I am working in Knoxville for a few days, and was told Aubrey's is a local favorite so I stopped in for dinner last night. The service was really good and attentive. The ambience was good too so I thought I'd enjoy the food. I was wrong. The server asked if I'd like warm bread and butter before the meal, so I said yes. She brought me a warmed up hamburger bun (gross) but the honey butter was pretty great, but it didn't help me forget I was eating a hamburger bun. The main course appeared. I ordered a Rajun Cajun which is a spicy chicken breast on a bun. It tasted okay, but then I bit into a tendon or something in the chicken breast which skeeved me so I quit eating that. This was our first trip in several years for dinner with Hubby's boys and family. We were stuck in traffic for 45 minutes on our way, and it was great to arrive and have a good visit with family. Our server Devon was friendly and gave us some time to settle upon arrival. I started with an Angry Orchard cider which was sparkling and refreshing. The Caesar salad was crisp and tasty. Inadvertently, I had ordered the tacos on our first visit six years ago, and it is still a good choice! Hubby ordered the seafood pasta, also with a Caesar salad, and was pleased with his choice. The steak and Parmesan spinach were ordered by one of Hubby's sons, and looked delicious! If we lived closer, I could see us returning more frequently. read more

Most items are pre-marinaded with pepper. I cannot eat any pepper. I was told that if I knew 2 days in advance that I would be eating there, to call them and they would leave my piece of chicken, or whatever, out of the marinade, and they would fix it for me when I came in. I don't usually know 2 days in advance where I'll be eating. It really limits my eating here unless I get salad. Atmosphere is good. read more

Drove all day to get to Knoxville for a week of business meetings. Wanted a restaurant close to the hotel and quick as it had been a long day. Aubrey's was a great pick me up. They had a good crowd for a Sunday night but not overly busy that I couldn't get a table without a wait. Ordered the Buttermilk Fried Chicken with white gravy. Asked the server her opinion on the Mac and cheese and she recommended it. The chicken was definitely hand breaded chicken breast and covered with a delicious white gravy. When I took a bite of the mac and cheese I had a moment of OMG this is delicious and maybe a light main of deliciousness. I left overstuffed and satisfied from a delicious meal and great atmosphere. Enjoyed a meal with 9 of my colleagues at Aubrey's, and for the most part, everyone enjoyed the food. One order came out incorrectly, and another was overcooked; however, the rest of us seemed satisfied. The restaurant placed us at a table in the far corner, yet we still could hardly hear each other until much of the lunch crowd left. I ordered spicy salmon tacos that tasted delicious. They came with a small side of chicken gumbo soup --absolutely amazing, though the soup was lukewarm. I would return just for a bowl of this hearty offering with a round of bread the restaurant serves as a starter. Ambiance is nice as it has outdoor seating, bar area with TVs, family style are separated from the bar area. Service was timely and waitress answered questions. Food was between a 3-4 depending on what you order. Steak filet was phenomenal cooked to perfection. Sweet potato waffle fries fresh, crisp but sweet with sugar sprinkled on them. Rye rolls super soft and warm with mildly sweet butter. Catfish fresh with a cornmeal batter. Yukon potatoes mild taste as was the Mac and cheese however they were both on the cold side. The service was okay. They were probably under staffed on a Tuesday. I did not enjoy my food at all. I ordered the fried fish which was mostly really greasy batter and not much meat. I then replaced it with a salmon and that was also a fail. It was dry and not well seasoned :-( I only finished my salad and the spinach queso was really good! In past years we have delicious dinners after driving from Kalamazoo Mi. And Jacksonville Fl. Knoxville is our half way stop to and from Jax. Fl when we visit our our daughter . It's easy to get to from the Hampton Inn at Papermill. This last visit on 12/21/2025 we ordered fish on thick potato chips with a lemon caper sauce. No lemon caper sauce. More breading on fish than fish. The thick potato chips were pan fried??? Thick potato slices. I ordered a Caesar salad. No anchovies in the dressing. Very disappointing, food was overpriced and over processed. One person order was wrong and they didn't bring out the correct order until everyone was finished eating. I was in town visiting family and some of us came here for dinner - recommend a stop! The food is delicious- kinda like elevated bar food. I had the salmon tacos - so flavorful! We also had the spinach dip as appetizer and it was a good size for a table share. If you're someone who is cold natured, bring a jacket because it's freezing inside. We opted to sit outside instead and enjoyed the evening weather. The ambiance was kinda dark for my liking but the food was absolutely delicious! The service was spot on and we had zero wait time on a busy, concert weekend. We were so happy to find a delicious restaurant that was close to our hotel and I would bet just as great, if not better than the touristy places downtown. 10/10! Courtney was my server and got me started out with an iced tea (half-and-half) which had great flavor and a very cold Miller Light! I ordered the Old fashioned nachos were made with lots of real shredded cheddar and chili which turned out great! Don't personally care for corn chips but these were good and the chili was perfect in flavor, consistency and content. Just a great plate of nachos overall! Also had the Strawberry chicken salad which came out looking like they'd shredded the chicken, mixed it with dressing (which was flavorful) poured over a bit of greens. It didn't look appetizing at all but I'd just ridden 370 miles in the heat and was famished. Frankly, it was made sloppily so I'd stay away from the salads but the nachos absolutely rocked! After announcing that the bread was in the oven and was about ready, he brought two hot buns to three people at our table. Was one person supposed to put his hands all over one and cut them to share? When I asked our waiter, he said they always serve just two because the chefs used to cut the buns in half. So I just did not have bread. Other examples could be listed It is this lack of attention to the customers' experience that the distant managers or board of directors in New York City that will bite them in the long term. Shabby. I was checking Yelp for reviews. This place was right near where we are staying! My husband got the Angus beef (thunder) burger. He said it was "too filling " for him...which is odd. He said it was good. Maybe because we had the old school nachos and that filled us up! Suggestion: to enjoy your meal, do NOT order an appetizer! I got the cranberry chicken salad. I will say... about the salad... a little LESS on the apple on top. Also... the chicken could be of better quality. I got "deli meat" vibes off the it. Ok, so I saw in reviews that there was a waiter that was a "wet noodle". I think we got that guy at our table! You have to ASK for bread. He didn't come around much. Was near the hotel we were staying at, so we took a chance since we wanted a homestyle meal. Going into the restaurant, I wasn't sure what to make of it. The bar area was separated away from the restaurant - probably for noise considerations. If I had to describe the dinner experience it would be....Meh. My child ate more of the fries which came with the Kid's Mac and Cheese meal than eating the mac and cheese. Steamed broccoli was kind of meh as well. Same went for the Lemon-Lime Chicken. While cooked properly, there was not much lemon or lime flavor. House salad was lifeless but probably the best part. Buttermilk Fried Chicken was heavily breaded, but cooked properly with creamy gravy (which was needed). The squash casserole was kind of mushy after sitting around being pre-made. Actually, I happened to peek in the kitchen and saw lots of food pre-prepped (large bins of white rice made). If I visit the area again, I probably will look elsewhere. read more

Aubreys always has pretty good food and a nice selection to choose from on the menu. They have a full bar and friendly service. This time I had the thunder Road burger which is made of natural prime beef topped with homemade pimento cheese, tabacco onions and sliced jalapeños. Goes great with my ice cold Stella beer. Stayed at the Hilton Garden, which really is walking distance, but it was dark and raining so I took the 2 minute drive around the corner and restaurant has a very nice, warm atmosphere. Food was very good, wasn't real hungry but had to eat something, so I got the chicken salad club and it was stacked! Almost couldn't finish, but did (!), but did turn down desert, so it all worked out. The only negative I have is my server was almost pushing me out the door. I did have a small salad, which I had to wait a little bit for, but as soon as I started that, my sandwich came out. Never got a refill of my water and 10 minutes before I was done, he dropped off my check! Jeez, come on, relax a little. But next time I'm in town I'll stop back in. When I walked in I wasn't greeted by anyone. So it didn't start off on the best foot. I was meeting a group of people so wanted to get a drink at the bar while I waited. There were no seats so I went to the hostess and asked if it's possible to get a beer at the bar then wait on the patio. She told me no and kind of left me there. Not a great start. I found a seat and grabbed a beer. They had a good draft selection and it was a Tuesday so my beer was only 4 dollars. When my group arrived we were seated quickly.
