I stopped in last night with a friend. I've driven by a thousand times but never had the opportunity to stop and check it out. Aunt Bea's at first blush resembles a Dairi-O inside, and they sell similar food, but Aunt Bea's has a much larger menu and BBQ. I order the chuckwagon plate with a side of spicy potato wedges and a side of chili cheese fries. It was a total fried-potato-fest. The chuckwagon is essentially a battered and deep fried hambuger patty. Personally, I think it needed a little more seasoning, but there is always ketchup or barbeque sauce. A1 would have done the trick. The spicy potato wedges were not spicy, not even remotely, but they tasted fine otherwise. The chili cheese fries were pretty good. Gloopy and ready to induce heartburn as God intended. (I didn't have heartburn, but I thought it might.) My friend got a cheeseburger, and he said it was decent, but the patty didn't have a lot of flavor. The service was excellent. The girl at the front was so friendly! The atmosphere of the joint is very family friendly, and I could tell that there are plenty of regulars with kids that come there often. They had a pretty nice ice cream selection, and maybe next time I stop in, I'll try some.

Stopped in today primarily for coffee but they only had Splenda, which isn't a healthy option for sweetener so we passed on that. I got an egg biscuit and my husband got strawberry cobbler. He said the cobbler was really good. My biscuit was extremely greasy and the egg bland so this is not something I would order again. If we had eaten in I'm sure I could have added salt and pepper which would have helped but it wouldn't have degreased the biscuit. I don't think we will stop here again.

    Perfect coffee.

Aunt Bea's BBQ was a simple delight if you are looking for kind people, good service and basic simple food. This is reminiscent of the greasy spoon or local family run restaurants I stopped at for a quick bite in younger years in college or after a long night. Not a lot of frills but instead you will get Counter service with a hometown vibe that removes the extra flair many modern restaurants have. If you are looking for a franchise or a bunch of bells and whistles avoid this gem. If you desire your basic creature comforts and some local charm, stop in. Remember we get what we give in life. Everyone was great and the French toast and sides were fantastic! Will be back!

BBQ Sandwich - note the MUSTARD!

If the real Aunt Bea had served Andy barbecue like this, he would have locked her up with Otis, and tossed away the key. The pork was tender, moderately chopped, but with no flavor, and no hint of smokiness. There was little meat on the sandwich I ordered, not much slaw, but there was MUSTARD (check the picture), making the whole mess even worse. The Hot Dog was only marginally better. This is one of 5 of these restaurants, all in this part of the state, or in SW Va. It's basically a fast food sort of setup, servinf breakfast all day, burgers and sandwiches, and some country cooking items. Some of what they serve may be good, what I tried was not.

Not many dining choices in this area. Ample parking and a large dining area with tables efficiently serviced so that they turn over quickly. Our wait for a table was only 10-minutes, following a group of 18! The service was the star of the experience. Very efficient, helpful, attentive servers. Shout out to Suzanna. The large staff worked well together and seemed to make everyone feel comfortable. The ambience is southern, hometown casual. You feel like you are visiting your large family from start to finish. Nothing pretentious. Clean enough. Comfortable. Pricing....in this time of food inflation, this restaurant still offers amazing prices. My husband and I had two large dinner entrees with water and our bill came to just under $24.00. Our portions were generous as evidence in the photo. Our waitress recommended the grilled pork chops which were hot, juicy and seasoned just right. They came with two veggie sides from a long list of choices. I chose collard greens and Mac and cheese. These items were just average and only luke warm as was the biscuit (from a choice of about 5 bread options). Had the sides been hot and a little more flavorful, I would have given 5 stars. For vegetarians and all-day breakfast eaters, Cooper Pot is your place; so much to choose from on their menu. Vegans might struggle as most southern cooking includes dairy and it looks as if they cook their sides in large quantities and keep them in a warmer to serve. The ability to respond quickly to large numbers of travelers and locals, with solid, well-priced, filling meals is the gift of the Copper Pot. We will return when traveling their way.

Very generous portion sizes and phenomenal flavors. The breakfast club standout was the pork sausage. Absolutely excellent and elevated that flavor profile to the highest degree. If you get the chilaquiles, I highly recommend getting both salsas. It offers a great contrast of flavors. I got mine with the birria meat and I was completely satisfied. The blueberry hushpuppies were an amazing surprise. Like deep fried donut holes. The cinnamon butter that goes alongside it was a perfect pairing. Finally, the beignets were melt in your mouth good. Like flaky funnel cakes. I want to give a special shoutout to our server Raegan. She was great in recommending items along with making our drinks to order. The food tasted great, although most of the food on the buffet was cold. The issue is the service! You have to seat yourself and despite it being a breakfast buffet, you have to wait for a server to serve you. That took forever--only come when you're not in a rush and have at least 1.5 hours. It wasn't crowded; there were empty tables the entire time I was there. At the buffet, you can't serve yourself. So finally when the server came to take our drink order and buffet details (you can do made-to-order omelets, eggs, pancakes as part of the buffet), you have to stand at the small buffet and wait for a server to put the food you ask for on a plate. This took a ridiculous amount of time. They had plenty of employees, but instead of taking our order or serving the buffet, they were filling ketchup bottles, talking, or doing other tasks that had nothing to do with serving the customers standing there waiting. There was a man walking around (appeared to be the owner, as he would occasionally instruct his staff) who was drinking a sweet tea. He rounded the corner to the buffet and I thought that he would finally help us. No, he was just refilling his sweet tea behind the counter. The kitchen knew what they were doing, but the wait staff is just plain awful. They were friendly, but inept. If they train their employees better, I will be back. For now, I won't return.

When the food arrived, I immediately noticed the sausage looked off and had a strange smell. It wasn't up to my standards, so I decided to skip it. Thankfully, the rest of the meal was better. The eggs were good, and the French toast was absolutely delicious--the highlight of the meal, for sure. Overall, while there's definitely room for improvement in both service and food quality, it wasn't a bad experience.

Sure, there are tables and booths scattered about, but otherwise the dining area feels hollow, without comfort or warmth. Credit to the hostess though for quickly getting a spot for me to sit during my visit, and to the waiter that promptly delivered menus. This is largely a selection of breakfast and brunch items with Mexican influences, and I decided to pick the eggs Benedict with smashed avocado. The wait didn't seem to be all that long, though I did empty a glass of refreshment during that time, and the wait staff were not all that prompt to see it refilled. Additional drinks did eventually arrive though, and the food came not long after. Even with the accompanying side of baked apples, the plate seemed scant in its content. And the flavors were pretty bland too, leading me to wish I'd picked something with more to offer, in addition to a dish with more substance. [That said, the omelets I saw on the plates of a neighboring table didn't seem all that large or visually impressive either.] The food didn't taste bad, mind you. I just didn't get enough in amount, in value or in quality to leave me genuinely impressed. Like the decor, the meal felt like it was a half-empty shell, with plenty of room for more. So maybe I'll go back another time and see if some other selection from the menu has more to offer. Otherwise, Eggies feels outclassed by most any other breakfast-focused dining option in the area. If I want simplicity on a plate, I can find it at a wealth of other restaurants with morning hours, and I can probably get more for my money there. And until I find something genuinely special about what's coming from the kitchen here, I don't see my attention or interest being captured by the relatively pedestrian experience I've had here so far.

This is a solid restaurant with much to offer in the brunch/breakfast area - an area that has become popular and chic, and it almost always means much will be expensive, usual very expensive considering the less than costly menu ingredients that drive food choices here, and other such brunch spots. Brunch is seen as more than just a meal for some folks who are all into what is trendy, and restaurant are aware of this and prices are raised due to the "experience" element! I have tried several items here including their version of Huevos Rancheros (not a fan of how they make it, pulled pork is a party foul), the Eggs Benedict (decent but over priced for sure, $17 with bacon added), and several Omelette choices, can reach $15. This is obviously a popular spot in downtown Winston, but I find it generally overpriced, loud, and the service is inconsistent. I like a good adventure, but somethings simply are not worth the cost! Note that the prices for individual items are written, very lightly with no $ sign to the right of the item. This is done intentionally to make the customer pay less attention to what they spending. Many restaurants are using some form of this approach!
