Reviewing this restaurant after having dinner here twice. Once last weekend and the first time back in November of last year. Our first visit in November was excellent. Everything we ordered was fantastic and the service was great. We raved about the restaurant to family members that lived nearby and even purchased a gift card for them. Our second visit last weekend wasn't as great, but it was still enjoyable. We had Lychee Sake on the back patio while we waited for out party to arrive. Our server was good although he seemed a bit irritable and in a rush. The food was excellent although the portions seemed a bit on the small side. Highly disappointed in the Garlic Noodles with chicken that barely tasted like garlic and only had a few tiny scraps of chicken in it. Wouldn't recommend that dish but everything else was great. We stopped by here as it was around the corner from where we were staying. Plus why is it so hard trying to pick someplace to eat...lol... Or is it just me. Well, a friend also recommend it as they live in town. Small town, most places do close pretty early. I think they closed around 8pm when we arrived. Food wise, we started off with some of their starter. Burmese chicken wings and added fries. The seasoning was quite nice and tasty. Tossed with fries, onions, bell peppers and garlic bits. Quite tasty. Shrimp basket, classic fried shrimp in rice paper. Just like an egg roll. They were quite nice and tasty. Crispy pork belly, marinated pork belly served with a tamarind sauce. The nice crunch and sweet sauce were all great together. Entrees, a mixture of everything to share. The spicy noodles which were pretty much similar to pad Thai. Stir fry noodles with bell peppers, onions, green onions, mushrooms, scrambled eggs, peanuts and adorned with shredded cabbage. Perry much their version of pad Thai. It was good but a little too sweet for my liking. Burmese style chicken biryani, slow cooked chicken thighs and drumsticks marinated in butter, yogurt, masala, ginger and served with biryani rice. That was a meal in its own. Tasty with the sauce and the chicken literally fell off the bone. Basil chili beef was quite nice. The flavors were really good and the beef was tender. Fiery pork was a recommendation from the waiter which was also a nice dish. Stir fry tofu with pork, red onion, bell peppers, string beans, garlic and a house special soy sauce. Tasty dish as well. Lastly the chicken red curry. Slow cooked with potatoes, onions, Marsala, paprika in a rich sauce. Served with steamed rice. It was good but the other dishes outshine it. We did like the food. Very similar to a lot of other Asian dishes but their version and take on it. Pretty much similar but change it up with the spices. Service was great and the place was nice. Authentic Burmese food with excellent customer service? Say less. This restaurant has so many positive reviews that I just had to try it! And of course, it did not disappoint. Their BBQ pork fried rice was flavorful. Chicken crisp had great texture. Crispy, saucy, but not soggy. Golden noodle salad was labeled as a "salad" but definitely felt more of a noodle dish. What I really like about this dish is the umami flavor as well as the combination of crunchy and soft textures with every bite. And my favorite - the tea leaf salad! Went with a party of 7 people and traveled a long way to try the food which we were told was really good. The food was tasty however the portions vs the prices did not equate. The noodles were served in a small bowl. Not everyone could try them. I had a spoonful of the garlic noodles and none of the spicy (which was what I wanted to taste most). I even asked before hand if the amount of food ordered was enough for everyone to taste and the waitress said, assuredly, yes! Again the food tasted great but the serving sizes were not close to expectations. One other critique is that we were charged, (see receipt), a "surcharge"! No one mentioned it to us beforehand and it should've been. When the check arrived, on the underside of the bill it said 20% surcharge for parties of 5 or more. That's not advanced communication. It was close to 30.00!!!!!!! Had we known that 2 of us would've sat separately. Do better and don't deceive. It cost you a much larger tip than you required us to pay. This place is fire! First time trying this place out. They have a big Burmese menu and everything looks interesting. Since our experience was so good, we will definitely be back to try different entrees. We started with the tea leaf salad and I recommend doing half cabbage and half lettuce. The roasted peanuts in the salad were super tasty and added great texture. For entrees, we had the traditional shrimp curry and the lemongrass chicken with house fried rice. The food was just soooo goood! My family and I tried the skillet shrimp, palatha chicken, Burmese chicken wings, bbq pork fried rice, mango swai, spicy noodle chicken, tomato salad, and chicken biryani. I loved the skillet shrimp and palatha with chicken and I've tried mango chicken before and this time I wanted to try the mango swai and it was delicious. the tomato salad was very refreshing to eat and so was the fruit punch. The chicken biryani and spicy noodles were very flavorful. My nieces are the pickiest eaters ever and will constantly say no to food but the Burmese chicken wings is a hit for them. The Burmese food was however excellent & service was friendly & not overly imposing. My first time here and food, service, and ambiance is 5/5. I have nothing but good to say about this place. I think I've had Burmese food twice before but it has been awhile. As you walk in you are greeted by one of their staff and we are seated right away. It not a huge restaurant but it's not small one either. You can smell the food as you walk in and it smells so good it makes you hungry even more. The decor is beautiful. It has a glimpse of their culture shown in paintings. I loved looking at them. The place also looks clean and tidy. For the food we ordered a couple of appetizers and main dishes to share. Love, loved the salt and pepper tofu. It's a good starter, but don't forget the sauce. We also ordered samosa's which had good flavor inside and crispy on the outside. For the main dishes we had: Spicy noodle with shrimp, Traditional Red Curry Chicken, and MayLika's Fiery with tofu and beef. All these dishes had wonderful flavors and they did not skimp on the protein. Last but not least we shared a dessert. The Dubai Dessert Palatha. I've never had anything like it. Love the palatha and ice cream combination. We have to have that ice cream. Note: the chicken in the Red curry was so tender and not dry (as chicken in curry's tend to be dry at times). I've been coming here for about three years, and I absolutely love the food. It's always fresh and consistently delicious. The wings are next-level good, and the coconut noodle soup has always been one of my favorite dishes. On my most recent visit, though, they changed the way they served the soup. They used to bring it out fully assembled in one big bowl, ready to eat. This time, everything came out separately on the side. It definitely looked more aesthetically pleasing, but the flavor just wasn't the same after putting it together myself. I didn't enjoy the coconut noodle soup nearly as much as I have in the past, which was disappointing because it has always been my favorite. I'm not sure if it was because there was a food influencer there that night and they were trying to make the presentation extra photogenic, or if they've permanently changed the way they serve it. Either way, I hope it was just a one-time thing. Everything else I ordered was excellent, and the customer service was as friendly as always. The service was quick and efficient but the lady was a sour puss. Her face couldn't be more sour. The tea leaf salad was excellent . The rainbow salad was horrid and one of the waiters tried to convince me it was always like that. It was a spaghetti rainbow salad- a modified rainbow with mostly wet noodles in a sauce. Last time we ate there (which I have to say was probably 4-5 years before) the salad was completely traditional not the modified one. We ordered a bottle of Hugel Gewertztraminer for its light bodied drinkability and floral notes. I also ordered a strawberry puree cocktail called Love Bomb which was strawberry puree with prosecco and a side of sake - sweet like a dessert but still charming with the little dried flowers. The strips were pretty hard and the chicken was dry. The sauce was delicious. Burmese Crispy Pork Belly- 5 out of 5. Really tasty, sauce was the perfect compliment and the pork was seasoned and really good. Shrimp noodles -3 out of 5, I'm not a fan of the flat egg noodles yet these were good when you covered them in the sauce. If you didn't have the sauce they were dry and sticky. (Running theme here is the sauce is FIRE) Crab fried rice with real crab meat 5 out of 5! This was my favorite it has been so long since I've had crab fried rice that you can actually see the crab meat! (No sauce needed for this one folks) Overall for the heft price tag of $100 (included tip) it's not a spot I'd frequent often. It was two people and while we ate this family style it would not be enough food for a third which is a bummer at that price point. It was my first time trying Aung MayLika in Benicia and Burmese food in general, and I'm happy to say I was pleasantly surprised! The staff were very kind and considerate, making sure we don't have any food allergies and checked up on our table pretty often to make sure things were good. The entire ambiance was beautiful, and I'm glad we ended up choosing to sit outside at the patio because of how nicely decorated it was there. As for the food, I got the mango tofu plate with brown and it was delicious! I will say I was disappointed there wasn't as much vegetables as I would've liked, for instance more broccoli and basil would've been a better touch. Will definitely be back soon! read more
