My croissant was doughy. My partner got a Leek and Basil Bistro. It was also doughy. They got my order wrong too. I got a Matcha Latte. They gave me a Chai Latte. The weird thing was they told me it was a Matcha Latte when I asked about it, but it was clearly Chai as it wasn't green and had cinnamon in it. It didn't even taste like Matcha. I kinda just let it go without much pushback because I like Chai too, it was the same price as the Matcha, and I didn't really feel like arguing since I was on vacation, but it was still strange that they looked at that very tan/brownish Latte with cinnamon on top and told me it was matcha. Was even listed as Matcha on my receipt. Seating was pretty nice I guess. Ehh. It's a 3/5 place. Wasn't the worst experience I've had. Wasn't the best. It'll be fine if you are in the area and need a quick bite. read more

Food/Drinks: This was our first time in Toronto, and for the first day being there for breakfast, we decided to stop by this spot. They had such a delicious and massive variety of breads, pastries, and croissants! I got myself a delicious croissant and a coffee, and it was perfect to start my morning! Location: This location is directly ona main street in Toronto. This place is definitely a casual spot to grab and go, or you can sit there as well. Regarding parking, I'm not sure how that works because our hotel was within walking distance, and we decided to walk directly from our hotel, which wasn't far at all. Service: If I could give this place a five-star simply because of the service, I would. As I was taking pictures of the pastries, just being a tourist...you can actually see the man in the background who was so friendly and honestly made us smile with his smile. My friends and I were walking around the area and we found this cafe. Au Pain Doré is a nice chill place to sit down and unwind with your friends while enjoying pastries and coffee. I ordered the Smoked Salmon Quiche, Almond Croissant and Iced Americano. Smoked Salmon Quiche (4/5) had a nice buttery and flaky crust. The egg filling itself was smooth. The smoked salmon-to-egg ratio was just right where every bite was well-balanced. A little addition of cheese and some dill could help elevate the creaminess and flavours of this dish. Almond Croissant (3.5/5) was buttery and flaky. It also had a rich and nutty flavour from the almond filling and the sliced almonds gave it a nice crunchy texture. The only thing I must say is that the croissant didn't have the satisfying crisp on the outside and the fluffy texture inside. Iced Americano (5/5) was so delicious. It had notes of chocolate with an intense body. I would go here just for their coffee. The service itself was okay. You walk in and order at the counter and they ask you whether you're dining in or having it to-go. We opted to dine-in to cool down from the summer heat. They call out your order and place your oder at the front for you to pick them up yourself. read more

I had high expectations for this place after reading various review sources. Food: 3/5 Ambience & location: 5/5 Service 5/5 I got - Canelé - Plain Croissant - Roast beef sandwich Canelé was disappointing. Outside had no crispiness, inside was dry. Plain croissant was average. It had a good buttery flavor but the overall texture was grocery store level (again, no outer crispiness). The roast beef sandwich had good quality baguette with nice blush of butter. I liked its use of vegetables (mix of fresh & roasted). But the roast beef was a grocery deli level - mushy, salty and with greenish cast. The location is perfect. Nice and comfortable seating. Many eat-in patrons are enjoying their drinks (coffee, tea etc...). Service is prompt, no complaint! I was shocked to see Au Pain dore absolutely packed for 10am Monday, with a queue till the door! I was lucky enough to grab a seat just a few minutes after I ordered, and was glad I waited around to experience a really lovely cafe vibe. Lots of people, but not too noisy with a perfect temperature and strong wi-fi was the best combination to get some much needed work done. I went for a spinach and cheese pastry, and a almond Chocolate croissant as well as a gingerbread hot chocolate. Everything was so filling that I could just about finish the hot chocolate and had to take most of the pastries home! But it was delectable. Soft, warm, sweet and just perfect. Will definitely be coming here again if I get a spot! read more

I did not have a good time here. everyone was loud, (granted, the group next to us was really loud but still) and the music was not necessary. And the food was way too small for the price it is. Disclaimer: review from an annoyed person, not an annoying person. I walk by this place often and it was a rebrand of Brioche Doree which closed down as it wasn't nearly as good as its Parisian offering or quality (IMO). So, I thought I would give it a good for my croissant fix and downloaded their loyalty app. Currently there is a promotion for coffee + Croissant advertised for $5. I checked out on my phone and noticed it was actually $5:20 and not $5 as advertised but let it go as this is a battle for consumer watch dogs and not a low energy person like me who just needed her caffeine hit. 1 point for initial annoyance. I noticed I also got a welcome offer for a free Croissant so I crawled over this morning, picked up my $5.20 coffee + croissant combo and asked if I could also redeem the additional free welcome offer but was told only 1 offer per visit so no. That's fine as they morning staff was really polite but young and I just knew they wouldn't know much more than this so I left with just my coffee and croissant. Annoyance score 1.5. Later that day, I walked by again when I was out for lunch and thought to pop in to grab that free croissant offer but didn't want to just line up for that as lunch time is a bit busier - I decided to order and pay for a pistachio croissant. The staff over lunch seemed very stressed and rushed. There was a line but it wasn't THAT long. Okay, my turn - Can I have a pistachio croissant pls which I will pay for an I have an offer for a free butter croissant as well so can I get too. Was it a language barrier or lunch hour rush stress? She said no, I cannot use the offer for the pistachio, only plain butter croissant. I clarified that yes, I understand and I will PAY for the pistachio one. She asked me to scan my bard code for offer and told me no it didn't work. I was so confused and really annoyed at this point explaining - listen, I came this morning and they turned me away then that I cannot redeem the welcome croissant and now you telling me the scan is not working for it - I mean its just one thing after the other and seemed like they just didn't want me to redeem the free croissant. So, I asked - ok if I only buy the pistachio croissant now. Walk away with it, re-enter the store again right away and place a new order for the free welcome offer of 1 butter croissant, you mean to tell me that the bar code will just not work at all? Ever? .... Sensing my frustration at this point she said no I already explained to you that you cannot use this offer for the Pistachio croissant. I wanted to fall to the floor and throw a tantrum like a 4 year old. Am I crazy? Is this the state of Toronto now? Nothing is easy anymore. No one understands ANYTHING anymore and NO one knows anything about the job they were hired to do. The line behind me gets longer and I know I am keeping everyone know who likely thinks I am the crazy person but in the end she understood and said so you want to pay for the pistachio croissant? and also get the offer for free butter croissant - YES!!! Yes thank the heavenly croissant gods YES. This is the last time I try to help with a purchase when trying to redeem a free offer. Sheesh. I was annoyed enough to leave this long review. First time in Toronto and I stopped at this bakery twice in one day. Everything about it is great. I came first in the morning around 11am and it was the place to be. Every table inside was full and customers were coming in and out. I got a pear danish and a mini apple strudel. The pear danish was amazing. It was still slightly warm so I know it was fresh. I ate inside and sat near an outlet to charge up my phone a little. They have free WiFi. I came back later the same night right before close and got to meet the owners and another friendly staff member. I ordered a hot chocolate for my walk back to the hotel and the owner was so nice explaining to me how they make the hot chocolate and even showed me the chocolate morsels that are melted down. Easily the best hot chocolate I've ever had. The display case is filled with pastries, sandwiches, tarts etc and they have a great drink menu filled with coffees, teas, hot chocolates and more. I'm hoping to get a Toronto layover again soon for work so I can pop back in for more. read more

While it's often super busy and looks like lot of tourists and locals hang out there, if you are lucky enough you will get a spot to sit at. It's a great bakery and they have fantastic and fresh bread, almost as good as the bakeries in Europe, I'd say. We do a lot of food rescue using Too Good To Go and to get a lot of good bread and sweet treats at a reasonable price is such a treat. The rescue bags go very quick because they only have two bags a day to give away. It's understandable especially when you go to their store at 7pm and it still has so many people ordering. They are very popular because of the quality of their food! It is a little pricey I must say if I had to pay the full price. The staff is friendly and diligent. It's one place where they actually make sure that you get the value that's quoted on too good to go app. So if the app says you are going to get $24 worth food, they bill to see that you're getting that amount. So I really appreciate the honesty. Loved everything we've had from there, even things like cherry which we are not fans of, we've liked it here. That's how good of a bakery it is. The bakery itself is busy and cute looking with all the Parisian stuff they have. I know I'm going to keep coming back here! read more

We got an almond croissant and spinach and cheese quiche delivered. The quiche had a watery flavour, no seasoning no nutmeg, not even any pepper. It was inedible. It's not hard to make a decent quiche. Even the smell was off. The croissant was pedestrian, and needed more marzipan in the almond paste and less sugar. Popped in on a whim to pick up a treat. Decided on an almond croissant which was by far the best I've had! It was the perfect indulgence.

The vibe is cute and comfortable, and the staff are very nice! I tried a chocolate filled pastry (I don't know the name) which was a bit too sweet, but still enjoyable. I also tried the vanilla latte, pretty standard, and the hot chocolate, which I really liked. If you want to be super warm try and get a seat deeper into the cafe, it can get chilly when people enter/leave during colder months. Overall great place to go with friends and family. read more
