I had an appointment, and they knew my dog was coming, but I was asked while checking in if I needed heartworm and flea meds even though they are prescribed at Griffiths and in his notes. So I don't know why they asked. Unfortunately, my partner had to take our dog back the next day, and he was asked the same question - also had an appointment and they were expecting him. Please reconsider upselling people who already get their meds from you, especially if their animal is in distress. Edit: I have not used all of the last prescription I purchased from Griffiths. A quick review of my dog's info would have shown that I did not need more. read more

Dr. Pagel was great, as well, nice demeanor with my pup, answered my questions, and relieved me of the concerns. Re: Online Pharmacy Ordering prescriptions online is a hassle. They use a third party vendor for their pharmacy called Covetrus. I ordered $200 worth of Trifexis online through USPS with a tracking number. The tracking number said it was delivered but I never received the shipment. You'd think for $200, they'd at least use UPS, FedEx, or require a signature. I even waited in line at the post office for one hour and fifteen minutes, and they still couldn't find my package. I emailed Laura and she said to call the pharmacy. The pharmacy said they would reship at no additional charge. Then Cynthia went ahead and declined the authorization. No communication from Laura in my file about lost prescriptions in the mail. Thanks a lot, Cynthia. Then I received an email from the pharmacy saying the original shipment was delivered. I never received my package! I finally received my package on my porch, three days after it said it was delivered. Not worth my time of trying to save $59 by ordering online! read more

I cannot praise this practice enough. I recently moved my Doxie boys to Dr. Kelly at Griffith. We had been going to a large volume clinic where it was almost impossible to get an appointment because they do not limit their numbers and we never got to see the same vet twice. Griffith's culture is exactly what pet parents want in a partnership of health of our babies. The front desk is friendly and accommodating, the techs are wonderful (thanks Ellen) and they are very gentle in the examinations and care. The prices are steep, for sure when one is on a fixed income, but I love the care received. read more

Dr. Griffith was our vet for decades, from my childhood pets to my dog and eventually our family dog. I've lived all over Austin and we always made the drive for him, but I immediately got bad vibes after he retired. We took our younger dog in who is prone to anxiety and they put her in a muzzle. Apparently she had bit a tech once. When? No idea, because they never told me about it. Dr. Griffith never muzzled her, but suddenly they were telling me it was for her safety and theirs. I left furious, and never went back. We finally made the formal switch to a new vet, and they are a fear free facility. She did so well there! I'm only sorry I didn't walk out the second they tried to muzzle her. If your pet is prone to anxiety I would try another vet, because chances are they will only traumatize your pet more. read more

I wish I could give ZERO stars!!!!! I'm not even sure where to start with this place. After 5 visits, over the course of a few months, my dog's misdiagnosed ear infection turned into a full blown chronic skin infection causing her to lose over 50% of her hair. With every revisit, we were given bandaids for the sypmtoms and told "it's allergies", even with her symptoms getting worse and worse with each visit. I had to research and help them try to diagonse my dog (RED FLAG). They even did a ear cytology that showed bacteria in her ear and they did not treat it correctly. With every bandaid, I reported to the "vets" that nothing changed and that her symptoms progessively got worse. I was still told that it was "allergies" and that we'd have to wait 3+ months for the hypoallergatic food to work AND to get a dermologist appointment. My dog would've been 100% hairless if I had done that. Thankfully, I found a different vet and got a 2nd opinion. After only a week on a new antibotic, she began to show signs of healing. The management here is 100% a joke. I was VERY alarmed to read reviews from past employees about their experiences. I called 3 times over the course of 1.5 weeks to talk with management about a refund, only to be told today that they "don't do refunds". Every phone call started with me repeating all of my frustrations (no one there communicates or writes anything down apparently...) They completely neglected to help my dog or provide me with proper information. They conducted pointless tests, like testing for mites even though my dog is on Simpartica Trio and the chance of her having mites was basically 0%. They showed absolutely ZERO care or remorse for my dog's worsening condition. Every visit felt extremly rushed and lacking of information as to why this could be happening... news flash.. it's not her food. Now we are on a very $$$ food that restricts her from all treats. I think my dog is in love with Dr. Kelly. Everyone was great and thorough. I really appreciate that they had seasoned techs and front office staff, the tech for my room has been there since 2017. As a former LVT, I can tell you that is unusual to have that type of retention in veterinary medicine. My family has been coming here for years, I wish I had taken their recommendation sooner. My dogs loved the staff and I feel that they must have taken Fear Free training as my dogs loved the attention and treats and actually tried to follow the doctor into the back! Also appreciated the use of yoga mats for the exam table, such a nice touch. Great location and facility. Thank you for seeing us, we shall return! read more

This clinic has gone downhill. Dr Griffith retired and every visit since is more chaotic than the last. I heard excuses due to staff shortage but when my main concern is the level of care, then excuses are unacceptable. The clinic seems over whelmed and unorganized. -When my dog was a puppy, they gave the wrong vaccination. I have given this clinic several chances to improve. -The prices they quoted are not what I was billed. I will be looking for a new vet asap. read more

unfortunately, my experiences at Griffith Small Animal Hospital have gotten significantly worse ever since Dr. Griffith retired and left the practice. Zero contact about upcoming vaccine expirations. After my dog had multiple teeth pulled and the vet, vet tech, and receptionist all told me I would have a live conversation to receive detailed care instructions, I was instead given a piece of paper and told there was no one there to answer any questions or walk me through the steps. I later discovered that the expiration dates on my medicine were listed incorrectly on the prescription from the vet. Their label said expires 5/2024, but the medicine inside showed an expiration date of 11/2023. The lack of care shown could result in providing pets with expired and therefore ineffective antibiotics after extreme procedures. I unfortunately feel a sense of carelessness and disorganization every time I bring my beloved dog here. read more

Why has nobody else jumped on the Yelp bandwagon for Griffith? I've seen Dr. Boggs for three of my ferrets, and she has been so kind and compassionate, I would recommend her to anybody. She has come in to the office on her day off, she has returned phone calls to me on her day off, she has made extraordinary allowances for a financially distressing situation, she has gone way above and beyond the call of duty to ensure my pets' health and well-being. She takes the time to really listen to my concerns, and to explain everything. She's particularly gentle and understanding of a pet owner's grief when she has to deliver unpleasant news. She presents all possible options and explains the pros and cons of each one so you can make an informed decision. Griffith Small Animal Hospital isn't really convenient for me, but I will continue to take my animals there because of the very high quality of the service and the depth of knowledge they've shared with me. read more

We quit this vet when they burned our dog on a heating pad after surgery. This was many years ago and different staff, but as far as I know same ownership. They would not admit it to us but did to the vet dermatologist we consulted in horror who told us it was a burn. They agreed to cover the specialist's charges but would not refund or even discount our original bill, and specifically refused any sort of consequence for the tech who mishandled the dog. Go to Northwest on Dry Creek or North Austin on Burnet--much higher honesty and integrity. read more

She cares as much about their care as I do, is familiar with the latest ferret veterinary research, and makes thoughtful suggestions about what I should do with the information we have. I have been taking my two pups here for years, and have had nothing but great service. I don't feel as if they are trying to up-charge me on unnecessary testing, and they actually spend a substantial amount of time with my pet during examinations. While all of the vets have been amazing, my usual vet Dr. Matt Slentz is one of the most attentive and caring veterinarian's I have ever met. One of my little pups has had a series of medical issues due to cystine stones, and Dr. Slentz has gone above and beyond to help my pup. Dr. Slentz went out of his way in contacting dietitians and medical physicians who specialize in bladder stones in order to inform me of the best treatment and dietary options for my dog. I can attest this is one of best vets in Austin. read more

Our previous vet gave us a dire cancer diagnosis for our little Chihuahua, Buttercup, and told us she was about to die. We paid over $1000 for that diagnosis. Six months later and our little girl was doing fine and no explanation or attempt to figure out exactly what was wrong with our dog, no offer of any discount for the misdiagnosis, nothing; they completely glossed it over. So I decided to find another vet and got a referral then to Dr. Griffith from another very satisfied customer. We took Buttercup to GSAH and they ran essentially the same tests for a lot less money and said they couldn't find anything wrong. We have been very happy with their thorough, timely and friendly service. Buttercup is older and does have liver issues, but Dr. Griffith and his staff are managing them quite well. I am so grateful for the entire staff at Griffith Small Animal Hospital on Northland. We have an older pekingese who has had some serious health scares and Dr. Boggs and the ENTIRE team at Griffith have always been so willing to accommodate us and given impeccable care to our dog. Late one night about 20 months ago Revy, the old Peke, took a quick turn for the worse. Dr. Boggs was able to see him the next day. The outlook was pretty grim. Dr. Boggs gave us a fair and balanced range of options from the "do nothing and make him comfortable until he passes" all the way to" go to A&M tonight where they have the finest equipment available." We ultimately took the option to ask Dr. Boggs to do the surgery immediately. Not only did Revy make it through the surgery, which was dubious at best, but he made a full recovery and is quite happy. Dr. Boggs and Griffith Team live up to the reputation of giving excellent care to both the pet and the owner. I could not ask for a better place to take my babies. The facility is very clean and the staff is perfectly polite and kind. read more

Dr. Nilson was great. I can't say enough about her. My kitty loved her, and she was very friendly and helpful. However, I have to say I'm a bit peeved with her staff. My cat was not feeling well at all, and they were supposed to call the pharmacy about some meds for him. Turns out they never called, so my cat had to suffer longer while I waited for the script to be filled. I don't want that to dissuade anyone from going to Griffith Small Animal Hospital. Dr. Nilson was great, and for the most part her staff was helpful and nice. I'm just annoyed about having to wait another day for antibiotics for my sick pet because they forgot to call the script in. read more

I take my two dogs to Dr. Boggs and it's always been a pleasant experience. The staff here is very friendly and my Frenchie and Boston Terrior love coming here because the staff is constantly showering them with attention. I do agree that I always get a little shocked when we get the bill during check-out, but that's the price you pay for having a dog and that's what pet insurance is for! There is no way I will ever switch vets because Dr. Boggs has been seeing my two dogs since they were small little puppies so she has their full history which is extremely important to me. read more

I took my Maine Coon here after she got fleas from my grandmother's dachshund (after Frontline STOPPED WORKING for both of them this year!). I got a next-day appointment with Dr. Krueger who was absolutely wonderful and has had a Maine Coon before and knew the ins and outs of their behavior. The hospital is very clean, does not reek of "pet," and has a waiting area full of terrifying stuff to think about and read while waiting to see the vet. The staff and admin are, for the most part, very helpful and sweet and offer their advice as best as they can. (Any advice about how to clean your house after a flea infestation is great) Dr. Krueger and her vet tech were extremely gentle and sweet with my girl (who of course was very concerned about where she was) and gave great advice while listening to my concerns. The only ouch about this place is the price, ($50/exam) but it's well worth the attention. read more

When i had a very sick dog, who eventually passed away due to his illness, this was the ONLY clinic i visited who actually diagnosed him. It was just too late by the time they did. I visited at least 4 other clinics and even the fancy expensive specialty hospital in town. Even they let us & our dog down. Dr Wheeler, even after she had turned over our dog's care to the specialty hospital, never gave up trying to diagnose him, and she eventually did. When he passed away, they made a donation to an animal non profit in his name and mailed it to our house. I will always always always trust them whenever my dogs are sick. They couldnt save Rusty, but they tried harder than anyone else. THAT is what you want in a vet - forget any thing else. read more

I recommend going somewhere else if you're needing PennHip or OFA x rays done. The radiographs performed on a sedated dog were poorly positioned and Dr. Boggs, the only vet that does that it seems, gets defensive and unprofessional when that is pointed out. I was thinking of switching my personal and in-training dogs to this clinic (which varies from 12-20 dogs) because I adored the sweet tech and nice front desk, but the vet left a very bad taste in my mouth, so that won't be happening. Dr. Boggs is completely satisfied with her work, and tells me to go somewhere else. We have many vets in Austin, and you can do better for your fur family! read more

I am a particular fan of Dr. Skyler at Griffith Animal Clinic. We have a fabulous labrador retriever - but he has been a bit challenging from a medical perspective! Dr. Skyler is the FIRST (from a long line) vet that has been assertive and aggressive in treating our dog. She has been amazing at troubleshooting and diagnosing his issues! And, she is also responsible for putting him on a diet, causing him to lose weight and totally change his life! I am so, so thankful to Dr. Skyler for maximizing our dogs quality of life and giving me hope that he will live a long and happy life. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I am forever grateful. After visiting 2 different stores and still coming up short and called HEB to transfer it. They then asked me to call since they had been on hold for almost 30 minutes. We have probably been clients at this clinic for about 30 years. Since COVID their service has diminished and their attitudes along with it. Had appointment recently and needed to bring our pet back in for a test. Dr. Wheeler said it would be Monday but on arrival the office staff said we didn't have an appointment. This is not the first issue we have had in the past year. I have given them 5 star reviews in the past but one of the main issues I have this past year is they don't answer their phone, they don't return phone calls, they want you to text or email but sometimes don't respond to those or take days to respond. The decline in customer service shows a need to have a good office manager to make sure they are taking care of the customers. They are expensive but I always pay my bills and even have additional tests run as my main concern is the health of my pets. I hope they make an effort to make improvements in their practice or I will need to look for another clinic. read more
