So I waited a few days to write this review because I wanted to see how everything panned out. First things first if you try them out and your a teacher come on through they offer a discount. To start off what I thought to be one visit turned out to be 3. I went in to get my radiator fan fixed because my car was running hot. They were able to fix the issue so I thought but maybe an hour after I left it ran hot again and I drove it back. The manager Leo told me what may be the problem and fixed it. Ok no problem but then later on that evening more lights came on and my car pretty much didn't want to turn back on. I got the car towed and came back in the morning. I was a little upset because now what. But when I spoke to Leo again they took the car quickly to see what was going on and it was a different issue in related to what was repaired needing a new alternator. I was pretty upset thinking wow I have to spend more money but it was not on the mechanic fault it was just an affect of all of the energy being pulled from the old alternator hopefully I'm explaining it correctly. The reason this is four stars because Leo was so compassionate because he knew what happened and only charged me at cost for the alternator and didn't charge for the labor for this second issue. I would definitely go back because of the character of Leo and I forgot to say to top it off he was going out of town the same day but he waited to test drive the car himself to make sure I was good and I haven't had a problem again. read more

I had a very disappointing experience with this shop. The owner, Leo, personally quoted me a price for the work I needed done. However, when I came in for the service, Leo wasn't there and another employee took over. I mentioned the price Leo and I agreed on, but when the work was finished, I was charged more than double the original quote. I immediately called Leo to ask why the price had changed, and he simply said he didn't remember giving me that price. This was extremely frustrating and felt dishonest. In my opinion, that's not just bad customer service ,it shows a complete lack of honesty and professionalism. My car over heated & the radiator began steaming while I was on the highway. It was 3:30 PM on a Saturday, and auto max was the closest mechanic to me. I was about 2 minutes away when my car began steaming. I pulled over thinking I'd let it cool down and then finish the remaining 2 minutes drive. Well, my car wouldn't start after that. I called auto max, they connected me with a tow truck who arrived within 15 minutes of my call. When I arrived they were closing and told me to call Monday. When I called Monday, they discovered the hose fell off due to the pressure from the heat as the radiator fan wasn't working. By Tuesday at noon they had everything working nicely for me, and at a reasonable price for their labor. Phil & Leo were very kind and talked me through everything they had to do so I could understand. read more

R I P-O F F Took my 86-year-old mothers 2013 Mazda 5 to get an oil change with a $10 coupon, was greeted by Tony told him I wanted a basic oil change he said they ONLY do synthetic, no price discussed(my first mistake) I waited 1 hr and 5 mins and When I approached the front desk, Tony asked if I saw his text!? He they proceeded to tell me that my mother needed a new battery(current battery is a AAA installed battery less than a year old with a 3 year warranty) I handed Tony my credit card for the oil change(second mistake without asking the price) Tony handed me a receipt to sign that said $97.07 - $12.66 totalling $89.44 for a 4 cylinder "basic" oil change!??? DO NOT GO HERE!!!! I rarely write bad reviews, but this place is the reason why I lease cars instead of having to deal with shops that take advantage people like this one does. So yesterday I told my mom about this shop because I pass it on my way home everyday. It always looked busy. So instead of looking at previous yelp reviews we decided to go to them. We already knew what was wrong with the vehicle because we went to a previous shop. But they wouldn't be able to get to the car until Monday, and this shop was available that day. When my mother gets there. They told her that she needed something else, and not what she was told at the previous shop. So they did whatever it was they suggested instead. And it was not the problem. In fact the problem was the part that she had already suggested. So she ended up having to pay for the first thing that she suggested in addition to their mistake. So a less than $200 job ended up costing her $500. And taking twice as long. And instead of being apologetic. He says "well you needed it anyway". But it doesn't stop there. The male at the front desk was extremely disrespectful and extremely chauvinistic. And they take advantage of people that don't fully understand vehicles. He was even having a what should have been private argument on the phone cursing and talking loud while sitting at the front desk. Starting With the professionalism i received when I pulled up and dropped my 2018 Chevy Tahoe off. They had previously done air condition work on my 1996 Buick Le sabre. Which still blows cold air. They replaced my coolant system on the Tahoe new thermostat and flushed out my old coolant. It also came with a reasonable warranty and is currently running on all cylinders quiet as a "church mouse during Sunday's prayer services". DO NOT BRING YOUR CAR HERE. This place is definitely in the business of upselling you and making all auto places look bad. The mechanic spent less than 15 seconds explaining something to me and walked away before I could ask any more questions, muttering that "he didn't care." When I asked why I failed the inspection, I was able to speak with the owner/manager. The mechanic had brought up something ELSE ENTIRELY which caused my vehicle to fail (he did NOT mention this prior to me). I asked him to show me what caused the issue and he gave me a bogus answer regarding the steering and lied about how the steering felt off, which was obviously not true. I asked to see this and they brought me into the shop, where they gave me the runaround. The other mechanic was UNABLE to find the issue. The manager even tried to offer a free second inspection in good faith if I returned later so that I could get this problem remedied with them. I later found from an OUTSIDE mechanic's second opinion -- There was NOTHING WRONG with the steering at all. I felt like I could finally get out of that place, but they brought up ANOTHER issue which was not PREVIOUSLY mentioned at all. They wanted me to replace the windshield wipers before they could pass my vehicle. The wipers were worn a bit, but definitely usable and no issues. These people will literally find ANYTHING to fail you, so that you can pay for extra service and pass your inspection. I overpaid $40 for these wipers just so I could get out of there and not have to pay for another inspection. The manager waived the labor fee to feign good faith, despite it only taking less than 2 min to install wiper blades. I DO NOT RECOMMEND you go to these crooks. They will fail your inspection and upsell you to pass. Make sure you know your vehicle and always ask to make sure they are not lying to you. read more

I went back a few days later and the manager, Joshua, immediately recognized the problem and installed a new blade. At my request, he also checked my oil level to be sure my oil change was done properly. It was. His customer service was quick, responsive, friendly, and without any hassle. I have been going to Automax for years and they just keep getting better and better. Joshua usually handles my account and always goes above and beyond. This last time my car stopped in the middle of the road and I had it towed there. They immediately started fixing it, called to let me know that there had been water in the gas tank fixed it quickly. Several years back the team did excellent work,now all I hear is bickering between the owner and the employee.It never ceases,but what I am really upset is about is I went in for a car inspection and during the inspection the tech called me out and showed me a cracked fan belt ,and no fluids in the car. He then quoted a price. He told me that they have the drive belt there but it turned out they didn't.Upon trying to figure out what was going on they were gathered around a sport car while my car was on the side of the building with the hood up and no one was working on it.About an hour later upon check out the person upfront gave me a whole another pice which was twice what the technician said .I will never go back because not only is the service poor ,there is discension in the rank. This was the 2 time I felt cheated and taken advantage of.I believe they intentionally misled customers on prices .Upfront pricing and customer service needs to be greatly improved.The disagreements between the boss and workers are always ongoing with him scolding and berating being heard.Hire professional people and maybe that would help . read more

Their new inspection guy is a con artist. I've had my F250 inspected at auto max for the previous two years. This last time the new guy calls me outside to tell me he doesn't think it will pass due to the tint on my windows. I told him it's passed for the last two years since I bought it. He said no one ever checked it before but he was very thorough and would have to check it. Suspecting he was looking for a bribe, I handed him a twenty dollar bill and asked if that would help. He said it usually does. Truck passed inspection and I was on my way. I had a Houston Police officer buddy check it a few weeks later and he confirmed my tint was legal. One morning my car wouldn't start. I called Auto Max about repair and towing. They told me that they could work on the car that day, and gave me the number to a towing company they worked with who could get the car to them. I called Quality Towing, the recommended company. The driver who came out was professional and courteous, and did a good job. I made a note to remember this company, in case I need towing again in the future. That afternoon, I got a call from Auto Max saying that the car's battery needed to be replaced. I authorized the replacement, and they assured me that they would check to ensure there were no other problems. A couple of hours later, they called to let me know that the repair was complete. The only problem was the battery, and no other repairs were needed. I could pick up the car that same day. I know the stereotype of auto mechanics doing unnecessary work in order to charge more. Auto Max could easily have told me that more work was needed, that other components should be replaced. I appreciate their honesty, in doing only the repair that was actually needed. I will certainly go back to Auto Max when I need work on my car, and I would not hesitate to recommend them to others who need repair or maintenance on their cars. read more

I have been to Auto Max in Pearland a few times over the years. Mostly I go for state inspection. After another shop left the screws out of my air intake and air filter I started going here for other services. I've only had two times where things weren't perfect. Once, the skirt under the oil pan wasn't reattached after an oil change. They immediately fixed it. Today, I went to check the status of my truck after they replaced my ac compressor. I needed the truck back for Monday and I missed the call that it was ready. (Notification on my phone of a call or a voicemail didn't show any calls). I called right at closing time not realizing they closed at 4 on Saturdays and the person handling my job had already gone. The owner Max went way out of his way to make sure to take care of me. Over and above. You don't often see service like this anymore. Their guys are conscientious and helpful. Especially Joshua. I think he's the manager. He always walks me through what I need to know. This company is a complete rip off please please please especially if you are a women do not bring your car to this place. I had repairs done to my vehicle that cost me a great amount and I am still paying this amount off just to have my vehicle back in the shop again. They are very fast talkers and not honest. They will make your repairs super expensive so if you can't pay it all up front they give you an option of using this horrible leasing company called snap finance. Please do not sign up for this, I did not know how horrible this was, so they will give you exactly 100 days to pay your account in full and if you cannot pay it in full by the 100th day they will automatically lock you into a long term lease like 18 months or longer. By the time you finish paying this lease off you would have paid double the amount. So example my bill was 4,000 and if I couldn't pay it off I would be locked into a 18 month lease so my total cost would be 9,000. This is the worst service I have received in my life, I don't mind paying for the services but to have to pay and don't receive the services is not acceptable. My wife bought her car in recently for state inspection prior to a long road trip. In doing the state inspection several non-Inspection items were picked up and shown to my wife, one of which was a small coolant leak. Once at home I examined the coolant leak and discovered that the actual pipe connection was cracked and whilst the leak was indeed very small, the pipe connection was very weak. As soon as I touched the pipe to remove a clamp the entire connection failed. Auto max saved a potentially catastrophic loss of coolant on a long trip owing to their attention to detail and integrity. Someone asked me about this place, which prompted me to finally write a review. I have been to this Automax twice​, and both were very disappointing. Both visits were for the state vehicle inspection, and the same issue occurred both times. I was second in line and waited for about an hour before inquiring about the status of my request. The first time I asked. Wasntold I would be taken care of soon. The second time I asked, a half an hour later, I was told their machine was out of order and they could not do any inspections today. They seemed almost as surprised as I was that they had not told me the machine was out of order. This is particularly disappointing since they are by far the closest inspection station to me. read more
