Moving to Texas a while back, a friend said "never underestimate a restaurant in a strip mall". Craftway Kitchen in Southlake isn't exactly in a strip mall, but in the outlot of a few big box retailers. We've driven past Craftway Kitchen more than a few times, always intrigued with a 'we have to try that place sometime'. Saturday night was sometime. Taking our chances as a party of three walk in's, the restaurant was full inside, and there were a few tables open on the patio. I generally don't like to eat on patios, because flies show up, etc. Not at Craftway... not sure what they were doing, but there wasn't a fly or other flying bug around. The patio wasn't just clean, it was meticulous. Welcoming too - It felt very much like an extension of the restaurant. Alex, our waiter was quick to bring water and menus. Returning to take drink orders, a margarita was ordered as was a glass of Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc. Drinks were quickly served. Water was never allowed to become empty. Alex asked if we had ever been to Craftway, we informed him this was our first visit. His ask "any allergies?" to which we said no. He disappeared, returning with an appetizer sampling plate with three items - the Reuben egg rolls, crab stuffed mushrooms, and blue cheese chips. All were fantastic! Three entrees ordered, the Chicken & Fig sandwich, Chicken Milanese and the Cajun pasta with Chicken. Food arrived; each entree was fantastic. Cooked to perfection, flavors were amazing. Dessert, shared, was a bread pudding with ice cream, a perfect finish. Alex never let beverages become empty, delivered superb service. The Chef circulated the room checking on satisfaction and chatting with patrons. Giving Craftway Kitchen a very well deserved 5-star rating. The staff did everything right! Departing, we talked about what we will order next time. We will be back to Craftway Kitchen! read more

CraftWay is unique as it remains unpretentious while still serving elevated cuisine with service to match. Most of the starers are mouthwatering, even the unexpected Ruben Eggrolls are a delight. Less daring items like the coconut shrimp are equally good. Without a doubt my go to entree is the Beef Wellington. I remember La Madeleine had an affordable one on their menu in the late nineties, this is reminiscent. I do usually swap out the mashed potatoes for the chopped wedge as side, just seems like the classical steakhouse side for the task. The only thing I would say that is lacking is the wine list, despite being very fairly priced. Their most bespoke bottle of red is the Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon (2021), which while amazing for the $99.99 they charged, it was fairly flat, lacking the traditional vanilla perfume you'd expect from a pricey California Cabernet Sauvignon. Also took a bottle of GH Mumm Grand Cordon, which also did not taste as anticipated. I think the most plausible explanation might be heat damage, as both wines are usually well regarded but came up short. read more

Stopped in for a quick bite and this place didn't disappoint. Ordered the shrimp and grits entree along with their take on a pot pie. Both were excellent, although you shouldn't expect the pot pie to be a major filler; though the unique flaky top was a different twist from the usual expectations that come with a pot pie. The thing I enjoyed most about this place is how friendly all the staff were and on top of that they even gave me a coupon for $20 off the next visit. I am eagerly anticipating my next visit as I really want to try the Beef Wellington! read more

My boyfriend and I love to stop in to Craftway for consistently yummy food and great service. They have a full bar and will let you taste test their frozen drinks, which is so helpful for my indecisive nature. The ambiance gives upscale casual dining. I love getting their charcuterie boards. What a great little spot. We sat out on the patio and while the traffic noise from Southlake Blvd was a little much at times - the patio was well done and felt very welcoming. We began our meal with the Calamari which was lightly battered and perfectly cooked. I had the Bourbon Blackberry Smash and it was pretty good. A little more tart than I expected but it was good and well made. Out entrees arrived together with the presentation of each plate being most excellent. I had the Beer Battered Fish & Chips and my wife had the Coconut shrimp which was to die for (I stole much of it). The other couple with us had shrimp plates as well and there were zero leftovers to take home. I would be remiss if I failed to mention our service was spot-on. We came here around 2 pm on a weeked, and it was fairly empty. Our waitress was sweet and recommended the frozen "drink of the day", a piña colada. I took her up on it for a mere $7, and it was delicious, complete with a toasted coconut rim. It also made me pretty sleepy for the rest of the day, so it must have had more booze than I tasted. My husband was hungry and ordered the shrimp pasta. I went with the Reuben egg roll app, which could have used more corned beef. The strange part was the wait. We waited and waited for a very simple order, while two four tops who came in after us received their food about 15 minutes before we did. Eventually we asked our waitress about it, and she brought the food out right away. I was worried it had been sitting under the salamander in the kitchen, but it was piping hot. Everything was fine overall, but there is no real need for a repeat visit. Super cute outdoor area was having a party of sorts...it looks great as it's covered! On the inside there is a variety of booth and table seating plus the bar. Our first time here for dinner. Made a reservation online. Got seated right away. Ambiance is comfortable and casual - we were seated at a booth. Service was excellent - our server Sabrina, took care of us all evening long. Super helpful, made suggestions, responsive, and friendly. For food, we had the French onion soup (cup size) which was good, the Brussels sprouts (asked for them super well done), Reuben egg roll (good), and the chicken fig sandwich with house salad which was very good too. We had a great experience today at CraftWay Kitchen. I have a dairy allergy and we ordered the charcuterie board not knowing the chips came with cheese on them. Cassidy stepped up and brought two different chips and one was fresh made potato chips. We've gone to many restaurants in Dallas, Grapevine, Southlake area and very rarely does the chef or wait staff bring out additional different food when it comes to my allergy. We finally broke rotation and tried CraftWay Kitchen in Southlake. The service by Aidan (and the food) were impeccable. We tried the calamari, crabcake, and redfish. Holy smokes! The steak was ordered medium and it was raw in the middle, the Mac and cheese was very watery, the tartar sauce was very bland and the cheeseburger was also bland. First time dining here. The food and service was good. We liked the flexibility of the menu. They offer half portions of appetizers, though not shown on the menu. It's good when you want to try more than one thing, but don't want to order too much food. We ordered the crab, stuffed mushrooms and the housemaid blue cheese chips with bacon. The mushrooms were good and the chips were OK. The chips were very thin and got soggy very quickly. Our entrées were the blackened redfish and beef Wellington. Both were very good. The server asked if we wanted to swap out the sides with our entrées, which was also nice. As for the ambience, I give that maybe 3 stars. Their outdoor seating area looked nice. Inside - The lighting was not soft. More fluorescent, which gave it more of a hang out with your friends and not much of a date night vibe. Lastly, I'm usually cold in restaurants and it was hot in there. That definitely took away from the experience. We will go back, but likely wait until it cools off a bit. read more

Love this new spot in Southlake. Staff is amazing! Everyone is on point. Not sure how they found all the best but they seem to have Large patio in the front and on the side of the bar. They have a unique concept with frozen cocktails, and I have to say the frozen old fashion is delicious and packs a punch. They have a daily happy hour until 6 PM and it does include some frozen cocktails, but not the old-fashioned. We tried several things and everything was delicious made from scratch made to order . The Southlake location of Craftway Kitchen has been open for ~1 month and I'm so happy this one is so much closer to home! The service and food quality is similar to the Plano one - which is to say, consistently good. The new space is right off of Southlake Blvd and is very spacious, w a nice open bar area and a covered patio. Of the drinks, my wife loved the frozen Paloma and the Old Fashioned - made w Angels Envy bourbon () - is top notch IMO. The Brussels sprouts side dish is fantastic! Having just arrived from out of town for an event, I looked for a nice farm-to-table type original destination and I was pleased to find Craft Way. Not only that, the weather was so nice & traffic not too noisy that sitting outside was the better choice, an ambience of perfection for a perfect meal. Too bad I was solo, I would bring everyone here next time. CW's menu had plentiful delicious options, even for a currently gluten-free diner such as myself. Sara was such a hospitable & professional waitress that made me want to return. Spacing and seating were comfortable & just right. Too bad I live 2 hours away or I would frequent CW more often. The only con is I thought my salmon entree would've been the thicker variety instead of thin like trout. However Sara explained that if notified of that preference the chef would've obliged my request. Communicate anything you need & looks like they will bend over backwards to win your business as the lovely food & service was lacking absolutely nothing. Craft Way is a winner! We had our first visit this week. As usual we sat at the bar, which is spacious and staffed with wonderful bartenders who all went out of their way to be friendly and make recommendations. Upon entering the Craft Way Kitchen you immediately appreciate the ambiance. Simply, yet tastefully designed with barn wood tables on wooden floors, the feel almost becomes elegant. Add to that the classic album rock playing, I was right at home! My service was really good. I greeted and seated immediately and then Cassidy introduced herself as my server. She did a pretty decent job handling several tables she had, but sometimes there were long waits before she returned, especially when it was time for the check I ordered the Prime Rib French Dip. It was tender and flavorful. My only wish was that it would have been just a little less fatty. It was alarming running into gristle as I chewed it. So I was looking for a place to eat after work and I had to get out of the traffic. And there was craft way. I looked up on the Internet, and I saw that coconut shrimp and the beef Wellington. And I was sold. I went in and tried both. The coconut shrimp was wonderful except for someone who was supposed to be cleaning them and clean them very well and I just cleaned it myself and then ate it anyway. But when I'm mentioning it to the leader, they went ahead and took it off my bill, even though I pretty much ate the whole thing. I thought that was very classy of them too stand up for their own work. Cause I had no way to ask them to take it off I was going to pay for it anyway because I enjoyed it except for the little self work. The way that the food came out in the presentation was so beautiful. I'm pretty sure that was an accident. Also the beef Wellington was so delicious. It was a perfect medium rare. I didn't ask for my own well done as I like to see what the chef is gonna present and it was delicious as is. The crust was very light flaky. You can tell he makes his own. The mushroom around under the pastry was delicious. I really wish it had a little more mustard but other than that I think it would be great... It said something about cheese and the description, but I didn't notice any cheese. The staff was wonderful, very helpful and constantly checked back to see what was going on. The chef came out and talked to the people in the booth, but completely ignored all the people in the tables... Very interesting but that's OK. I was eating. I was busy. Overall, I really like it and there are several things on the menu that I want to try so I will definitely be going back. read more
