I don't usually write reviews but this is the worst chinese food I have ever tried to eat. The food has a weird chemical taste, but no actual food flavor. I usually love house fried rice, but this is so gross and the oil is some taste I don't recall. The color is dark orange and the chicken is boiled and rubbery. I am visiting the area, and ordered extra for tomorrow but can't even eat a portion for today. I am truly shocked they are in business. I didn't read the yelp reviews. Absolutely a disgusting place. The steamed dumplings look like uncooked empanadas, so thick and unappealing. read more

I'm going to have to tell the new guy at work the bad news... Aurora Chinese is *incredibly* mediocre. If this is someone's "go-to" place for Chinese, please tell them to venture elsewhere. Not inedible, just very bland and unappealing. If you're in the Penfield zone, there's Hong Wah and Pattaya Thai within hailing distance. I'm certain they're both a better choice! read more

Dried up frozen food and bright yellow fried rice! sweet and sour chicken was neither sweet nor sour just surgery sweet. the egg rolls were inedible mushy and tough at the same time!! We've been coming here for years.  We just had food delivered again last night.  They are open on almost all of the holidays, and we usually even order from them on Christmas day.  Our delivery yesterday, on the 4th of July, was incredibly fast.  It was 30 minutes exactly, and we were surprised when they pulled in the driveway because it was so fast. I almost always get sesame tofu with the sauce on the side.  Last night I got honey tofu with the the sauce on the side.  The honey sauce is less heavy than the sesame sauce, and it's kind of like a warm, diluted honey.  It was good, and I get both pretty regularly.  I like their fried tofu in the small squares.   We also got fried donuts, which are always good.  We tried the french fries, which were ok.  I wouldn't go out of my way for them, but I would order them again.  My husband is not vegetarian, so he has a lot more options than me, and has probably eaten almost everything on the menu at least once.  Chinese food is one of his favorite types of food.  I just stick with my tofu. :) This is one of our favorite Chinese restaurants in Rochester.  We've ordered from them a lot.  I'm sure we'll order from them again.  We always get it to go or have it delivered.  They do have a sitting area, but it's rather small.  I'd recommend getting it to go. read more

I ordered a spring roll, which was the only thing that was good. But the Panang chicken was super sweet, with very few veggies. Those veggies were mushy, not the tender crisp, I expect in Chinese cuisine. I was very disappointed in this meal. SO BAD. I was on the road, finishing up work appointments, and starving. I tried one other Chinese restaurant, but the wait for pick up was over an hour. SO, I thought "why not?" Well, here's why... It's absolutely awful. I got "fresh spring rolls with shrimp" and Kung Pao chicken to go. I also requested fried rice vs white. When I opened the spring roll container, the wrappers, and thus the spring rolls, were totally adhered to the container. Beyond that, they were each filled with plain shredded lettuce and two small, disgusting, limp shrimp. I tried to pull one of the rolls off the container and it just stretched open & the contents ended up in my hand--the wrapper still completely stuck on the container. Threw them away. The Kung Pao chicken wasn't. The chicken was hammered, and it had mini corn, mushrooms, zero spice, and literally 2 peanuts in the entire order. The "fried rice" seemed to be white rice that was thrown in some used cooking oil. I ended up throwing it all out. Very disappointing. read more

The restaurant has a few 2 top tables. It was clean and inviting for the little nook it was. We ordered.... Shrimp roll, little shrimp n lots of cabbage Spring roll small n crispy Hot and sour soup was not terribly spicy but chuck full of tofu, mushrooms etc and had a good consistency and flavor Green onion pancakes were the least oily n doughy I've had, generally pleasant Garlic shrimp, I've seen a lot of yelp complaints for lack of shrimp in other restaurants, probably 10 big shrimp in the order. I loved the green beans in the assortment of veggies. The sauce was abundant, flavorful, not spicy, although labeled that way on the menu. Veg lo mein was not very flavorful. Scallion beef was tender, tons of scallions and delicious sauce, again not spicy, although labeled as such. Sesame chicken, sweetish sauce, the chicken was a bit over done for my liking. They have some Thai options that looked appealing. read more

I've been ordering from Aurora since i was a kid. I ordered from them last night, and was very disappointed. I ordered the dinner combo of Lemon Chicken with Pork Lo Mein, and my partner ordered the Singapore Mei Fun. We both also had the fresh shrimp rolls. The fresh shrimp rolls were filled with 99% browning iceberg lettuce, a few strands of rice noodles and an old tasting small shrimp or two. Then the whole mess was wrapped up in a single layer of rice paper, so thin that it ripped if you looked at it funny. There was lettuce all over the room. The Singapore Mei Fun was bland, flavorless, and about 95% noodles. There was an odd piece of chicken and shrimp here and there. Half a jar of curry powder and some Sriracha made it borderline edible. Finally, the lemon chicken. The chicken itself wasn't terrible, battered like a fish fry, and crisp. The lemon sauce tasted more like cornstarch thickened sugar water that someone threw a lemon past. It was way too sweet, with barely a hint of lemon. The Lo Mein, as the theme goes, was 95% noodles, with a few pieces of overcooked pork and vegetables spaced throughout. The best part was the service. Very polite, and VERY fast. The food arrived Piping hot. I'm not sure if they were having a bad day, or if this is a trend (I certainly hope not). The delivery man is the same one that used to deliver to our house nearly 18 years ago, so I hope ownership hasn't changed. I will give them another try, and hope for the best! read more

Not a great experience. We ordered General Tso's, pork fried rice, eggrolls, fried pork dumplings, and Singapore noodles. The General Tso's chicken was decent. That is really the only good thing I can say about this place, other than that the woman who handed me my takeout order was nice. Singapore noodles were extremely bland. There were a few stray vegetables, a couple of pieces of pork and chicken, and a couple of very old-tasting shrimp pieces. That's OK, I can always avoid the shrimp, and spice up the noodles with soy sauce and curry powder and Sriracha...but for a dish that's advertised as spicy (and that's supposed to be curry flavored) this was extremely disappointing. The same with the eggrolls -- bland and unremarkable -- and the fried rice -- bland and no vegetables whatsoever. Just stale rice that was stir-fried with some soy sauce, maybe. The dumplings, though, were the absolute worst dumplings I've ever eaten. Doughy, undercooked, chewy, bland...just gross. I can usually put away a whole container of dumplings by myself, but I ate one of these and threw the rest in the trash. I know most Chinese takeout places rely on frozen dumplings, but these were worse than anything I've bought from the Asian market (or even Wegmans, for that matter) and steamed or fried myself. We won't be back to this place. read more

I don't order take out very often but Aurora is always our "go to" for Chinese. The portions are incredibly generous for the price. Once we asked for delivery and it took an hour and a half so I don't recommend their delivery service but their food is wonderful and worth the drive to pick it up. I have one complaint. I usually order their Seafood Platter which has imitation crab. This is a horrible brand they use. The texture is like a paste made from flour and water. There are much better brands available that have a much better mouth feel that is more like fish than this pasty stuff they're using but that's really the worst thing I found about them. If you want a delicious filling meal that won't break your bank I highly recommend Aurora! read more

I had Hunan chicken which turned my stomach. The sauce was greasy and blend. The chicken was disgusting! It didn't look or taste right. As I started to separate the chicken pieces, I started noticing flattened out feet, beaks, wing tips and other mashed up pieces that may have been internal entrails. Needless to say it went right into the garbage disposal. I was extremely disappointed and will never go there again. My wife let me have some of her sesame chicken which looked normal and tasted good. read more

Honestly the food was pretty good. I was just so frustrated because we ordered delivery at 6:30 tonight and by 8 pm it still hadn't been delivered. So I called and let them know and the lady was like "yaaa sorry we are just really busy tonight so you can come pick it up if you want!" And that was annoying bc we purposefully got delivery so we wouldn't have to leave the house so I told her this and she's like ok well the best we can do is 25 minutes. So basically they didn't even make our food until an hour and a half after ordering which is not ok. It would probably be great to pick up but definitely would not recommend for delivery! read more

Picked up take out one Friday ago. General Ts and the dumplings. Pork fried rice on the side. Food was hot and tasty. Very nice family business. They delivered to my house in Penfield last month. Nice people that care about their customers. I would highly recommend a takeout order. There's a couple tables at the location also. Bravo! read more

They are so nice at Aurora, and they make great tofu. I ordered veggie fried rice here and got a little skeeved out by a errant carrot/piece of pork. The fact that I (an 11 year vegetarian) was confused about the identity of a piece of food set me off from the whole meal. However, the woman working kindly offered to get me something else. I went with some tofu (i had had it there twice before) and was very happy with my choice, yet again. Also, their fresh veggie spring rolls and the accompanying sauce were very delicious. I would definitely order them again. Overall i was very satisfied with the customer service and experience. P.S. - the seating area is available to eat in, but don't trust the characterization that "the place was dead so I should have known it wouldn't be good" - i think most orders are carry out . . . I've eaten here twice and I felt both times the food was terrible the people who work in there are very sketchy and on one occasion I was going in there to give them a third chance and saw there 10 11 year old daughter cooking in there so I walked out immediately I will not eat someplace where a child who is not wearing gloves or is of the age to be handling food for sale. I honestly make sure when someone asks me about this plce to never eat there and to try original Steve diner or perhaps Europa deli cafe. read more

The food is quite delicious, arrives quickly (no more than 9 minutes waiting for a pretty big order) and you are given quite a lot of food. Our family thinks of this place as the #1 place in Rochester for wonderful Chinese take-out as we've tried a bunch on the east side. Highly recommend! read more

Ordered some takeout here. Even in an area with an excess of mediocre Chinese restaurants, this one was really unimpressive. Our fried dumplings were fairly badly burned on the bottom, but to add insult to injury, the pork filling was utterly flavorless. The entrees were merely adequate, at best--again, very little flavor. The staff was certainly pleasant, but that doesn't make up for the food. read more

I thought we would try this due to the delivery option. The food took a hour and 10 minutes to arrive. It was still pretty warm, so I was happy. However the quality wasn't very good. The items tasted reheated and I have never had dumplings with so much dough! Lo mein was very dry. The white rice was beyond over cooked. My husbands chicken dish was almost rock hard. Just no. I found this place by googling instead of going Yelp (my first mistake). When I got there, several hours before closing time, it was completely dead. So dead in fact, that there wasn't even anyone at the front desk. That should have been enough to make me leave. Instead, I persevered. I ordered. Vegetable lo mein. General Tso's Tofu. Dumplings. Egg roll. I wanted to get a good feel for the food. First, the tofu was devoid of any flavor and incredibly spongy. Too spongy. If you like a very soft, bland tofu maybe you would like it. Inedible in my opinion. Second, the vegatable lo mein was also flavorless and I would estimate its content at 98% noodle, 2% vegetable. Vegetables included sparse bits of cabbage and a few stray lumps of broccoli. Third, the egg roll. It was alright. Easily the most flavorful part of the meal, but that's not saying much. It was edible. Lastly, the dumplings. I thought these might be the saving grace. How can you screw up a dumpling? Unfortunately, these too were flavorless, as well as doughy. I will not go back. Kind of a surprise! I wasn't expecting much, as the restaurant was very small and rather ugly. However, despite the unimpressive interior of the place, the food was very inexpensive (less than $8 for most menu items) and surprisingly good. I'd recommend doing carry out as there are only a couple of small tables in the place. read more
