When I'm home in RI I always like to have foods that remind me of my childhood. Johnny Cakes are hard to find in restaurants these days. They're delightful cornmeal pancakes typically served with butter, maple syrup and a little powdered sugar. The place where I used to get them for most of my life unfortunately closed a few years ago. But I have a new place to get them and that is Johnnys Chalet. Johnny's opened is 2021, but the family that runs the restaurant have owned others around the state for many years. They seem to know the things that make RI food special, which I appreciate. The place has the feel of a classic diner with a lot of homage to the 1950ms and 60's. It's very clean and welcoming, plus it was still decorated very festively for the holidays. The service was good and we felt well taken care of. The food here is comforting and reminded me very much of my childhood. The Johnny cakes had a nice, light texture and were delicious with butter and maple syrup. I also had eggs, sausage, really good bacon, plus their house made Italian bread. My wife had a veggie omelette, which she really enjoyed. All in all, this is an excellent place and they have many options on their menu. I will definitely try to come back and try more of their food while I'm in town. read more

This place continues to be outstanding and very filling. Today I tried the Mommas Sandwich which includes shaved ham, scrambled eggs and cheese inside a HUGE home made croissant. This comes with red potato home fries (which I normally do not care for) that were fabulous. Although all the prices end at Ninety nine cents, they are reasonable considering how much you receive. Maybe it was an off day. It was my first time here, and I heard a lot of good reviews, and I was looking forward to trying it. It was steady, not busy, but maybe there was a rush before we came. There were several empty tables. But it took at least 15 minutes to get waters, then 30-45 minutes for the food. I had the wrap, meh, it was okay. I wouldn't order it again or recommend it. The server was friendly and apologized when we left, saying she knows she didn't give us good service. We went to the counter to pay because we never received a check. Between the service and meh food, I wouldn't go again or recommend this place. Even the young bus girl was rude as we were paying she kept reaching around us and throwing out trash, instead of saying excuse me or waiting the two minutes it took to run our card and sign the receipt. Oh! And the cleanliness, the tables, floors, chairs, it was really dirty. A table came in sat next to us and left cause the table was set up for service but dirty, Our table too had food on it. Came here in between my sons double header baseball game as we are NEVER in this area. It's in a strip Mall and next to a Dunkin. We were contemplating Dunkin' Donuts or this place and figure we would check this out. The menu has a good variety of items! From some unique French toasts like crispy French toast to Belgian waffles and everything in between. I decided to try the bacon and eggs special & a coffee and my husband got the same. The bacon is that thick cut bacon- that was cooked to absolute PERFECTION! Delicious- I would definitely recommend getting the bacon- if you're a fan!! It was DELICIOUS! Especially the bacon. Some breakfast places just hit different and this is one of them- that makes an AMAZING breakfast. It was 11 am on a Sunday and the pace was nearly packed- including the bar! I had to come amend my review. The first time we went it wasn't busy and we had a great experience. The second and third time we went - not so great. The 4th and last time we went was so bad I'll never go again. Super terrible and slow service. And my daughter is gluten and dairy intolerant and they kept bringing her bread with butter even though I kept specifying not to. And the 2nd time I sent it back another waitress came out and lectured us it wasn't butter but grilled so looked like butter (but if grilled on buttered grill then still butter!!! ). She got super pissy and rude with us and said 'next time be certain!' except how was it our fault the first waitress didn't know and still the grill had butter! I've never been spoken to like this in any business in my entire life and still THEY WERE WRONG. Next: I had eggs and potatoes and sausage. Well clearly the sausage wasn't cooked right because I then had food poisoning for 16 hours, until 4am the next day, hurling my guts up. As that meal was the only one I'd had since waking up and nothing after before getting the food poisoning it was def that. We'll never ever go back. read more

I am always looking for a great diner for a fresh, delicious breakfast. I found Johnny's Chalet near the airport and it did not disappoint! It's got a great vibe with tables and a counter. It was clean, classic, local diner decor and some good tunes. The counter service was attentive. Coffee (decaf) was above average. I made my own version of a Greek Omelette, a side of think bacon and a single pancake. Everything was great and the price was right. Found the Chalet on Yelp when looking for a good breakfast sandwich. Called in our order for two bacon, egg and cheese on rye. Said they'd be ready in 15 minutes but we got there in about 5 and they were just about ready. Generously sized and very tasty - especially the bacon which was better than average. So we decided to go back for a sit down breakfast the following week. My (home made) corned beef hash and Swiss omelet was wonderful and my wife's Athenian Benny was also very good. The hash browns had an unusual taste... I thought maybe a little chourico. Not my favorite but I'm sure they are popular. Overall, generous portions of quality food. This place was a one and done for me. He ordered a chalet burger and I ordered a Italian sub with 2 sodas He just changed the cheese to American instead of provolone. Got an up charge of .75¢ and the amounts on the burger and sub were charged 50¢ more than the listed price on the menu. $3.00 + per soda. Burger just dripped grease and my sub was dripping with dressing. We both only ate half of each and I brought the rest home and gave it to the chickens. Server was not on her game, maybe she was tired and cranky after serving breakfast on the weekend, who knows? Asked for extra napkins never got them, then proceeded to plop down the to go containers and the bill at the same time and then never saw her again. The other server gave me my change back, So bottom line $36 plus tip for a lunch that sucked , well that was it for me. So many other great places to go for lunch instead. read more

On the menu, a burger with mushrooms, bacon, and blue cheese. And cooked to perfection. This is exactly the place you hope it is. It's not what you expect when you walk in. From the outside and the sign it's very new and hip and you think it's gonna be filled with hipsters working the counter. But it's the complete opposite. The inside looks like a 1967 farm house with the wooden beams and red rug on the benches. I was definitely worried about the food by the way it looked. I was completely wrong. The food is absolutely amazing, we got chocolate chip banana pancakes and a pulled pork omelette. Both simply amazing, and for the pancakes just to be regular pancakes they were so fluffy and melt in your mouth. The omelette "forget about it" I finished the entire thing, the meat was so tender I could of ate it by itself. The home fries were good, but if you want them more crispy you gotta ask. I'll definitely come here again, possibly try lunch. My only negative review is they need to update their website. Excellent Saturday morning breakfast. We almost drove off when we saw how packed the lot was ,and the line inside the door.
