyone will scoff at you for it. Most people working there seem to enjoy their job, so I'm sure they aren't purposefully trying for a shit tip. Moving on - the menu changes all of the time which is awesome. I typically get half of a sandwich and soup. One time I had to say "hey where is my salad" and then it immediately came out. The turkey cranberry joint... yas. The bread is delicious, whether served as a side or for your sammich. We used to have a friend that worked here and she would bring home the leftover bread and I'm not sure how we weren't all 300 pounds. The draft selection rotates, their coffee selection is on point and their baristas know what they're doing. I'm typically too full for desserts but the selection is great and you see the people working there keeping a close eye on the bakery case to make sure things are presented well and they are well stocked. The ice cream is also fantastic; very interesting flavors. We love the marketplace and even if I'm feeling healthy and friends or fiance is feeling fried, that's fine too because the options are all right there and are excellent, we can still sit together, and then I can steal some of his fries. read more

I've been frequenting Atwater's at Belvedere Market since the weather turned cold and I've been craving hearty soups, the soup and sandwich selection changes several times per week and the daily menu is available to view on their site mid-morning. The interior of Belvedere Market has undergone a sort of redesign very recently, and Atwater's now has two counter areas where you can sit: along the bakery area where fresh coffee, pastries and sweets are available, and the Ploughboy Soups counter that is unchanged. Add this to all of the independent tables scattered about and there are plenty of spots to relax and enjoy whatever you're craving. Around noon the lunch crowd descends, be forewarned. What draws me back to Atwater's a few times per week are their new coffee offerings, as they've recently added pour over coffee to their menu, and a shiny new La Marzocco espresso machine to boot. I pick up their fresh whole bean Counter Culture selection for home as well. Oh, and the cheddar biscuit is my guilty pleasure. read more

Really good coffee bar inside a multi-store center. I don't really know how to describe it: it's a big place with a coffee area, grocery area, juice area, and some other counters. Atwater serves Counter Culture Coffee made correctly. They make a great cup and they have for-here mugs. Their latte art is on point, their espresso is solid as is their pour overs, and this is a pretty high end establishment. They also carry a variety of scones and baked goods. In this area, Atwater is clearly the best coffee shop. It's top tier, best you can get type of coffee. Parking might be a hassle because while they have an off-street lot, when I was there most of the market was closed and yet there was only one slot left for parking, which I took. Seating, I should mention, is at tables along the front windows or in the back of the space, which is somewhat dark. Whether you sit in the light or dark, it's not bad. But it can be cold in the winter! When I was there, I wanted to wear my jacket inside and I left quickly because i was so cold.
