    the label on the bag

This stuff tastes absolutely amazing. Worlds better than any of the watered down mixtures u might find at Whole Foods, etc. It comes in a 24oz frozen bag from Mad Beets on Garnet. At $25 a pop you are looking at three $8+ cups of 8oz broth!! So I really try to savior it each time lol. The easiest way to prepare it is to cut open the bag and place the frozen block in a heating pan.... set to LOW temp on ur burner and let it dethaw for 20-30mins. I refrigerate the leftover and reheat and serve within 2-3 days.

With the thickness of this one compared to all the others I've tried, I know it is a high quality source for collagen.

What used to be a place we genuinely enjoyed has become run-down, dirty, and disappointing, with noticeably diminished food quality and increasingly terrible service. Tonight's experience was the final straw. We were seated in the bar area for open seating. We waited 12 minutes before my husband finally went to the bar to ask for a server. The bartender said he would send someone over. Another 10 minutes passed, and still no one acknowledged us. We eventually went back to the bar and placed our drink and food order ourselves. It took another 12 minutes for the server to bring our drinks. In the meantime, I had to go to the bar myself to get water and napkins for our table. Our server walked past us at least 10 times without acknowledging us. From the time we were seated until we received our drinks was approximately 47 minutes. It then took 1 hour and 5 minutes to receive our very simple food orders. And unfortunately, the food was mediocre at best. What made the experience even worse was the complete lack of attentiveness or apology from our server. There was no acknowledgment of the excessive wait, no effort to make things right, and no sense that our experience mattered. We felt essentially invisible. After more than 20 years of supporting this restaurant, it is incredibly disappointing to see how far it has fallen. The condition of the restaurant, the decline in food quality, and especially the service are simply not what they should be. Save your time and your hard-earned money. If you're in the area, go across the street to the Catamaran instead. You'll be treated like valued customers and, in our experience, receive much better-quality food and far more timely service. We really wanted to love this place again, but sadly, tonight made it clear that those days are gone.

The business still features offerings from Mati's, but it is now a food collective. A chicken wing vendor and a future chicken and waffles vendor will be sharing the same kitchen. Parking is free for up to 30 minutes in the shared lot. After that duration, you need to pay at one of the available kiosks. Since these were the early days of The Playground, there were operational kinks that need to be smoothed out. First were the unusual business hours (e.g. 9 am to 9 pm on Thursday and Friday, only 7 pm to 9 pm on Sunday, etc). My initial attempt to visit occurred after work on a weekday. Despite the supposed closing time of 11 pm, the doors were locked at 5:30 pm. Second was the lack of prices on the menus. That is a cardinal sin in my book because if you are open to the public, then you owe it to the customers to disclose the costs. The first item for my to-go order was a snack size serving (six pieces) of Chicken Wings. I picked Bonnie's Barbeque for a sauce that featured a sweet and smokey flavor. The wings were coated with the sauce and not deep fried which made them a bit healthier. The second item was a Birria Quesadilla that came with consome on the side. A flour tortilla was filled with cheese, marinated shredded beef, cilantro, and onion. It was then sliced into smaller triangular pieces and then separated by aluminum foil in a takeout box. The consome had moderate richness while the cheesy, beefy tortilla was filling. I didn't understand the meaning of the new moniker as the interior setup had not been modified. It certainly did not have the ambiance of a playground. My first impression of this place was a three star rating with multiple areas of needed improvement including signage on the marquee. If one is driving down Mission Blvd, then there is no way to notice from the roadside that The Playground even exists.

I ordered the Birria Crunch Wrap, and halfway through eating, I discovered a long strand of hair buried in the food. Not just on top in the food. It was clearly cooked into the dish, which tells me that basic hygiene in the kitchen is completely lacking. When I pointed it out to the server, she barely apologized and offered to remake it, as if that would magically erase the thought of chewing through someone else's hair. No manager came to speak to us, no discount, no sense of urgency or genuine concern. The rest of the food wasn't memorable either--bland, lukewarm, and overpriced for the quality. But honestly, after the hair incident, I couldn't bring myself to take another bite. If you value cleanliness and basic health standards, avoid this place. There are plenty of other restaurants that know how to wear a hairnet.

The kicker was how terrible the service was. - our waitress had a lot of attitude in the beginning, rolling her eyes and not being responsive, and rarely checked on us after taking our food orders - entrees came a long time before apps, and dinner was served without silverware - entrees were placed at the corner of the table instead of served to each individual person, and while moving our plates food spilled everywhere and no one cleaned it up - no water refills. When we did ask for water, the waitress brought us the carafe and immediately walked away even though all of our cups were empty/needed filling - our empty plates stayed on our table for an hour and only got cleaned up when we asked - someone said they would be right back to come wipe the dirty table after they took our plates, and never came back - it was a birthday outing and they did comp our dessert, but it didn't come with a candle or anything. They brought 1 spoon and no sharing plates, even though there were 3 of us. When we asked for extra spoons they brought out packaged plastic utensils ??? - a lot of young and rowdy patrons, just to keep in mind the ambiance Genuinely shocking experience. Please do better!

They apparently have happy hour all day on Sundays. I tried the peach mocktail and it was very yummy, so I appreciated the $5 off. For dinner, I ordered the branzino (the one on the menu and not the special). I was told while the one on the normal menu was $47, the special was $55 and the only difference between the two was the special would be lit on fire table side. I didn't feel the flames were necessary, so I skipped that. (However, the special did mention a sauce that I'm not sure was actually on the regular one, so I don't actually know.) A few minutes before the food came out, they asked if we wanted it all together or if it would be ok for my husband and our friends food to come out first since they were still finishing my fish. I said to just bring it out when it was ready, however they ended up bringing it out together anyway. The confusing part though, all of our meals weren't served warm? You'd think if they were waiting on mine to be done it would have been at least warm? It wasn't. The branzio was very plainly seasoned, tasted heavily of oil and was also somewhat dry? I got it with the whipped sweet potatoes, which was very creamy, which was unlike any way I've ever had sweet potatoes before, but they didn't taste particularly good? We each tried them and none of us could figure out what it was like, but we all agreed we didn't enjoy them. My husband got the arrecherea, it was fine, but also cold. The fries it came with was probably the best part, they were crispy even while being cold. Our friend got the stuffed Mediterranean Stuffed Pepper, his meal also wasn't warm, and he said some of the rice wasn't cooked all the way and it was hard. We also got the Puccia Bread & Spreads after seeing positive reviews. I normally love feta cheese, but the feta dip was kind of sweet? Same with the eggplant. The only spread that was good was the butter. Personally, I thought the bread was fine? But it was almost a bit doughy. Overall, we weren't very impressed with the meal. It had a lot of potential, but the food just didn't hit the mark.
