Oh. My. Gosh. The Greek Gyro Salad was to die for! Hubs and I walked over to this food truck for lunch as I was feeling salad-ish. The pictures looked promising so we made our way over. The truck is parked in a nook with other food trucks and as plenty of benches to eat around. The only con? There are flies everywhere. We walked over a couple of blocks where we found some tables to eat outside of the Trader Joe's spot. The gyro meat was flavorful and juicy. The salad was topped with the perfect amount of dressing and toppings (onions, tomatoes, and olives). Hubs ordered a wrap and scarfed it. I was picking at his fries which had ketchup and white sauce drizzled over them and they tasted great. The staff was friendly. Packaging was clean and presentable. And most importantly, the food was delicious.

Decent option if you're in the mood for gyros where they do plates, wraps, over hummus, over salad, or over French fries. We tried the chicken salad and the combo plate over fries plus a side of hummus. The hummus was a bit bland but paired with the other dishes it was okay.

French Fry Soup: too much sauce!!

They drowned my lunch! I started with the fries, which were nicely packed in a little box, which was smart because this was basically French Fry soup. There was so much sauce, the fries had gone completely soggy by the time I got home. I switched from fingers to fork, then gave up. And I rarely give up on fries! Meanwhile my BF was working on the hummus, which he said was "bland" and "weird." He is super picky about hummus, so I gave it a try and had to agree with him. It tasted to me like watered-down tahini, and slightly metallic. No hint of chickpeas, lemon, garlic, etc. I moved on to my Combo Wrap. At first, I tried to eat it like a burrito, as God intended. But She never met as wet a gyro wrap as this. I ended up putting it on a plate and actually blotting it with paper towels! Once I'd done that, it was better, but it was all so soggy that after I'd eaten most of the salad part, I put it in a skillet to crisp it up a bit. After that, it was delicious. If I go back--a big if at this point--I'll skip the hummus and say, "Don't drown my lunch!!!"

Amazing fries that came with the sandwich

So much flavor and such a reasonable price. You get a hefty, flavorful sandwich on pita PLUS fries with delicious sauce on top all for $9. You can't find a better deal and better food for that amount. HOWEVER, the menu is not exhaustive about what ingredients they include in the sandwiches. If you don't like raw onions (like me) or perhaps peppers, beware that both of these unmentioned ingredients were in my sandwich.

Gyro overstuffed and the meat was sooo tender! Such flavors! Red and white fries to die for. Baklava extra sweet with honey hit my sweet tooth just right. Cheesecake was small for the price but the richness made up for it. Favor delivery was fast and affordable. This is on my favorites list.

Excellent chicken and rice plate. Chicken is well seasoned and rice is sublime. Must be cooked in a rich flavorful broth to make the rice this good. Hummus is good but a little on the grainy side. Couldve used a piece of pita for the hummus.

Inconsistent for me for delivery - food wise. I've ordered the fried mozzarella sticks twice and unless you know how to bring back their golden crispiness on your stovetop, they're kind of a wash. The last hummus batch I received was rancid. And not the first time I've found it inedible, which is a shame because I'd like to think this part of my order I'm thinking about my future self and how I'll want to snack on this, so I'm always so sad when that doesn't come to fruition. Love the pita and love the plates and salads. Always a mountain of food slathered in all the right kinds of sauces.

Ordered ahead for lunch and was able to pick up my food right away even though I was a few minutes early. The person working the register was friendly and accommodated my request for extra rice instead of salad that I put in through the app. The portion size was great for the price, including generous serving of chicken compared to the amount of rice. The chicken was pretty juicy, but not super flavorful. The white sauce was creamy, but I was surprised the hot sauce didn't register more flavor; even after I asked for extra it still only gave a mild flavor to the dish. Overall, a solid spot for a filling meal, but nothing spectacular flavor wise.

    Beef Shawarma plates
    Carmen L.

It wasn't terrible. We ordered the beef shawarma plate and the rice was a bit under cook. You could tell right away (visually) by the tightness of the grain -- that and the fact it was semi transparent which is what undercooked rice tends to look like. The beef was a bit salty but aromatics were there. My husband and I are new to Austin but have been struggling to find authentic ANYTHING. Was really hoping this restaurant could've filled the void but we'll keep looking.

Restaurants in this city face high…read morecompetition, and try hard to be the next big thing, often relying on flashy gimmicks and a sort of odd corporate hospitality that feels more sterile than welcoming. In trying to be unique, many places feel like carbon copies of the same restaurant concept, all clawing desperately to have your attention and business. In eating at Yamas, I was grateful to find a place where that felt markedly and clearly different. First, let's talk about the most important aspect: the food. Admittedly, my background in Greek food isn't as strong as I'd like it to be, but eating here felt quality wise so much different from other places in the city. The restaurant is family owned(Greeks of course) and you can feel the love and attention they put into making the food feel almost like a love letter to their homeland. Get the traditional Greek salad and you will feel like you picked the tomatoes out of your own backyard. Second, the ambiance is excellent. It really does feel like you're in Greece. White plaster, blue highlights, and a ton of really cool murals around the entire space. They have indoor seating, but I would definitely recommend the patio for that true Santorini vibe. Finally, what felt most refreshingly and truly Greek to me was the hospitality. Despite having no relation beforehand and a packed and busy restaurant, the owners came over to my table multiple times to check in and see how I was doing, and when I asked about ouzo (which I was unfamiliar with) the owners came over and gave me a free shot, and toasted with me. This was totally unexpected and unnecessary but super appreciated. I also saw the same thing happen at other tables so it seems like it's their thing. Really cool and makes you feel like part of their little family. Ultimately, I think this restaurant has a really refreshing ambiance and overall vibe compared to a lot of other spots in this city. Food was great, service was great(shoutout my server Oliver, really nice dude), and overall I left full and satisfied. Definitely worth a trip off the beaten path if you're a fan of Greek food. Anyone who says otherwise probably has an untreated mental illness, the palette of a picky toddler, or an IQ lower than 60.

We tried the whipped feta with pistachios, and it was special -- salty/sweet and a little something special to make you wonder just what the spice was. The lamb & beef keftas were also excellent, with the lemon rice and a nice tsadziki -- and we make keftas at home fairly regularly, so we know what a good one tastes like. The only regret that we had was that we only have one stomach each. A second would have allowed us to keep tasting... Don't miss it. Then, to get drinks or even the order was a problem. It took so much longer than usual. Our waitress was rude, and seemed bothered that we showed up. Then someone else came as the waitress and she was preoccupied with other tables and barely checked on us. A regular lunch which would've been one hour became almost two because of the lack of service. My friend had to stand and look for someone to give us a box to take out the good we couldn't eat because it was getting late and also to get the check because No one came in to check on us at all. The staff keeps the dining area and buffet line consistently stocked and clean. They even provide hand sanitizer and gloves for you. Even when foot traffic picked up while we were there, the food was replenished quickly and didn't look picked over. Now let's talk food...Everything tastes fresh, well-seasoned, and like it was made with care instead of just being "buffet food" an under seasoned. The variety is also amazing, and it's easy to build a plate for pretty much any type of diet whether you're keto, high protein, balanced, veggie-forward, vegan, etc... Some of our favorite dishes we keep coming back for: Shredded beef (SO good), Baked fish (tender and not fishy), Garlic baked chicken (wonderful crispy skin), Fried chicken, Baked kafta, Kafta kebab, Gyro meat, Roasted cauliflower, Eggplant, Greek salad, Fatoush, Kale Caesar salad, Zaatar pizza, Cheese pizza (pro tip: top it with shredded beef- a life changing buffet hack), Rice with lentils, Rice with mixed veggies. For the quality, variety and amount of food you get, this is easily one of the best deals in the city! It's rare to find a buffet that's both affordable and consistently this good! If I had one small wish, it would be for desserts to match how strong the rest of the food is. They're not bad, just a little more "fine" compared to how amazing everything else is. Between me, my husband, and my mom, we have a lot of overlap in what we like to eat, but we also have some pretty distinct preferences, and Demassi's is one of those places where that works. My husband really loves Middle Eastern / Mediterranean food. I generally do not. I tend to find the meats too dry, I don't particularly like the spice profile, and I also find a lot of dishes in that category to be overly sour. It's hard to explain, but there's often a sharp, tangy acidity that I don't enjoy. For whatever reason, I don't have that issue at Demassi's at all. Here my husband can get his fix of dry, spiced meats, while I'm happy eating from the huge selection of rice dishes, cooked veggies, and soups. As far as protein goes, I actually really like the fish here, so I almost never eat the meat and still leave satisfied. It usually feels like a healthy pescatarian day for me, which I like. Then there's my mom, who just loves the abundance and variety of a buffet. She's happiest when she can sample a little bit of everything, build plates with lots of small bites, and then go back for more. Demassi's is perfect for that. On top of all of this, it's very reasonably priced, especially for lunch or on weeknights. It's always clean, the staff is consistently courteous, and they are really on top of bussing tables, which matters a lot to me at a buffet. Dirty dishes piling up are never an issue here. Overall, it's a solid, reliable spot for us and a place we're always happy to suggest when we're trying to please multiple people with different tastes.

The space has a fun, lively feel, and it's actually a great spot to post up and get some work done too. The WiFi is reliable, and they've got a mix of indoor and outdoor seating. The patio wraps around the back, which gives you a few different options depending on your mood. I don't usually do caffeine, but I made an exception here because I was too curious not to try a few things. I got the baklava latte and a Greek frappe, and honestly, no regrets. Both were really good and felt like a treat. Out front, you've got the busy street, which somehow ends up feeling kind of meditative while you sit and sip. I've also never had an issue with parking, which is always a plus. Looking forward to coming back and exploring the food menu more, but even just for drinks and coworking, it's already a solid spot.

Parking was a bit of a challenge but was able to park on the curb out front. Once inside, we placed our order at the counter and pre-paid and were given a number. They have an extensive menu with traditional Greek dishes and all-day breakfast options. As well as a full bar offering aromatic coffee, hand-crafted cocktails, fine wine, and a selection of local and international beers. The restaurant was busy we were able to place our order in a timely fashion. I opted for a cocktail along with lentils and rice and added chicken as the protein. There was indoor and outdoor seating available. After ordering, we sat outside in the most cozy and intimate outdoor seating area. Unfortunately, after waiting 30+ minutes, we never received our food. When we checked at the counter, the interaction felt pretty condescending, staff insisted the order had already been brought out even though we never received it and still had our number with us. At that point we had to cancel the order so we wouldn't miss our show. I do appreciate that they offered a full refund without issue, but overall the experience left us disappointed, especially with how the situation was handled.

My…read moreboyfriend and I decided to check it out while looking for an early dinner spot on a Saturday evening, and we were pleasantly impressed from the start. The waitstaff were extremely attentive and welcoming--two men and one woman--and made us feel comfortable right away. One of the male servers took the time to walk us through much of the menu, thoughtfully explaining the different dishes, which we really appreciated. We started with a shareable appetizer: the pick-three dips with pita. The portion came with plenty of pita, and we chose the eggplant dip, a split pea-based dip, and a whipped potato dip. While all were good, the whipped potato dip was my favorite--it was unique and especially delicious. For my entrée, I ordered the vegetable skewer. The presentation was beautiful, and the dish was very flavorful. It also came with pickled vegetables, which added a nice balance. My boyfriend ordered a shrimp dish that was more stew-like; he mentioned the tomatoes tasted very fresh and really enjoyed it. Overall, the meal was filling, well-portioned, and reasonably priced. We'll definitely be coming back.

Or better yet make a reservation from their website. We were able to seat outside half way under the covered patio, I'm giving a 4 because of the pesky flies/bees which I know they have no control over but maybe a few bug zappers wouldn't hurt. Started off with a Mimosa, then added the Melitzana, roasted eggplant like a course dip with fresh pita bites & pickled vegetables, so yummy. I ordered the Avgolemono Soup, extra creamy with egg and delicious. It was really good. My friend ordered the Aegean Omelette, wow that was a plate full of deliciousness. Our server was very attentive, kept our water glasses full, and made sure we had extra pita for our dip. Highly recommend, will be returning for dinner service.
