However, I believe my concern goes far beyond the policy itself. It is about fairness, empathy, and the overall patient experience. Patients are routinely expected to be understanding when physicians run behind schedule. On several occasions at this office, I have checked in on time only to wait anywhere from 90 minutes to two hours before being seen. Patients accept those delays because we recognize that emergencies happen and physicians sometimes fall behind. Why doesn't that same understanding extend to patients? On the morning of my appointment, I left home well in advance. I encountered severe thunderstorms, road closures, traffic diversions, and multiple accidents. After arriving at your parking lot, I spent more than 10 minutes driving around simply trying to find an available parking space. Had adequate parking been available, I would almost certainly have checked in within your stated grace period. Does the practice take situations such as severe weather, inadequate parking, and circumstances beyond a patient's control into consideration before cancelling an appointment that took six months to obtain? My greatest disappointment was not that I was asked to reschedule. It was the attitude of the front desk employee. There was no empathy, no willingness to listen, and no attempt to contact Dr. Zikusoka's clinical staff to determine whether I could still be accommodated. On previous visits, I have personally witnessed staff make those calls for other patients. Healthcare should be patient-centered from the moment a patient walks through the front door. Unfortunately, that was not my experience. I continue to have the highest regard for Dr. Michelle Zikusoka. She is an outstanding cardiologist whose professionalism, compassion, and dedication are beyond question. My criticism remains directed solely at the front office staff and the way this situation was handled. I sincerely hope Austin Heart will consider applying the same patience, flexibility, and understanding to its patients that patients are expected to extend when the practice is running behind schedule.

I was NOT disappointed. I walked out of there feeling like I was heard and believed. I got a medicine change and something to whip my issues into shape. 24 hours later, I feel so much better. For the first time in over a year, I feel hope that I will be feeling awesome again soon. Also, it helps that this place is only 5 minutes from my place of employment! The very helpful front desk person went in the back and came out with the info I would be able to see Dr Shah almost instantly. Definitely want to keep her as PCP and RoundRock location is close to my home. Second visit was an acute visit for shingles and the male PA/NP was fab, too. There was a problem with getting the pain medication but the PA/NP cleared the issue up right away. Have labs and a f/u appt scheduled in Feb and March with Dr. Shah. Very pleased.

When an actual nurse approached, I asked her if she could accommodate in which the receptionist interjected and grabbed the device. I couldn't even get a complete sentence out without the receptionist, cutting me off and not letting me speak so I could have properly expressed my concern for my mother's treatment. When it comes to something that would literally save her life I would've hoped that at least one employee would seriously listen to me instead of downright dismissing my concerns.

Or you can decide it's not worth it. I don't live far away--so I sometimes go over and leave written messages at the office. Of course that's absurd but it's worth it for the care I get when I'm there for an appointment. I hesitated to write this review because it's better for those of us who think she's the best if some of you go someplace else. But if you choose her, you'll be in for the kind of medical care I thought was long gone. I am often considered a difficult patient--and doctors often bristle at how much I push back or ask difficult questions or refuse to worship at their shrine. But I have never ever noticed Dr. Swegler getting defensive, being rude, refusing to carefully consider a question I pose--or getting insulted because I went on the internet to the Mayo Clinic or WebMD, etc. It is so obvious that she keeps up with the medical journals and the latest information--she's a font of knowledge. As you can tell from my star rating I thought she was good. She was very quick and too the point, which I see one people may be put off by, but really though. People are complaining that clinics can't get to people on time or doctors leave in a rush. There is no happy medium. Dr. Swegler tries to get people in and out and try to get to the bottom of things as fast as possible with ample care and evidence. Her words may be a tad bit brusque, but she gets to the point. As for people who read WebMD and think they know everything, then complain about doctors correcting them... Really? You pay them to tell you what's wrong. There is a sense of professionalism that you're undermining by completely ignoring professional help even though you come for it. I can see why one doesn't want a brusque doctor for long term, if they're more sensitive. That's understandable, but she is a general practitioner, not a therapist. If you want ample time to talk about things, then this place may not be suitable. However, when it comes to quick expertise and professionalism without fluff, this is the place to go.
