I used to love this restaurant. Great food. I had parties for my kids there and planned to have another party there soon. Twenty year patron. Then I recently started noticing a fee for take-out containers on "to go" orders. I addressed this. I was told the containers can be reused. I'm going to a restaurant to eat - not a Tupperware store. I don't choose what containers a restaurant purchases. I'm saving you money when I do take-out. I went in on 12/8/17 for dine-in and noticed a credit card service fee for 1.5% of my check. I'M DONE WITH ATWOOD GRILL. If times are tough and these fees are going to be incurred for customers, then get out of the restaurant business. You lost my loyalty by assuming people will pay these fees. It's the principle of the matter. You're penny-pinching customers and that makes me wonder what else you're doing. I read a previous review where the owner replied by stating it costs him $4000 per month for customers to use their credit cards. That's the cost for doing business! You're soon going to turn away a lot of people! There's also a sign on the front door indicating they no longer take pre-paid cards. I'll take my business to Pat's and Luigi's. Imagine, a fee for takeout containers, a fee to use your credit card. What other cost-cutting tactics are happening in the kitchen? Realign your priorities and get it together. We live in a world where most people don't carry cash and we're choosing your business over others. To see such ridiculous fees makes me think you're now in the business for something else entirely and customers don't matter. I don't have to wonder, see, because I'll never walk in there again. Just read another comment where the owner is explaining the card fee. He blames the banks. He goes on to say how business like his pay for credit card users free miles and money back on some credit cards. Buddy, you don't deserve to be in business anymore. Oy....since this is an Italian Restaurant, I guess one should order pasta. I had salmon and I think it was just a codfish in disguise. Salmon is not a fishy fish, but this one reeked of fish. It was so bland, but they glopped on some fake garlic butter on top that was supposed to help make the fish delectible....didn't work. Oven potatoes were bland, as were the green beans...cold, also. But the bread was good! My daughter had a baked seafood platter and, except for the baked stuffed shrimp, was overcooked and bland. Doubt I'll return. read more

Went there with my mom for a quick lunch. Waited 30 minutes for two sandwiches. The restaurant was far from full. No one came to offer us a snack or an explanation. My wife and grandkids are frequent diners at Atwood's. Best food selection in RI and great portions of tasty food. Soup and salad with some of the best bread is a starter. Always have to box up what we don't eat, like always, for a great snack later or the next day. The wait servers are tops. Wow - I agree with Joe C's review from 1/23/19. A few of my older colleagues absolutely RAVE about this place. Must be stellar, right? Eh. I will say, the portions are incredible. Great deals, for sure! However, the quality of the food was mostly mediocre. I won't say I didn't like my meals each time, but I always leave slightly disappointed. I can't put my finger on it. There's always a long wait, but doesn't always feel worth it. The sangria is absolutely delicious, one of the best I've ever had. Customer service is always fantastic, servers and bar tenders are super friendly! I am disappointed to see the owner's response to Joe C's review and quite honestly makes me question if I want to go back and support someone who responds in such a manner. This place is definitely an institution and I'm sure will be a around for many many years. I just hope the food gets a tiny bit better. I'll probably try it a few more times. read more

Just NO. Been here a few times, with different people, on different days of the week. There was no wait to be seated and the food was good but the service was poor enough each time that I won't return. Each time, I waited almost 30 minutes for drinks (sodas and water) and then an additional hour+ for the food. When we wanted to cash out, it was another 25 minutes after we received the check. The staff didn't check on us for refills or anything. This is the case on weeknights and weekends. It made me, my family and friends rather uncomfortable as we felt almost deliberately ignored. I went to eat at Atwood Grill tonight 7/22/08 @ 9:30pm with a friend. I ordered the surf and turf. The baked stuffed shrimp where small and there where three of them. I ate one and noticed a strange taste. The next stuffed shrimp really seamed to be foul so I spit it out. I then took the stuffing off of the shrimp only to reveal the pungent smell from the shrimp! I told the waitress about it, she said nothing and walked away with the plate. She came back 10 minutes later and said they took the surf part off of my check and I would only pay for the steak. I said that it was fine... I just did not want to be sick. As everyone knows.. bad seafood can really make you sick. I find it hard to believe that anyone cooking it could not smell that the shrimp was foul. I was very disgusted by first the fact that the shrimp smelled like sewage, second, the manager never came by to apologize or ask how they could make it right and third that they had the nerve to charge me anything at all for the dish! I do not recommend Atwood Grill to anyone... and if you feel like playing Russian roulette with you health then maybe you would give this place a shot! My next stop is a phone call to the health department... this place needs a checkup! read more

I can almost deal with mediocre food, and it is mediocre at best. Poor service however is unacceptable. It was everyone from the hostess, who for sure didn't greet us with any sense of urgency or welcoming manner. We waited a good 15 minutes before the waitress decided to acknowledge us. Very poor service here. The staff is rude and unfriendly. The last time I ordered take out and got the soup. When my boyfriend picked it up and brought it home the soup wasn't in there. When I called to tell them they forgot my soup they said I wasn't charged which I knew was a lie because I had my receipt. She kept saying that I wasn't charged and giving attitude until I basically forced her to get a copy of the receipt in which she admitted I was charged! Got a free soup voucher, woo. Soda and Tea are penny's to serve so to keep charging for them is crazy. It just shows they are all about getting the most money out of the customers as they can. Maybe because most people wont come back. The service was good but they added a 18% GRATUITY I know some places do this if it is a group of 6 or more. There was just 2 of us. Then when sat our server, if you can even call her one, walked by our table a few times without even acknowledging we were there. When she finally came over the menus were filthy and stuck together so I wasn't able to see if there was a drink menu. When I asked her for one she grabbed my menu and separated the page and pointed to it as if i was bothering her. She checked our id's because we looked young which is fine but she walked away with them without telling us where she was going and when she came back we informed her we were leaving. The food was very good: salad, ziti w/marinara & ziti w/pink vodka sauce ("YUM!"), Chicken Marsala, Baked Scrod [haddock/cod], veggies/potatoes (& a beef dish that I was too full to eat.) The Salad was good, the pasta/ziti dishes were actually GREAT = cooked AL DENTE!! (which is a shock especially when large quantities are cooked for family style parties!), the Chicken Marsala was good, the baked scrod was good except for a few bites that were a little "bitter" as it seems there was a little too much paprika which can leave a bitter taste. The crusty bread was great. The only inconvenience was that there didn't seem to be waitstaff to take drink orders, so we had to go up to the bar to order drinks & carry them back to the party room. Brought a guest to lunch on a Monday. The restaurant was not crowded. We were greeted by a friendly hostess and the waitress was nice too. We ordered our food and it took a long time to come to our table. My seafood pasta dish sat at the pickup counter, as I could see it from our table. The food finally arrived. The portions are generous. Mine was room temperature at best but my guest's cod was hot and tasty. I told the waitress and she asked several times to heat up mine again. I said no thank you. During our wait we saw a beautiful cheesecake go by with giant fresh strawberries on it. Our waitress kept walking by but did not return to ask us if we wanted more coffee so we tracked her down and ordered more coffee and the strawberry cheesecake. Our dessert arrived. The cheesecake was not fresh and had small cut canned strawberries on it. We left our money with a too generous tip. Will NOT return. read more

The staff is nice, but sometimes you wait longer than you should to get your meal. I like the ambiance of the place, which is a bit dim. Inside is nicely set up and pretty. Join their birthday club! Just so you know, you will be dining with all AARP members, so if you plan to bring kids, know you will get some looks in your general direction from the patrons! They ahve pretty good food and huge portions. We usually go for lunch on the weekend and get the potroast or half chicken special. It comes with soup, salad, pasta, pot roast, veggies (bleh) and mashed potatoes. It is plenty of food to share with someone. Took my girlfriend and her grandparents here as she told me it was their favorite Italian restaurant and would help me make a good impression. Pulling into the parking lot, the place look more like a run-down diner, and that impression carried on inside. My gf's grandpa commented that it was the best Italian restaurant around and that they had been there for years. I'm thinking that the place has more popularity with a certain generation of people. The majority of the customers were "older" people. The server was pretty quick and was someone who my girlfriend's grandparents knew. They were ready with what they wanted to order, but it took me some time wading through the menu, which is huge. Specialities of the house that run to 5 or 6 dishes, plus over a dozen chicken specialities?! I chose the chicken saltimbocca, which was okay, although I thought the price was a little high when for what I got. The service of the food from the kitchen may have been a little slow as the temperature of the food was just the right side of warm. If it had been a few minutes later my food would have been cold. Atwood Grill is not a place I would be rushing back to anytime soon as I am sure there are better Italian restaurants nearby. read more
