The bartender was good but in the weeds. Beer was great. (Try the double bock on tap--rich beers, served from very clean lines, in a half-liter glass. Take that pint ;) This made the wait run smooth. I had a farmer's plate, which was well over a pound of pork in various guises. As the waitress said, "It's good for more meals". Wife's schnitzel under a mildly spicy tomato sauce is good. Glad we didn't get appetizers, as the portions are generous. And very delicious. The bartender worked very hard to keep up. Another bartender to run the service bar and another waitron on the floor, and things would have run more like they used to when they were on Fifth Avenue. Even as they were running around, everyone was friendly. Still, wife and I had a very good time, and do not pass up the smoked beer. (Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Märzen, I'm fairly sure: aka liquid bacon.) Several beers on tap, and the bottled selection can't be beat around here. An impressive comeback that can only get better.

The staff is busy, warm, and happy; the room needing a little more "Zither" feel. The actual veal schnitzels were almost at the old Yorkville standards, the Spätzle was the best we've had this side of Bavaria, a decent little salad came with it, and the wine is reasonable and good. The food is improved since they were on 5th Avenue. There was a good crowd of happy folk including kids. We shall go again.

Came here for a friend's birthday party a few weeks ago and loved it!! I got there a little early…read moreso the hosts just had me sit at the bar and the first thing I noticed was the laid-back, friendly vibe - welcoming to families with kids or a squadron of 30-somethings who just wanna yap. Spoiler-alert, we were the chatty millennials. The menu is pretty expansive and just about everything we had was delicious. Wings, pretzel, sausage - all of it! Also there was tons of space and given the rain that day, it was lovely to be in a spacious interior with still plenty of daylight from the skylight. I would love to come back here again and it seems like a great place for sports-watching!

Black Forest on Smith Street is a very cute German bier garden. It has the rustic vibe and community atmosphere down pat to keep it feeling like a neighborhood watering hole with traditional German fare. We ordered our German pilsners (which tend to have a maltier taste) and I also had the Grapefruit beer which was a little too sweet instead of tangy/sour for what I was expecting though I still enjoyed it. We came hungry so ordered the pork tenderloin schnitzel with spicy kale and potato salad, a pretzel, and a couple brat wurst with fries. The bratwurst were personally my favorite, and I loved the German mustard they came with. The portions were well sized and the sausage meats were juicy. The pork tenderloin schnitzel was good, but nothing for me to immediately write home about. I enjoyed the spicy kale and pickled potato salad maybe more than the schnitzel itself, though next time would come in just for the brat and the beer alone. This is a great neighborhood spot I hope to return to soon. Oh and we got 6th place in trivia! (Not much thanks to me on that one...)

In addition to McDonalds, Burger King and Taco Bell we have the long resident Wendy's franchise. For many this is the preferred option but I myself try to give equal time to the mainstays when I choose to have this kind of fare for supper or a lunch hang with friends. While I am not someone who can consider themselves a regular based on the infrequency of visits, I can say that its maybe once every six weeks or so. I do find myself stopping here when I work the Elections on the dinner break because of the location and relative value of what I purchase. What draws me here is the "4 for $4" option or their "Biggie Bag. The latter having been the choice for the most part as it came with a sandwich, small fries, nuggets and a drink. This would run you between $5 and $6 depending on your sandwich choice. My usual here would be the Chicken BLT and spicy nuggets and a Sprite with limited ice. There are no options for the French fries and its just a small order of them. I find that this fills me up rather nicely and as mentioned its easy on the pocket during a time when everyone is watching the finances. This location has a WiFi signal and a spacious upstairs seating area and bathrooms. All are great things to find when when is popping in and deciding to sit down for a little bit as opposed to getting right back to the hustle. I can close by saying that many of the other options might appeal to you more than this but they are pricier and right now I'm looking to save whenever possible. This lets me indulge reasonably.
