My hubby is up here working and comes here all the time and tells me how good it is. I came up to visit and made him bring me! I am so glad we did! We sat at the bar and ordered a round of drinks since we had all night and wanted to hang out and enjoy the environment. Amy was the bartender and I ordered a Lavender Lemonade... it was sooo good! She made it perfectly! I highly recommend it! My hubby got a red ale. It is a nitro brew and it had a really smooth taste. I always like to try classic drinks at different bars so I ordered a vodka soda with a lime. Wow! It was strong, but not overpowering...it was just right! Kuddos to Amy! As far as food goes we decided to start with the fried pickle chips and they did not disappoint. I wasnt in the mood for anything too heavy, so I opted to get the lettuce wraps from the appetizer menu as my dinner. They were very good! Good flavor, the lettuce wraps were a pretty good size, and I really enjoyed them. I wouldn't mind ordering them again as an appetizer the next time, because after tasting my hubby's french dip I know what I'm getting as my main dish! The french dip was so good! Bread was perfect and did not get fall apart soggy, the meat was nice and tender with excellent flavor, and the french fries were the perfect side to compliment the sandwich. The only complaint he had with it (that he always has) is that they do not give you enough au jus. Most of the servers we came in contact with were friendly, and helped if we needed anything or had a question. The atmosphere is laid back and just a nice place to hang out. They closed at 10 and we ended up staying until closing, but we never felt rushed to leave or like they were annoyed that we were still there. It's a great spit with good food and great drinks. What a wonderful spot! Stopped in for lunch. The food was excellent and the service was outstanding. Kendall took very good care of us and even gave some great suggestions from the menu. Again, another popular place in Auburn and it was extra busy as it was Canyons Endurance Race weekend. We were able to be seated quickly and our server was friendly and fast. I like chili and even though the weather was nice (warm), it was calling my name. So glad I ordered it. It's the hearty, meaty, comforting chili with diced onions and cheese and tastes so good. Also ordered the lettuce wraps. The chicken was a little over cooked / dry, but the sauces were tasty, the lettuce fresh and the slaw nicely seasoned. We stopped in here after a hike in the area. It was a cute little sports bar kind of place. Two of us ordered the sour, which was very good, and the waitress brought a light beer shooter with them, which was also good and we really enjoyed the extra touch. Food was also good - friends ordered a burger and fries. I had the Reuben sandwich, which was one of the best I've ever had. Yummm! Auburn alehouse located in old Auburn downtown. Perfect place to stop and get lunch after hiking. I got the chicken Swiss apple sandwich with fries. It was delicious my free portion was a lot smaller than my dad's. The menu was pretty good had a few different options for peskaterians. He got the sunflower burger and he said it was really good and tasted very much like a normal burger! The fries were crispy and the pickles that came with the food were dill. They have good burgers here, and the servers are always friendly. They also have a vegan substitute for the burger patty. It's a grain based patty and tastes quite good. The garlic cheese loaf with balsamic is really good, but don't just take pieces off of the top. Make sure to cut it up and get butter and garlic mixed around with the bread. They also have lots of other entrees and appetizers. Soup and salad options are a bit light. And don't forget dessert. Their brownie with ice cream is not bad. Good food. I loved the wrap appetizers I had. Very well made Bloody Mary. BUT I drank a soda with my meal, the waitstaff never came back after giving me my food to see if I need anything. I ate my whole meal with water because I never saw her again. When we decided to get an after meal drink we damn near had to set off a flare to get someone to talk to us. We stopped for lunch on our way to Reno, but after lunching here, we thought we might make this town and this bar a destination trip overnight! It was a holiday weekend and the place was packed, but the hostess gave us a table up front in the bar so we could eat sooner than the wait of half an hour for other tables. We loved being in the thick of things, because the bar had young and old people all mixed in, a nice vibe in the air. We had a light brunch of cold waffles with berries, a small plate perfect while traveling, and delicious to boot. Our waitress made us feel special, she was that good! We are not regular beer drinkers ( or any alcoholic bevs) but we were so intrigued with the house brews listed with their ingredients that we decided we'd love to come spend a night just to sample as many of them as we can. It's in old town the best part of Auburn and sitting outside on a nice day is the way to do it. I visited visited Auburn Alehouse today and was HIGHLY, disappointed with the customer service. Upon being seated under a strong fan and AC, I politely asked if the fan could be turned off, my request was met with a curt "No, I can't do that," with no alternative solutions offered. When I asked if we could move to another seat, especially since other booths were available.. the server sharply suggested "you can go outside," despite no clear indication of outdoor seating. I felt seriously dismissed, especially considering this is a frequent spot for us, so I said "well I guess we'll be going somewhere else then" , which was met with an "Okay!" as she took the menus and walked off. a real little ball of depressed joy is what she seemed like, yikes and she's working in customer service?? not a good fit. Overall, the lack of care and professionalism made for a very poor experience. I love the Alehouse, its beer is decent and the appetizers are usually a hit, but this really changed my opinion. Hiring practices seem to either have gone down the drain, or just consideration of employees with customer service attention, detail and care is lacking. i'll take my $$$ elsewhere! read more

Went here for a quick sit down casual dinner as a group of four. We sat in a booth. My husband and brother in law enjoyed their beers. We shared pickle fries which came with a side of ranch. They were yummy and unique as the fried pickles were large pickle slab slices. The batter was crisp and fresh and seasoned well. I had the crispy chicken sandwich with fries and my husband had the roasted vegetable salad. The food was good and decent sized portions. My bro in law and had the seafood pasta special which he said was a bit salty. The place is not too big and was busy as our food came out after twenty minutes from ordering. My brother and I got dragged to Auburn for a shopping trip with our wives. Like they say, when given lemons try to make lemonade. For this day, a good beer did just fine. Our wives went shopping as we made a B-line to the Alehouse. It was a great decision. The service was fantastic. We got to sample a couple different types of beers that helped wash down a GREAT burger! The ambience in the Alehouse was perfect and it made a win-win afternoon for us and our wives They shopped and we drank-perfect! My hubby and I spent a beautiful day in Auburn wine tasting. Dinner time slowly crept up on us, and the Auburn Ale House, along with two other restaurants, came highly recommended. We decided on the Auburn Ale House after checking out their menu. After wine tasting all day, I felt like a hearty meal and a beer. There was a big crowd and the bar and restaurant were lively. There was a half hour wait, so we ordered a beer and waited for a table. We only waited ten minutes and were seated at a high table on the way to the kitchen. I saw the wait staff come in and out of swinging doors since I sat facing the kitchen. The kitchen had a line of tickets out the door, so I was excited to eat. I ordered the fried chicken and made it Nashville hot and Mac and cheese to start. My hubby ordered a cheese burger and a clam chowder. We shared our entrées and shared a banana creme cheesecake for dessert. I ordered a Shanghai stout and hubbs ordered the Anniversary bomb with a keepsake glass. Quite possibly the best fried chicken in rural California just an hour drive to the slopes. A lovely upscale brewpub atmosphere. Wonderful service all around at 11am on a Friday morning. As I mentioned in my previous Auburn Yelps, I really enjoy visiting your city and all your breweries! Quality/Quantity - My flight: Old Town Brown - I can drink this all day!! My favorite of all the beers. Good flavor with a surprisingly low alcohol %. American River Pale Ale - Good. Gold Digger IPA - Had to try this just because of the name. Magnolia Hill Mando NE IPA - Did not taste fruity at all, which is what I prefer. Old Prospector Barley Wine Cask - I am drinking more and more "fusion" beer. These beers are an acquired taste, but I used to say that about IPA's... Big Papa Percolator - I am not a stout drinker, but Trista was insistent that I try. Food Cheese Loaf - This was highly recommended on Yelp, not sure if our expectations were too high but we were not wowed by it. It could have used more cheese and a crispier bake. But the next day, the leftovers that I warmed up in the toaster oven at home made it even more amazing! See picture, not fully baked, not evenly toasted. Tri Tip Sammy with Clam Chowder - My daughter did not want me to order this as she was afraid that we (as usual) ordered too much food. Well, this was the best part of the meal. Outside - 5/5 Downtown Auburn is a nice cozy location and Auburn Alehouse is smack dab in the middle of all the businesses. I appreciate the town's efficient use of the small road space to maximize parking. I can definitely see that this place can get busy on a weekend night. Inside - 5/5 Clean, organized, great use of space, nice marketable material, easy to move around and comfy enough seats. Food - 5/5 This day I got the tri tip BBQ sandwich, house salad and Hop Donkey (red ale). I was pretty impressed by the house salad as I feel most places don't put a lot of effort. But this side dish was made with fresh AND crisp greens and veggies. The tri tip BBQ sandwich was very good as well - tender meat, cripsy outside - soft inside ciabatta bread and of course the bbq wasn't overpowering! Last but not least the 9% Hop Donkey was very flavorful and full body. Twas a nice way to end my meal on the way to a cooler night. Meh. Super fun space and energy, but if we're back (this was our second visit), we're sticking to beer/wine and burgers. Ordered two Manhattans with a premium rye, but what we got were two light pink cocktails that bore no resemblance to a Manhattan. I asked the bartender about this and she thought they looked fine, though offered to pour in more red vermouth if we wanted (seriously?). I wasn't going to leave a review, but given all of the comments about the fried chicken club, I couldn't resist. What comes is a massive hunk of deeply fried and dry chicken on a bun. It's a poorly done and tasteless fried chicken sandwich. A club does isn't served on a bun, nor is it solely chicken (I spotted a sliver of cheese). Having already commented to the bartender about the Manhattan, I thought it best to keep quiet. Our server, who was otherwise lovely, picked up my basically uneaten meal without comment.
