Japchae
Susie M.

While visiting Fairbanks, AK, we decided to try KC's Kitchen and overall we had a really good experience. The restaurant ambiance is very simple and nothing fancy, but it is spacious and comfortable. When we first arrived it was not very busy, but by the time we left it had filled up. We also noticed lots of pickup orders, which says a lot about its popularity. The food was good overall, with several dishes that stood out. For appetizers we ordered the potstickers, which were just okay and not very memorable. The calamari was unique and came in a rectangular shape, almost like mozzarella sticks. I had never seen calamari served that way before, but they were actually good. The fried chicken wings were a highlight, hot, crispy, and very enjoyable. The ranch was delicious and tasted homemade with herbs. For our main dishes the beef bulgogi came out on a sizzling plate and was very flavorful. The chicken katsu was nicely crispy with good seasoning, and the short ribs were also served sizzling with a yummy, almost teriyaki style sauce that we really enjoyed. The orange chicken with rice was good, though fairly standard. One dish that pleasantly surprised me was the japchae. It was my first time trying it and I loved the glass noodles and how fresh the vegetables tasted. Overall KC's Kitchen offers solid, comforting food with several standout dishes. While not everything was a wow, we left satisfied and would definitely come back if we are in Fairbanks again.

Mandu dumplings
Gretchen P.

Delicious hot variety of Korean and Asian dishes. Highly recommend for a quick, cozy lunch or dinner. I would come back to try all the main entrees. We loved the bibimbap, beef bulgogi, and fried glass noodle and pork dumplings. Small mom and pop spot with friendly service.

Amazing spicy bulgogi, the end result

This place is amazing, family owned and run. Friendly staff and solid portions, had the Spicy bulgogi, it was delectable. Highly recommend the restaurant.

Galbi.
Brian W.

The simple interior and standalone building hide what is surprisingly decent Korean food. Service is solid and portions are ample, too. Galbi is not the highest quality (don't expect it to compare to the best in k-town in Los Angeles, for example) but it's legit, and the haemul pajeon (seafood pancake) is a full big plate portion. Cucumer kimchi is not quite the style I like but it's close enough, and overall left quite pleased.

Beef with Veggies

I would want to actually give this place 4.5 stars if I could. The only issue I had was that the chicken ramen with egg dish looks like they use instant ramen noodles. The flavors were still good, though. The mandu dumplings were amazing. I would order them again! My husband ordered the beef and veggies dish, and my son ordered the beef bulgogi. Both were good. The bulgogi came to the table sizzling. It's our last day in Alaska, but when we come back to visit again, we would definitely be back here

Beef bulgogi and kimchi fried rice

The beef bulgogi and kimchi fried rice were delicious. Both big portions so we just shared with each other. Our server was very attentive too.

Beef Bulgogi (with side salad) and Crab Rangoon
Michelle S.

I went to KC's Kitchen for lunch. I was planning on taking out and only ordering the Crab Rangoon but once I got in there, I felt silly for just getting an app. I was seating kind of in the middle of the restaurant - right in front of the counter. I felt kind of silly sitting at a 4-top table by myself but noticed that there's only 4-top tables. Perhaps seating me on the other side by the window would've been a bit more comfortable but it was ok none-the-less. I did end up starting with the Crab Rangoon as I'd seen somewhere that they were the best they'd ever had. I also decided, that since I was there, I would get the Beef Bulgogi and just take some home for dinner. My soda was served cold in a can with a glass of ice which was fine. The Crab Rangoon came out piping hot. I let them sit for a minute so that I wouldn't scorch myself but it was only a minute - I couldn't stand it. The golden brown triangles were screaming at me. I took a tiny bite of the first one and got a hit of sweet. The memory in my head said "donut". I was confused. I took another bite and still sweet. I thought maybe the dipping sauce was super sweet. I dunked and it was more tart than sweet. I licked one, thinking maybe there was powdered sugar on them but it was not sweet. The filling was sweet as if sweet (maybe honey?) cream cheese was used. It wasn't what I was expecting. They'd be great for dessert as odd as that seems. The Bulgogi came out on a sizzling platter and placed in front of me along with a small bowl of dense rice and a side salad with a squeeze bottle of ranch dressing. I wasn't sure why the side salad but turns out it went really well with the dish. I found the beef to be overly stringy but the overall taste was good. I finished the Crab Rangoon thinking that they probably wouldn't heat as well as the Bulgogi and took half or more of the Bulgogi home for dinner. It was good, just a bit tough to eat.

Bulgogi and service was great but pretty expensive. $23 for a lunch sized serving seems a bit much.

We made a reservation for a larger group, yet the table wasn't ready when we arrived, and we ended up waiting much longer than expected. For a place that requires reservations, this was frustrating right from the start. The food was just okay--not terrible, but definitely not worth the price. Given our background and familiarity with Latin cuisine, we expected much more in terms of flavor and authenticity, especially considering the high cost of the dishes. The live music, which we were looking forward to, started about 30 minutes late. To make matters worse, when one of the band members didn't show up, the owner asked a member of our family--who happens to be a musician--to step in and play. Not only did this put us in an awkward position, but there was no acknowledgment or discount offered for his time, even though we had other plans to get to. Parking is also inconvenient, with only street parking or paid lot options available. The restaurant itself is very small, which does create a somewhat intimate atmosphere, but it also feels cramped for larger groups. While the owner comes across as friendly, it also felt like there was a strong focus on maximizing profit. There are multiple additional fees listed in very small print at the bottom of the menu--something that should be much more transparent or reconsidered altogether. Service overall was slow, and again, the pricing does not match the quality or experience provided. At this point, I wouldn't personally recommend this place unless there are significant improvements--better service, more consistent food quality, fairer pricing, clearer fee transparency, and better management of their live music arrangements.

When we arrived, we found out that you'd need a reservation to dine in the main dining hall, so we ended up going to the Saloon side where we had to find our own seats. We sat near the pool table, and the chairs were super unstable. The staff were fine but clearly seemed busy and understaffed. It took a long time for them to bring us water and take our order. I tried flagging the waitress 2-3 times when she was passing by and felt very ignored especially as I've made eye contact with her a few times. We ended up ordering the fried seafood combo and the seafood chowder, and it ended up taking at least 20min to come out (even the soup). The dishes were all very salty and definitely needed a lot of water to go with the food. Overall, definitely not a place to go before a flight since you might not be able to get in and out very quickly, and the food was really just alright for the price. Perhaps the main dining room experience would be better but I still wouldn't recommend it given the food quality and service.

I asked her which she preferred between 2 items and instead of giving me her opinion, she told me we're going with the 1st one because I said it 1st. I didn't think I'd be able to finish the entire meal but I made it happen because it was that good. My friend ordered the Dunker sandwich and it was equally delicious. The au jus was perfectly flavored and the consistency was spot on. I actually ate her leftovers for dinner, and if the leftovers were delicious, you can only imagine how it was freshly served. Very happy we came in and highly recommend!

Not everything you see halibut in egg rolls, but I had to get it. the panang curry was up there with some of the best panang curry I've ever had, and it came with a fairly hefty portion of halibut. Chu chee pla was good, although it tasted a bit similar to the panang curry. Pad see ew was very good, and it was quite a huge portion as well. Staff here were very friendly despite being extremely slammed. There were only two people taking care of the entire restaurant and one cook in the back. Despite all that, the food came out at a fairly reasonable pace. Much kudos to them for working so hard. Really enjoyed my trip to Bahn Thai. I guess there really is elite Thai food up in Fairbanks!

We ended up ordering beef noodle soup and the duck crepe, which both were surprisingly better than I expected. In a way I think the dishes might have tasted better without it although I appreciate the effort to add in some veggies. For the beef noodle soup, the broth and the meat was good and the egg noodle went well with it. My friend ordered the ramen version, and it was literally instant ramen noodles (not worth in my opinion). While you're able to dine in they operate more like a take out spot as all the utensils and boxes are using take out and disposable containers. Overall, not a bad spot if you're craving some Asian food.
