Mediocre strip mall taco shop. Weekend menudo cravings brought us here. I've never been to a weekender that took half an hour to get a bowl of menudo. My wife asked for chorizo tacos... and that's what they brought her; a tortillla filled with chorizo... nothing else. No egg, no potatoes, no cilantro, JUST chorizo. Another first. My son and I ordered barbacoa tacos to go along with our menudo.... The brisket/barbacoa tacos arrived, were eaten, and the plate cleared before the menudo showed up. Oh. And menudo? Yeah. Don't do that. Stop at an actual restaurant. Give this place a wide berth. read more

This casual spot is tucked into a strip mall by the Southlake High School. I found it in a search for local tacos and had bookmarked it. It seems that the place has a lot of regulars, which is good. Customer service was prompt. The food was good, which you can see in my pics. My fish tacos were well seasoned and stacked. The rice and beans were okay. Chips and salsa were almost $4, and were also okay. They do offer a salsa bar with a good variety of their homemade salsas, but the plastic containers for the salsa were super tiny, and the ladles for the salsa were big. I could see over-pouring into a container, and the excess salsa running down fingers right back into the salsa from whence it came . . . And from which someone else will repeat . . . It is hard to express how rude the waitress is. Even the most basic interaction is unpleasant. If you like sweet tea she'll bark that they don't have sweet tea.. they have HIBISCUS! If you like the coffee and wonder if they sell it she'll put you in your place and tell you it comes from Sam's. She hates her life and she'd like to share a little of that misery with you. Our order was wrong. When we asked her to correct the order her attitude switched from annoyed indifference to open hostility. After waiting quite a while I went to the counter to cash out and she mumbled something inaudible. I told her I just wanted to check out and she barked that she had asked if I needed any to go cups... "no, I just want to leave." I really just wanted to leave and never return. read more

This place does a pretty good business with the locals. I watched the Southlake high school football players each order bags of tacos for breakfast and it seemed like it wasn't their first rodeo at Austin Taco House. Pay attention to the pricing! The menu reflects a basic taco, up charge for lettuce which was yellow, they call a "Gringo" Why not a different racial slur?? Is this the gringo way of eating a taco I suppose? Add cheese @$1.50, on top of all that is a 4% CC fee. The ground taco beef is very elementary school greasy and a slight upgrade from Taco Bell. Disaster. Went to Austin Taco House last weekend for a breakfast taco fix. I've never been there and the location is convenient so it was a good day to try something new. Ordered several tacos to go with no egg, and a side of potatoes. Now, I've been living, eating and ordering food for a long time and I have ALWAYS been allergic to eggs and this allergy is way before having a food allergy was considered cool. I always relay that I have an egg allergy so please remove all egg but this is the first time I was charged more for a no egg option. I rationalized that maybe the portion sizes are premixed so no egg is more work.... Ok, paying more for less but sure. I wasn't upset about the up charge, until I got home to the egg filled tacos. Literally could not eat a thing and they forgot my side of potatoes to boot. I had plans that morning and no time to drive back to complain, time waisted, gas waisted, food wasted, money wasted. Business needs improve quality control and reconsider up charging patrons for less ingredients. read more

I was in the area and decide to try this place. It's pretty small with only one server and one cook from what it looked like. They have the usual dishes you would expect breakfast tacos, tacos, migas etc. I decided to try their tacos, they don't make the tortillas at the restaurant so you went with flour tacos and a barbacoa, carnitas and chorizo. I'm used to bold flavors at the tacquerias in Denton so I thought these were bland. I liked the chorizo the best of the three I had. The beans and rice was bland to me as well. The service was great and they were very friendly. It's possible that tacos need to be more bland to be popular with the people in the area. read more

Was driving between doctors appointments this morning and realized I hadn't had breakfast yet. Found this hidden gem and sooooooo glad I did. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. The place was clean and basic which I like. Some basic decor on the walls and a chalkboard for the daily specials. I ate 2 of the Southlake tacos. They were pretty amazing!!! I hold nothing against Fuzzy's and Torchy's - but those guys cannot hold a CANDLE to ATH. I'm Chinese Hawaiian, from Hawaii, but even I can tell these guys are the real deal. At 1030am, the place was packed. I think I was the ONLY person in the restaurant that did not speak fluent Spanish. You have to wait for a minute or two more, for your food. Do it. It's well worth the fresh, hot, rich taste and texture of food truck tacos done right, consumed while you're sitting in the clean restaurant's a/c. I'm Southlakey enough to prefer that to the sounds and smells of the streets in TJ in the blazing hot sun. If you like that experience, more power to you - but eating these tacos will take you there, for a moment. Just found this delicious and authentic taco joint. My husband got "the best huevos rancheros ever." You could tell the ranchero sauce was fresh made that day. My picky 11 year old son enjoyed the chorizo, egg and cheese tacos a lot!! They also have great, home made tamales and advertise that they sell them in bulk for the holiday. It was a quant restaurant with about 6ish indoor tables and a couple outside, and they had a steady flow of traffic grabbing to-go orders. Easily one of my new faves, Austin Taco house, located near the Bank of America on Southlake Boulevard, produces some of the best tacos in the area. I wanted to bring some breakfast tacos to my family, and while the egg/sausage (sliced small sausages, not your typical breakfast sausage)/potato was pretty decent, the standout was the egg/chorizo/beans. Since I'm on keto, I ordered the burrito, which I ate without the tortilla. The burrito can be described in one word: gargantuan. It's a tremendous value for money, and the blend of egg, jalapeno, chorizo and sausage was phenomenal. Please keep in mind you can add whatever combination of ingredients you like on the menu. For lunch (another day), we tried the Alambre, shrimp tacos, carne asada and al pastor tacos. The alambre was delicious, although I do agree that there was less meat in it that at other places. Still, the flavors were on point, and I enjoyed it tremendously. The shrimp tacos looked rather ordinary but were quite flavorful. The clear standout was the al pastor meat...I was surprised how incredibly good this pastor was compared to many other places in the area, and I would definitely just get the pastor the next time. Coupled with these delicious dishes are the salsas. My favorite two being the creamy jalapeno (spicy but smooth) and the habanero (yeah, this one will burn your face off). Both definitely heightened each dish, but I would caution you on the habenero if you aren't used to spices. I'm quite tolerant of very high spice levels but even this would be too much in larger quantities. Lovely staff, nice little location, and plenty of proper precautions for take-out. And my usual epidemiologist recommendation: bring your own pen, and try to use a hook to open doors. Wear a mask properly (covering your nose). read more

Austin Taco House has the best breakfast tacos that we have found...in the area! That is the big caveat... The Southlake/Trophy Club/Grapevine/Roanoke area doesn't have any truly great options. Moving here from San Antonio we were a bit surprised that most places here can't even make a basic bean and cheese taco that is decent! But Austin Taco House can! And the chorizo is good too. These things, along with the homemade pico de gallo (off menu and sometimes you really have to beg for it!), are what keep us coming back! And the family that runs the place is great too! read more

We visited Austin Taco House for the first time today and it was more than fabulous! I can't believe we lived a stone throw away and never tried this place! The food is so well seasoned and fresh! We ordered the cheese enchiladas with ranchero sauce! The enchiladas were stuffed full of the most amazing cheese! The ground beef taco has the most amazing flavor! My husband ordered the most tender and flavorful pork platter! The icing on my cake was the watermelon drink! It's like drinking a fresh watermelon straight from the rind! We can't wait to go back!! My wife and I tried Austin Taco House for the first time today. The food was just OK. They are a bit stingy, and are charging people extra for things that should already come with your order. I have never heard of a Mexican restaurant that charges an extra 50 cents for cheese, tomatoes, and lettuce on your taco. They also charge an extra 25 cents if you don't finish your salsa. This would be the little salsa cups that you fill and take to your table yourself and use for you food. The service was awful and to be nickel and dimed for items that should already come with your meal is just plain ridiculous! Run from this place! There are so many better places to eat in the metroplex. This place is just awful! read more

Nice little place. I asked for horchata, but was told, "Today it's watermelon." So that's what I had. It was made from fresh watermelon and was very good. I decided to try four different tacos and went for the shredded beef, carnitas, el pastor, and pork in red sauce. I put two on flour and two on corn. Next time I'll do all corn, as the flour did not really work for me, however all the tacos were very good. At a $1.69 each, it struck me as a good value for the money. PS. I would say ATH is a 10/10 place to eat. The tacos are top notch very fresh and the salsa is one of the best I've ever had. I got 5 tacos of the al pastor and it just had a taste like no other "street taco" that I have had. Only reason 4/5 stars is there no fountain drinks with refills. Sauces falls flat for any real flavor. The only thing I believe may have actually been prepared 'fresh' were the meats. The beans/rice, tortillas don't scream any sort of authenticity.
