It was probably the quickest process at the Licensing Agency that I have ever experienced! Great customer service was provided by the teller at the window and helped me with what I needed in a timely fashion.

I have lived in many states, and have had negative experiences with privatized tag agencies…read moreelsewhere. I was relieved to find this process straightforward and relatively painless. The process here seemed quite effecient. (it is odd that in Washington, the actual state DMV offices do driver licenses, but you have to go to private tag agencies for tags...or tabs...whatever we call them here) Everyone here was friendly. The line was out the door in the a.m. on a Sat., but it moved along pretty quickly. Please do everyone a favor and do as much research as you can before showing up. And just be cool while you wait. Bring your best energy. We're all in this together, people. No joke, there was a guy ahead of me who was selling like 2 boats and a motorcycle the next day ( a Sunday) and he couldn't find the titles...and he was making it their problem. Seriously, dude? Eariler in the week, I called ahead to get an estimate on what I needed to pay. I did as much research online as I could also. A real person answered the phone and gave me a pretty high number. They quoted a vehicle with a higher trim level than mine, just to be on the safe side. If I recall, I kinda got a little prickly on the phone because Washington taxes you on the value of your vehicle (excise tax), even though you paid for it already a long time ago. What the hell? it's basically as sales tax you pay over and over again. Doesn't matter what you call it. Even though I was noticeably irritated, the person at Rainier was cool about it and didn't push back, which is the usual response in any other context. I brought cash, which seems to be the way to go. I've heard there is an extra charge for credit cards ( but don't know that for a fact). I ended up paying less than what they estimated earlier. in conclusion, do the research, call ahead if you have questions, go on Sat. a.m., and chillax while you wait. The kind and professional folks at Rainier Vehicle and Vessel Licensing will take care of you. Just remember...it could be much, much worse.

The auto repair shop behind the pottery shop…read morein downtown vashon tried to strong arm me into replacing my engine for hundreds of dollars more than other places charge for engine replacement. Worried about spending that much money, I decided to get a second opinion. I went to Burton Auto and spoke to the owner. The owner of Burton Auto advised me that I did not need a new engine. I drove my vehicle for 10 more years before selling it. I didn't need car repair but I use Burton Auto for oil changes and other maintenance. A few years ago I went back to Burton auto. The owner was nowhere in sight nor was his son or daughter. They were incredibly rude. I brought the car in for repair after having extensive diagnostic testing done by a mechanic that came to my house but then got another job. My car was an old car and it needed a special relay ordered for the electrical system. I was told Burton could get this. They called me a few hours later and told me to come get my car. They said it would take a while to get the part. I went and they wanted hundreds of dollars. Nothing had been repaired. They wanted a couple of hundred of dollars to tell me that the part I already knew needed to be replaced, needed to be replaced. Another time I went in with a flat tire. One of the workers screamed swear words at me for being in his way. Washington is one of the states where auto mechanics are not required to have professional licenses. Sometimes this shows in a very bad way.

I've heard nothing but good things about this shop so I was really surprised when it took them 4 times to fix the power steering pump on my daughter's Subaru. They kept citing manufacturer defect as the issue for the 3 broken pumps. They were apologetic and eager to try and make it right which I appreciated. What I did not appreciate was the advice of a mechanic, who was familiar with the car, being completely discounted. (Since the car was initially unsafe to drive off island my daughter was unable to take it to her usual mechanic.) The car continued to have problems until my daughter was able to get it to her mechanic who completely fixed everything and reported that some kind of sensor had been unplugged and not plugged back in and the wrong power steering fluid had been used. Burton Auto was very apologetic and refunded my daughter the amount she had to pay to have their mistakes fixed, which I really appreciated. I decided to give them another shot with my car because they were so nice and seemed to genuinely want to help. I had my battery replaced which seemed fine except they weren't exactly sure the battery they had would work and had to call the auto parts place on island to ask. I figured they should know but appreciated them making sure. Next time I had them change my oil, check my breaks, and asked them to see if there were brighter headlights available for my car and asked about the new LED headlights. I was told they didn't know about the LED headlights but would look into it. When I picked up my car one of the wheels was totally loose and I could barely drive the car so I had to turn around only a couple hundred feet away. The headlights they put in, which I specifically asked them to only replace the headlights if something brighter was available, were about half as bright as the ones they took out. They never looked into the LED headlights like they said they would and my fog lights are now brighter than my headlights. Before I couldn't even tell if the fog lights were on except in fog. Now I practically need the fog lights on to all the time. I was charged $150 for the bulbs and replacement. I feel really frustrated and won't use their shop again. The mechanics seem to have no idea what they're doing. The employees are very nice but after hearing nothing but good things about this place I feel it's really important that consumers have honest information about the service and mechanics here.

My appt was at 11AM and they weren't ready for me. I took a walk along MLK and finally got my car 1/2 hour later than anticipated. Not too inconvenient for a midday appt. What I appreciated was the apology I received and Budd taking something off the (very reasonable) bill as a way of showing their sincerity. I'll be back when service is needed again.
