Honnas Veterinary Clinic has been a reliable and convenient option for my pet care needs. One of the things I really appreciate is how easy it is to park right in front of the clinic for free -- a small detail, but it makes a big difference when trying to get in and out quickly, especially with a pet in tow. Scheduling appointments is also incredibly easy and flexible, and I love that they are open seven days a week, 365 days a year. That kind of availability gives me real peace of mind, especially in emergency situations. Another big plus is that they don't charge an exam fee, which is rare and refreshing. The clinic itself is very clean, with plenty of exam rooms, so I've never had to wait long once I arrive. The technicians and veterinarians are all very knowledgeable, kind, and helpful, and I've really appreciated their willingness to assist with things like administering medications when I've had trouble doing it myself. That said, the main downside is the cost of services. While the lack of an exam fee is great, many other services tend to be significantly more expensive than at other veterinary clinics. For example, I recently brought my cat in for a fecal sample -- something that usually costs around $50-$60 elsewhere -- and was surprised when the bill came out to nearly $160, and that was without any medication. It feels like the higher pricing on services is likely meant to balance out the waived exam fee. Because of this, I'll definitely continue using Honnas for emergency situations and urgent care, especially given their year-round availability and excellent staff. However, for routine care and standard procedures, I'll likely stick with my regular vet, where the pricing tends to be more predictable and budget-friendly.

My first experience with Honnas was during an animal crisis. Last year, when I was introducing my dog to my boyfriend's dog got into a fight. In a panic, my boyfriend drove to the only vet nearby that was open on a Sunday night. I called ahead to let them know [boyfriend's name] was on his way feeling nervous and scared while I stayed back to check on the other dog. As soon as he walked in, the receptionist said, [boyfriend's name]?? Kristy called ahead and explained everything. Honna's bedside manner is 10/10. He felt such relief from such an awful night thanks to Honnas and their staff. They were so loving and nurturing to the dog we brought, who needed an emergency tooth extracted. I really appreciated the staff breaking some of the tension by joking around how the tooth's roots looked like a dinosaur tooth. It helped us get out of our heads from the sudden animal emergency. My boyfriend's parents later arrived and the staff was so informative and warm to his parents too. They answered ALL of our questions and shared what signs to look for if we needed to come back. We've continued to go Honnas since then. I've been there a total of 3 times taking all of our dogs for standard checks up as well. They answer every one of my questions without me feeling rushed. They are our go-to vet. And omg, the interior design is incredible. They have couches in every patient room, so my dogs are extra comfortable. Big bonus points for having such extensive hours and days - makes it so easy to bring the pups here! I REALLY APPRECIATE Y'ALL, PLEASE DONT EVER CHANGE.

We couldn't be happier with Honnas Veterinary! Zach and the entire team are incredibly knowledgeable, caring, and patient. As new puppy parents, they always make us feel at ease and give us complete peace of mind.

The cat exam room is so welcoming.

We recently moved to Austin area and were nervous to find a vet for our two cats. We found Honnas and were impressed with their beautiful exam rooms and loved that it's a woman owned and run business. During our visits they offered free exams which was a life saver! Incredibly friendly and fast staff, who took great care of Juice and Mimosa. 10/10 would recommend and feel very lucky to have found such an epic vet.

My usual vet, who we have been seeing since adopting the cat almost 2 years ago, rudely dismissed my concerns over the phone and insisted that I needed to pay an $80 office visit fee just to get an answer to my question over the phone (the question was "What does the PCR panel test for?"). I started calling every other vet in Austin to find a clinic that has experience with Tritrichomonas and that I felt comfortable with. Several clinics admitted that they did not know what the parasite was or had never treated it before. Another lied and said "oh, that is super easy to treat and really common and straightforward!" which I knew was not accurate from the empirical literature online. I finally found Austin Urban Vet and the experience we have had so far has genuinely been night and day different from pervious clinics. From the very first call, the AUV team was empathetic to our situation, VERY transparent about pricing (they provided it in writing), and explicitly clear about which PCR diagnostic panel they use at AUV and exactly what it tests for. They were open and honest about their experience with Tritrichomonas and I immediately felt at ease and confident in the care that they could provide my cat. After chatting with my partner about my findings from calling almost every vet in Austin, we both agreed Austin Urban Vet was the best one to move forward with, so we made an appointment. Right off the bat, I was happy to find that AUV has a private parking lot (for free!). I headed inside with my cat and the team at the front desk was so kind and helpful. They quickly checked me in and invited me to grab a bottle of water or make myself a cup of coffee as I waited for the tech to take us into the room. We waited for maybe ~5 minutes before the tech took us to the exam room, where she scanned my cat for her microchip, weighed her, and asked questions about the presenting problem, history, etc. Dr. Helen was who attended us for the exam itself, and she was so kind and thorough. I really felt that she was providing genuine feedback, and she was honest about her experience with this parasite. She was transparent about the treatment plan and let me know her general thoughts (Ie., "If she is still positive, we will do X. If she is negative, we can try Y.") We are now waiting for the PCR results, but so far, I am so happy with our experience and feel confident that Dr. Helen will provide us with the best care possible.

SOUTH PARK ANIMAL HOSPITAL is now owned by a VENTURE CAPITAL FIRM called National Veterinary Associates, which in turn is owned by JAB Holding company, JAB has tripled in size since it started buying up vets and charging confiscatory prices, taking advantage of our love of our pets. I gave them two stars because at least they did my cat right and he's fine now. BUT they started burying me in pitch emails too, trying to feed fear about my cat's health, constantly trawling me for more money, more money, more money, all while pretending to care about my cat when they don't. If the people at South Park Animal Hospital really loved animals as much as they love MONEY, they wouldn't have sold out. But they did. I will never go back and suggest you don't start.
