We ordered Bertha's bread (tiny loaf - was good, fresh, warm & fluffy but nothing special), Roasted Oysters (bread crumbs on top were mushy which I felt didn't compliment the oysters but my husband thought the dish was tasty), Kilt Lettuce (beautiful salad with melted bacon fat drizzled on top but it seemed to be missing the vinaigrette/acid), Fried Fish Eggs (innovative/unique and delish with the deviled egg dressing), Fried Trout with butter beans & smoked oysters (trout was exact same cornmeal breading/fried as Fried Fish Eggs but was plain and lacked sauce/flavor, but the butter beans were tasty (however the "smoked oysters" in the beans had no smoked flavor/taste that added anything), and the "Bear Creek Farm Pork" with "tomato gravy" (over salted for the 1/2" thickness, with a gravy that lacked tomato flavor) with cabbage (best part of the dish) and "smoked sausage" (no hint of this ingredient anywhere). So, for both main entrees, the accompaniments actually outshined the proteins. The Apple Toffee Pudding dessert and "birthday ice cream" were solid. We were visiting Nashville for the weekend and got a last-minute reservation for dinner at Audrey. We arrived a little early for our reservation, but the hostess seated us right away. Since it was our first time and wanted to try as much as we can, we opted for "The Feast," which costs $99 per person. Our server, Garrett, walked us through the menu and made adjustments as my date does not eat pork. For the first wave, we had Sourdough with Butter, Mister Stripey Tomato, and Fried Apples. Each of this dish was more than what we expected in terms of quality and taste. It was mindblowing. For the second wave, we had Killed Lettuce and Onions, Cherokee White Grits, and Lamb Belly and Sweet Potato Skewer. The grits was so delicious and the lamb belly and sweet potato skewer with paw paw sauce was excellent! For the third wave, we had Audrey's Chicken and Dumplings, Bone-in NY Strip Steak, and Potatoes with Sassafras. It was impressive how these traditional dishes were upscaled using Appalachian ingredients. For dessert, we had an Apple Cobbler with homemade vanilla ice cream. I can not describe how heavenly this dessert is. With the food and the ambiance, Audrey is definitely a must visit in Nashville. Overall the food was good but not necessarily worth the cost of the meal. The Smoked trout dip was delicious and would go back for that! The fresh rolls with carrot jam and butter were also amazing. Who doesn't love warm rolls? The cured ham was basically prosciutto and while it was good not really worth it. For meals the three of us got the steak option, chicken and biscuits and trout meals and shared potatos and squash for sides. The food was all good but nothing in salivating to go back for. My aunt was in town and her friends had raved about this place and she knew of the chef from his days in Charleston. My aunt was happy and loved the vibe and menu. Yeah, this is a good one. A great one. I came with a friend and we ordered a spread of dishes. It was crazy good. Possibly my 2 favorite details in a very crowded field of delights were: - the cabbage accompanying the ossabaw pork dish is outrageously good. Had a chance to geek out with the chef on its prep (brine, miso, cheese curds: oh my!). Absolutely necessary to try. I mean: who gushes about cabbage?? - the bay leaf in the rice pudding is like hearing perfect harmonization: magnificent. Eons ago, I fell in love with a pear Parmesan sorbet at Sunset Grill that I still dream about. I now have a new obsession. If you're looking for a place to impress with ambiance, hipster art, and incredible attention to detail - this is your spot. However the menu is a different story. The menu at Audrey seems like it is the brainchild of a bunch of stoned chefs in a basement, each trying to one up the other with creative takes on every day classics. The result, albeit impressive, are mixed. For example, the pork and cabbage skewers were excellent while the lion's mane mushroom was overly salted. The biggest disappointment for me was the bastardizing of a classic chicken n' dumplins with black truffle. While I definitely think this place is a creative aesthetic masterpiece with some interesting takes, it ultimately falls flat for me and thus gets the 3 stars. read more

All of the food tasted bland and needed salt. I ordered the beef and it was chewy and tasted/smelled like peanut butter. The boiled potato's and cheese appetizer lacked flavor. The service was okay. I didn't expect anything, but the service was not the best. Meanwhile we saw and heard them tending to another table and kept giving them freebies. The food took 3 hours and we didn't even order that much. Service in terms of refilling water was great. Bear creek beef: this steak was phenomenal, cooked perfectly medium rare and it was juicy and flavorful. However, that was $75 with zero sides. It should come with some greens on the side at least. Potatoes: 6 piece of potatoes for $17. The melted cheese was pretty good I must say. Bread: bread was salty but cooked well. The sweetpotato jam was really good. Mushroom: that blob was $27. I love mushrooms and it was good with a squash purée, but I don't think it's worth it. For dessert, I got the honey custard and that was delicious. I was in town for a one night trip for a wine certification exam and decided to stop by for brunch following my exam. I came in at around 1:50pm on a Sunday and they were able to seat me even though brunch ended at 2pm. I ordered a glass of wine featuring an Italian varietal which I had never tried, which was fun. I also ordered the shrimp and grits as well as the banana pudding. The shrimp and grits had a unique flavor and was topped with a tomato gravy. The banana pudding featured a paw paw compote, which was fun to try for the first time and dethroned my (former) favorite banana pudding from NYC. The server was so kind to bring out a glass of bubbles to help me celebrate the completion of my exam, which made my solo brunch feel special. I didn't like that the size of the steak you would get at the final course if you ordered "The Feast" it would be the same size. I had this place on my list for so long. Since I was visiting a friend in Nashville, I made sure to try to make a reservation. I did it relatively late but I still had a bunch of availabilities for Sunday brunch. One thing that stood out to me was they were so nice in accommodating pushing our reservation earlier so we could go to a last minute whiskey tour which was 30 minutes away. The entrance of the building was slightly hidden so we needed a few minutes to find it. But it was cute. Inside, the kitchen was open so you could see the chefs working on orders at your table from a distance. The setting had a dark feel but it wasn't too dreary due to the use of other colors (dark green chairs) and the light from the window. Plus the artwork gave it an interesting sight while waiting for your food. Our waiter was so wonderful and was great in helping us to decide what to order and did it with good humor. Let me tell you this, don't miss out on the cornmeal pancakes. It is perfectly crunchy and soft while having the perfect amount of syrup (no extra is needed). I fell in love with apples again through this dish. We also got the Appalachian breakfast and that sausage gravy is a banger. We also had the crab and grits with egg and it was so good! I do believe they change the menu sometimes so some things we had may not be there. We also had drinks and I appreciated that there zero proof drinks were cheaper than their alcoholic options. We made a reservation for Audrey for a Thursday night and got seated right as we arrived. The space was beautiful and gave off a great vibe. We got water very quickly and made our drink orders, but that was where the quickness stopped. The menu is set and changes often, you get all of the welcome snacks and then pick one of each from the first course, main course, and dessert. After a long wait, the welcome snacks finally came out. I loved the strawberry gazpacho! All of the flavors were amazing! The other two were okay but both were a bit too salty for my tastes. Another long wait and the first course came out. I ordered the grits and ribeye. It was my favorite part of the whole night. They were the best, most flavorful grits I've ever had! The ribeye was perfect!!! This course also came with bread and a butter carrot jam. This was also great and the carrot jam was surprisingly good. Next was the main course, which was a smaller portion size than the first course. I had the lamb, which wasn't bad, the glaze on it was delicious, but the kale was very good. For dessert I had the roasted strawberry, tomato & jasmine.... I took one bite and couldn't finish the rest. Not a fan of that combination. Overall, it was nice to experience a restaurant like this, but I won't ever return. The restaurant is gorgeous with cool art & music. I enjoyed watching the open kitchen throughout our time there. What a little gem this is! It's not little really but the ambiance is warm and welcoming. We only had drinks & dessert in the bar. The bartender, Lain, was lovely. She made some special recommendations & modifications for us. The persimmon martini is excellent & not overly tart. We also had the chocolate mousse which is served atop a brownie & other surprises. The apple toffee pudding is cake like sticky toffee pudding & comes with ice cream & candied pecans. Lain explained that they make some of their own bitters, teas, juices & much more in house. You can tell they put a lot of thought into every aspect of this place. The decor is cozy & comfortable ( none of those industrial metal chairs) with lots of interesting art work. We said we'd be back for dinner & someone kindly showed us the dining room which was nice & he didn't have to do at the end of a shift. Oh, and they have their own parking lot! We had: -Heirloom tomato/watermelon salad. It was ok. The watermelon quite good, the tomato spoke for itself, but really, just a slab of tomato with 2 little croutons. Failed to elevate like I expected. -Roasted pepper appetizer thing with a peach sauce. Sauce was good, peppers good but not anywhere near great. -Pull apart bread. I make far better bread myself and this was a real disappointment. The butter with carrot butter inside was stellar, however. -Lion's Mane mushroom thing. First bites were amazing, and the sauces also stellar. -Roasted potatoes were good, and the fish roe sauce unusual and really good. $23 for a few roasted potato pieces, tho? IDK. -Chicken and dumplings were everyone's favorite. Much like my German grandma made but she would die if she saw the price tag for this peasant food. -$48 tiny cut of beef that was tough, charred nicely, in a completely inedible sauce. Served with 100% raw okra? Seriously? $48 for a few bites better be edible at least, and this was not. Drinks were similarly way overpriced, but I expect that in high end places especially in Nashville. In all it was $269 for 3 of us with 5 drinks, plus gratuity. This is a room with high ceilings hard surfaces and the continuous din of of unintelligible house music - not sure if it was designed to mask the kitchen sounds, provide inspiration to the chef, or was part of vibe setting. Unfortunately along with two tops being immediately adjacent this raised the sound level so one could not hear their companion so the concomitant increase in raised voices just added to the cacophony. Not a pleasant fine dining experience. Low lighting, and beige script small font menus on off white paper made reading the menus without an iPhone flashlight difficult. Food was a bland, although salty. Room was cold - perhaps to counter the heat from the central Kitchen area with the servers wearing heavy sweaters.
