[[HIGHLIGHT]]Cute little sushi place in downtown Benicia.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Average pricing for sushi. Fish is fresh and food is delicious. Server was attentive.

Still my favorite Sushi spot in town. I just love the peeps that work here. They always are so friendly and fun when we dine in. We went here recently and I noticed that I always have a bad habit of taking pictures of my food specifically here. Ive been to Izakaya so many times and usually am so hungry that I forget to take pictures of all the yummy food. I've never bad a bad roll so I think my brain just goes on autopilot or something. So the goal is to keep trying different rolls on the menu each time I come. If like you spicy rolls or Spicy Tuna, try the Spicy Unagi Roll. Spicy Tuna, Unagi, and Roasted Garlic packed together for maximum flavor. I also tried the Seared Scallop and Crazy Monkey Rolls this weekend and was just as amazed. Just a reminder. If you ever want to ball out and have an amazing 10+ course dinner, try the Omakase Thurs-Saturday. If you do this I recommend calling ahead and setting up a reservation.

A bit of a hidden sushi spot in Benicia on first street. Love the selection of rolls they have. Everything is fresh tasting. The toro roll was definitely a highlight! Highly recommend trying this spot if you're in town. Service is very friendly and quick. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Small dining area but doesn't feel crowded and uncomfortable.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Amazing food! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Such a quaint, hidden gem in Benicia.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] A must try if you want delicious Japanese food.

Great food and service. We got one of the sushi platters (usually only available for to-go orders, but they let us order one for dine-in). We LOVED the Rainbow Roll. Can't wait to go back!!

Came here for the omakase. Since it's always changing your experience will vary. My experience was quite good. First time doing omakase. The total for 3 people after tip was about $400. I reached out through Facebook messenger a couple days in advance to see if they take reservations since the omakase is advance order or subject to availability. They do take reservations. I was told someone would call me back to confirm. A day later I got the call back. I was asked about any food allergies. For the omakase they require a deposit of $25 per person. The deposit is put towards your total bill. The location is tucked away on Benicia's 1st street. Secluded. The inside is a little bigger than expected. There is another room besides the bar seating you see as soon as you walk on. Lighting is a little dim. It doesn't look like a super fancy sushi joint. So I was very surprised by the omakase we got. What we got looked like it came out of a five star restaurant. Server and maybe the chef asked again if there are any allergies or dislikes for the food. They will cater to you. Started off with oysters. Yum! Then a lobster claw salad. The third dish included ahi poke, some salmon and tomato salad, and ikura and hicama salad, deep fried amaebi and scallops, two rounds of various nigiri (there is a dab of wasabi between the rice and fish!), wagyu which was melt in your mouth, razor clam baked and fried, the main course was lobster over cauliflower, with some asparagus and fried shrimp balls, and dessert was crème brûlée but my companions chose to swap it out for the mango soleil. So it was about 10 courses over 2 hours. They really want to make sure you walk away full. We were asked before the main course to rate our hunger level (they will give you more food if you're still hungry) and again after the main course and before dessert. So my experience didn't look like the other Yelp omakase pics. But it was good and definitely worthy of a special occasion. It was a delight. Will likely come back for sushi or nigiri during a regular dinner night out.

Mackerel bento box lunch special and lion king roll
    Marissa P.

Came here for a late lunch and was surprised that the quality was better than I expected. I prefer this spot over Kaigan, the other sushi spot on first street. I'm on a hunt for a lion king roll that tastes better than Yo Sushi's but I haven't been successful yet, and this place's version wasn't as good either. But the mackerel lunch was delicious and I'd order that again

It's a small lightly dimmed restaurant. The service was great she kept checking in on us. Though we intentionally went there for Omakase however I did not know you have to call a couple days in advance to do so. They also did not get their shipment of uni. But overall the food was good especially the Hamachi Kama it was grilled perfectly it was one of the best ones I've had. It was pretty big too and very flaky, you dip it in the sauce for more flavor.

*** Vegetarian Review ***…read more None of their dishes have fish sauce so you don't get knocked over the head with the smell when you walk in. They remind me every time I order, but as a vegetarian, we've all had that fish smell delivered to us at a Thai restaurant at least once (probably twice, more likely three times) in our eating lifetimes. It is such a relief to not have to worry about that here. Would I Come Back? Yes, when I'm in town, I make it a point to come here. Did I mention they don't use fish sauce!? Parking is is incredibly easy so that's never an issue. It's a shared parking lot with many stores and other restaurants. I typically go on a Sunday for lunch, and even with a party of 5, I haven't had to wait for a table. Seating capacity is probably 45-50 guests so if you're planning a large party, definitely best to call ahead and make a reservation. The Food: Roti & Yellow Curry ($14, Grade A+): Fried roti with a yellow curry dipping sauce. It's a super savory dish, and honestly, I should have had you at "fried." If you're wondering what roti is, think of it as a buttery, flaky, pan-fried flatbread. It's large enough appetizer to share with 3 people, but you're pushing your luck with 4. Pad Thai with Fried Tofu ($16, Grade A): I've had this dish 5 times now. To be completely transparent, it's the exact reason why I can't give Pearl Thai a full 5-star rating, purely because of consistency. The first time I got it, it was perfect. The second and third times, it had no sauce and was dry. The fourth time, I asked them to make it saucy, and they obliged to an almost soupy level. For this fifth time, I just ordered it straight up and zipped my lip on any alterations. As they say, the fifth time was a charm! When it's made with the perfect amount of sauce, this dish is excellent. The noodles have that exact texture you look for in a pad thai, and the egg gets that great scorch from the wok for an added layer of flavor. Also, the tofu has been incredibly fresh every single time. It never tastes slightly spoiled, which happens a lot in smaller towns that don't heavily support plant-based diets where tofu just sits in a fridge eagerly awaiting someone to order it. Mixed Vegetables ($14, Grade A): Sautéed wood ear mushrooms and mixed vegetables in a garlic soy sauce. If you've ever had Pad Pak, you already know this flavor profile. I really enjoyed it, but next time I'll ask for no carrots and maybe half the garlic. Overall, it's a perfect dish that absolutely requires steamed rice to soak up all that great flavor. Sweet Sticky Rice with Mango ($8, Grade A): The classic dessert we see at all Thai restaurants, but they serve it with purple sticky rice, making it a visually yummy dish. It's plenty of food to share between two people. Bottom Line: The service here is great and very friendly. It's a small, local shop with "Best in Town" awards highlighted on the walls. The environment is clean, and the food is served hot and arrives at the table quick. One Last Word: Don't leave here without ordering the roti with yellow curry for an appetizer. Pure savory goodness!
