Auto Check Center did an excellent job of locating a difficult vapor leak that was causing a "Check Engine" light on our 2004 Lexus. They performed the necessary repairs, ran a smog check, the car passed and we were issued the certificate. The work was performed ahead of schedule and the price charged was as quoted even though additional parts were needed. They really strive to provided excellent customer service by keeping you informed of the status of your repairs, and making sure you are completely satisfied. The worst car shop I have ever been to. I came here on a recommendation from my father. it cost my wife 800 dollars to get her car "fixed". Her rim was dented so it caused the steering wheel to shake as she drove. The first time they got the car, they didn't even replace the wheel. The problem wasn't fixed. They charged us 600 dollars for some part they said needed replacement. Probably didn't need to be replaced. I then called them to let them know they didn't fix anything that we told them needed to be fixed. they apologized and did not charge any more labor for the additional repairs. Once they were done the 2nd time, we noticed the check engine light was still on. When we asked why it was still on they told us they didn't know but the car ran fine. Here we are a few months later and we need to get the car smoged and it fails automatically if the check engine light is on. Thanks for stealing 800 dollars from me auto check. I'll NEVER come back here and neither will anyone else from my family, even my father who has been taking cars here for over 10 years. read more

Great service; quick turn around; very reasonable price. I have recommended ACC to all my friends for their auto repair needs. I've been taking my 1989 Volvo GL to this shop for the past 7 years. The able mechanics there have kept my car in a great running shape at quite an affordable price. The shop is well managed by a two-person team and I always get a clear description -and evidence- of what a problem with my car may be. Excellent service in a timely manner, trustworthy and no other smog check place is able to compete with them in terms of price. I recently got a list of overwhelming parts and services needed form Jaguar dealership and after smog check that these guys did for me ask them to check if there is a need for brake pad change, which was in the long list, and I was ready to give them the job right away. After a couple of minutes Hasan, the guy with mustache, came back and told me there is no need to change and there is still fifty percent of pads left. These guys are insanely knowledgeable, honest and up front, and you can tell they take pride in their ability AND desire to offer great service. read more

Smog checks are such a pain in the ass, but coming here was actually extremely pleasant. I found a coupon in Money Mailer for $29.97 (came out to $38 after everything). It's kind of hidden and has a small parking lot. I'd recommend arriving at 10:30. I was here for less than 20 minutes! Everyone was very kind, even the mechanics came out to say hello. I'm actually kinda considering making this my regular auto shop. There's a nice little, peaceful patio to sit at while you wait, instead of being cooped up inside like most auto places. read more

I have been to this shop many times and each time they are responsive, keep me informed, totally honest (I could give several detailed examples but that would be lengthy), and reasonably priced. They are concerned about customer service and quality repair. This time I went in for a smog check and oil change. Fortunately they discovered a belt that was extremely worn. They showed it to me and it was splitting down the middle and close to breaking. I was lucky as it could have gone at any moment (which would have made the car inoperable). They did the repair in a timely fashion and the charge was reasonable. This shop is not particularly close to my home but I go there for the service. There is nothing fancy here. It is more of an old fashion garage with personal and quality service. There is seating inside and out and internet access. I always take some work or reading but they almost always finish long before I expect. read more

I had the same feeling that this store is not honest. It attract customers by posting cheap ads. i choose this store is because i saw it only charges $28 for a smog check. when i came in, the your guy behind the counter told me it will take 1.5 hour. there is only one car in the smog check station. since i need to renew my car next week, so i wait there patiently. while i was waiting there, i found some guys who came later than me got their car smog checked. i remember one guy even said it is so fast!. then i came to ask the your guy if he follows the order. he told me they are in the line before me. WTF. luckily my car passes the test after i waited there for 2 hours. the smog check can only take less than 20mins. read more

Wow... Where to begin with this place. Literally one of the worst, most dishonest experiences I've ever had. This is my first post on yelp, and I'm not the type of person to blow up over little issues. Please do yourself a favor and find another shop! I got a smog check for $59.75, (plus $8 dollar certification) and was informed that failed the Visual test after passing the Functional check & the Emissions test. A vapor hose was needing to be replaced. I was quoted around $100 dollars. I elected instead to take to my mechanic who replaced it for $63 dollars. My mechanic informed me that it was very questionable to fail my overall smog check due to this hose. Regardless, I wanted to get it corrected. Here's where they get super shady! I took my explorer back in for them to officially pass the car. I was informed it needed another full test, rather than just a redo on the visual inspection. About an hour later the car was finished, and then I was told I owe them another $59.75 for the retest. Absolutely nothing was mentioned to me about any additional fees for the follow up visit! I started going back and forth with the guy about how dishonest it was to slip a charge through without at least mentioning it to me beforehand. Why in the world would it make sense to have to pay yet another $60 dollars for the second time on the same car?!? I continued to argue with the older guy, and was finally offered a $10 dollar reduction. Knowing that by law, I'm required to have my failed smog test cleared by the shop where it initially failed, I reluctantly agreed to pay the reduced price of $49.75. Luckily for me, I glanced over at their prices on the wall, and it states a retest fee of $29.95!!! I about blew up! How shady can you be?!?!? The guy acts like he's cutting me a major break by reducing the retest fee by $10 dollars, when in reality he was over charging me to begin with. These guys will do everything they can to squeeze any amount of money of you! Please do yourself a favor and find another shop! At the very least, be upfront with the costs! read more

Got scammed. They seemed really nice and got me through quickly. My key/fob has recently fallen apart, but you of course need both pieces to start the engine. I told them all that and that we had looked into getting it repaired/replaced for $300. Just as my smog was done there, one of the guys went out and called a friend who supposedly said they could set me up with a replacement for $180. While we waited for him to arrive, we filled In another of their service agreements for $180 and I signed. Said friend came by with his van and made a replacement in about twenty minutes and said 'that's $120.' I had already agreed to and signed for $180. I did say that buddy had said $120, but he basically ignored me. I should have fought a little more for it but they basically charge me $60 to make a phone call. read more

Left my car because they had 5 cars ahead of me. I asked what time they closed and let them know that I would pick up before close of business. Received a call to tell me the call was ready. I let them know again that I would be in before the close of business. Rec'd another call to hassle that they were closing in 15 minutes and when was I going to pick up my car? I picked up my car 15 minutes later at 10 til 6pm. Someone can't understand that when someone says something, they mean it, nor car they do math! Caveat emptor..... read more

I had to get my car smogged, which is never anything anyone wants to do, and I found the website for Auto Check Center (the super generic name makes it hard to remember!) and a coupon on the site for a $29.95 smog check. They don't schedule appointments since there are so many choices for smog checks just in that general area that people don't show up and it messes up their schedule, which is understandable. I first drove in and couldn't find it so I stopped at another place, I think it was called Super Smog or something. The guy in there was "super" rude and told me the smog check would be $50 and then just went back to reading his paperwork (douche). So, I got back in my car and found the Auto Check Center (it's in the corner, and it's not hard to find if you're not an idiot rushing around like I was!). I handed over my DMV slip and the coupon, and I think it made a huge difference in the time it took because I stayed and didn't just drop off my car. I was on lunch, and the guy first told me it would be an hour, but I told him I didn't have that much time. So, because I was staying, he moved me to the front of the line (ahead of people who dropped off their cars -- which is probably why some people drop off, come back and still have to wait) and my check was done in about 10 minutes. So, total time was about 20 minutes for $30. Awesome! I really appreciated being moved to the front of the line since I had to get back to work. I will definitely come here again if I still live/work in Irvine in two years! read more

If I could give a 4.5, I would instead of a 5 only because of the general atmosphere. I've seen much nicer waiting rooms (although I didn't spend any real time in there) etc. HOWEVER, I got my car smogged with the coupon for less than 30 bucks (Out the door). I called ahead to check how busy they were and took a late lunch to get it done (around 2pm). When I got there, the owner said it would be about 20 minutes. I walked down the street to get some quick lunch (btw, ALBATROS is only a block down YUM) and by the time I walked back (about 35 min later) my car was done. I was impressed with how quick everything was and thrilled that there are great places to eat down the street while you wait. read more

I first came here five years ago the same way as most reviewers. Smog coupon (and close to my office). After using them many, many time for my company van and personal car smog test with no problems. I had a mechanical problem with passenger window not rolling up on my Dodge Nitro. I decided to give the mechanics here try since I already had the dealer repair the opposite side window a year before (BTW, it took the Dodge dealer two times to repair that window). Auto Check Center did it in one day, DONE!. In fact, I recently had them fix the same rear window that the dealer repair years ago (more of a design flaw from Dodge than dealer problem). I use them for all repairs now. That includes a custom 4x4 van I purchased two years ago. I have had three different DIFFICULT repairs on the 4x4 and they solved each one at a reasonable price. Mind you that two of these issue should have gone to a high priced 4x4 shop. The mechanics here are great. Honestly, I rarely give 5 star reviews to anyone but these guys deserve it. This place charges about $20 less (with coupon) for a SMOG check and certificate than the average going rate in the Lake Forest/Mission Viejo area. I was a little suspicious at first but everything happened just like they said it would. I was told that I would have to wait about 90 minutes but that wasn't a problem since I had brought work with me. I sat in my car working until they were ready to do the check. Then I watched for about 20 minutes while they did the SMOG check. Not a big deal and I was happy to save the extra money. read more

I believe when credit is due for quality service and being honest among a population of unethical business operators, it should be said with sincere and open mind thinking. For nearly 2 years Auto Check Center has serviced my collection of cars and of friends I recommend. They are honest and do the best work, many times with odds working against them as I have listened to other stories by customers like the fly on the wall, and observe the technicians do a terrific job, are professional, and the shop is clean. Their prices are very fair and the owners make every effort to explain the technical issues pretty well so the customer has a better understanding of the service they need. They go out of their way to accommodate every one as best as possible. They refer any job they are untrained for to another that specializes. I feel like I am visiting friends whenever I am there for service without regrets. read more

These people are unreliable and ridiculous. We spent close to $1000 here to "fix" my car but the check engine light we still on when we left, for the second time because the first time they did not even fix what we brought the car in for and said that I could not drive it without fixing that part enough though that is not why I brought my car in and it was running just fine. Now, a few months later my check engine light is still on after they said "they did not know how to fix it and it just will go on sometimes" and after taking it to the dealership because of a failed smog due to engine light we now know all these other things that are wrong with the car and it is costing us so much. Auto check costs us so much, for literally nothing, and we will never trust them and I strongly advise you if you are choosing to go here, to get a second opinion so this doesn't happen to you as well. I went here this morning to get a smog check & used the coupon I found online. After reading other review, I was prepared for a rude man to greet me and what I found was the opposite. Sam was nothing but nice to me and let me know it was first come first served but each smog check takes 20 minutes. 8am is the best time but since I got there at 8:20am, I had 2 people in front of me so I was out in about an hour. BEST PRICE IN OC. $28 TOTAL including certificate (with coupon found online). I will def be back in 2 years. read more

At first, this place was great. I took my vehicle there to get many things fixed, I thought they were honest, reliable and reasonably priced... This is how they hook you. I slowly noticed that whenever I got my car back, something else seemed to be going wrong with it. Brought it in for oil change, then I had a coolant leak, they replaced radiator hoses with wrong ones and caused then to melt against hot engine and I had to pay $500 for it to be fixed a second time. They even gave me my car back once with oil dipstick missing and the AC compressor unplugged and a vaccum line unplugged hanging loose in the engine. My AC was working fine prior to that. When I asked then about it, I was told that it had nothing to do with why the AC wasn't working and that its supposed to be unhooked like that. I guess they must have thought I was stupid because they had been scamming me for so long in the first place. I will never go back there and I have told other people not to go back there either. read more

Good price on smog check if you don't mind waiting but you NEED to bring the coupon or they won't honor it. I've and them do it many times. Be careful about any repair work required. I had a check engine light come on due to a small leak in the fuel line vent system. They knew it was the gas cap but charged me $150 plus $20 for the cap to read the code (takes 2 min) and then drive it around "until the car was ready". A reputable mechanic would have just read the code, replaced the cap and then given us the car to drive around for a day or two to clear the check engine light and then do the smog. I have been to this shop twice and both were very good experiences. Today was the second visit and they did an oil change and a smog. I was able to use their coupon from their site for the smog, and so the combined price was very reasonable. Both times I've been there, the service was timely, the staff was friendly. There were no hidden fees or any rip offs of services or parts I didn't need, just straight forward with reasonably priced service. When my 60 K mileage service is due, I'm taking my car back to them. I trust them to take car of my BMW and not over charge me. I would recommend this place to anyone. read more

Be very careful if they tell you that your car failed the smog. If it says that you passed the emissions but failed the visual inspection than you do not need to have a Catalytic Converter. I was ripped off, because they got me for a Catalytic Converter for alsmost $600.00 dollars. After they installed the converter my emission scores were the same. I only failed the visual and did not know untill I went on line and read about how a smog check works. Be careful to get a second opinion or let someone else read your smog report results before letting them take advantage of you. It was the young guy and not the owner that did this to me. read more

I would give this business a no star. I had my truck smogged and it failed, they said the part to fix the problem would be $309 and take about an hour to do. It was 2:30 and I figured I would be done before dark as I have night blindness and can't drive after dark. At 4:30 I asked how much longer and was told "you will be done today". I watch as other cars came and left and no one was working on my truck. I again checked at the desk at 5:30 and was told, "we will get you home today, they sprayed something on it and it needs 15 min. to dry." At 5:50 I was at the desk paying not $309 but now told it would be $427.00. I paid the money since we still needed to bring it back for another smog check in 100 miles. I asked for the part that was taken from my truck but was so upset forgot to get it. By the time I left it was dark and I lost my way going home, I got home at 7:55. Thank heavens my husband was able to guide me via our cellphones. Visit 2: I passed the smog and paid an additional $8.25 for the certificate (this was as it should be), however when I asked for the part taken from my truck I was told that I had to pay a $40 core fee to get it. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS ESTABLISHMENT AND WE ARE CHECKING OUT IF THIS PART WAS IN FACT NECESSARY, I WAS ALLOWED TO TAKE PICTURES OF IT AND COULD NOT SEE ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. THE PEOPLE ARE RUDE AND THEY DO NOT STAY ON A TIME SCHEDULE, IF YOU DON'T HAVE A WHOLE DAY PASS THIS PLACE BY......DO NOT LET THEM DO THE REPAIR WORK. I WAS NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT HAD PROBLEMS. THERE WAS A WOMEN WHO WHEN SHE BACKED HER CAR OUT IT MADE CLUNKING SOUNDS THAT WERE NOT THERE WHEN THEY PULLED IT IN, I FELT SORRY FOR HER AND SHOULD HAVE GOT A CLUE FROM THAT....BEWARE. read more

DO NOT go here for a smog...there is a much better place in the same parking lot where Auto Check Center is located that will do your smog in no time, and will not overcharge you. The name of the place you want to go is Super Smog located at 51 Auto Center Dr suite #3. I mistakenly ended up at Auto Check Center for my smog, I got a bad vibe when I went in but figured I would give them a try, after all it was only a smog check. I was told it would take about 1 hour, so I went to lunch and came back...they still hadn't touched my car, every time I asked how much longer, they said you are next, just a little longer...waited over 2 hours for the smog to be done only to be told that it didn't pass, the technician was not very customer service oriented and instead of apologizing for the wait his exact words were, "it didn't pass, you need to pay us $$", I asked if he knew why it didn't pass and he said he didn't know, I also asked if there was a free retest since it was advertised on their site and he said, "only if we fix the car" I would be interested to see what they would come up with to fix since they didn't even have a clue to tell me why it didn't pass... so that "Free Re-test" advertised on their site is not FREE...Save yourself the headache and go somewhere else. I can only imagine how horrible it would be to have them even try to repair a car there, he couldn't even tell me why my car didn't pass the smog which is something any decent smog technician would look into specially if they want your business. read more
