I came here for breakfast with a friend. At 6:30 in the morning, there aren't many here, but the service was great. We sat and talked over coffee for over two hours and nobody complained. The coffee was what you'd expect. Actually, it was better than I expected. I drank mine black, and it was middle of the road. No weirdness or issues. I also had a country ham biscuit, which was really good. There was a breakfast buffet that looked okay. A good handful of people came in and ate it, and there were some take out orders as well. I'm not really a buffet person, or I'd try it. I'll come back for sure and take some pictures.

About Surry county and their ground steak sandwiches that they are famous for in our state magazine. I decided to drive the short distance to the neighboring county and eat at Cousin Gary's restaurant. My waitress Lindsey was super nice and very helpful as I told her what I was there for. I did get the ground steak sandwich with fries and corn nuggets and was very surprised. This sandwich was really really good, like a sloppy joe but without the sauce. As I was getting ready to leave I saw a sign that said best fried chicken in town and Lindsay confirmed that was true. I did order two pieces to go once I got home I ate one and it was really super good. If you are anywhere near Surry county and want to try the sandwich they're famous for definitely check out Cousin Gary's. I couldn't imagine a better place

Decided to stop at Cousin Gary's for breakfast. We originally went going to stop here from the appearance, but are glad that we did we stopped. There is a buffet with southern home cooking food. We decided to order from the menu. The breakfast items were delicious. The service could've been improved. It did take awhile to get our food, and there wasn't a lot of people here.

    Egg shell in pancakes.

The pancakes were not "light and fluffy". Plus, the egg shell did not help. Food was basic but at a very good price point.

I want to clarify that my rating absolutely does not reflect the service I received from my waitress, Beth. She was what made the lack-luster experience kind of positive. She was super attentive, checked on everyone, personable, and knew her regulars by name. The ambiance gives me a country primitive vibe. I found it cozy and inviting until I started looking at things that weren't eye-level with me. The ceiling fans are caked with dust, the vents on the ceiling are littered with dust, and I couldn't figure out why they were keeping a dessert "display" in the Pepsi cooler. Now on to the food.... I didn't even make it 1 minute down the road and I found myself scrambling to get into Food Lion to use the restroom... I also haven't eaten all day so Cousin Gary's was the first meal. When you go into a restaurant that says it's a "family restaurant " you expect home cooking with lots of flavor. Everything was so bland. The cabbage was sweet, but other than that no flavor. The turnip greens were clearly straight from a can. I asked the waitress for some vinegar... the vinegar you usually put on turnip greens is malt... all they had was white. Anyway, they needed flavor so I added that and salt. That made them bearable to eat. The country fried steak was bland as well. The gravy was clearly not homemade either. It was bland and you could taste flour. Overall, the food was not good at all. The sweet tea was even overly sweet. It tasted like straight syrup. I had contemplated getting the buffet, but upon exiting I glanced at what was on the bar and it made me nauseas. Lol. Plus, they have a weird fan of some sorts that was once white sitting on top of the bar... that just struck me as unsanitary. They received a health score of 91 back in February according to their score sheet in the restaurant. Overall, the experience was not good. The food is horrible, and is guaranteed to give you a colon cleanse at the cheap price of $9. The waitress was incredible though, and you can tell she loves interacting with the public. The waitress gets a 10/10 while the food gets a -1/10. I'm definitely not feeling too well after eating here.

Not a bad Dog, but not enough to bring us back, or bring you in.

How much are the average entrees and buffet?

The buffet is $7.99 and includes a drink and dessert from buffet bar. The entrees started at about $7.50 and went to about $18.00 including 2 sides and a drink. The buffet is quite a bargain.

We were seated promptly for our Friday night, 6:30pm reservation. Tables were well spaced and never felt cramped. We only ordered the bread basket, You Knead This, as an appetizer; opting for salads to start the meal. The Merc, The Chopped and The Grilled Caesar were liked by all. I personally had the Chopped and it had a great mix of texture and flavors with candied pecans, pickled onions, mandarin oranges and a sweet poppyseed dressing. All six of us ordered steaks, two ribeyes, three filets and one sirloin. All were cooked perfectly ranging from rare to well done. They were well seasoned and most of us chose the Gorgonzola Bacon Butter which was a nice addition. The Brussel Sprout appetizer is a huge crowd favorite, but the side dish is only charred. However, you can request that they prepare them the same way as the appetizer. They were delicious and so were the Au Gratin Potatoes, which were baked in their own little metal crock. Dessert finished up with a Key Lime Crème Brûlée that was delicately flavored with a light touch of lime. We also had a Brownie Sundae that was delicious as expected. Customer service was on point from the greet to the farewell and everything in between. Overall a truly flawless experience.

Luckily for me, my mom's 83rd birthday was coming up so we had a reason to celebrate and she was more than happy to celebrate her birthday dinner with family here. I came hungry because I was prepared to indulge and I am so glad I did. I ordered a small salad instead of an appetizer to start. The Merc salad sounded delicious and it's served with a pomegranate vinaigrette that was perfect. For my entrée, I ordered the petite filet mignon, au gratin potatoes, and the green beans. I probably could have left off the green beans, but I'm so happy I got them because they were amazing as well. Perfectly tender and seasoned. Speaking of seasoning, everything on my plate was perfectly seasoned. There were salt and pepper grinders on the table, but I did not need them at all. My steak was cooked to a perfect medium as I had asked, the au gratin potatoes were tender, creamy and cheesy and I already mentioned how perfectly cooked my green beans were. Normally, we all share a bite of food from our plates that is different from what we ordered however my food was so good I didn't want to share. My husband offered me a bite of his Brussels sprouts and they were SO SO good I might need to get those the next time, but I didn't share my green beans with anyone! After dinner, we ordered a Key Lime crème brûlée which was delightfully bright and the perfect ending to our wonderful dinner. Our server was on point the whole night and kept everyone's glasses filled as well as checking on us. I almost want to gate-keep this place because I want it to stay local so if you go, you didn't hear it from me.

Not many dining choices in this area. Ample parking and a large dining area with tables efficiently serviced so that they turn over quickly. Our wait for a table was only 10-minutes, following a group of 18! The service was the star of the experience. Very efficient, helpful, attentive servers. Shout out to Suzanna. The large staff worked well together and seemed to make everyone feel comfortable. The ambience is southern, hometown casual. You feel like you are visiting your large family from start to finish. Nothing pretentious. Clean enough. Comfortable. Pricing....in this time of food inflation, this restaurant still offers amazing prices. My husband and I had two large dinner entrees with water and our bill came to just under $24.00. Our portions were generous as evidence in the photo. Our waitress recommended the grilled pork chops which were hot, juicy and seasoned just right. They came with two veggie sides from a long list of choices. I chose collard greens and Mac and cheese. These items were just average and only luke warm as was the biscuit (from a choice of about 5 bread options). Had the sides been hot and a little more flavorful, I would have given 5 stars. For vegetarians and all-day breakfast eaters, Cooper Pot is your place; so much to choose from on their menu. Vegans might struggle as most southern cooking includes dairy and it looks as if they cook their sides in large quantities and keep them in a warmer to serve. The ability to respond quickly to large numbers of travelers and locals, with solid, well-priced, filling meals is the gift of the Copper Pot. We will return when traveling their way.

The next two were super dry and I could not eat any more of them. My coworker joked that that was probably what they were referring to when they said "dry rub". The green beans were ok. I added a ton of pepper and some hot sauce. I saved the mac & cheese for lunch the next day. The hushpuppies were dense and needed a little more flavor.
