I ordered stir-fry with fresh ginger, BUT there's no fresh ginger; they used ginger powder. The PadThai noodles are sloppily cooked, though the shrimp is good. Overall, there's little hint of Thai flavors in any of the dishes we ordered. The worst part is racism and a lack of professionalism. The oriental lady at the counter gave me a quizzical look and asked What is your nationality' - as if my nationality mattered when picking up an order or answering my question. Please speak respectfully and exercise professionalism. You're also a person of colour who should be respecting people regardless of colour. We used to like the food and were impressed with their customer service. Needless to say, that's the last time I'd patronize this place. read more

Tried a new restaurant tonight Saks Thai Cuisine. We tried Pad Thai, Chicken Panang Curry and Siam Rolls. IMPORTANT: they are not seating inside today. We didn't know that so we were disappointed (we were hoping to sit down) but decided to order anyway. In general the food was hot and delicious. Siam Rolls were a bit burnt (see picture) but the insides were the best we have had in a while. Chicken & Shrimp Pad Thai was delicious but not as spicy as I normally like it. The person who took the order recommend 3/5 but next time I will go with 4/5. NOTE: I would not get shrimp again because some shrimp tails were still on I had to double check before eating. Delicious but unnecessarily messy. Chicken Panang Curry was perfect ; although not enough rice. Service: limited to person taking the order in the lobby of the restaurant. Honestly, when Linda and I first walked in she was not very friendly or welcoming. I came close to walking out while we explored the menu, however, we decided to give her a chance after another customer noticed her attitude towards us and spoke up. Somehow that helped and the dynamic changed. In summary: as much as I enjoyed the food. The interaction with the person who took the order was unpleasant enough that I will probably not be back for a while. Spending $60 for dinner where you can't sit down and not be treated in a friendly way doesn't make sense to me when there are other options. Message to owner: the person taking the order for your restaurant is representing your restaurant so if that person is not friendly to your customers it will impact return business. The food was delicious so I will be back. I am hoping the customer service experience is better next time. read more

Favorite Thai restaurant in the city. We used to think this restaurant was too far away, but ironically we moved to Fairport and now there are absolutely no down sides. Great food, generous portions and fair prices. The service is also pleasant and food comes out pretty quickly. My regular dishes include the Tom Yum Soup, Curry puffs, Pad Thai and Green Curry. As someone who lives in the city and goes to the parent restaurant Khongs Thai Cuisine this was a place I wanted to go to but to be frank it's just the distance and than you have to wonder if it's worth a visit. I would say yes and no. It's located in a small strip mall, you could easily pass it if you don't know the area. I had no idea what this place looked like inside or what to expect. Some said be prepared to be ignored and wait.. guess what it's true. Now it was a Tuesday night and we made a reservation at 6 pm for about eight people. There was another table of the same amount they got served and what not and left way before we did. The place was not that busy but it just seemed forever to order or reorder anything than the wait for the food seemed to take FOREVER. This was a Tuesday not a weekend but whatever. Maybe they got hit up with take out orders. Everyone seemed happy with their dishes like the Tom Kar Soup, Fresh Spring Rolls, Siam Rolls, Pad Thai, Duck dish and more. Everything was fresh and tasty. I went the safe route and got the Chicken Pad Thai they give you a lot I had enough for lunch the next day. Than the Siam Rolls with that Chili Dipping Sauce it was great. I'll have to try other things and the pork dumplings looked fabulous. All in all the food is worth the trip. The inside is lovely all the Thai art; the color scheme of the place inside was all light cream/coffee colors. Staff is pleasant enough, but when telling the server numerous times one person could not have peanuts something came out with it.. whatever. Service is slow... and yes you may wait for a bit for things. Is it worth a return visit yes as long as someone else is driving. Ha ha... Highway from the city is 20 minutes if you take Monroe about 30 minutes. Shared parking lot. By far my favorite Asian restaurant in the Rochester area... Possibly my favorite restaurant. Saks resides in a non-descript little plaza in Egypt just east of Perinton on Rt 31. Kind of a dark facade so if you're not looking for it you won't find it... And if you do you might not give it a second look... but you definitely should. Walk through the door and you are greeted by two tastefully decorated, serene dining areas. The staff is fantastic... It's been the same four or five primary servers for years. Always gracious and helpful. Lunches are served promptly and dinners at a more relaxed pace. Perfect The menu is extensive and caters to both the lover of spicy food and the more, shall we say, delicate guests... Spicy is on a scale from one to six and this is not the place to prove that you have an iron constitution. I like hot and 3 makes me sweat. That's not a challenge so suit yourself if you want to take it as one... And good luck! I recommend fresh spring rolls or curry puffs for appetizers. Both are fantastic! For entree I like Prinking (spicy chili) or Gatiem (garlic) but you won't be disappointed with the Udon or any of the other dishes. A pot of hot tea is a nice addition to the meal as well. Everything is nicely presented when it comes to the table. Also a great place for takeout. I frequently stop by on the way home for work, sometimes for dinner and sometimes just for the yummy spring rolls. If you like Thai, make the drive out to Egypt and try Saks (adopting a pet at Lollypop is optional.) I'm confident that you will want to come back with your friends! Quick note, check their hours. Arrived in Macedon last week, here for a month. Two Thai restaurants in proximity, Sak's was the closer of the two. They only do carry out, which was not a problem. Called in the order about 7pm, was told 15 minutes. Arrived in about 10 minutes, waited about 5 minutes for the kitchen to finish doing it's thing, so the time was accurate. We ordered Pad Kee Mao (Drunken noodles) with pork and Green curry with tofu. The noodles had a little different flavors than we've had in other places, but really good, and lots of vegetables. Only knock is that the pieces of pork could have been cut a little smaller. Would I order this specific dish again? Yes. The curry was really good too, my only knock on it is the baby corn... so 80s. Would I order this specific dish again? Yes. As for spice level, the woman taking my order did not ask, so I decided to see what the kitchen put out. Both dishes were what I would term about 6/10. in terms of spice level. Will we go here again? Yes. We'll order different dishes next time, but that's just because we like variety. read more

I like most of the food at Sak's Thai, but the pickup process here is absolutely atrocious. I imagine this problem may only be on the weekends, but feel I have to write about it. Called for pickup around 5:30, which seemed early to me and they said it would be an hour. This didn't bother me since I don't mind waiting but one hour is a lot. Then went to pick up the food and see about 15 people waiting in the restaurant for their pickup. The owner came around and kept telling people their food would be ready in 15 minutes, which I found hard to believe. So I left and came back 45 minutes later, and the food still wasn't ready. Almost 2 hours for takeout is really insane. And I would have been OK with this if the owner seemed apologetic, gave us realistic timelines or updates, or offered a discount etc. I'll probably won't order from them anytime soon. read more

Best Thai food in Rochester. I come to Sak's for lunch with my colleagues often. Everything I've tried is great. The ingredients are always fresh and service is on point, even during the lunch rush. I believe it's the only place you can get curry puffs in Rochester and they're delicious - light flakey outside with a very flavorful mixed vegetable and ground chicken stir fried curry filling, complimented well by a peanut based dipping sauce. I usually order the House Noodles but tried the Chicken Panang today. I think I found a new favorite! read more

ST was very busy on a Saturday evening which is to be expected. The restaurant is decorated very nicely. There are 2 sides to the restaurant with plenty of tables. Per everyone's suggestions we ordered the curry puffs. You expect the puffs to be super crunchy, but they are soft and flaky. The curry inside the puffs was delicious! They are a filling appetizer. I ordered the Thai iced tea and it was on the sweet side, which I loved! Usually when one orders this drink, it has that tiny bit of bitterness if you know what I mean. One of my go to dishes is beef pad Thai which I had to order. The beef was soft and the combination of noodles and egg was amazing. Best pad thai I've had in Rochester! The waitress suggested we order the gang dang (red curry), it had a spicy kick to it. I couldn't eat a lot of it but it was great. It was creamy and the basil and veggies with the beef combination, delicious! The service is quite slow, 3 people serving the whole entire restaurant. The hostess is also the waitress. We waited a long time to get our order taken and for the food to arrive. (Usually Asian restaurants have a very quick turn around time from ordering to getting your food.) This restaurant is worth the drive! There is plenty of parking since its in a plaza. I'll be coming back! read more

I had a really great experience here the other night with the International Supper Club. I am so glad that this was started, and Sak's was a great choice to get things rolling. My first impression was - "WHY SO FAR AWAY!?!?!" Living on the north side of town, I don't venture over this way very often. But the drive was well worth it! As far as ambiance goes, the restaurant is very relaxing. The colors, the lighting, and the decor all work together to create a very calming space. Place settings were beautiful, and the chairs were comfortable. There is a definite space for larger groups which is always a plus. I sampled the shrimp in a blanket for an appetizer and was pleased. They were mild but flavorful. I like spice, but this particular night I wasn't in a spicy mood, so these fit right in. I snagged one of the curry puffs that had been ordered. They were tasty - reminded me more of Indian food, but I enjoyed them as well. To drink I ordered a Thai iced tea. And let me tell you this was the BEST part of my meal. It was sweet and had a woodsy flavor to it. It reminded me somewhat of a rooibos tea in terms of flavor. I'm not a tea expert, though I love tea, and this was perfect. I sipped it slowly and it lasted all evening. That almost never happens! I wanted to savor every bit of it! For my entree, I selected the Pad Woon Sen, a noodle dish that has "clear glass noodles stirfried with bamboo shoots, white onion, julienned carrots, tomatoes, bean sprouts, and scallion." Mine came with baby corn which I promptly picked out, and there was also egg in the mix. I do not believe I had any scallion or bean sprouts. This could have been because of what is in season or available. Aside from the loathsome baby corn, I was very happy with my dish. I ordered it with seafood (the scallops were perfect and the shrimp gigantic!). It was mild but still flavorful. On a side note, I did take some leftovers home, but was not as happy. The texture of the glass noodles later or was too slimy, and I could taste a sweetness that I didn't when I ate it at the restaurant. Our server was kind and polite. When we had questions he answered them or ran off to find the answer. It was great for those of us who have some dietary restrictions. Meals are reasonably priced, with seafood options increasing the cost. I would definitely come back again, and I'd probably go for a more spicy dish to experience the gamut of Thai flavors! read more

We really enjoyed our visit to Sak's! I started off with a Thai milk tea which was delicious and had the perfect amount of sweetness. For an appetizer we ordered the curry puffs which were fried perfectly and packed with flavorful vegetables and chicken. We shared squid udon noodles and chicken Thai fried rice. Both were exceptional and we left with a ton of leftovers. I will warn everyone that their spice level is different than any other Thai restaurant I have been to. I typically order a spice level 3 but the waiter suggested I start with level 1. I am glad I took his word for it because that was more than enough spice! read more

We were in the area for the day and wanted to grab dinner before heading home. The reviews for Sak's looked great so we decided to give them a try. From the outside, this is just your generic strip-plaza restaurant. But inside, they've actually fixed it up nicely. There was a chandelier in the main dining area, lots of thai decor, pergo floors, etc. We started with the gaeng jeud and tom yum nam khoon. Both were delicious and jam-packed with protein and veggies. My boyfriend got Sak's signature noodles and I ordered the Thai spicy noodles. Both arrived in large bowls. My boyfriend's looked more like a soup than a stir-fry. His was also so spicy that he found it difficult to eat (he ordered it 2 on a scale of 5). Mine was good taste-wise but the noodles were so overcooked they were falling apart and just mushy. The service was a little slow, which was surprising considering the fact that the restaurant was only half full. Portion sizes were very good, but quality of the entrees could have been better. read more

In short: worst service I've EVER had in a restaurant, mostly bland dishes, and a rude owner. Long story: I had ordered takeout here maybe 3-4 weeks ago, and was surprised by how well-done the interior was. So tonight we ventured in for the sit-down experience. What a mistake. Upon being seated, we quickly realized that we were surrounded by people staring at the kitchen door. Not a good sign. Start the clock. And check the clock's batteries. And drink a coke, to make sure you're still awake when this story ends. My apologies if you miss your grandchildren's high school graduation in the process. Highlight of the night, BY FAR, was the curry puffs appetizer. Fantastic! I will miss them, as there's no chance in hell that I'll ever have them again. It would be like going to the dentist to snack on some bubble-gum flavored toothpaste. Just not worth it. The other highlight: at least half of the restaurant appears quite lovely. Almost great, if not for the mismatched cool-white light bulbs (a pet peeve of mine), tacky rope lights around the window, and a lack of background music to mask the crappy service. And the service was stunningly crappy. The food, when it finally arrived... blah. "Signature" noodle? I wouldn't sign that. Pho? Looked like water, and the seafood was as tasteless as tofu. And if anybody is unfamiliar, tofu is tasteless. As tasteless as Sak's seafood. It's a circle-of-life kind of thing. This culinary fork-in-the-eye clocked in at AN HOUR AND FORTY MINUTES. I concluded the night standing at the cash register, waiting for a check to arrive, having earlier given up the effort in the dining room. And here's where the last kick to the culinary-groin arrives. I assumed, maybe unfairly, that our waitress was the owner. But I think she was. If she wasn't, the real owner should fire her for her indifference. When she finally arrived to grace me with my check's presence, she was less-than-interested in asking about my experience. But my numb butt and snoring tastebuds earned this moment, so I went all Dr Phil on her. "This was our first time dining here, and I gotta say, that service was terrible." This is when she redeemed herself, right? Nope. She smiled and began pointing out people that were still seated and waiting for food, and rattling off how long they had been waiting. Seriously. She was spinning around pointing out the other guests they were ignoring. That's how you apologize, by admitting you're giving everybody crappy service? And this next part I'm embarrassed by, as I can honestly say that I'm a ridiculously-generous tipper. Like, 25% and then rounding up, even when service is uneventful. And what did I do? I drew a line. Nada. Probably the first time I've EVER tipped less than 20%. EVER. And I tipped zero. I turned to walk out the door, and as the door closed behind me I heard her call out. I stopped, turned around and propped the door open, asking, "excuse me?" She pointed at the woman standing next to me, and bragged, "she's been waiting an hour and a half for takeout." This place is amazing. By far my go to Thai place in the Rochester area. The outside is a bit uninteresting, but the inside decor is very nice. The place is larger than expected, and the menu has a lot of option. I like the broad array of proteins to choose from for each dish. It makes it a great way to get some variety. Especially for me being pescatarian. I can actually get different things in each dish. The seafood is always fresh and all the dishes have been excellent. I usually order 2 dishes between 2 people to share, and always have tons of leftovers. I've tried 2 different curries, the Pad Thai, and a noodle dish (can't remember the name). The best Thai food in the area. It's not even close. Pad Thai is excellent. Spring rolls are excellent. Saks noodles are really good. Larb gai is very good. Just watch out for the heat! I like spice but they can sometimes overdo it with the heat (ask for mild heat level unless you have no heat sensitivity whatsoever). One of the frustrating things about this restaurant - and it predates Covid - is their takeout process. Especially when they are busy, it can be hard to get someone to pickup the phone. And they will underestimate the order time. (e.g., tell you it will take 45 minutes when it ends up taking closer to 2 hours) I've complained about this as have others. The key to avoiding this frustration is to order well in advance of when you want to pick-up the food (e.g., 2 hours). And don't bother ordering during peak business hours - Friday / Saturday night - because all bets are off. Instead, order before. read more
