Absolutely incredible food! We got the grilled haloumi appetizer, chicken shawarma bowl with chickpea salad, and a chicken kebab pita sandwich. All three were delicious and throughout our trip we kept talking about going back for more. The staff was very kind and quick, and they helped us make decisions when we felt stuck ordering (which spread to choose, for example). Been here twice and both times exceeded expectations. That's fairly tough given that I had raised the bar after the really good experience we had the first time. The food is not your typical adapted-to-American tastes ethnic restaurant. As far as I can tell, all the food I ordered was true to its origin, as was everything else in our party (except for the kids meal chicken nuggets, which were typical American style). I can recommend the lentil soup and the Jerusalem salad from personal experience but everyone in our party of six had something different and it was all good. The people are so friendly. The lady's favorite, butter chicken, is a little more Indian than Jordanian...to my taste. But she's Jordanian, so she'd probably know better. It's very good, and it's better than the chicken shwarma. Maybe my favorite thing was how good the Jerusalem salad was. In the middle of winter in the middle of Alaska, it's not always easy to find fresh and refreshing veggies as part of a dine-out meal. This nails it. Plus, some of the lightest falafel I've ever had! I'd read such great reviews for Aurora that I decided to stop in. I LOVE a good Greek salad and decided to give it a shot. I added the steak kabob to it. The salad was the size of a side salad. I was pretty disappointed. There was lettuce, a couple pieces of tomato and cucumber and barely any feta cheese. The dressing was a light vinegar. Thankfully, my partner ordered a side of hummus. It was quite good. There was an ample amount, silky smooth and served with pillowy, warm pita triangles. My partner got the Falafel wrap which was good but quite dry. It really needed more sauce. With all of that being said, we would try them again. I definitely would not get the tiny $17 salad but the place is clean, the service was decent and it didn't take my entire lunch hour to get the food. read more

Who knew that Fairbanks AK could offer such excellent Mediterranean food?! This was our first visit to Aurora and we were blown away. We had the Gyro Bowl, the Gyro Platter and a Kabob Wrap. For appetizers we had the baba ghanouj and the stuff grape leaves. Next time I'd pass on the grape leaves, but everything else was amazing. Looking forward to our next trip to Fairbanks! read more

I'll start by saying this, I've had some of the best mediterranean food in the world (I've had gyros and falafel in the actual Middle East) and Aurora is a very yummy place to eat, in Alaska of all places. To be totally honest, I thought most of the food in Alaska was lousy, bland and a rip off, but Aurora showed me that you can get tasty, fresh and filling mediterranean food here! The falafel here is great, they do it right, they are crunchy and firm and very tasty, not soggy. The salads are nicely chopped and fresh, and the gyro meat is done very well, it's not your typical pre-packaged gyro that a lot of cheap-strip mall gyro places serve, it is much fresher and well made. And for Alaska, which is an expensive place to eat even basic food, their prices are very reasonable. I was very happy with Aurora and I would recommend it heavily to anyone who wants something fresh and healthier than the usual fried/fast food stuff all around. Middle eastern owners = authenticity and good cooking skills, they do it well. The staff was nice too. 5/5 read more

So, I'm not from Fairbanks, I'm up here from Anchorage for work for two weeks. I'm so bummed I just found out about this place tonight, I leave Friday. I got the chicken kebab with tabouleh, babah ghanoush, tzatziki and garlic sauce. I know I butchered the spelling... Everything was amazing! Why only four stars? The kabab was delicious aside from a few pieces being rubbery. The tabouleh was delish but I thought there should be more grains. It was seriously a parsley salad. Most likely, I have always had a more grain than parsley tabouleh. The tzatziki was more watery than I'm used to but it was delicious to dunk the chicken in. The babah ghanoush (sp?) was AMAZING! If you are in Fairbanks, eat here!!! ^I wrote the above last night. I went there again tonight but ordered more of the babah ghanoush with some flat bread. So delicious! read more
