I walked in the door and the place hasn't changed much, but seems since Covid to have increased the amount of To-go business they do as half of the dining space has been designated and seems to have stacks of containers ready to be packed.. The Food was amazing. I had mango chicken, others in my party had pad Thai and spicy curry chicken.. it was amazing, quick, fresh and well priced. I was thinking about this place the other day, but had to really go searching to find the name. Several years ago, I went to visit a friend in Rochester. My family and I had never had Thai food before and this was where my friend's family wanted to go. They love it so much and wanted to share. The inside is beautiful, but the food was the real beauty. We got several dishes to share family style. The panang fish is something my husband and I still talk about a decade later. Now that we live in New York, we always tease that maybe it's worth the 5.5 hour drive to go eat there again. After passing this place for years, my son picked up dinner for my birthday. I ordered Chicken Pad Thai, and we shared a order of spring rolls and some Tom Yum soup with shrimp. Both the soup and the spring rolls were great, but the Pad Thai had no discernable sauce or bean sprouts, and a scant amount of peanuts. The slice of lime was inadequate, like 1/2 slice. It pains me to give a low review, but our experience at Pattaya left us wanting more and made me realize I won't return on future trips back to Rochester. I ordered the Cashew Chicken and my partner got the Pad Prik Khing Beef, we shared the fresh shrimp spring rolls. Overall the food was very mediocre...the meat tasted low quality and rubbery, the white rice was old and had dark grains in it. My partner said the meat tasted boiled. The fresh shrimp spring rolls were 90% old wilted lettuce. The staff was also impatient with us, and seemingly annoyed at every request. Pretty solid Thai food. Got it was takeout. Everything looks the same but the taste was like surprisingly much better than I expected. We got the pad Thai with shrimp. Shrimp looked sketch like the frozen little ones but the taste was like omg this is good! Pad Kee ew wasnt too spicy but flavor and texture of the beef was great. Was the Thai Tea good here? I could Taya but I'd have to kill ya. But my father knows, so if you hold on a second, I can have my Pa Taya. This is a review for the Thai Tea only. Which is typical of me, really. I like to try Thai Tea (since I'm so in love with it) at all kinds of Thai restaurants, and then if I love the tea or the service, I'll go back soon and try the Thai Green Curry and other dishes. If I don't love the tea, I still might go back, it will take longer. I was sad that nobody was in here on the day I went. It seems like they're struggling so I feel bad for giving a 3. And if you're in Pitt and you're looking to fix several flats that you have, you're in the wrong place. You were probably looking for PA-tire. But Pattaya scores a 3 for the tea alone, which is actually pretty bad. The cup was super small, and it was filled with mostly ice. The taste of the tea itself reminded me of chemicals. It wasn't awful, so I still had most of it and sort-of enjoyed it, however I didn't finish it (which I would have if I'd liked it, since I was very thirsty). What's more, it cost $3.25, which for such a small cup was too pricey. Of course I didn't like it anyway so I'm okay with it. But if it'd been 1.90 or 2.25 or something, I may have given them a 4 since it wasn't awful and 3 is the lowest rating I give to family businesses. And if your feet are sore, why not go and see a Pattayatrist. And if you get involved in a hot steamy encounter in the bathroom here, is that a Pattaya-tryst? Yes. read more

For all the years that Pattaya has been here, I've only recently ventured inside. I was recently looking for a place to take a friend for lunch, and we decided that Thai would be good, and Pattaya was close. We arrived just around 11:45 for lunch. The parking lot was fairly empty and we were lucky to get a booth. As soon as noon rolled around, the place filled up. That's always a good sign. I ordered a Pad Prik Pao with Chicken lunch special. The meal came with a small portion of tom yum soup, and the speed at which the food came out was exceptional. My friend ordered a pad thai and was really happy with it. I also ordered a thai iced tea - but I wasn't in love with it. It was much sweeter than some of the others I've had at various restaurants, and not spicy enough. Our server was pleasant, and I can offer no real complaints. Even thought the decor is somewhat out of date, it is still pleasant and sitting in a booth was really favorable. I always hate having to pull out left onto 441 - and this is the biggest complaint I have. At lunch time or rush hour, its quite difficult. I ended up doing a right turn and back tracking. read more

Pattaya Thai is a very nicely decorated restaurant on the main street in Penfield, with a very traditional and respectful family ambience. My friend and I visited early (like before 5pm) on a Sunday to get in a little dinner before a walk in Corbett's Glen in the sunshine. We were the only ones there when we arrived. The service was super fast and the server was accommodating in offering us a range of spice levels to choose from (1 through 5, for both our appetizer and the main dish). For an appetizer, we had the som tom (shredded green papaya with lime juice and ground peanut, along with lettuce wraps to eat it with) which as you can imagine was quite sour but delicious. This comes vegetarian and I would recommend it. For the entree, I had the gaeng masaman curry (yellow curry & coconut stewed with sweet potato and peanuts, also vegetarian), which I really enjoyed. I know this is a popular dish but I have not had it before, so I could not say how it compares to that of other establishments. The bill came to $35 altogether before tip, which was a little pricey compared to take-out, but for how lavish and comfortable the setting was, and how nice the surface, was entirely reasonable. My only complaint was that I thought our server seemed a little rude at times (although it may have just been a confusion in communication) and furthermore, both my dining companion and I felt a little bit queasy for close to 20-30 minutes after finishing our food. That keeps me from wholeheartedly recommending this place. Especially when I enjoyed a meal at Khong Thai recently (just eight minutes away) that was just as delicious if not more, and in a much more youth-oriented and casual dining setting (although such may not appeal to everyone). Overall, Pattaya Thai is a very good restaurant, and I was very happy with what I had to eat in terms of the tastes. Just be careful and see if it feels like a good vibe when you go in. I'd recommend it to anyone in the Penfield area, particularly based on the beautiful interior decoration. read more

Very good Thai restaurant! We're new to this side of town so I'm excited to have found a good thai restaurant close by. They have their own parking lot which is always a plus. We were promptly seated and serviced. We started with the fresh spring rolls and shumai. Then we got seafood cashew, pad Thai with shrimp and tofu, and drunken noodles (level 4 spice is spicy!). Stopped in for dinner with a friend. We were able to get a seat immediately. Although the service was very quick, we did not feel rushed. We started with appetizers - fresh shrimp spring rolls and crab rangoons. The spring rolls were good, but nothing to really stand out. The crab was extraordinary. Deep fried and crunchy on the outside, melted cream cheese and crab on the inside - very good. For the main dish I had Panang chicken and my buddy had evil jungle squid. The curry was awesome! It was creamy and loaded with broccoli, red pepper, chicken and basil. My only complaint is that it wasn't very spicy. They have a rating of 1 to 5 stars ... I really like spicy food so I ordered the full 5. I would say it was a 3 at best. The flavor of the dish more than made up for it! Great restaurant, with just a couple notes for improvement: Food is very good the vast majority of the time. There is a younger crowd working there more now on the weekends (we've been going for many years). The kids understand English very well (perfectly), and are *very* kind and respectful...really great kids. The full understanding of English and clearly speaking it makes ordering and understanding an improved experience. The previous workers were also wonderful people, but there was a language barrier that affected the ordering process. No longer, so kudos to them for that. If you order pick-up/take-out, you MUST re-check the order either before you leave the restaurant or in your car. It will be wrong on occasion. Perhaps just ten percent of the time. Minor accidents, but you don't want to be frustrated and angry getting all the way home and not having the food you expected. That will sour you to a restaurant real quick. Ideally, perhaps the worker should go through the order with you before you pay, perhaps they need to actually show it to you, altho I understand that would be an inconvenience since it's pre-bagged before it gets to the cashier. That said, a suggestion for the restaurant: Have the menu items have NUMBERS attached to them. The meals are not always easy to pronounce, and just stating the number both makes it super-easy to order, as well as to CONFIRM the order, with I believe far less chance of mistakes. Each order can then have the number written on it to confirm it's in the take-out bag. I'd group them by categories; seafoods can be 10-19, vege-vegan dishes can be 20-29, etc...just an idea. I would think that would make them very distinct and easy to convey. P.S....OH...A BIGGIE...BE GREAT IF THERE WERE MORE PEANUT SAUCE OPTIONS. Went there with a group of 7 and had a great time! Service was efficient and the food quality was very good. I had the Spicy Chicken and asked for extra spice. Each spicy dish can be made extra spicy depending on your preference. Just enough heat to go along with flavor. Others in my party enjoyed Pad Thai and Fried Rice with shrimp. All dishes were spot on, including 2 that were made gluten-free. Don't forget to try the Spring Rolls! You can get them either Fresh or Crispy. I used to love this place... The Panang chicken is my favorite dish. it used to come with broccoli, snow peas, red peppers, zucchini and Thai basil. For the past year it's been only chk with broccoli, a few red peps and the basil. Last time I got it there was just chicken and broccoli. No fresh basil which is essential to this dish. it wasn't good and a few years ago I'd go almost once a week, now I'm not sure if I'll bother coming back. I have been eating at this restaurant with my family now for over 20 years. The head chef has been there for nearly 20 years as well, providing consistent, high quality Thai food at an affordable price. The owner Pam is amazing and server Michael memorize the names and orders of regular customers making you feel very welcome. Ordered the vegetarian panaeng and FYI it comes with tofu. Tofu isn't my thing and isn't listed as an ingredient so I was bummed, but flavor of dish was good. I removed the tofu and added more veggies but wish they noted this in their dish description. Not everyone likes tofu and people can have soy allergies. Also had the meekrob for appetizer. I used to work near Pattaya and came here for lunch often. After I changed jobs, I started visiting less frequently. While their dishes are still good, they have been getting more and more Americanized in their flavours :( But I still return because a good dose of nam pla prik will fix just about anything. I usually get the Pad Prik Khing or Evil Jungle. I have tried their Pad Thai and Pad See Ew but I have found both of them too sweet. I have co workers who swear by those dishes so this may just be my preference for a saltier noodle dish. The lunch specials come with a slightly sour chicken or veggie soup (depending on whether you ordered a vegetarian dish or not). The food comes out lightning quick. I love that they pile on the vegetables in their stir fries. You don't get a lot of meat but you definitely got 2 out of those 5 servings of vegetables you are supposed to be eating everyday! They offer nam pla prik if you want to add some serious heat to your dish. Please note that this is not vegetarian since the sauce in it is fish sauce. The service is always friendly and efficient. They will get you in and out well within your 1 hour lunch break. Definitely one of the better Thai places in town! read more
