First off yes I know it's a chain, but you know something. A lot of people say some bad things about The Chop House. Personally, I think it's pretentious people expecting way too much. Let's start with the weight staff, they were great, and they got a seated right away, even though we were a few minutes late for our reservation. The food was great, and I mean, that genuinely, my pork chop was very thick, but it was still cooked completely and wasn't dry. My guest had a New York strip cooked well and I will tell you that's a difficult task because her steak was not dry at all. The sides were immaculate. I will say that the marmalade that came with my pork chop was not to my liking, I think it was house made, and it was lacking compared to the marmalade. I grew up with. But that said the cinnamon apples were excellent, the sweet potato was amazing, and my guests fully loaded baked potato was perfect. The ambience is a little bit in industrial, I'll grant you that because it's kind of cookie cutter based on the fact that they have to furnish a number of these restaurants. But let's get real for a moment, the price that we paid was en par for the experience. To use a cliché, don't go to a waffle house and expect cheesecake factory experiences. The same thing can be said for The Chop House. If you come looking for a five star steak house experience, you're setting yourself up for failure. But then again you're not paying for a five star steakhouse experience. Be kind to the staff, they know where they work, and they work very hard to make your experience as pleasant as it possibly can be. So don't be a jerk and enjoy yourself! read more

The surpriser to us who are from out of town was that when had a reservation planned we still had to wait a little bit before we could walk on in. The reason of that though was that it was the day of the University of Tennessee graduation so there were tons of people in town and so so many at this restaurant. Looked forward to a roast beef sandwich on my birthday. Hadn't been to a chop house before so I went to the Harvest mills location for lunch. Very disappointing. The beef was room temperature and the fries had been sitting around before plated. We had Christmas Eve dinner and it was nothing short of magical. Annie, our waitress, took phenomenal care of us. With a fully packed restaurant, we had made a 5:15 reservation and we were in and out in one hour!! I was not only impressed by the wonderful service, but also with the food. It was our first time ever to a Chop House, and it certainly won't be our last. I had the baked Boston schrod. With its wonderful ritz cracker crumb breading on the outside and flakey on the inside, it was perfection on a plate. Served with dill caper sauce and normally Parmesan creamed spinach, but I swapped this for the loaded baked potato. My better half had the chicken piccata with a sautéed lemon wine sauce, mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli. He ended up swapping the broccoli for the Mac 'n' cheese side and needless to say, there were no leftovers for the either of us. To add to the already festive night, the restaurant was decorated beautifully for Christmas. If you've never been to a Chop House like us, you should definitely give it a try. We celebrated my Husband's Birthday here. It was Absolutely Delicious and the qualify of food was top Notch. Aliyah room great care of Us and even gave my Husband a free dessert. Which he Loved! The orders and the checks were wrong. Medium well steak was still moo'ing. Did not get one of my sides. Ordered the "daily special filet", that was supposed to have mushrooms. There were no mushrooms. The ticket had the side I never got on it, sent him back to change it, and then when he came back it didn't have the "special" price for what I had ordered. We had another EXCELLENT experience at this location! Service here is always friendly & helpful. And the food is consistently delicious. I usually pack half my meal to go so I am sure I have room for their decadent desserts. Favorites include: Deviled Eggs with Brown Sugar Bacon, Roasted Turkey & Dressing (who can get enough at Thanksgiving!? I get extra cranberry sauce), Chicken Florentine Pizza, and, of course, ANY of their steaks! And they do have a kids' menu! ;) We went at lunch on a chilly day & sat by fireplace. SO COZY! Our waiter was not attentive. We didn't get bread on time. Then when we got our orders written I noticed the waiter is helping out a finished table. This is fine, but I know he didn't put our order in. That's never a good sign. We had a table behind us who asked for their bread. So the race I was wondering who will get the bread first. Then I see our waiter gave bread to the new (third) table!! We waited maybe fifteen minutes for our bread. Probably more if my husband did not mention it. Baked Boston Schold was alright. I should've gotten the Prime rib, My husband's T-bone was great. As I mentioned the waiter was not attentive. He did not check on us. He was barely around for us to ask anything. There's dozens of workers and still this happens. What also makes this three stars is two managers that could've helped by noticing this or ask if we needed anything. My wife and I celebrated our Anniversary with a nice steak dinner today. Over dinner we laughed about the worst anniversary dinner we ever ate (last year). It was the chop house. When I walked in with my wife we both noticed an odd vibe. The whole place looked like it haven't been updated since 96'. Not a problem, we were there for the food not the decor. Too bad the food was pretty rough. I got a steak that was so over cooked I wouldn't give it to my dog. My wife's pasta was sub par, neither of us finished our meal and opted for McDonald's on the way home, though we paid close to $100 with no alcohol. The service was ok, there were plenty of young kids that were slightly apathetic, but pleasant enough. All this to say a whole year later, and I have not returned and don't plan to. The Chop House is a small East TN restaurant chain that is approaching its third decade, in operation. There are few restaurant chains that have been able to maintain their consistency as well as the Chop House has. From their atmosphere and menu to the quality of ingredients used and how well everything is prepared, the guest can be assured that they will enjoy the same dining experience, regardless of location. That being said, they really do have excellent food and a nice variety of menu offerings. My wife, without exception, always orders a skewer of grilled shrimp with a crab cake. It's served on a bed of fettuccine and garnished with a lemon wedge and tartar sauce. The crab cake is thin but of generous diameter. It is packed with a very generous amount of crab that is well seasoned and has a pleasing texture and consistency. The grilled shrimp has a nice flavor of wood smoke with light charring. I typically order a large salad. I get extra bacon, extra cheese, and extra ranch. They make the ranch dressing daily, they cook the bacon that goes on salads and baked potatoes differently than bacon that is for hamburgers. It is by no means "health food." Quite honestly, the salad is a decadent combination of ingredients and flavor. Nobody else has a salad like this. I also recommend their appetizers and desserts. Their NY cheesecake is 100% authentic. It has a firmer texture than the "typical" soft and sugary wedges that most places serve. The cheese that's in their fried mozzarella also seems different than what you typically encounter in casual dining. It has a nicer stretch and it's a bit chewy. The panko breading makes it pleasantly crunchy and this stands up well to both the soft texture of the cheese and sweetness of the dipping marinara. If any of the above text is pleasing to you, I recommend that visit a location of your choosing and enjoy your dining experience. read more
