a pretzel and a cup of mustard
    Libby F.

I just need to pretend I am eating an apple when I bite into an Auntie Anne's pretzels. A hot apple. A buttery apple. A super salty apple. Not working. It is what it is. It's delicious, and not a healthy apple, I am afraid. Did that stop me from getting two? I had to! I got a buy one/get one FREE deal from their website (Pretzel Perks mailing list) as a birthday gift. Turning down a birthday gift would be just plain rude! Yes, I could have shared one with someone. However, my friends all work on Monday afternoons, and you gotta eat them whilst they're hot. (I did manage to contain myself and only devour, I mean nibble just one right on the spot.) I saved the other for later that night. I'm having an apple later today, or maybe a Godiva truffle or two.

    Burnt!

Love Auntie Anne's - the pretzels, the pretzel dogs, the sauces... just a nifty "hit the spot" type of place.

Even though it's a small operation, this pretzel shop truly brings joy to our community. They also offer delicious breakfast sandwiches, pretzel dogs, and various tea and coffee options. I was lucky to get all three of my pretzels from the oven. I especially like how the cinnamon sugar pretzel is topped with icing instead of dust--it's much easier to eat and still gives you that sweet, satisfying treat. The staff are quick and friendly. If they're baking a flavor, they'll let you know how long you'll need to wait for that fresh batch. Lots of patrons were picking up take-away and the in-person ordering line moved quickly. Definitely kid friendly with plenty in-door and out-door seating. We placed our order and waited to be called over the PA system. I'm not sure why they call you based on the items you ordered rather then the receipt number, but such is life. The breakfast pretzel was served room temperature, eggs were not to my liking, but good flavor from the bacon and cheese. The pretzel itself self was dry and kinda flavorless. The salted pretzel had a soft interior and crusty exterior with nice salt flakes but didn't live up to my expectations. The pub cheese was a welcome purchase to polish off the pretzel. The sweet pretzel was the best from our order. Pretzel was still dry but the cinnamon sweet topping made the top enjoyable.

Located inside an industrial building in Silver Spring's Lyttonsville, DC Pretzel Company sells made-to-order pretzels for those who order ahead. The night before, we ordered two salted pretzels for a Saturday 10:10am pickup time. We arrive a few minutes early and waited just two minutes since our pretzels were just out of the oven. When the worker came out, he said he snuck in a garlic pretzel as a gift. (The family before us also got something for free as a fun surprise.) All three pretzels were so good! Of course they were very warm, tasty, and with perfect texture. The best pretzel in the area is here!

Honestly all the flavors are great so I always order at least one of each. The owner is super nice and threw in an extra original pretzel. What an awesome gesture. I've gone to pickup every Saturday and Sunday since my last visit and will go every weekend until I get sick of soft pretzels but that will never happen! Soft pretzels definitely have a special place in my belly, I meant heart!

I was expecting chill beer garden vibes, which has been the case at other similar spots I have been to. Sauf Haus was definitely not that, though part of it was definitely on us for not doing our research. Others have mentioned the two steep staircases. I happened to be in an unfortunate position where I have a knee injury and was in a brace, so that was challenging. Now, that isnt something my friend had remembered about Sauf Haus and I didnt think to look it up, so that is on me. I was able to make it up, but it was challenging. It seemed entirely inaccessible for those who have a disability (permanent or temporary) that renders them unable to go up stairs. When we got to the top, the first bartender we encountered seemed to be inconvenienced by us ordering. The bartenders we encountered in the outside area and later in the indoor portion were friendlier/more helpful, though. There was also a day party going on with a loud DJ, lots of dancing, and a mister/bubble machine, which is seemingly a weekly event. Again, I did not think to see if there was anything going on, and there is nothing wrong with that - it just was not what I expected in going here. What was more concerning was that, in the 2ish hours we were there, we saw at least 5 (likely more) people get kicked out. Manyyy people that i saw were struggling to stand and had the thousand yard stare in their eyes. Several people threw up. One guy straight up peed all over the floor of the men's room. Oh, and both bathrooms are left entirely open, and the men's urinals are directly inside the door. So that is all just...exposed, which I have never seen in a venue before (even at the diveiest of dives). It seemed like it was reasonable for security to kick out the people that they did, but it also seemed like bartenders were heavily overserving. And, again, this was all before 6:00 p.m., so I can only imagine it gets worse after that. They had a good beer selection and sell most beers in both .5 or 1 liter mugs. We got the 1lb soft pretzel, which came out hot and crispy. I loved that it had several different dipping sauces with it. It was tasty and reasonably priced. My friend and I were going to both get a beer flight (as advertised on the menu), but they only had one flight board available so I got a cocktail instead. They do charge a 20% "service charge" during certain hours on weekdays and all day on weekends, but they make sure to tell you that isnt a tip and that you should still tip extra. I got a couple cocktails, so my $14 drink turned into a $22 drink after tipping. The cocktails I had (Strawberry Smash and Feel the Passion) were really good. Overall, I am rating Sauf Haus a 3 because we were not their target demographic. Those in their target audience seemed to be having a great time, and I could see myself enjoying a spot like this when I was in college. But I do think there is an overserving problem and they could do better on some other customer service aspects, too, regardless.

I was in the patio with friends, in the corner, not bothering anyone -- not fighting, not yelling, not approaching strangers. Security walked up, said there was "a complaint," refused to say who it was from, refused to say what it was about, refused to let me talk to the manager, and refused to even let me back inside to grab my own card. My friends asked him to stop. He ignored them. This is the second time their security has unfairly targeted me. The first time I had just stepped outside to take a phone call. The same guard ran after me and started accusing me of stealing -- but couldn't say what was supposedly stolen or who had complained, because nobody actually had. I told him my laptop and jacket were inside at the bar and that all the bartenders know me. He eventually apologized once it became obvious he had nothing. Same guy, same pattern, different night. Also worth knowing: my friend and I had just ordered around $100 in food and drinks at the end. Nothing finished. No refund offered, no apology, no manager. If management thinks letting one guard humiliate paying customers in front of their friends is good for business, here's your feedback. Plenty of better pubs in Arlington that actually respect the people

These are perhaps the best pretzels you will ever eat. They are fresh, hot, gooey, and huge, and yes I'm talking about the pretzels. They also have perhaps the best Banana Milkshake I've ever had (and I've been told the rest of their shakes are equally stellar). They're dirt cheap and worth the drive to Maryland just for those two items alone. What to get: Hot Pretzel, Banana Shake What not to get: Hot Prilosec, Banal Sheikh Lydianne's is the highlight of the Amish Market in the MD countryside, about half an hour East of Washington, D.C. which is the capital city of some small country, I forget which one. The Amish know how to make this sort of food. In Philly, the culinary highlight of the whole region may be Miller's Twist... fresh lemonade, hot pretzels, and amazing shakes. In Ohio, the best shake and roast beef in the state is at Hartville Kitchen - an Amish paradise as Weird Al would say. But the pretzels and shakes at Lydianne's not only rival those, they may beat them. Certainly nothing in the DC area comes anywhere close, and even though they have limited hours (I think it's just Friday, Saturday, Sunday, mornings), you must make the journey out here, and once you're in the market, make a bee-line for Lydianne's, get a pretzel, get a shake, your life will be changed forever. Don't say I didn't warn you. This is coming from someone that never even liked pretzels before I met the Amish, and who loves shakes so much that I have probably tried 1,000 of them across America. Now if I just put you to sleep, lift your Lyds and get over to Maryland and try this immediately. Thanks very much to Mo (who is from Buffalo, not from MO) for insisting I go here. Which I am about to do again. Be back in a Mo.

The beer itself is quite good, and the bathrooms are clean. No complaints there. The issue is atmosphere, or the lack of it. Service was efficient and accurate, but the bartenders ranged from detached to noticeably unfriendly, which doesn't exactly set the mood. There was a live band the night I visited, and they were good. They were clearly trying to get something going, but it just didn't take. Part of that may be the crowd, which I realize a brewery can't fully control. But it's a strange fit for the location. Seven Locks sits in an industrial park in a more modest part of Rockville, and the clientele skews heavily toward families who've come with kids, tablets, and dogs, and who aren't particularly interested in talking to anyone they didn't arrive with. There's nothing wrong with that, but it doesn't make for a lively bar experience. The result is a place that has the ingredients for something great but feels oddly joyless in practice. I'll probably try it again hoping something clicks, but right now it's a hard place to love.

I'm going to be honest.. this was not really a place that I think is appropriate for a show, a drag show at that. Lots of kicking, spinning, vogueing - and it was distracting to getting my drink down. I wish the space was more opened for the event. Additionally, the parking wasn't the best either. We parked on the street, about 0.2 miles away and were pleased to see there wasn't a charge posted on the meter. Almost an hour into the bingo show, my friend and I were hungry, and did not want the bags of chips floating around 7 Locks. So we left without finishing the game and went to go settle those hunger sounds. Overall, I don't think I would return to 7 Locks. There were a few missed moments and to top it all off, the crowd wasn't the most inviting either, as I asked a gentleman at a single table by himself, if the seats were taken (as my party of 2 stood for the first hour), and his response was that he would "let me know" once he finishes his pizza. Just - kinda rude in my opinion too.
